Cool place. You can see lots of birds here, and lots of other wildlife. Nice walk for a small workout.
Amazing place to go for peace and quiet and to disconnect from things for awhile. Close to 3 miles of paths to walk on with a lake and nature around you. Many different types of birds to spot around here. You are not allowed to bring your bikes or pets on these paths though. Excellent place to view both sunsets and sunrises.
Big reservoir with birds everywhere. Long trails to walk around looking for eagles. Plenty of parking and nice bathrooms too. There are picnic shelters here and there. There are platforms to stand on with your binoculars to watch eagles. Bring your bug spray because there are lots and lots of swarms of them flying everywhere on the trails. The view of the mountains is great from here and a sunset picture would be very nice
We had driven by the entrance to this natural area many, many times but never took the time to stop and check it out. On a chilly winter day we found it to be especially interesting with all of the water fowl enjoying the patches of ice-free water. There are two wildlife viewing huts, one at the west end and one of the east end. They are nicely laid out with benches and a counter to rest your arms on to steady your binoculars or camera. And there are even bird identification charts. The trail system is in excellent condition and we were able to do about a 4 mile hike by walking on all of the trails. Note that dogs, bicycles and horses are not allowed in this area.
Nice place for a stroll or quick picnic. Trails are limited in number and interest, and any off-trail use is discouraged, so it feels pretty underwhelming. Good for bird watchers though. I like that it offers a natural corridor in the midst of the craptacularly overpopulated front range.
Spacious walk way, couldn’t skate but enjoyed lunch and the birding views from the picnic tables. Excellent condition and a beautiful end of summer day
This is always a place where I can go a lone or with my family, my dogs, and relax. It is a beautiful space.
Good trails, restrooms, adequate parking. Seasonal eagles to boot! Night sky viewing is decent, but not excellent as you would have in the Rawah Wilderness.
The facilities are great. The birding is very good. But, the stench is horrible. Rotting something, not sure what.
Wonderful place to just take an easy walk out where there arent a lot of other people. Lots of water fowl this time of year. There are nice restrooms and several picnic areas. The main pathway on the south side of the lake is paved.
What an enormous waste of land and water. No fishing, hunting, hiking off trail, or pets allowed. All in the name of “natural”, which is right next to the interstate and an airport.
Absolutely love horsetooth reservoir. Always look forward to the hikes, and water activities. Reviving just connecting with Nature again.
I was here in April, so the grass was still brownish, and it was a bit windy. Unfortunately I didnt see many animals. Some birds though. Otherwise a lovely spot to have a picnic in under roofs or not. Shorter walk or long walk, decide what you want to do.. restrooms are available.
Great place to see birds from Eagles, Herons, ducks, hawks and always a peaceful calm place to walk around. Great for photography
I’ve never seen more bugs in the air in my life. Truly amazing. Never would dream of running here again.Beautiful reservoir
Very nice place to get away from the noise and stroll by and relax.
Great trails to walk or run with wo derful views.
Beautiful views and stunning photo locations which boast both lake and mountain views. The parking is limited but there are several parking lots along the path. Highly recommended location.
Great natural area. Quiet, peaceful. Good educational family events through parks & rec, ex: eagle watching, star/planet viewing
Was the only one there and it was very quiet
Beautiful and peaceful. Short, easy walking trails. Clean bathrooms and observation areas. There were swarms of bugs buzzing around me the whole time though. I had to be careful when I talked because they were flying all over and around my head - didnt want to accidentally get a few in my mouth! I wondered if it was just me, but they were following others too. As soon as I got off the gravel trail or enetered the open observation area though, the bugs would fly off - so weird! Vehicle entrance is near East County Rd 32 and Eagle Ranch Rd.
Great place to get away, easy hiking area. Love the resting area on the trails, just to sit down and watch the nature around you.
Took the family out for an unplanned walk and got lucky to get there in time for one of the Eagle Watches. The city of Fort Collins Master Naturalists setup binoculars and scopes to see the eagles, give background, and answer questions. Normally runs from mid December to mid February, on Fridays and Saturdays. Great activity for kids.
Relatively flat trail. Well maintained but only lightly trafficked. Lots of wildflowers and birds at the right time of year.
Its a beautiful and serene place. Nice place to take a lunch break and/or go for a walk. Bald Eagle nesting area too.
Great place to see bald eagles. Nests are visible from blinds. Bring binoculars.
Great local watering hole to dip your toes in!
Great little walk/hike. Has nice view of the sunset when you walk the east trail. Also is sidewalk paved for easy access
Beautiful area. Worked very well for a portrait photography session
Nice area to hike around in
Gorgeous natural area with plumbed toilets, no dogs allowed. Two non-paved loops for hiking that are less than two miles each.
Dress warm. The wind really blows there!!
Beautiful and peaceful! Wish the pups were allowed though.
Meandering paths good for a brief loop or a longer one. Nice facilities.
Clean restroom, clear paths to stay on, wildlife viewing blinds at either end, and plenty of picnic benches to choose from. No dogs allowed.
Looks beautiful, but no dogs allowed
This is a beautiful wild grassland right behind my house
Terrible. Everything that is wrong with the new post-population boom Colorado. A haven for fake coastals, not Coloradans.
Not much to do or see besides walk in a circle looking at birds, but its well maintained
Nice easy stroll. I love the views and all of the wild life.
Nice, peaceful location.Easy walking trails
A really nice nature area with paved paths and plenty of interesting habitat. Fido will be bummed out: dogs are not allowed because of the bird sanctuary.
Its really pretty
The most beautiful mountains in this part of the country
It was a great place to see.
Mosquito Creek Reservoir. The entire walk is a mosquito breeding ground. No wonder the place was completely empty. Avoid going at times when mosquitoes are most active.
Quite and beautiful. However you are not allowed to bring your 4 legged friends.
Beautiful area for a hike
Great place for a peaceful walk, watching the wildlife or taking photographs.
Last time I was there, too many insects and mosquitos on the trail. Maybe part of nature....
Beautiful place for a nice walk.
