Found this hidden gem on AllTrails app. It’s well hidden, but don’t be discouraged. I drove a low car to get there, no issues. Definitely more of a nature walk and there’s plenty of benches along the trail, a couple of bridges with lots of trees to shade you from the sun along the way. You might get lucky to find dragonflies, frogs, and maybe a roadrunner or two. Utep Research did really well with this one.
We liked that their trails were well marked and cleared of rocks. It made it easy for my mom who uses a cane to walk through. It was disappointing there were no restrooms that we know of near the trail we walked. We got to see a few humming birds and a couple other birds. It was a very relaxing walk. Every do often there was a bench to take a break.
More of a nauture walk than a hike, but a nice park nonetheless. Tough to get to - dont be dissuaded by the rough dirt roads - but surprisingly well maintained. Good maps with distances marked and even, manicured trails. Lots of vegetation.
Although its in the middle of nowhere, the park itself is beautiful and well-kept. Good trails to walk with dogs and biking too.
Great place for hiking. Bring your mosquito repellent, they are big and hungry my kids loved it too. We couldnt see that much animals like others but still its great experience.
Its a nice easy trail to walk around but it is LACKING in upkeep. The bushes, trees etc are all over grown. Some benches arent even accessible due to growth. Theres lots of mosquitos due to stagnant water. The trail has potential to be really nice but NEEDS to be taken care of a lot better.
Nice little hidden oasis. More of a nature walk than a hike. Lots of wildlife and vegetation. Great place for kids. To get to the visitor center you have to travel on a dirt road for a little bit, but its not bumpy and my little car made it just fine. Also, the brochures they have for each trail are very interesting and informative.
A beautiful place to go walking. There are many places yo walk and enjoy. Lots of wildlife. Weve seen all kinds of birds, a red cardinal singing, big bull frogs, green frogs, a turtle, rabbits, quail, roadrunners, ducks and coyotes. Its awesome. We go at least 5 times a week.
Awesome place to go for a walk and see wildlife.
The park was terrible. The trails are over grown with weeds! Would not go there again.
Great place for a morning stroll and see plenty of wild life. Take some bug repellent, youll be glad you did.
A very good walk, with a little touch up it could be an amazing place!
Saw a bunch of wildlife, cool place!
To me it has the possibility of being one of the greatest parks El Paso has to offer. I have been going for years and it was sad to see it being abandoned. But for the last 3 months I have seen it blossom! My 2 dogs love running in and guide me into new things almost everyday!
Good place to see some interesting birds and aquatic plants. Best time to go is when there is water in the channels.
Awesome walk. Beware of wild dogs if you are taking your furry friend . Took my 2 dogs and gir and walked the longest trail which is 2.some odd miles . other than having to scare off randon dogs it was nice
This is wonderful nature spot for a hike. The water here is clean and safe if your dogs like to swim.
Very dry and eerie feeling place with the dead vegetation and tons of black birds... but it is winter time though, maybe better to visit in the spring.... was still fun to explore and also cool to see the US/Mexican Boarder.
Escape El Paso by visiting this small piece of wonderful wilderness. Great place to learn about ecosystems or simply for nature photography.
Great outting with a local hiking group. Lots if bugs so get some spray if your headed over.I learned that this is. a conversation for OWLS.
Place is still being improved. Good place to see aquatic plants and birds.
This place is a hidden oasis...! Ive heard from people who have studied the history of the geography and wildlife that, long ago, El Paso was once a marshland to the Rio Grande, and this place shows it...! The trails are great! There are 3 trails, which each give their own great views and experience... The first trail, the Bosque Loop Trail, is 0.6 miles... It is paved with gravel, and covered in ample shade, with a few benches to rest on and take in the view... The second trail, the Rio Loop Trail is 1.5 miles... It branches off of the Bosque trail, and though that may seem like a long distance for a beginner, the trail is sure to keep you entertained and in awe the whole way... Youll find yourself around the park and back at the trailhead before you even know it... The third and final trail, the Wetland Loop Trail, is my favorite...! It is 2.4 miles long, and takes you along the different scenic views this park has to offer... Its literally a stones throw from the border fence, but it is in a quiet, rural area, and have no need to worry... You may even see a Border Patrol vehicle parked out by the fence every once in a while...Arrive early enough, and the abundance of wildlife will amaze you...!If youre into beginner bike trails, nature walks/hikes, bird watching or photography, this place has plenty to offer, with a nice picnic area at the main trail head, where you can also find information about the park, trails, wildlife, and more...Its one of my favorite spots to take my mountain bike out for a nice and scenic cruise on a simple trail... Make sure to bring water, and to use the restroom before hand, though...! There is a building that looks as if it may have restrooms, but it has been locked every time Ive made my way out there...Standard rules: no alcohol, no camp fires, nip hunting/fishing, dont litter, do not trespass where signage is posted, and most importantly, DO NOT DISTURB OR INTERFERE WITH WILDLIFE!!! This includes damaging or taking foliage or vegetation...Its important to remember to respect nature, and most of all, HAVE A GREAT TIME...!
Nice little park you can visit for free. Kids will like the different trail options. Dragonfly, Bird and Frog trails. Apart from the trail markers and paths, things are left very natural. It would be nice if people picked up after their dogs. The water is fed in through pipes and Im not sure if it comes from the water treatment plant a ways up the dirt road or where, however it looked clean and didnt smell. Driving in I would recommend going down the main paved road and taking a right, entering at the main parking lot (with porta pottys and a big building). That way you can avoid the sewage smell from the water treatment plant on the opposite end of the dirt road. While walking the trails you could not smell sewage from the plant. Overall, its a cool little spot for a quick hike, let your kiddos stretch their legs. We noticed some of the sticks/logs on the 2 mile were strewn about the path so we put them back in place to outline the trail. Id go again.
