This is a great place for a nice walk. Plenty of space on the trails if you are interested in running. Didnt get to see the lake but hear that it is very nice in the summer to take the kids. Looking forward to going back.
Very enjoyable are with hiking trails and a nice waterfront beach area. While the trails are not well marked, they are well maintained. Google maps along with the trail map is essential to keep on track. The dunes trail has many old growth trees including Oaks and Black Walnut. Its like being on a tall ship with sails at full mast. The waterfront looks like an enjoyable place to spend an afternoon. Lots of sand and well marked swimming areas. The nature center requires a reservation to tour. Several exhibits to review. Out back, there is a large deck overlooking a quiet pond. A nice area to relax at.
Amazing! In the fall it is absolutely gorgeous . The trails are very good, there is a lake you can swim in during the summer months. During the winter they offer cross-country skiing!
Its a long walk/hike but very worth it. So beautiful and clean. The air is so fresh.
Its very nice out here, lots of trails to walk. The lane area is a bit small, but very nice. Theres an area to take your dogs in the water. Beautiful scenery.
Nice easy walk in the woods. Close to town. Hills arent to big.
The lake was dirty. The drive was good. Did not do any of the trails. Wold not visit again
No place to fish from the shore, theres a lot of weeds in the water except for the swimming area. Would not recommend fishing here but swimming is great. Im from Muncie and like to make the drive up to Fox Island.
Very nice little out of the way, nature park,, Ranger Jeff was very knowledgeable about the plant and animal life,, especially the beautiful Monarch Butterflies
Fox Island is a real treasure in Fort Wayne. Great county park with miles of well marked trails, nature center with a fireplace, and in the winter some excellent cross country skiing. They also have ski rentals. Adjacent to Eagle Marsh so there are some excellent opportunities to encounter wildlife. Several whitetail deer call fox Island home.
Nice walking trails. Bring bug spray for mosquitoes in the summer. Dog friendly areas, with beach area.
Very nice, well-maintained trails with no big hills. No bikes are allowed on the trails, though.
Nice trails, appropriate length and challenge for little legs and dogs. Hiking trails become limited during cross country ski season, but still enough for a few miles. The lake is pretty with a small beach area, but tends to be crowded in the summer. Sometimes muddy or algae, so not a pristine lake if you prefer clear water. There is a bathroom that can be used for changing, but only one so you might have to wait for it. A small area designated as a dog beach. Nice nature center with meeting areas, and plenty of activities and programs for those wanting to learn from the naturalist. Theres a small entrance fee or an annual pass.
We had a very enjoyable picnic in the pavilion. Then we did some walking and enjoyed the scenery. This is an excellent family situation.
Nice place to take the kids if youre looking for a little nature therapy.
Its an awesome park, walked the trails for almost three hours, and probably only saw a tenth of the entire actual park.
Live the walking trails wheel chair accessable over all bast nature center/park
Very relaxing. Were not very many people the day we went so that was nice
Beautiful place to take trails and spend with the family
Sooo the bathrooms NEED attention! But I always love spending time here
Great park, with nice trails and even a little swimming area for the children!
A great place for kids.Be sure to bring an air mattress or some other floating device
First time there. I went fishing and caught a 9in bass. Put it back to small. I liked the place and bought a year pass.
Beautiful place. We and our dogs hike there regularly.
Great place to take you dog for a hike, they have a beach and water to swim on. Map is pretty confusing though
This is just a wonderful place for nature. There isnt much you cant see here when it comes to northeast Indiana wildlife.
A lot of mosquitos, bring spray with a good amount of deet. Im sure its awesome, without the mosquitos.
Love going to Fox Island... We have spent many summers bringing the kids swimming here. Sometimes daily...to birthday parties. Pavilion areas with grills, playgrounds, and volleyball court. Great memories here!!
Love this place curious to why there are so many dead fish ..smells horrible! I do like to go swimming but seems its full of snakes makes me worried to get out in it!
This is a little hidden gem in Fort Wayne. Ive never done the running trails, or the hiking. I usually go to the beach. Its small, usually busy, but its a great place to jump into the water and cool off. It has a townie feel to it in that you will meet and talk with your beach neighbors. For a few dollars its a nice place to beat the heat.
Lovely fall day at Fox Island
Cool park. Plenty to do. Trails are kinda labeled weird makes it not so easy to navigate if youve never been there. Otherwise clean and fun my kids loved it.
Usually pretty busy, but its a beautiful park.
Great place to visit with the family and is dog friendly. Covered area with picnics tables are available in front of the lake/beach area, affordable.
Nice little place.to take the family and enjoy the day together.
Nice nature center and trails
Bad fishing spot. Otherwise nice area
Great trails, play areas, fishing and more! Very family friendly
Nice walk around Bowman Lake. Some people were in swimming. Nature Center was interesting. Good for kids.
A nice little county park with a pond to swim in.
This is a nice county run nature park. While there was some water across the trails nearly all the trails are paved all weather usable. This spring has been cooler than normal so the frogs and toads were not easily found. The trip was an enjoyable outing with a kindergarten class. The naturalist was knowledgeable and friendly easily holding the kids interest.
Has restrooms. Beach is good for kids. Plenty of shallow, warm water. Not busy when I went. It costs $2 a person to drive in, young kids are free. Dog beach is a mud pit, but there is a small steep beach just before the dog beach that works for dogs. 2 trails to enter the beach from the parking lot. Use the right side trail to avoid ducking under the dead tree.
