Great museum tucked a block off the main drag. Dont hesitate to take a guided tour with a docent. Mr. Birdsong is a gem of a volunteer. His love of the area shines through. The displays are incredibly professional for a museum in a small town. I really enjoyed stamping my paper as I roamed from room to room reading the displays. Certainly worth the admission price.

I went bc the old jail located inside is supposed to be haunted but you know how that goes! 8 bucks for everyone. No special prices. Small and easy to get through. There is also a tour but my timing wasnt good to join thay.

A nice place to visit in order to understand a little of Amelia Island history. Not real big, but a good use of space. Different aspects of history separated into rooms. They kept some of the former prison-use aspects when renovating. I would have liked to see more of this internally, though.Kid friendly. The children can collect seal imprints as they go through the museum and get a treasure when they finish.

For the price, the actual self-guided tour was a huge disappointment. No military or senior citizen discounts - the comment was there were too many military and senior folks in the area and if the museum gave discounts, they would be out of business. The history itself is interesting and the layout of the museum is informative, but for the price of $8 a person, you should save yourself the money, especially if its a nice day.

We visited Amelia Island Muesum on Museum day. My husband and I had a blast doing the complimentary scavenger hunt and learning about Fernandinas history! I enjoyed the interactive objects throughout the museum the most. You can listen to historic phone calls on the designated telephones, guess the items in the barrells, and push buttons for audio learning.

Excellent rainy day activity! We breezed through in about 2 hours and read most of the information available about the island. We managed to get a storyteller who spent almost an hour with us, telling is the history of the island and answering many questions we had as a group. Very cool to know this is a haunted place because it was formerly a jail!

This Museum packed an enormous amount of History into what seems like a small space. The docent, Dee, who took us through each room and each era, was entertaining, informative, and really brought history to life. When a small child joined us later in the tour, she engaged her and made her part of the tour and the child was obviously delighted to help out. Really, its the docents who make this a wonderful experience and the $8 you pay for the tour is a small amount to ask for such a well-kept museum. Its also wonderful to explore on your own. Period pieces, wonderful photographs and illustrations and a great collection of items that make Amelia Island a historical treasure. I would absolutely recommend going here and cant wait to bring my daughter with me next time.

History and museums are a lifelong avocation. AIM is in a small building but loaded with information on the islands surprisingly colorful history. The only negative - our tour docent. Frankly, was worst Ive ever encountered. I feel badly for saying so, but he needs to organize his thoughts into a coherent presentation. Wasted 2 hours of my time constantly repeating confusing stories about Amelias flags. He cost you 2 extra stars above.

Friendly staff. Even had a very polite young man (on staff) hold the door open for me and my wife as we walked up to the building. I was about to pay admission, then realizing I only had 10 dollars in cash any my Amex card. Fortunately they only charge 4 for military/veterans. The museum had awesome displays and very detailed information on the history of Amelia Island. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because all of the scavenger hunt stamps were broke. Also there were some out of place objects lying around. Overall, the museum was great. I love to see a town take such pride and preserving its past.

Im sure Vietnam vets really hate walking into a museum thats supposed to be about local history only to have to recall how their service was so shamefully disregarded by our country in a surprise exhibit thats wholly unrelated.Museum was great overall, but I hate it when curators insist on slapping you in the face with liberal multiculturalism instead of just depicting the historical facts.
