Best kept secret in the sprawling Fort Lauderdale area. A small lovable, natural oasis. Beautiful trails, and seriously- the Most Amazing bathrooms!
First time here today. Not crowded for a Sunday midmorning walk surprisingly. Very well maintained paths with highlight markers for trees and wildlife and benches . Paths are one way due to coronavirus protocols. Watch for the giant golden orb Weaver along your path just above your head, especially if youre tall.
This is the best place right in the middle of Fort Lauderdale! Wildlife everywhere, if you take the time and look. Fiddler crabs scurry, making a sound like a natural rain stick. Its very cool! I wish I could upload my videos!
Soooooooo Peaceful. - Congratulations to all who were involved in preserving this little hidden gem. It’s a nice way to spend part of your day. If it has rained the walkways may be a little flooded so wear appropriate shoes. The tree canopy made it really comfortable to walk through mid day. There’s plenty of parking with easy access to the nature paths. The staff here are friendly, helpful, informative and professional. There is an education center where you can experience some of the nature preserves past and present history.
Great little nature center. Had some animals and interactive educational displays for the kids inside. Perfect for little ones. Couple trails to pick from. We took the trail by the water, took us about 20 minutes with our toddler walking. The little walk by the water was nice, had some benches and views of some waterfront homes and boats. Supposedly you can see manatees here but we didn’t have any luck. Staff was very friendly, will definitely come here again to burn some toddler energy.
The trail is an easy walk. Its very nice and peaceful. We saw lots of birds and crabs.
Secret woods is a great hidden (thus secret ) gem of a park that has paths that go through a swampy, mangrove slough past the New River. Its a great place to go see crabs, birds, fish, butterflies, raccoons and other wonderful parts of nature. There are plenty of places to sit and have a picnic, or just relax and unwind.
Nice place to walk with well defined paths! Great view of the intercoastal and a variety of animals. Great way to get outdoors!
I loved the place. Was our first visit. So ready for COVID 19 one way paths. The place is really beautiful. I was in love
Due to COVID-19 some exhibition are closed and due to flooding they have rerouted the trail. Now going forward that the temp us better I say its a good place to do your walking and see a manatee.
This park is full of gorgeous nature and there are millions of tunnels in the ground where creatures live. Very serene and peaceful. There are small lizards and frogs running around. I really enjoyed the butterfly gardens. You can spot many butterflies with gorgeous patterns on them.
This is a nice little tucked away nature center. Two trails and a couple small side trails. Usually there are hosting weddings and baby showers in the banquet hall. Very nice. You can walk along the river and see some boats pass by. Its all very calm and relaxing and there are fact cards along the walk for the family or explorer to learn more about their surroundings. Depending how fast youre walking and such you can likely walk the trails between 45mins to 2 hours. Just depends on how much you venture around.
Awesome park. There was rain the week prior to my visit, so the grounds was wet below the boardwalk. There were literally hundreds of in the water. They run underground as soon as you approach so hard to get a picture. I also saw raccoon, iguana, squirrel, cruly tail lizards, and snakes all around. The shaded trees kept it cool on a hot day. I was even able to geocache. Loving this park. Will certainly be back. Rock the park
Amazing place in ft lauderdale. Ideal spot to hide and enjoy mother nature
Amazing little place away within the city. Didn’t get to see many butterflies but we’ve enjoyed every bit of the parts we saw.
Its always the perfect place to go and clear my mind and enjoy fresh air. The trails are so serene and beautiful, I enjoy the silence, interrupted by the calls of various birds hidden among the trees. Ive been lucky to see some wildlife, when I pay close attention.
My husband brought me here for my 1st time and I love it so quiet and relaxing.....
Love this little park, lots of amazing trails to explore. The butterfly garden was full of butterflies when I was there. Nice view of the inter coastal as well. A must see to avoid crowds.
FREE family fun. Nice path through the mangroves. We saw TONS of crabs, iguanas, butterflies, woodpeckers and raccoons.
