This is a challenging hike. It is very rocky and you have to watch your feet! There are many smaller falls on the way up and a magnificent one at the end. I wanted to go to Bailey falls further up but it was too slippery.
This was a wonderful little hike. Its a bit rocky, muddy, and you do have to cross a creek. But its great. Theres a creek that time most of the way thats nice to look at and hear and our dog really enjoyed it. There is a gravel path for 3/4 a mile and you get to a little wooden stand/kiosk and go right. The falls are 0.8 mile away. Youll be glad you went!
Beautiful hike, can be muddy, very rocky and steep in some places but well the effort. There are several falls along the way, and two creek crossings. One by way of a bridge and the other, the old fashioned way. Great for dogs, but keep the leashed and keep smaller children close, there are a few steep drop offs. There is another trail here as well but I have yet to try it to give a review.
Short easy hike to a beautiful 60 ft waterfall. Also has several smaller waterfalls on the hike to it.
We had a wonderful time hiking this with our 4 kids today. A couple places get narrow but overall was great! This was our first time hiking
Good hike. We went with a lot of non-outdoorsy people, and it was challenging for some, but we all made it! Took babies in carriers and walking young ones. Had to carry the littles back, but it was worth it!
Its a great hike up to the falls. Not for someone who isnt prepared to sweat and get a little put of breath. Even if you arent in shape though, you can take your time and be ok. The nice flat path quickly changes to an uphill boulder mess along a stream, so dont do this if you are not agile.
Amazing hike for all ages. There are a couple rough spots if you are not experienced. Be mindful of the Rocky Terrain that stretchs about 60 feet and you do have to cross the stream. Besides that. It is amazing
An Absolutely-Have To Do! I wont lie, parts of the trail going to Margarette Falls, could be a little tantalizing for smaller children and elderly adults; but well worth the persistence. I am not an avid hiker but have been out hiking a handful of times. Total trip time equalled: two hours and twenty minutes; that is including walking in, plenty of pit stops-prior to the biggest fall, taking pictures and hanging out at the falls, as well as walking back out to the car. You will want to bring or wear: water shoes or slip resistant soles, walking stick, bug spray, swim suit, towel, drink(s), possibly-a snack, flashlight, & camera! I wore flip flops; making it all the way in and out without injury, but I dont recommend! There are plenty of marked trails to get lost upon, plenty of parking, and plenty of space to have your own personal space, for making new memories. Give nature a chance to show you all her glory, you shouldnt be dissatisfied-I wasnt!
Absolutely Beautiful hike up to the falls, its a must do in our area to take this hike.. enjoy the fresh air and gorgeous water fall....
Rocky trail but beautiful place
Beautiful scenery, about a mile hike to the falls. Several water pools along the way. Last leg is rocky and can be steep.
This hike was a beautiful hike, but as a 58-year-old woman I was a little concerned about some areas that were a little difficult. We also had young children with us that were under the age of four, and I just did not feel that it was safe for them. However after we got back down I will say it was beautiful and Im glad I went! I doubt I will be going again at my age.
If you are looking for a nice, easy hike and want a good place to relax...go here! I have hiked this at least 3 times at different times of the year. Depending on the time of day, you may not encounter anyone else! I highly recommend this in the spring after the snow melt or after a good rainstorm. I would not classify this as strenuous, maybe moderate at most if you are a weak hiker. It is also excellent during the heat of the summer to relax in the shade and cool off in the pool. You can also climb to the top of the falls, it is very steep and the rocks at the top are VERY slippery. Even wearing shoes designed for slippery environments, I had trouble up there. DO NOT climb it on at wet and rainy day.
One of the latgest lots for its purposes--gorgeos area.
Nice parking area with room for a couple dozen cars. Several trails can be accessed from here. The trail starts out gravelly and wide before narrowing down to mostly single track. Plenty of shade all the way up.Several small waterfalls will be seen on the way to the main event as the trail follows the creek, with a couple of shallow crossings. Plenty of rocks to work your way across and stay dry. Bugs..grrr...but the waterfalls act as a natural repellent :-).Lots of rocks and roots make up a good portion of the trail. Some skill needed, but not a tough hike at all.Take your time and look up and down.never know what kind of critters you will see.
