Saw the innovative production of Twilight: Gods (Wagner’s Twilight of the Gods) in the Opera House Parking Center tonight. It was a wonderful and creative solution to mounting a live performance during the pandemic. Loved it!
It was great, very different seeing an opera from my car. The music, the singing, and the settings were unique.
IncredibleHistoricalAmazingMust go before you die.
I cannot tell you how inconsiderate & the lack of human decency the acting director or crew & security guard to Twilight of the Gods had today. I am so shocked at the way I was just treated today while we went to the top of the opera house to look at the view. We did not see any signs of not being able to be on the top level and the security guard and another man in charge was outrageously rude and acted as if we were not even humans when they confronted us about not supposedly being up there. The 6’0 man stated “There’s a lot of talent up here and you need to get down now.” Acting as if him and his staff were higher than my friend and I who is also a well known Detroit photographer. He went on to be so rude to not even acknowledge our sincere and kind questions. He was very loud and talking over us. I’m a wedding photographer in Detroit and will NEVER allow, recommend, or be willing to photograph in your Opera house. Your staff was incredibly rude. This intervention was enough for me to never come here again.
Beautiful and historical are two words to describe the Detroit Opera House. The staff was all about customer service, I was escorted to my seat and every staff member I interacted with was happy, respectful, and helpful. The sound was fantastic and it is a small enough venue that you can easily see the stage from the mezzanine. The seats were a classic red velvet and still comfortable. Great experience!
A truly, breathtakingly beautiful theater. The architectural design is comparable to any European opera house. The walls and ceilings are masterpieces of art and the sparkling chandeliers cast an air of romance. The acoustics were excellent and made my experience of The Nutcracker more than memorable! This is a theater not to be missed! Oh...the staff were all so friendly and helpful. They made me and my family feel very welcome!
Great location to see a play! Not a bad seat in the house! It is such a beautiful building! Get there early to check out the ornate ceilings & chandeliers! Have fun & enjoy!
We have seen two shows in the last month (with a third coming in April); as a result we have fallen in love with the Detroit Opera House. The building is absolutely gorgeous, it is so easy to get to from the Lodge, parking extremely convenient (we buy our pass with our tickets) and Detroit Brewing right across the street. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. We spoke with Kathie on the third level and she had such an affinity for the place.
Beautiful interior and very organized. While I do believe if you ever get the choice you should choose the Fox or Fisher theater over this place. This is on a much smaller scale and doesnt offer the luxury that the other two do. Seeing Aladdin the Broadway musical here was nice. However since we went with our city, we unfortunately didnt have the best seating. It was higher up on the balcony and I dont think its worth going at that point. You cant see any facial expressions from up there, just bodies moving and talking. Of course they overcharge for drinks and snacks. They charge more than the case price for one bottle of absopure water. Were going to see phantom pretty soon however, and the seats will be much closer so well see if that changes my rating in the future.
This is a beautiful event and performance venue. The ushers were very helpful and made sure that my daughter had a booster seat to be able to see the show (even though she was initially reluctant). The performance was excellent and the corresponding events for family night were fun and well coordinated.
Great venue for smaller shows. Intimate setting with great architecture and vibe. The seats are small like most venues but the sound is fantastic and there arent many bad seats. You cant take drinks in the main theater which is a little disappointing. Other than that, it is a great theatre.
Beautiful, ornate venue. Clean bathrooms. There is no bad seat
Great architecture in the building staff was nice. Seem to be m doing s lot at the opera for young people who wants to be in plays or the opera
The Eugene Onegin production was world class. Bravi tutti!
Beautiful architecture throughout and especially beautiful around the holidays. I recently attended the Sweeny Todd musical which was wonderful. The seating is very snug, not easy to sit in if you have pains or a larger person next to you. The pricing seems fair, concession variety also seemed fair. $7 for a beer seemed a little much but worth it because I was thirsty and saw no drinking fountain. I will definitely be coming back, tight squeeze and all! Thank you to all involved!
Excellent seats. We enjoyed the show!
This is a great place to see a show. Its a small venue with main floor and a balcony. The seats were comfortable and not cramped. They have a snack bar and also serve alcoholic beverages and coffee. Our attire was dressy causal. There is a parking structure across the street, $20 credit only.
