Best arts and culture venue. Rooftop views are amazing. Owners are talented and have presented Dubuque with an amazing opportunity to showcase diversity.

Fun outdoor rooftop seating. Had a great local crafted beer that was full of flavor and sweetness. Loved the vibe and unique industrial look and feel.

Eclectic and interesting. Went there for an art show and enjoyed the pieces. I almost bought one, I might circle back to it. It is not a fancy art gallery, come as you are. The music sound was great, but a bit loud for being early in the evening and trying to talk about the pieces with friends. For some reason they turned the lights low and we couldnt see well, especially if the goal is to sell the art at up to $1,800!

Attended a private event here and it was my first visit. The staff was very attentive and the space has a very historic feel. It wont be my last visit especially with the great rooftop areas that they have set up. Looking forward to my next visit.

I went to the Drag show. The seating arrangment was gawd awfull. Poor guy in a wheelchair was crammed in...There is a brick wall that really disrupts alot of the view as the performers tend to be further back on stage. When I arrived early all seating had been taken however there was floor space to put chairs in. We asked and the guy said that was it. Needless to say standing for me was not an option. I even witnessed a broken metal chair. Maybe you should sell tickets to this show since it is so popular at $15. Seems $10 is cheap for a drag show. Also the performers were not all drag as implied. Lip syncing was not the best. If anyone pulled off drag it is this guy I am posting. This person showed a quality and could go far in classy drag venues! #lips #queenx2.

Prices are average... Food and service were way above average. Nice people- nice place.

Fun place for an evening with friends. Came for a small art exhibit and stayed for the first set of the bluegrass band. Get there early since rooftop seating gets full.

10/05 Update: the vegan cheeseburger is awesome. Green olives and garbanzo were perfect to top it off. Bar has improved a lot and views are still awesome. 12/10 go here.

We rolled into town around 8pm on a Thursday night feeling hungry and thirsty. By the time we checked into our hotel and pulled up a list of possible places to eat, there were only 2 options left that werent fast food. We tried the other first only to find that the internet lies, and its kitchen was closed. Inching closer to famished, we plugged the address for The Smokestack into our GPS and crossed our fingers.We almost didnt make it in since the entrance wasnt where we expected and we had to search around the building on foot through the dark streets of an unfamiliar city. We breathed a sigh of relief when we found our way in and were given a table and menus. After a long debate over our relative level of hunger and willingness to consume carbs, we ordered fries with garlic and asiago, Fried Brussels Sprouts, and a White and Green flatbread pizza. As we were waiting for our dishes in what felt very much like a brewpub retrofitted into an old warehouse, some local musicians started playing the blues.With some seriously good music, the other tables filled quickly, and despite fatigue from a long road trip and hunger, we found ourselves slowly savoring our food so we could listen to just one more song. The venue was definitely loud, and pretty high-energy, so not what we were aiming at to relax over dinner after a long drive. However, every morsel was tasty and the Fried Brussels Sprouts were out of this world. All-in-all, we are definitely fans, and if we ever find ourselves back in Dubuque, wed go back.

Stopped in here on a Sunday night where my wife and I were the only patrons. It felt a bit sketch when we were first entering the place. We loveed the roof top patios and the art gallery though. This was a neat little hideaway location.

So I walked by during the day, saw a sign and thought they were closed. Was intrigued and went in. Was pleasantly surprised with the setup, building and overall vibe (and rooftop). The owner (Karen? From Brooklyn) was very nice and drinks were solid. I will come by for a drink and music next time in town, seems a hidden local gem. Too bad most places in town aren’t so obviously open for business, seems local officials should allow for more signage to promote local business.

The Cuban sandwich is good, really good ham. I enjoyed the live entertainment. Started at 7 pm.

Im from out of town and was just going through the list of restaurants in the area and stumbled upon this jem. The food on the menu was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere was chill as a band was setting up for tonights show. And the lady who was tending bar was beyond friendly and welcoming! I really loved and enjoyed this place and cant wait to come back again!

This is not a smokehouse... if you are vegan you will love the Impossible burger or a pizza.

Really great music on the rooftop on a warm summer night.

Started the night with a 5$ cover which I was surprised with. I take it most other people were too and that was why it was fairly empty. Or, because of the show going on. The bouncer also used a metal detector (never experienced this even in Madison where I live). He also was particularly fond of my butt, but what ever, Im a dude and laughed it off. It could be jarring for others. The rap show opened with what I thought the best act was so again a little backwards. So, I grabbed a single drink for the entire night a 4$, less than half of a standard pour, gin and tonic, with no garnish made sure I didnt order another. The space is great. Second and third floors are very cool - but completely empty. A nice escape with a great view, from a fairly empty bar.

Really cool place! They just remodeled and opened up the two other floors, and I really hope it takes off. They also have a great selection of micro brews and a lot of bands playing there, and sometimes on the rooftop. Great atmosphere to take your wild friends to. Lots of fun!Good luck, Smokestack. This is my favorite bar in town. They have excellent food and awesome cocktails. The owners are doing such a great job and are really cool to talk to. I truly love the vibe of this place!

I like the free rang of this place they have a vary nice and welcome vibe rather place kept clean and the bartenders are always friendly its a bit coward on some nights but its a pretty decent place just to hangout and chill during the week

Quite the unique experience for nightlife while in town. The space itself is lots of fun, good beer and food selection, and the music lineup was dynamite when I visited last. Nice stop while youre in town; Im sure its a great hangout for locals, as well!

Awesome place to watch a live performance, grab a bite, strong drinks, and have fun. We enjoyed the brussel spouts, Asiago fries, and Cuban sandwich. We had a great time at this venue and expect everyone else to as well. Make sure to try the great craft brews and top shelf liquor.

Interesting. Not lively until after 10. Dinner was ok.

Traveling thru Dubuque and spending the night at a local BnB. We like to dine at out-of-the-way places. The Smokestack is a night club with a limited, but unique, menu. We are early diners and had the place to ourselves.The food was incredible, the service outstanding and were able to chat up the owner at length. This place is well worth a look.

Great food and drinks, and lots of different events!

Was very unhappy with the Halloween Family Spook night. The kids where very bored and unhappy. I thought it was suppose to be family friendly event but was not. There was alchol and the parents where getting rude and the kids had no manners people shoving and steeling parts off my kiddos costumes that where tightly Velcro on. There was not enough food going around and there where no options for drinks. just one kind sitting out for the kids to fill there cups but you couldnt get to it because people where crowded around it talking and it was to high.

Ok, I admit the pictures that were posted when I saw this place on Google kinda scared the hell out of me but Im the adventurous type and thought what the heck. I love the industrial vibe and this place has it in spades. On this particular Thursday evening theres a book club (or something) of about 12 and theres another 6-8 of us sippin drinks. Theyve got a nice stage that Im sure has live music on other nights. Waiting on food to arrive but feel as though I wont be disappointed. Dont let the pics freak u out...come check it out!