Wonderful park. Plenty of parking, large, engaging welcome center with turtles, snakes and activities for the kids. Great party room available for rent. Wood deck trails (great with a stroller) lead you to some picturesque spots.
Great place for toddlers to explore. Even when its wicked hot out, its pretty manageable to walk the trails because most everything is shaded. Air-conditioned explore room for toddlers including games, puzzles, live turtles and a snake.
What a gem!!!! This park is beautiful!!! Staff is wonderful, very friendly.Clean beautiful bathrooms!! 10+You can spend an hour or two here. Trails are short but really awesome!!!Saw lots of butterflies, crabs, birdsLots of information on the nature center, about history as well.Recommend!
Peaceful natural paradise. You can cover all the trails in an hour.
A nice walk through the mangroves. Today we saw a momma racoon w her 2 babies, hundreds of crabs, spiders, and water birds. Amazing restrooms, shaded but still warm outside. (Its Fla)
Other than the constant sound of the hwy, its a beautiful tucked away park with great educational material
Really cool, nice nature. Kinda sad that the centers are closed though.
It was very nice .... it was hot when I went so not alot of animals but the crabs were out and they were cute .... the kids had fun running around
It is always a pleasure to come to this park for a nice evening stroll. Specially on fall and winter too.
Secret woods nature center is an amazing park if you want to have a chill time. Theres basically three trails. One that leads to the butterfly garden which is okay but could be better maintained. The second trail. The one in the right its more in the woods and its on the wood chips. So you feel more connected to the nature. The third and longest one to the left takes you into the woods in a well maintained boardwalk over the mangrove and small rivers. If you keep walking it leads you to the canal. In this trail I have seen racoons, birds and a bunny. You can also get to crab apples, actual crabs and other animals. The rest of the park a little museum that shows all sorts of pieces on animals, it a few live snakes and a indoor bee hive. I highly recommend it.
Great place to visit. Nice trails mostly elevated.
This is a really cool public park that doesnt cost anything to enter. It is a great place to bring your family especially if you have kids. They have a nature center with snakes and turtles and interactive things for the kids to do including art projects. They have really nice walking trails and a butterfly garden. Its an amazing 57 acre oasis thats hidden and cool. My children really loved it. We highly recommend it!
The nature preserve is so beautiful. I walked all the trails, minus the Laurel Oak trail. I was slightly rushed because they closed at 5, I got there at 3:30. I will definitely go back to walk Laurel Oak and do the others again. I got some beautiful pictures. Manatees are in season Right now, so you can see some in the water if youre quiet. They have guided walks on Saturdays and Sundays.
Great nature center and walking trails. The nature center has activities for kids, the bathrooms are clean. The boardwalk trails are well maintained. Along the trails lots of benches. They do have a area if your planning a event or wedding. Would highly recommend this location. The trails are also shaded by trees.
Nice place for a 40 minute stroll in nature. Educational and wonderful, friendly guide named Emily who told us what various things like Pond Apples and coco plums were.
Beautiful location for a wedding. The park has specific requirements for decor but you can still setup a magnificent scene. The kitchen is big enough for catering team 4-6 people. The facility staff are very friendly and helpful, even at 11pm during cleaning. They provided ample enough tables and chairs. And very sturdy benches outside for the service. I suggest giving them a call if you want to have an outside wedding and reception at the same site.
Great park to take a walk with the family. We saw different wild life, path is shaded by trees so you won’t get too hot. We will be coming again often :)
Wow this park is a true treat. Great location to connect with nature. Brought the baby in the stroller through all the nature trails.
Beautiful trails, lots of fiddler crabs, birds and raccoons. The bathrooms are super clean and nicely updated.
A great way to spend an afternoon. Its a lot of walking but the scenery and critters make it well worth while. I highly recommend it for families.
This was such a beautiful nature park. Hidden gem and we need more parks and nature preserves to appreciate and enjoy
A small natural area with an even smaller interpretive centre. Dogs are not allowed which is unfortunate because my guys were really looking forward to a walk in the shade.
Love this spot for a nice nature walk.