Love bringing my dog here, so happy I found this amazing hidden gem b/c I love nature & having new trails to take my dogs to
Very calm.
Great for viewing nature wild fowl and migrating ducks. Open daylight til dusk, free admissionHas hiking, biking trails and can ride your horse.
Great middle Eastern food. Friendly staff. Responsive to dietary needs.
Super cool hidden gem, I was impressed with how clean the tail is, great for families with small kids
Beautiful and nice for walking and learning from nature.
Great nature walk
I saw a lot of rabbits. The border fence is there if you want to stand next to it. Im not from El paso. Driving there I saw graffiti and garbage on the side of the road. Barely saw anyone but it was interesting.
I recommend going on a guided tour. Educational and explorative
Beautiful place to birdwatch and explore nature
We made our visit on a Sunday afternoon. I was surprised to find out that El Paso had some wetlands. And I was further encouraged to go after reading some of the reviews. In the end we tried to make the best out of a bad decision. It wasnt all that we expected. So Im puzzled about the reviews that I read. The water to these wetlands is provided by water coming from waste water treatment plant, along with some of the smell. We saw a few ducks, and a few other birds not seen in El Paso. There were no other humans in sight so please dont go alone. The park has three trails so if you go for the exercise and just to see something different you might enjoy your first time there.Take water and use the restroom before you leave home. I suggest you also take a walking stick that may give you a sense of security.
A hidden gem not far from the city!
Rio Bosque is a hidden gem in Socorro, right outside El Paso city limits. There are three lagoons but I have been told lagoon is the best trail. It would be easy to spend a morning or afternoon traversing the trails. We brought our dog with us and he enjoyed himself on the trails. There were lots birds and other animals to be seen such as a hare. Definitely a nice place to stroll with the family.
Not very well maintained. Hundreds of mosquitoes. Was filled with weeds around and could even see the creek. Will never be back. Very disappointed, although place has potential but it needs some TLC.
Great spot for ducks and shorbs
Mosquitos. So many mosquitos.Great trail.
Burrowing Owls. What else to say?
Very interesting place to get too. Once you are there, the trails are not very well-marked. It seems like it could be a great Park if only the trail were weldmart and there was perhaps more signage.
Really hidden but calm place
Lots of well maintained trails!
No restrooms, people shoot where they are not supposed too, the park is a bit neglected. But good place to go walk and explore.
Rio Bosque Park is a small wetland area. Theres a trail to walk that takes up a larger area which has native plants. Its a nice place to go early in the morning or in the evening because theres almost no one there when we go. Its peaceful.
Beautiful wetlands area with outstanding trails. Great information on wildlife.
Its a great place for a walk with the dogs!
Its a great view and to catch fish
See El Paso along the river valley as it was in the early history.
Open air and beautiful walkways
The times that we went we didnt see any birds really and it was super hot but that was because we went in the middle of day time. Try to go as early as possible!
Such a beautiful hidden gem
Awesome park for fishing or just going on a nature walk
Nice trails to go to during the day. At night it night be scary.
Nice trails
Great place for a walk. I like the rivers around the park.
Went here to do some bug catching, lots of wildlife and very taken care of.
Absolutely amazing, be careful at what hides in there during the DARK...
Not a great place during winter.
This place is a gem We stubbled across this looking for a nuce place to picnic on our road trip & loved it, 3 beautiful covered picnic tables, 3 different length trails to walk & take in the nature & wildlife. Very well marked amd maintained. We went on .6 & 1.5mile trails, easy to do, .6 is WCA both wide and detailed information on the trail guides at the post, loved it here, stayed for more than 3 hrs
Ewww
Nice
Gorgeous wetlands park with some excellent hiking trails through swampy environments. It is a great place during the day, but recommended to avoid it at night as Border Patrol frequently patrols it.
Came here about 6 or 7 years ago one afternoon. My friend and I were just walking through the trails and seeing what the park had to offer. As we walked through a meadow, we noticed a number of Border Patrol vehicles circling the perimeter, then about 4 vehicles converged on our location. 6 agents then surrounded my friend and I and began interrogating us and asking for our ID and having us try to prove to them that we werent illegal aliens. The agents were also dim witted to ask us why we were there and I had to explain to them that we were visiting a public park like normal people do. Eventually they were satisfied with our responses and left, but they ruined our experience at the park. I never went back since then. People of color BEWARE and have ID on hand.
Nice walking path and MTB trails. A bit over grown needs some TLC.
Beautiful wetland area in the desert. There are tons of birds so if you like wildlife photography then this is a neat place for you.
Our favorite place to get out of city and into nature. Great trails.
Just dead vegetation, mesquite and mosquito breeding ground. Adjacent to a water treatment plant so expect the smell of sewage to overpower your nose. You can see birds anywhere in the borderlands. Very close to the Border too.
Great field trip for my high school bio class.
Nice secluded area close to the border. A lot of families picnicing and walking north.
Great place to take your dog for a walk!
Great nature hike
Tons of birds! We saw herons, egrets, plenty of ducks, and even a variety of hawks.
Very friendly staff?
Nice place to walk and there are many animals
The trails arent really marked like they say they are, but it does make it seem more like a wild trek through the desert.
Full of illegal aliens entering the United states
Its Soo cool and totally going back like tomorrow!
Nice one hour nature walk.
Too many mosquitoes
It was nice
Nice place for a walk
