This place is so gorgeous. My current relationship started here so this place is dear to my heart. anytime Im in town (live in waynesboro) with friends I always ask them if theyve been here & take them if they havent. Perfect for a peaceful walk through the trails and to get out of the house and enjoy beautiful scenery. Highly recommend taking the time to stop here if youve never been

This is definitely a place where I would want to go back to in spring or fall. We, including my 2- and 4year old, had a great time walking around, exploring the arboretum. We loved the ducks, the big rocks by the water, the suspension bridge. The kids area was great, balancing on the big tree and just looking at everything.Very nice area in a probably very busy place during the week.I can only recommend a visit if you are in the area! The bathrooms were not open, we went on a Sunday.

Its a great place to come and relax by the pond as well. If you are in the are in the warmer time of the year this is definitely a good place to stop by and see everything nature has to offer.

We had a really fun time. My daughter absolutely loved it and we went on the fairy and gnome walk. She even had a chance to build a fairy home to attract fairies in the forest. only items found in the forest and nothing man-made were used to construct the fairy homes and hopes of attracting future fairies. There was a small group of us and we had two stories read to us before we started out in the forest and it was cute as could be. If you have little ones I highly recommend that it was a lot of fun.

The first time I walked into JMUs Edith J. Carrier Arboretum, I was a prospective student looking at JMU. After having lived here for a few years, it has undergone big changes, but remains one of my favorite places to spend an hour or two.The arboretum can be divided into three sections. There is a spiraling garden, a large lake surrounded by trees, flowers, and walking paths, and a trail through the woods with different bridges over a small stream. The arboretum is a great place to take pets as well, as there are almost always dogs on leash, walking with their owners. I take my dog there a couple times a week, and he loves to sniff around. There are families of ducks, and nature is thriving, with koi fish in the pond. Additionally, there are community events every now and then, and the space can be rented out for private events, such as weddings, or receptions. The only downside to the arboretum, which is minimal, is the lack of parking. This however, is more-so a fault of the parking at JMU in general.

Still good for a walk, but a tired shadow of its former self. Needs some love and care. Rose garden is all but gone. It is not much more than a water retention basin.Someone tried to do something with the herb garden. The memorial gardens seemed to be cleared out. Kind of sad.

First visit and enjoyed the perennial gardens and signage along paths. During our midmorning visit we noticed numerous families strolling too. Parking was problematic but when we viewed grounds map there was a larger parking lot. Road signs would have been helpful to inform new-to-area drivers of this. Also taking place was their fall bulb sale which we found several unique bulbs to take with us. Our last caveat was it is a short distance from Interstate 81. It will be our new stop when motoring on I 81.

We had a meeting and potluck meal there. We were supposed to meet at the Pavilion, but it was unseasonably cold. We come here often. Beautiful foliage, interesting wildlife, well landscaped, quiet little oasis in the middle of Harrisonburg. Had our wedding reception there as well.Visitor/education center is informative and well maintained with clean restrooms and drinking fountains. The picnic shelters are conveniently located and also well cleaned/maintained.If there is one issue, its parking. Spaces are limited. There are small parking lots on both ends of the trail loop. If they are full, you can always park across the street in the JMU parking lots and walk a short distance.

This is a hidden gem in the middle of Harrisonburg. Whenever I go here I always chastise myself for not going more often. This time I sat on a bench in the woods while a flock of ducks fanned out all around me digging for tasty morsels in the underbrush. It made me happy to see college couples coming here for romantic walks together. I didnt know they did that kind of thing anymore...