Beautiful. The park staff does an excellent job keeping the place clean. Some trash in the mangroves, but I imagine alot of it washes up with the tides. Very relaxing and peaceful. A special place. Thank you to the wonderful BCPR (Broward cty parks and rec) staff and volunteers for your hard work- it definitely shows in this awesome park.
You get just what the name suggests-secret woods . One of the best parks in ft Lauderdale
Such a peaceful place to take a nature walk.
Very well kept. Lots of things to learn about.
A beautiful park that is free and has wonderful trails to see some of Floridas wildlife.
Very relaxing to escape from the routine.I went with my sister and niece and we really enjoyed walking around nature(:
This lush, enchanting oasis is a retreat from the urban jungle it is surrounded by. Butterfly gardens, swamps and bogs, inter-coastal water lapping at your feet- it’s an idyllic place to get away from the trapping and noise of city life. South Florida is a tree city- with more than 50% coverage in lush tropical hammock flora. Secret Woods is one of Broward Park’s gems and a benefit for the entire community.
Easy short hike, one trail with hard planking and one with wood chips. Nice place to sit along the river in the sun and watch the boats go by. Also saw a Manatee.Easy to get to, not to busy on a Sunday late morning, however, if it was busy, not a lot of parking.
Great nature park to take family while in Ft Lauderdale. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Nice and quiet. Mosquitoes not real bad like someone post on my visit. Good if your looking for a place to read a book.
Lots of wildlife. Nice walkways.
The Secret Woods Nature Center is a refreshing experience to explore Every and anything away from the city.. This Secret Treasure creates a sense of pause and getaway. The parking holds about 70 to 75 cars for parking. You can witness upon entering the property free roaming blue crabs, and birds and foliage. There is a beautiful hand painted sign the greets you once you begin the trail into the trail with sign to direct you to the office for questions, maps and other monthly and calendar information. The Manager on the property was very helpful and if your looking to use this beautiful space for a private event there is accommodations for your occasion.. Which also a huge indoor and outdoor terrace.. This property is so much fun and the path is secretly surprising. That You Don’t know what’s around the corner from the oak trees ferns, said alligators and water walk area.. which be sure to keep your personal items close and personally put away that you don’t drop anything ion the mangroves once the path gets closer to the water.. It is a complete experience or scene out of a indie upcoming thriller or countryside enchanting Secret Wood.. Which it’s perfectly allowed to have a Premium Cigar after the way, with hopes that the breezeways of the Trees don’t mind!” ~CIGAR MIAMI
Nature is found here for you to enjoy.
The people who work there are very nice
Cute, cozy park. Great for short walks. Lots of crabs and butterflies.
Great nature walk, very peaceful and a nice resource center with toys and nature related activities
This was a beautiful little park I recently visited with my mom and baby sister along side my girlfriend. We absolute;y had a blast and it was a great time. Their walking trails will definitely tire you out and just when you need fresh air they have learning centers for kids. I suspect this is a summer camp haven in the summer. Thumbs up!
We held a family function here. Had a great time. The view outside is great. Love the local parks in Broward county
Wonderful woods and boardwalk to explore. Peaceful escape in the middle of busy city. Incredible restrooms. Educational walk. Loved it here.
This place was freaking awesome. All the paths they have, with information as you go was awesome. Theyre kids section for learning and interactive station aaas absolutely mind blowing to the kids. I loved seeing them have so much fun. Only adivce: bring some water!
Beautiful place to visit, is great for kids they can learn a lot about trees and animals, it is highly entertaining and is completely free.
Its a great place a family time we love it
Small but very nice. I saw lots of spiders and crabs and some birds and fish. Very quiet and lots of shady places to sit.
We love this place for a nice quiet nature walk. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The exhibits are also fun. In the fall and winter when the weather cools down a bit.
My brother and I went for a walk!!!nice place!
Let me let the secret out of the bag regarding Secret Woods Nature Center.Easy walking hikes. I saw small salamanders here, scurrying into the brush.
Nice little place where you wouldnt expect!