When they tell you to have mosquito spray-take heed! Lots of scenery & wildlife to see here; especially if you keep quiet. I would give this place 5 stars if the trails were better marked
Its an okay place for a quick outdoor activity.
Me and my fiancee went there to swim before it decided to storm. The lady in the pay booth said nothing about not safe to swim before we payed. After rain died down we got in the water and we werent in there very long before she decided to make us get out. And oh theres also a swim and your own risk sign So why does it matter if we swim in the rain? Was perfectly safe. They dont give refunds and we werent even there very long either. Then we were just sitting in our car and lady was like the rain isnt going to let up till the park closes its just safer if everyone leaves. It was barely raining and it wasnt thundering or lighting. As Im typing this its not even raining. Overall the lady was rude and also had an attitude about us just sitting there. Dont waste your time going if its going to rain cuz theyll close early apparently.
Love it
Looked for mushrooms! Found Fiddleheads and fossils!
DNR or park staff should monitor beach on occasion. There are folks drinking, heavy, and heading into the water.
Great place too think, so quiet
Great place, it has fantastic swimming beaches one of which is a doggy beach. The dog beach is not a proper beach though, the beach has a deep drop off to get to the water with no hand supports. Fox Island has an amazing nature center and observation deck for watching animals, the nature center is very child friendly as well.
Nice place the bathrooms were gross however
Great place to find local hiking with varying trail lengths. Some of the trails are poorly marked but if you have a map youll be fine navigating the beautiful trails!
Great lake to let the kids swim and play. The have a pavilion for parties and it was only 2 bucks per person! All children 7yrs old and under are free!. Only dislike is that it was packed! Did I mention that you can go fishing there as well?!
Great family place and great place for cookouts and swimming
Water was great no mosquitoes
Nice place to enjoy the sun and let the kids be kids
Awesome little beach! Beautiful and well kept. Not too busy. Definitely will go again.
The hikes are BEAUTIFUL but however the hole that people call a swimming pond is awful to look at! I could not imagine getting in that nasty water
It was so packed very dirty and there was Im assuming a big big rock nobody seemed when you first walk down a lot of people I seen hit their foot or fall over the rock they really should Mark it especially being is where people were first going in at in coming out of I know for a fact about people who hurt their foot that day LOL it is a 2 seconds to put a marker up
Beautiful walking trails. Perfect escape for me and my dogs. The staff is very helpful and friendly as well.
Nice trails!
Sole Fest today and tomorrow. Lots of music food and beer. Come and enjoy
The park has many things to do including hiking, fishing and swimming in the small lake. The small beach area is especially nice for small children. The park also has a doggie beach.I went to Fox Island today to make the most of a beautiful day. We brought our cameras and wanted to get some exercise.
Great quiet place to hike
Beautiful setting and a lot of wildlife. Lots to do and see while you are there!
Fantastic jewell of the south side of Fort Wayne!
This place is basic and nice. I was looking up places that I could take my dog swimming, and this place was advertised to have a nice dog beach. And also nice trails. The dog beach was a huge let down. You have to walk completely past the normal beach to a extremely small section with no sand, or anything nice really. I went 2 separate times and the dog beach was disgusting. It’s a big drop off to the water and not enjoyable. The grass is always overgrown as well and blocks your way to the water. So I tried out the trails. I also gave the trails 2 chances. Both times that I went, the grass was extremely overgrown and the trails aren’t the greatest at all. The few workers I’ve talked to are extremely nice. The normal beach is a little pathetic and I wouldn’t waste any time there. Huge slope to a lake with a bunch of stuff in the water. I can’t really say anything too nice about this place. Just a let down. I haven’t tried out the observatory, I believe that’s what it’s called. But I don’t think I’ll ever go out of my way to return.
Beautiful place to hike and see lots of wildlife. Annual memberships are cheap and include fishing and morel hunting fees. Make sure to bring good mosquito repellent!
Great fun for nature lovers of all ages!!!
We love Fox Island. They always have nice people working the gate and the price is very fair. The only thing we hate are the people who are going there and throwing cigarette butts and their garbage on the ground...but that has nothing to do with the park, they try hard to keep up with it. Just some nasty people in this world.
Cute little spot to enjoy nature and hike some trails.
Perfect place for a nice walk on their many scenic trails, as well as the small lake for which you can bring the kids on a hot day. Dont have any kids and decided that pets are a mans best friend? Well you can bring them too! They have a doggy beach for your fur child to drive in and enjoy themselves as well! Fox Island has brought my dog and I much happiness for many years as well as a keen fondness of my nostalgic childhood! Make memories at Fox Island!
Nice park with extensive trail system. Great place to swim, with a section for dogs to go off leash and swim, too.
It was cool beautiful Lake interesting and knowledgeable staff on nature of all kinds it was really nice
I am always able to find a lot of paw paws.
My kids absolutely love visiting here, especially the nature center. And whats not to love, they have a pretty cool play area up in a tree to read books, relax, pretend. They love learning about nature and then even hiking the area to experience it themselves.
Great place to go birding!
Many trails, not many people.
Nice trails and workers very knowable and helpful
Beautiful park. Its always a great place to take pictures. Looking forward to someday visiting when it isnt cold.
We go there every year
Great place to go
Beautiful! Fun! Family Friendly! Dog friendly! Fishing & swimming & hiking available.
Beautiful, natural surroundings. Birds, wildlife... a great place to relax and get in touch with nature. They offer a lot to do.
Great place! Could he more pavilions and grills but over all great!
