A great addition to Fort Collins and a wonderful place to take children and visitors in just about any season of the year. The diverse gardens have been beautifully planned and are always educational and enjoyable. This is a good place to learn about gardening in our interesting, but often harsh, climate and a great place for photographers, artists and concert fans to enjoy a break. There is a large range of classes, special events and plant sales offered throughout the year and it is possible to rent from a wide variety of attractive facilities for your own event at reasonable cost. In my experience, the staff are always friendly and helpful and the facilities are very well maintained. This attraction would definitely be worth a five star rating except for the very high price of admission which now discourages many from returning. The City of Fort Collins spent a huge amount of money developing the Gardens of Spring Creek, but the entry price has now made it unaffordable for many locals, especially seniors, who used to visit regularly.
We had a lovely time at the Gardens on Spring Creek. So nice to be able to get out and do something and still stay socially distanced. The butterfly pavilion is bursting with life an color! With timed entries due to covid It felt like a private tour. The outdoor gardens are beautiful and in full bloom, there are spread out picnic tables throughout the grounds that you can pack a lunch and eat amongst the flowers :-)
A wonderful marvel in the city of Fort Collins, well worth a visit. The butterfly garden is magical, but there the magic continues through the impressively broad variety of flora; garden teams take great care to maintain lovingly, and the diversity on offer is a delight to witness. Its inspirational to see, and worthy adventures for young and old. It was nice to see bunnies there as well.
I had my wedding here and the staff were extremely rude and impatient throughout the entire event and the event rehearsal. Staff didnt have the chairs set up for the rehearsal as had been previously indicated and essentially kicked us out when we went 5 minutes over. It was obvious she hated her job. There was no privacy for changing in the community rooms which were ill-equipped for wedding preparation. Staff continuously walked by and peered into the rooms while we were changing into our gowns, which made everyone feel very uncomfortable. To top it off, staff then accused the wedding party of various unfounded violations and kept our $200 dollar security deposit for a mysterious cleaning charge. The butterfly pavilion is also a joke. They keep the temperature and humidity at tropical levels, but for some reason only have native Colorado butterflies. Hello? Colorado is far from tropical. The butterflies look sad and tattered.
This place has always been beautiful but the new 5 acres is great! Ive gotten so many ideas and inspiration for what to plant at home. I love that the gardens are now an event venue as well. The reciprocal membership program is wonderful, especially now that entrance fees have gone up.
It is awesome even this time of year it is great. The butterfly Room was awesome.
What an incredible gardens! The staff there are friendly and very knowledgeable. The design and implementation of the gardens is superb. A must see if youre in Ft. Collins.
Beautiful landscaping with different areas and styles to enjoy. Theyre working on a renovation of the welcome center that should be completed in Fall of 2019. But there is still plenty of space to walk around and enjoy it all. A great way to spend an hour or so, though theres not any shade so go early during the Summer.
I would recommend going early summer late spring. Easily handicap accessible areas.
I have not been in a couple of years and was very disappointed to find that everyone must pay to enter any part of our garden. The idea that we would marginalize low-income families from being able to visit is not how the Garden began. Any person or child should be able to walk in (as it had always been previously) and enjoy this very special part of our city. A city garden should bot only be for those who have money in their pocket. I understand that there is a way to research and find that the library had passes and then go over to the gardens but that is not the same as being able to walk in and enjoy.
Not a flashy or showy garden, but you get to see what grows well along the Colorado Front Range. The butterfly house doesnt have many butterflies, but the garden is spectacular.
Date night is a fun experience- music, beauty, boxed dinner from Fionas Deli. Come one, come all.
Not super busy but definitely worth checking out for a night out!! Venue for summer music, local cafe, butterfly room; this place has a lot of delightful surprises. The butterfly room adds a bit of magic to any afternoon with different species of fauna and North American butterflies, the lay out is nice and open to hear music during the summer all around the building.. I just simply cannot wait for sunnier weather, the price of nearly $20 for two adults was well worth the pay even in the midst of winter!
A beautiful garden I dont have to weed! My 7 and 4 year old like it too, especially when the water is on.
Beautiful Botanic Gardens! Nice variety of different theme gardens. I hope they continue to add more plant labels. An excellent afternoon.
New butterfly 0avilion is great for volenteering at
Dont go during the cold season. Everything is dead and can be seen from outside the fence.
Little hidden gem with charming grounds to explore along with an outdoor stage hosting a variety of events.