Always interesting things to see here!
Good interpretive signage. Comfortable walking with plenty of shade. Great place for all ages.
It was a great experience. I was able to immerse myself in nature and throughly enjoy it. I will say that the park staff could do better with cleaning up trash left behind by careless people. Positive experience overall
Great excursion that takes just around an hour and a half. Its really close to the hotel we were staying at and had a layover day before continuing traveling. Everything is free and the staff are really friendly and wonderful
Lots of fiddle crabs and one big spider. It looks like the jungle book in real life.
Very nice place to take a stroll in the peace and quiet
What a wonderful place to see the real Florida, beautiful trees, very serene.
Peaceful, great for connecting with nature. Theres activities each month for both kids & adults. Wonderful staff!
Quiet nature center. Easy walking trails (3200 feet, about 1 km).
Nice place to walk around on, but limited trails and can get overpopulated quickly. Nice tree covering through out trails and easy to walk.
Secret Woods really is like its namesake. Its a tiny little piece of pre development Florida hidden away among the marinas and industrial complexes along I-595. That said, the sounds of traffic and busy working Joes doesnt seem to penetrate. Just go. Trust me. Bring the kids. Theres an incredible little nature center with some live reptiles, and a few museum type displays of nature and early Florida settlement. There are 2 nature trails and a butterfly area where they plant foliage meant to attract butterflies. One of the nature trails is a boardwalk that takes you over natural Florida mangrove wetlands and alongside the water. Its beautiful and peaceful and its great exercise. The other is on dry land but both are peppered with benches, and gazebos along the way. Would make a lovely picnic spot. There are some scheduled activities too. Youll have to check their website or bulletin board since its been a while for me but I believe theres a yoga thing and an acoustic jam session thing. But this information might be out of date.
Its more than a pleasant place to get away from life for an hour or so. Its relaxing and quiet. About a mile loop on a boardwalk and another shorter loop.
I used to go here a lot when I lived in the area many years ago. The facilities have greatly improved and it is a great place to visit and enjoy some quiet time in the preserve.
Love the scavenger hunts & educational activities!! Lots of fun to be had !
Very peaceful. Enjoyed both trails. Still recovering from the hurricane. Not much wildlife today. Will do some research to find out best time of year to visit. Will be back.
Very clean and well maintained park. Great place to bring your kids to explore the native wildlife of the area and to learn more about them. Staff are friendly and attentive to visitors needs. Highly recommended!
Such a cool spot to go burn one! Nice shaded trails and lots of beautiful nature. Theres a water fountain and and air conditioned play/visitors room. You can also host weddings here (we saw someone do that) if you really like mosquitoes. Great park!
Great place for a relaxing hike!
Education center is great for kids to learn about nature with puzzles, toys, and hands on activities. Wildlife is pretty hard to spot for kids on the trails, but crabs are abundant and exciting to watch. Bathrooms are so beautiful I could live in them!
Great place for a walk to clear your mind love it
This is a wonderful area for some quiet walks while enjoying the scenes and sounds of nature.
Fabulous! Whole lot of fun walking through
Hidden gem... Fun outdoor adventure with tons of things to learn in the Monarch Interpretive Center ( for both kids and adults hands on activities). See bees making mangrove honey. All trails are wheelchair/stroller accessible and multiple viewing/sitting benches to be one with nature and it is all free! I suggest if you have little ones to snack before you begin as picnics are not allowed. How could I forget watch out for the giant land crabs along the trails. Shhh happy trailing through Secret Woods!
Nice hideaway to walk around with kids.
I really love this place early in the morning its so peaceful take a nice walk lots of birds and wildlife.
Uber does not have correct map to get to you. Driver was taken to a boat repair place. Same for driver picking us up. She was totally lost. Otherwise we enjoyed the secret woods during our vacation.
Polluted. Garbage in the swamps. Occasional raccoons (trash pandas) the promise of manatees was a falsehood. I wont go back.
This is a cool little spot for a short hike. The whole place can be walked in under an hour Id say.
