Great little museum. Not very big but it has a lot of history available. Very reasonable price per person. The attendant was very knowledge and nice.
Visited the museum today 9/22/2019 and though the space is small, it displayed a plethora of knowledge about a Founding Father that does not receive a lot of press. I was impressed by the displays and was astonished by the lineage of Monroes family...it was very detailed. Will definitely visit again!
Staff was so helpful and the museum was so intresting! The gift shop was reasonably priced. The kids got to do a treasure hunt. And decorate a plate. As a homeschool mom I was impressed!
Great museum, though small. Katie, the person at the desk, was wonderfully knowledgeable about James Monroe, his wife and children, and a lot of related knowledge and presented in an enjoyable manner.
Liked experiencing the life style of an early President - visiting other Presidents museums, they vary alot with the quality and extent of the presentation.
It was interesting, but felt like it was small and could use a guide. It was pretty interactive for the kids and everyone seemed to enjoy it.
Its a wonderful background for people who like history, Fredericksburg, and presidents
Such friendly staff and a nice bit of history!
Relatively small museum for a founding father who fought in the revolutionary war and played so significant role in the birth of our nation.
Been here a couple of times and a pretty little museum with a lot of information on James Monroe. The museum was the site of his law office and now acts as his museum and library. Really for people who love their history (well, the whole town is for people who love their history) and the times I visited it was during the Fredericksburg Welsh Festivals (his mother was Welsh). There is a fee to go in (unless you are there during the Welsh Festivals) and there also lots of places to eat nearby.
The museum had great artifacts, but the guide was not the most knowledgeable. Another person in my group politely pointed out a mistake she made had made regarding the Monroe Doctrine, but the guide was very rude in dismissing the correction, instead sticking to her erroneous story.
Small but outstanding display of James Monroe years in Fredericksburg and Revolutionary War years. Most articles are original from the Monroe family. Short slide presentation of his Revolutionary War years was excellent. Small gift shop with a wide selection of books. Biggest problem is finding a parking place on the street. True of most of Fredericksburg downtown. Recommended using parking garage and walking. Most street parking is limited to two hours during the day. Museum is highly recommended.
Awesome exhibits and learned a lot when we were there.
Small but very good. Kids had a good experience doing a scavenger hunt game.
Learned a lot
Excellent clean and inviting. Great place to study