Wonderful experience! They add an element of adventure to butterfly watching with the butterfly identification board that teaches the participants while they enjoy the discovery of nature. The butterflies and the diverse unusual plants are well selected to add to the experience. It is not a big place but there is a pleasant amount of stuff to do there.
There are no words to describe how much I love it here. Been by plenty of times to overall enjoy everything they offer, and have even enjoyed my experiences volunteering!
Newly remodeled gardens in the heart of Fort Collins. The Xmas lights in December are a must-see!
This is a very nice facility, but for folks accustomed to larger botanic gardens and butterfly houses you should realize that everything is on a small scale. The butterfly house is tiny, so there is no place to sit and enjoy, it is more like a 15-minute walk through. The outdoor gardens were recently expanded and are taking shape nicely, but it would be hard to spend more than an hour walking around as it is just not a large area
Update: We finally checked out the Butterfly house! Its beautiful but very small, like unbelievably small. I dont think the cost is worth going regularly, even with it being 1/2 price in the winter, and the cost of a family membership is high. Sorry but I have to change my rating from 5 stars to 3, too expensive :(Previous review: Im so excited for the renovation and butterfly house! I loved this place before and I cant wait to check out the new features, Im sure Ill love them too!
An amazing place to spend the day. They have expanded over the last couple of years, bringing us a butterfly pavilion (yet to try.) We did visit for the Christmas light event this year and it was beautiful. They even had a reindeer for the kids to pet and visit. Great community garden to enjoy year round.
I attended the grand re-opening of the Gardens and they have done beautiful work expending. I was very impressed. It will be lovely in the summer and was so peaceful and serene. Lots of places to sit and reflect and a good representation of native plants.
Well worth the admission or membership. We took our 10 month old on a snowy day to see the butterflies. Despite there not being too many flying around (it was cloudy, they werent active) we had a great time looking at the butterflies and tropical plants. We are considering a family membership to take advantage of the gardens year round.
For about 10 years, my family had a holiday tradition of driving up to Fort Collins and walking around Spring Creek Gardens to look at lights, then Christmas shopping and a nice dinner in Fort Collins. That ended this year. They now want to charge about $50 for my family of 4 to look at Christmas lights. Previously, they took donations and we happily paid $20, but this massive increase is ridiculous. We will no longer make the drive to Fort Collins as a holiday tradition and no longer spend our money at Fort Collins retailers and restaurants because of this. I guess they think only the rich deserve these holiday traditions.
This place is so great for kids and anyone wanting to up thier gardening game. Staff is usually around and so helpful even if you ask a lot of dumb questions.
The Garden of Lights is amazing and the whole family enjoyed it!
We were shocked to see how much they were charging this year for the holiday lights. $44 for a family of four. We can afford it but chose not to go. It is a nice display but not THAT nice! It probably takes about 30 minutes to walk through. Shame on them. Im sure there are many families who cant afford it.
For a young garden it has some great gardens already established. The childrens garden had many interactive elements and it looked like kids really enjoyed their time playing and exploring.
Social distancing there now, but the gardens are a real treat.
Great Park! 5 Stars
It was really cute and fun to walk through. We went for the Christmas lights, so it was cold, and very crowded. I would like to return in the summer to check it out! I hear they have a butterfly pavilion now!
They only had a few butterflies- that was the main reason we visited, the staff was friendly and helpful. The gardens are a nice walk with a pretty view. Cant wait to see it in the summer!
Great outdoor activity and family friendly. Lovely lights in a walk-through garden. Santa and a baby reindeer were there!
They have been closed for renovations and expansion. The building addition is still on-going, but the expanded garden section allows people in. Wonderful to wander and look at all the plants. Everything is labeled, and arranged in theme groupings. The new performance stage is amazing. I hope they have shows soon!
Gardens on Spring Creek I didnt have high hopes for this botanic garden as Ive been to some of the best in the west but its great. During the height of Colorados growing season the place is alive with color. If you love plants and flowers, its a must visit in Fort Collins. The Gardens are such a great place to walk around, look at all their surroundings, plants, there are always friendly volunteers you can talk to... Totally enjoyable place to visit, no matter what time of the year it is...
Beautiful but a bit pricey.
This place is actually very beautiful! Unfortunately they went from letting people give donations to charging 15$ per person. It was part of our yearly Christmas traditions, but sadly, no longer.
Love this place! We go there every year for their lights display and love it more each time.
Beautifully landscaped and maintained gardens. Expansion is unfinished, but should make the place spectacular.
Their Christmas lights were super fun!