One of my favorite places not hard beautiful views along the way!!!
Great hike! Challenging but be careful of your footing.
This is a very nice little hike tucked away in Greenville. I cant believe nice never been here before.
Nice parking area trail is beautiful
Moderate hike but the waterfall is just wonderful. It’s worth the hike. You have to cross a stream so be prepared and a walking stick is recommended.
Great hike that starts out easy and gets moderately difficult twords the falls.Theres a short stretch across the bridge that gets really rocky.Theres two stream crossings that are fairly easy to navigate without getting wet.Theres a fair bit of slippery wet rocks at and before the falls.
Beautiful scenery. I loved the waterfall.
Nice hike. Great area, no problem parking.
Very nice hike. Very enjoyable. The last bit of the hike was a little more challenging. But still loved it.
I took the left trail to the falls marked by the 0.7 mile sign. It was a fun, short trail with beautiful scenery. Some sections of the path I followed are medium-sized rocks, so I wouldnt suggest bringing your clumsy friends. Theres also a few sections that are a tad steep. You see people once in a while, but not too much. It took about 2-3 hours round-trip with much pausing taking pictures and enjoying the view.
Very beautiful!!! Very good trail! Well maintained!!! No complaints at all we had an amazing time!!!
This is not a hike for the physically unfit. It is challenging with very steep, rugged and narrow paths. Use caution as many rocks are slippery, loose and unstable. Walking stick is highly recommended for less fit and elderly hikers to help maintain balance and stability. I am proud to say, I reached the falls! There are several small falls and pools along the way. Plenty of nature to behold. Water shoes are a must for navigating the sharp rocks in the pools and ankle supporting shoes for the trail.
This place remains one of my favorite hikes after visiting many in the area. It is a nice length without being overly strenuous. The waterfall varies as to how much water is present but is always quite beautiful throughout the year. If you want a little extra adventure, you can make the hike entirely on the rocks in the stream or continue the climb all the way up until you pass Bailey falls and eventually meet up with Viking Mountain road.
Nice, moderate to easy hike about 2.7 total miles there and back. The trail starts out flat and easy, then you will reach quite a bit of rock and stairs with one major creek crossing. The rocks are slippery when wet so be careful. Definitely a must see waterfall of our beautiful east Tennessee landscape.
Amazing hike. Parking lot is small so I doubt it ever gets overcrowded
Fun hike for people in the eastern Tennessee area! This trail is not too long, but requires balance and the ability to walk across rocky areas and possibly one stream. It is prettiest after lots of rain but beautiful anytime of the year.
Wonderful place to hike! Bring a walking stick with you.
Moderate hike to the falls and back. The trail had excellent markings. Despite the lack of rain, the falls were still worth the hike!
Great, large parking area, probably large enough for about 60 cars, for Margarette Falls Trail, Bullen Hollow Trail and Phillips Hollow Trail. Parking area is acessed easily via asphalt road.
It was not to bad of a hike to get to the waterfall just a lot of rocks at one point.
Beautiful trail. Gorgeous waterfall. Dont recommend for small children due to terrain.
Had a great time. The hike was nice lots to see.
Great little hike for an awesome payoff. Took the dog and had a blast.
Large gravel parking lot that is rarely full. First part of the trail maybe ¾ of a mile is pebble stone. This leads to a fork and an information kiosk. The right hand trail is for margarette falls. This is a single file dirt trail that is another 1.5 miles long and ends at the waterfall. Hike is moderate difficulty. It has because more difficult since there was recent flooding this year. Still very a beautiful hike
Amazing hike! It took me about 40 minutes at a steady pace from the trailhead to the waterfall. You walk through water, climb up rocks, and watch for snakes (I got to see two!). I will definitely be back! Also, the drive up was gorgeous.
Love the piece and quite here
20 miles from my house this hike and waterfall is amazing. Swim In the cold pool at base of fall
You can do it! We hiked it on July 6th ranging in ages from 5-42! The trail does narrow and part of it is a rock path uphill but it’s worth it! Beautiful the entire hike. The kids loved the pool of water at the waterfall. We saw so many butterflies!!
