Lots of things to see and do here. Great educational opportunity for kids. Just be sure to call ahead to find out when the last house tour of the day is -- they are frequently changing their schedule due to Covid-19, and there is conflicting data on their own website.

Four different sites make up this Historic area. Each with its own charm. Make sure to visit the visitors center and watch the short film about our 17th president. Rangers here are exceptionally nice, I wish Id have gotten the one in the gift shops name as she spent time explaining the passport system for National parks to us among other informative things. Very sweet. The cemetery is a must. Sitting high on a hill, you feel chills at row upon row of tombstones surround the pinnacle where President Andrew Johnson and his family are laid to rest. This was a very enjoyable visit.

In general the historic part of Greeneville was wonderful. Andrew Johnson house where he grew up was next to the visitors center. It was closed due to Corid-19 but we still walked to his homestead a few blocks away. On the way back we passed another antebellum home. The historic downtown had several old buildings and a church built in 1780. A few blocks away was an old mansion that was very impressive. More to see here besides Andrew Johnson house and homestead.

I have been to visit Andrew Johnson National Historic Site twice before, have plans to visit again, and find it to be a very interesting and educational place to spend time as well. The property has Johnsons homes, a Visitor Center, a statue, and Tailor Shop as well as the nearby cemetery where the former President is buried with a large beautiful monument. It is easy walking around the site and exploring how Andrew Johnson made a huge difference during his Vice Presidency and then subsequently became President after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, one of my favorite Presidents. There is a movie about Johnson and a gift shop in the Visitor Center. The house is decorated by the National Park Service for various holidays and features special events for adults and children during said holiday occasions. The interactive activities and wonderful staff make the Historic Site a joy to visit on any given day. Highly recommended.

Very courageous president who led the country after Lincolns assassination. Thank this president if you like publicly funded schools, live in Alaska, appreciate a senator from Tennessee who refused to abandon the union when his state seceded, who also fought to keep the south in the union and address their concerns via established and constitutional means, refused to allow the northern states to bully and repress the southern states after the war, and was the champion that ensured that the country would not turn to civil war again.

Great historical area not far off the interstate or far from the Smokies. Well worth the stop, and a great learning experience about a president that had the weight of taking over a mourning, broken country and a house dead set on his downfall for doing what was needed to set things right. I have a new found respect a the man who was a true patriot, a staunch supported of our constitution, even if it his adverasies wouldnt support doing the right thing because it wasnt their ideal. It almost cost him everything, and did make him look like the failure that he wasnt in the eyes of history.

As with most of the National Parks, the Andrew Johnson NHS is well put together and very informative. Currently (10/2017), the homestead is under renovations and is not able to be toured. There are still several buildings, the visitors center, early home, and replica of the birth place to see. A short drive down the road will take you to the Andrew Johnson National Cemetery. Johnson is buried on the top of the hill with an astonishing 2000 veteran plots surrounding the hill.

Take a step back in time as you explore the many Andrew Johnson locations through town. The tailor shop where many years ago before his presidency he would have mended your clothes and talked politics, explore his home he lived in, then the second he built on his return from the white house to live out his final days, both of which offer free tours. Then ofcourse the replica of his birth home that is located in Raleigh, NC is a must see. After exploring his life through the placks at the National Park Historical Site and checking out these wonderful locations youll want to conclude with admiring his grave where he will forever be known for defending the constitution.Great for family or just a day to yourself. Everything is free, including parking that is at every location, and each one has plenty of information. Enjoy!

So informative, clean and nicely furnished in period pieces, helpful staff. I learned so much about him and his family that doesnt get talked about in school. Be aware that there are multiple stairs if you have mobility issues. The ranger spoke loud enough for me to hear when the tourists went upstairs as I am in long leg/ankle brace. I appreciated that so much. The fact that they have on display actual garments that President Johnson made himself is so impressive as well as quilts/handiwork of his wife Eliza. I recommend any American History buff or National Park enthusiast to see this.

We learned so much here about our 17th president. Johnsons tailor shop has been preserved by the visitors center that was built around it. You can walk through the downstairs and basement of first home he purchased with his wife and enjoy a ranger led tour through their second and final home which is restored to its 1869 appearance when Johnson returned from the White House. Because the house was kept in the family for so long, the furnishings are those that were actually owned by the Johnsons, NOT reproduction or period pieces.

A great, educational, historic site celebrating an unusual American president. The site actually consists of about four distinct places which are generally Im walking distance from each other. If you tour his last home, try to get on the ranger guided tour, which adds a lot. There is plenty of parking but its distributed into several smaller lots, so get guidance from the office on where to park.

I never knew at one time in our political history we had a Republican (that was a liberal) President (Lincoln) and a Democrat (that was conservative) Vice President (Johnson) at the same time, what a concept what happened to be able to vote for a Vice President separately from the President. I also learned opposing politicians were just as bad as they are today with no compromise and the attitude of shoving down the American peoples throat because there opinions are the only ones that matter.

Very nicely done historic site telling the history of President Andrew Johnson. They have preserved his original tailor shop within the museum structure which is great. There are a few other buildings associated with him there also. Johnson tends to get a bad wrap of sorts as there are a lot of political rumors out there that arent true or have been misinterpreted. He was also the victim of political attacks by many from his own party. Very interesting place, especially if you are interested in Civil War or late 19th century history.

A fantastic National Historic Site! Upon entering the Visitor Center, youll be met by a knowledgable ranger and a fantastic, decently-sized museum that revolves around Johnsons presidency and impeachment trial. Also in the Visitor Center is a massive cabin, used by Johnson and his family (see pics for various things youll find). The site is split among a few different plots of land, with the closest being across the street (Johnsons home). The homestead and a few other places are scattered in a near proximity of the Visitor Center. Overall, this site is absolutely fantastic and I honestly loved this place!