Beautiful plants and butterflies.
Beautiful place for a concert.
Such an awesome Christmas display!!! Great for the whole family, and staff which served hot apple cider
Great place for a family activity.
It was beautiful. The children loved the lights!
More than just plants and flowers, theres a lot of cool things to explore and interact with.
The staff memebers are so friendly and great with the children. We always have fun. My daughter loves coming home to show her dad and brother what she made. The cost is $3 for the child and adults are free. Read and Seed is for ages 2-4 but they have programs for all age levels. I would definately recommend checking this out!
My wife and I went there to see the Christmas light display there and it was amazing. You can tell that they took a long time to put this together and the displays were wonderful. They also had beautiful poinsettias for sale and hot apple cider for free. This is a great experience no matter what age you are. The suggested donation is $5 per adult and $2 per child. It is very well worth it.
Lots of nice lights and the staff was very friendly. Absolutely loved the light garden and so did my family.
Not break of sunshine, flowers and animals
Glorious oasis
Ever since they moved to charging $10 per person just to walk through we quit going and havent been back since. I donated usually $5 per person when I would go with kids and we wouldnt stay for long. Dont waste your money there are plenty of free parks in Fort Collins.
Great city park in this area- we came for the plant sale, but will be back for the performances on their brand new stage, and to tour the new visitors center (opening later this year). Beautiful rock gardens are an inspiration for our own garden
Another tradition ruined by greedy people. We have been taking our son to walk the garden lights since he was wee. Amd now they are requiring admissions. They reviced a HUGE grant for expansion and have all kinds of sponsorship money, but it isnt enough. We donate thousands a year to the garden. Now we will not be making our annual donations from 2020 on. I will not be charitable to greedy people.
I was in attendance as an aide to a kindergarten class. The staff was quick to draw the children in and engage them in the wonders this garden had to share. We visited in late October when the flowers were done, leaves were falling and grasses were going dry. Only a few spiders and birds were noticed. The set of stations for the children was on target with what was being studied in class and was a great learning aid for them.Lunch and recess were enjoyed in the lovely setting.Thank you to the staff of the Gardens at Spring Creek for a fabulous experience. I am looking forward to returning alone or for an adult experience during the different seasons to see the spectacular displays I know are waiting to emerge!
A little crowded here with the holidays and Santa being there, but the lights looked awesome and we spent about 30 minutes here walking through and taking photos.Definitely a good place to bring kids- especially during the day because there are a few interactive pieces of art to play in.There is a suggested donation for entering ($5 for adults and $2 for kids 12-2), but entry is technically free.
Cost my family $60 to walk around and look at lights for about 45 minutes and no hot chocalate- it is pretty but way over priced and will not do again. Would do for maybe $4-5 per person but $10 is rediculous.
Very lovely remodel and a pleasant place to be but I dont see how families can be expected to spend that kind of money for an hour or so..It is foco city spot so why not the cost to get into the rec center or city pool for the day..a family of four $50bucks uggh...just too exornsive
Beautiful gardens in the summer and beautiful light display in the winter!
Stunning gardens!
Lovely to visit. For any age!
I love the rock garden. They have expanded recently and are still under construction. They must have triple their size. Looking forward to seeing the new plantings.Christmas decorations are fantastic. Be sure and check it out.
A beautiful garden in the making. Some of the staff needs to know Horticulture better.
We went the the Grand Opening of the Butterfly Pavillion, which also happened to be our first trip to the Gardens themself. Its winter so I expected most of the dormant plants in the surrounding areas of the garden, which I am sure make for beautiful scenery come the growth season. However, when I found out how much my husband had paid for the entrance fee to the Butterfly exhibit, I have to admit, it is very steep- $11 a person for our family of 4. Thats more than movie tickets, an experience that gives hours of entertainment. I prefer nature over TV anyday, but not at that price point, maybe for an annual pass to the Garden I could possibly see the value in that. Im not saying it wasnt a pleasant 10 minutes watching the butterflies and reading the names of the tropical plants, but the high price of admission certainly put a damper on the experience. The price is so steep, that I wouldnt return with family or relatives when they visit. Id feel bad for making them spend so much on such a brief visual stimulation. Truly, Id expect admission to be somewhere in the $4-5 range, but $11 a person puts a bad taste in my mouth. I really dont believe that we would come back unless that price drops. This review is coming from an avid gardener, environmentalist, and great appreciater of all things big and small.