I loved it here! Beautiful performance and building. Super friendly staff. Super busy venue but the staff managed traffic efficiently while being courteous. A wonderful experience. The chairs are not the most comfortable, but the experience overall will make you forget about it. It is definitely worth it getting to see an opera such as Tosca. The opera singers were phenomenal.
This place first visited by me in 2007...Cyrano was premiering...Such a glorious and grand experience. I will post more photos soon...if you are in Detroit, it truly is a beautiful venue that offers so much in art and culture to the community. Theres always a student senior dress rehearsal before Opera openings..check that out if youre not able to attend an evening gala.I have had the great pleasure to attend a few magical events here. m~
A very elegant and cozy venue! We thoroughly enjoyed the Michigan Opera Theatre presentation of Too Hot To Handle on 12/14/19 and will return in the near future. The adjacent Opera House Parking Center (structure) is conveniently located just a few hundred feet from the front entrance of the Detroit Opera House. Bravo!!
Beautiful and historical. My wife and I saw pah Tom of the Opera here and it was a great show, great stage, great atmosphere. This is a must go and see for yourself.
Took my niece to ser Phantom of the Opera. The show was great, the building was gorgeous and out box was cozy. Will definitely be back!
Beautiful place. Not overly crowded. Balcony seats were easy to find, drinks & snacks sold before / throughout the show. My only remote complain would be that the seats are a bit cramped. Wearing a dress, I couldn’t really cross my legs without encroaching on someone else’s space. Aside from that, the atmosphere & everything else involved was lovely.
Went and saw Charlie and the chocolate factory with my family this weekend wonderful performance and the theater is breathtaking. The attendants are all friendly and courteous. Parking venues are all close as well.
Parking lot is close. Ushers are all over to help you and they are friendly. Seats need an upgrade but still comfortable. Great ambience and architecture. Not a bad seat in the place.
Best seats Ive ever had! Row B stage right!
The staff is so kind, friendly, and helpful. The architecture is stunning. We saw Panton of the opera and it was phenomenal. Cant wait to go back.
Parking a joke.. $30.. park in the structure and wait 45 minutes to get out. Seats cramped. Acoustics ok at best. Homeless and people asking for hand outs on the street. Many streets closed and under repairs. Hard to get to the freewayOne lot had a sigh out to park and charged more.. said sign was for daytime.. prices high for drinks and snacks. Would not go there but my season tickets for the Fischer theatre force me to. Next year we have to go twice, will probably cancel my season tickets..
Wonderfully restored old Movie Palace. My only complaint is that there isnt carpeting throughout the seating area. Isles have carpet but when you take your seat the floor is concrete and takes away from the atmosphere. Elegance turns to stadium style ... cost effective? Maybe ... but it killed the experience overall .
What an enchanting experience! The building itself is elegant and grand! Parking structure was within 100 yards and easy to get in and out of. The staff was friendly and accommodating, we required handicap accessible seating and that process went smoothly and it was convenient and easy to get to. I did not notice valet parking but I may have just missed it. Alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, bottled water and light snacks were available for purchase before the show and during intermission. The theater has three levels with box seats (balconies) located on the second floor. The third floor was quite impressive with a commanding view of the stage and the theaters impressive architectural and decorative features. The building is truly a sight to see and afforded endless exquisite photo opportunities. I dont think there is a bad seat in the house. We attended Shen Yun and I believe the Detroit Opera House was the perfect venue for that show based on its size, beauty, and elegance, even sitting in the back row where the handicap accessible seating was provided a great view of the performers and felt like an intimate experience. Truly a real gem for Detroit and we cant wait to come back for another show!
Beautiful place! The only complaint I have, is people coming in after the show starts... 5 or 10 minutes I can understand. Anything more than that its a huge disruption to those who got there on time.
The theater is a beautiful Art Deco building with lavish decorations. We went and saw Jesus Christ Superstar and it was spectacular!
Ushers were very nice and explained the building because we had never been and Phantom was amazing!!
Excellent show. The beauty of the facility breath taking and the staff second to none. We plan to see other performances scheduled for 2020!
Awesome place to have a night of great music.
Love seeing shows here, but there are some absolute dud seats on the floor. Need to be near center if you want to see
Beautiful venue for plays, performances, or musical entertainment. Ive visited several times and am a proud patron.