It will take some hard effort to get here but its worth itThe upper grotto falls are strenuous to reach and are worth it if you can reach them safely
It was fun but its up hill. No wheelchair or strollers can make it
Easy hike. Very well maintained path. Nearly impossible to get off track. Well worth it for the core at the end.
Trail can be tricky at times, its very rocky, steep, and we did get wet feet. This was a family hike ages 3-60 and we all made it and enjoyed it. Kids loved it! Lots of wildflowers and streams/falls along the way. Well worth it!
Very nice and lovely hike. Well worth it.
First date for my wife and I ️
1st mile is a nice stroll in the woods. The last half mile is a moderate to difficult trek, 700 ft of elevation gain over lose rocks and boulders. The falls are a great payoff.
It was fun and peaceful
Amazing Hike. Great views. Definitely be prepared to climb and wear proper footwear. Not a simple walk in the woods
I loved the hike, and the waterfall was beautiful!
Beautiful hike and perfect for the family!!
Beautiful area. Great place to go if you like to hike and see Gods beauty!
Margarette Falls is a local hike for us, but a good hike all the same. As you work your way to the falls most of the trek will be uphill with one water crossing. Summer months are prime time for snakes; we saw two today (June 2018). The falls area is wonderful for wading on a hot day and relaxing on the rocks before you continue onward. In periods of draught, the falls tend to be more of a trickle, but still worth the effort. Dogs are allowed on the trail, so expect that you may see a hiker with a furry companion if you go.This is a one way marked trail, but I do believe there is an unmarked trail that continues up and beyond the falls.
Beautiful place .. great hike if your up for a challenge and georgous waterfall at the end .. just be careful and dont climb to the top of the falls .. alot of ppl have fallen and got hurt..
2nd visit & there will be a third. Moderate hike
Beautiful place would recommend at least going there once if you love nature hikes
Awesome medium to difficult hike. Worth it when you reach the falls. Half of it is wide and easy the other half is technical and lots of changes in terrain and altitude. I try to hike it every time I’m in town.
Very fun hike following a river up to the falls. Not too challenging but definitely worth it. Beautiful surroundings on a well maintained trail.
A little harder than expected, but worth it!
Second time there well worth the 10 hour drive .
A stunning waterfall. The hike up along the creek is beautiful. When you think it cant get any better you arrive at the falls and get blown away. Ive seen many falls and this is a must see.
Loved this trail. It is the first I have taken in this area and it is beautiful. Its a challenge but not too hard. I would rate it a 3 on a scale of 1-10 for someone in average physical condition. I look forward to doing it again and many or the surrounding trails.
Great place to hike with the family!! The kids love dipping their toes in the river!!
Very beautiful and quiet
A little difficult but its a nice hike.
Great hike.
Beautiful
Excellent
An amazimg hike
Great moderate hike with beautiful falls at the end.
Bro I love these waterfalls.
Easy hike! Such a awesome waterfall #nature #daytrip
Difficult to find, but a nice asadventure, Cherokee National Forest, Tennessee.
Love this hiking trail but last half of hike leading to the falls is a bit strenuous over the rocks but its worth the reward in the end.
This is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have ever been.
Love this hike its really pretty
Kinda small
Neat place to visit. A great hiking location
Awesome views water is very cold. Beware everywhere you walk. I almost stepped right on a copper head!
Beautiful. Wish people didnt trash nature so bad. Next time I go, I will take a little bag, so I can pick up some trash on my way.
Didnt take the hike circle the parking lot have been on every time great short hike.
Absolutely, positively a must do!
Beautiful hike and well marked trails
Beautiful place, nice big parking lot, pet and child friendly. Great hike
Great place to go hiking. Takes about 2 hours from the falls then back to your vehicle.
Beautiful
Nice big lot. Could really use a good grating and hole filling. Trail markers have been damaged some and could be fixed.
Trail is generally protected by big canopy trees, clean air, decent incline to hike up to the falls. Less than 2 hours round trip w kids
About 1 hour half hike great hike
Great family hike area.
Gorgeous place!!! Went there last Saturday, definitely will be back again.
Wonderful hike with easy creek crossings