The Holiday Lights are amazing and delightful! There are flowers created from lights like poinsettas and hyacinth, tractor, and watering can. If you love Christmas lights and adventure ... this is the place to visit during December!! Bring some warm ... or hot drinks to stay toasty during the walk as it is all outside.
Beautiful, peaceful morning at the gardens
This is a great place to learn about native plants to Colorado. Get ideas of what to plant in your garden. And its a fun place to bring kids. They can learn how to garden and interact with many things throughout the gardens. Check out their special classes! Beautiful place
This place is great! Entrance is free but donations encouraged. They have a cute childrens garden and they are under construction right now to make the general garden even larger. They sell plants and vegetables in their Green room. Its definitely a great place to visit.
Holiday events for kids are always so much fun here and well organized. Thanks to all the volunteers. Great games and little kid projects. Our 2 year old loves visiting here.
Lovely place for a family outing. I am thankful to have this place in my home town. thank u fir spreading happiness and good vibes
Very disappointed to find that we would have to pay $60 for our family to look at the lights in the park. We have been going here on Christmas Eve every year for years and would always donate what we could but I won’t pay $60 to look at some lights. Sorry
This place is awesome for kids! It would be a little interesting for adults but kids really get a ton out of it. Lots of activities and ways to learn about plants!
This is such a great spot to take kids! The sand box, train, little house, hole digging area, little secret spots along the walkway.... My kids love it! We also really enjoy the Read and Seed they put on and of course the lights/Santa/craft during Christmas time!
Lots of plants and trees to see, most marked with common and botanical name. Fairly large, takes a minimum of one hour to see. Reasonable price, see website. Well done. These are things that you might see in a local landscape.
Nice Winter VisitWe visited the Gardens for the first time to see their Christmas Lights Display. A very pleasant evening outside and wonderful creative holiday lights displays. A nice slow walk through the lighted areas, with many other people enjoying this holiday event. Lots of photos were taken and hot cider was offered outside the greenhouse, where holiday music was being performed. The Gift Shop was open and featured many creative ideas for gifts. Christmas flowering plants were also offered for sale. The walking areas are flat so wheelchairs could pass, but we didnt notice any this night.Parking was free and there was enough of it. Admission was a suggested $5 donation per adult.
We went here on a field trip with my sons preschool class and it was so much fun. The gardens are beautiful and the staff was very kind and knowledgeable. They had a good variety of gardens here which made for lots of learning opportunities. And we even got to plant a seed to take home. I cant wait to go again in the summer when even more of the flowers are blooming.
Wonderful place for a field trip w/ kids or just a short nature walk while on a bike ride after picking up coffee or ice cream. We make it our highlight of Christmas light viewing ea holiday season!
I had never been here before, but was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. As I was only there for a Winter Beekeeping class, a lot of the plants were dormant, but the staff was very good at answering any questions and Im sure they are looking forward to the start of the growing season as much as I am. The Fort Collins Recreator offers some classes that are housed at the facility and I highly recommend the location to anyone as it was warm (in the Winter!) and clean so we were able to enjoy the class without having to fret over anything.
Beautiful park with a small community garden. The restrooms on site are clean and kept warm in winter. If you do use the restrooms on site please be aware it is a PUBLIC restroom and the doors should NEVER be locked. There is enough room for 2 people inside and if you lock the door with only you inside the lady with the kids overfilled with juice doing a dance in front of the bathrooms is going to have to clean up a lot more then expected. So please, leave the doors unlocked. You know who you are -_-.
The Gardens on Spring Creek is open on Sundays from May 1 to September 30. I know because I work here on Sundays. This is an awesome place to spend time enjoying beautiful gardens in an urban hideaway. Enjoy both flower and vegetable gardens and one of the finest rock gardens in Colorado. My grandchildren love the Childrens Garden and there is shade to sit in while they play. Check out the website for more details.
Very nice, but doing some renovation work
Beautiful layout and spread to learn and see many varieties of plants. It’s free and very friendly for children. A nice place to relax and have a picnic lunch.
The Gardens on Spring Creek are poised to expand from being a local, mixed use city gardens to a full fledged botanic garden, which will include a butterfly house. This transformation is being performed in stages and needs the patronage of the local citizenry to attain the goal. Meanwhile, during the holiday season, you can support the endeavor by donating $5 when you visit the beautiful Garden of Lights any evening thru December and into early January.
Beautiful area, would be a great place for a picnic over lunch.
Really enjoyed the holiday lights
Went for annual plant sale. Love it any time of year. Cant wait for the new space they are building. Looks gorgeous.
