I absolutely loved this excursion! We had such a fabulous time out on the water. This was for my birthday surprise and it surely was rich. Working the ropes & sails was alright but I loved getting to sit back and listen to the waves slosh against the hull as we cut across other boaters wake. We went for the sunset sail in July and we found it helpful to have a light sweater as the sun sets because you stay out on the water until the sun is gone, THEN the crew make port for you to disembark (20 minutes later). The 80° day quickly turned chilly out on the waves. If youre looking for true sailing, Id opt for the open lake option. Otherwise you just stay in the harbor/ bay front area - which is nice but its not like full speed ahead, wind in your hair kind of sailing.Bring a snack/ drink & pee before you go out cruising.

What an amazing experience! Everybody made this a fun and educational experience! I would especially like to compliment the guides Dave, Tim, Larry, and Jeanne. Thank you all so much for an amazing experience. Cant wait to come back in the summer to sail on the Niagara and the Lettie.

Absolutely loved this museum. If youre a fan of naval history at all, you will thoroughly enjoy this place. Very friendly guides and so much to learn about not just the ships but also the history of the area. I have not had the privilege of going on a day sail aboard the Niagra yet but it is on my calendar for next year!

Wonderful experience! The volunteer tour guides were fantastic. The main guide I believe was Larry made the presentation enjoyable for those who arent that into history. The tour of the ship was equally as enjoyable. Highly recommend taking the tours.

I took my Grandson to the Easter event at the museum and the Flagship Niagara. The people where really friendly with him. The sign in process could have been easier and less confusing. The different activities were unique and educational without being stuffy. One complaint...the volunteer doing the Niagara tour did not understand that his audience was young. He talked over their heads and it was very boring.

We took a hour and a half sail on the Lettie G. Howard. While the Lettie G. is smaller than the Niagra it was still the biggest ship I have ever been on. A part of the experience is helping the crew set the sail. Once this is completed you can sit back and relax for about an hour and enjoy the view. They offer water on board and you are free to take refreshments on from what I saw. They have a tip jar at the end. I was able to find a deal on the tickets on Groupon. Deal or not, I think the experience was worth it.

Wonderful experience! My dad and my sons took one of the day sails on the Niagara and it was amazing. The captain and especially the officers were very knowledgeable and explained a lot of the history of the ship and sailing in general. It was really incredible seeing the crew (with help from the students) handle the sails and manage the ship.

This museum was truly remarkable. The wealth of information is so vast, you simply must plan to spend a full day here in order to get the most out of it! From the contributing factors to the war of 1812, to the weaponry used, the major advances and setbacks, the detailed walk through of the battle of Lake Erie, the exhibit showing the extent of damage suffered aboard a sailing ship in battle, the exhibit showing the standing and running rigging used to control the sails, the numerous priceless museum quality models, and the tour of the brig itself with highly knowledgeable guides, this museum is an absolute must for anyone interested in or learning about sailing ships, naval battles and American history!

Great history and tradition are kept alive, from touring the ship to having other vessels such as the Spanish Galleon made available to touring. There are outstanding displays covering over two centuries including kicking those bloody British back to jolly ole England.

My wife and I enjoyed our 4 hour day trip aboard the beautiful Flagship Niagara. The captain and crew were fun to watch and we even had a chance to help out with hauling up the sails. Great views of the Erie shoreline from the Presque Isle Bay and Lake Erie. Would highly recommend this to anyone.

Went out on the Niagara last Sunday. This is something you must do. Amazing crew, great group of high school students in training, and all of us passengers working together to sail this amazing ship. You will not believe how much physical and team work goes on. I would not have wanted to live on this back in time, but one afternoon is fantastic. I do not know of any other place you can experience something like this.

Had reservations for the Lettie G. Howard Sunset Cruise for the 18th. The tickets stated that the ship sails Rain or Shine so we went even though rain was forecasted a day earlier than originally forecasted. The cruise was canceled due to the thunderstorm. They do not provide refunds.... instead they allow rebookings or electronic gift card for future bookings. If youre a local or are still visiting for a few days after. in house credit is fine but for those are not locals and not staying an extra day should be refunded. I will that the staff was very friendly and issued the credit quickly. i may return to Erie in a few months for the cruise and will update the review at that time.