Love the atmosphere in the Detroit opera house! Everything from the lighting and the architecture is amazing! We went and saw wicked here which was amazing and had a wonderful night. The couple of cons were the womens bathroom was relatively far from where we were seated and I felt like I had to rush to get down to the bathroom so I could get back in time for the second part of the show. That being said, the staff did an excellent job of keeping the bathroom crowd moving. Also, the actual seats were pretty uncomfortable and narrow.
Watched a show hereIt was nice. Comfortable and cozy atmosphere but the place is smaller in person then I originally have thought
Very nice! I would love to bring my camera here and do a photo shoot. I love the structure of the building!!!
We visited in January of 2019 for Phantom of the Opera. Beautiful venue, parking is fairly easy and Im convinced theres not a bad seat in the house.
Love the Detroit Opera House and the work that they do ...BUT....dont give them your phone number unless you want repeated calls asking for donations. I have asked to be removed from their call list more than 20 times and still get calls. I would block the calls except it seems that calls come from the cell phones of random volunteers and therefore the numbers can look like legitimate business calls. I hate to be rude to these caring volunteers but I am beyond annoyed!!
Spent after with mother at Detroit Opera House for a spectacular matinee performance of Shen Yun
My daughter took me to see the performance of Shen Yun. We ate at the Cadillac Cafe and had the Winter Salad with Salmon. It was simply delicious! The performance was outstanding and the special effects were electrifying! Unbelievable how they did them! We purchased a lot of things like earrings, mirrored compacts, puzzles, etc., to remember being there! They are masters in their use of sound, color, motion and lights! It was memorable!
Very ornate building. Lots of history.
Beautiful building. The show was incredible and with our seats 2 rows from the back we still had a great view and were able to exit quickly.
Been here a number of times for various plays and always had a great experience. I will say the concession stand doesn’t offer a whole lot of choices (most things were covered in chocolate too).
Great crowd. Excellent food. Good entertainment.
Jesus Christ Superstar was awesome. What great cast, music and choreography! So glad I went.
Our first visit to this absolutely beautiful Detroit jewel! Enjoyed the wonderful production of Shen Yun. A one of a kind show with amazing talent! All theatre staff were extremely kind & helpful. Also viewed the display of the history of the theatre...highly recommend taking time to view that display. Unbelievable to see what the theatre was...and now, to be there surrounded by such beauty!
Its magical and a historic place and the architecture is phenomenal. I truly enjoyed the musical Jesus Christ Superstar!
Beautiful venue, great play! Great seats (Main floor, aisle 2, row W seats 201 and 202) Jesus Christ Superstar!
Always fun to take in a show at a beautiful venue. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was awesomely good!
I didnt know until now that you could buy tickets for the dress rehearsals! Sweeney Todd was amazing. Dark, but amazing!
Beautiful building. Give yourself plenty of time to get in and be seated before the show starts.
Beautiful building! The theater company is putting together great productions. All in all, a gem in downtown Detroit!
We went to see Shen Yun last week which was a pretty decent show. I wish it was a continuous story or at the very least in chronological order. However, the dancers, vocalist and orchestra were fantastic. The opera house itself was beautiful. If there was one thing I would change it would be to stagger the seats. My view of the stage was unfortunately blocked by the persons head in front of me.
Place is awesome. I hope another one of my favorite bands go to this venue so I can go back.
Beautiful theater! Just seen Jesus Christ Superstar there. Easy parking.
JC Superstar, wonderful performance, seat W201,202 perfect view of the stage, sound and players were just perfect, we had dinner at the Cadillac Cafe and that also was wonderful, to Senior Management of the cafe ......you should allow tipping for the wait staff, I don’t care about your statement of equity pay, it’s not for you to tell me (the customer) when I can and cannot tip. This was the only flaw in a perfect evening, I tipped the waitress anyway ......
Beautiful inside and out! Been there twice. 1st time with my mom, and sister-in-laws to see Wicked. 2nd time, to watch my cousin graduate from The College for Creative Studies.
I can not give it 5 stars because I wasn’t allowed all the way in. My fault because I didn’t set it up ahead of time but I did get a sneak peak and if, no when, I go back to Detroit I will make sure to make it all the way in!
Beautiful. Great acoustics, great pyrotechnics in the theatre. No complaints. My friend and I really enjoyed seeing Phantom of the Opera here. It was very well done. The sound was perfect, not too loud or quiet.I loved the screen with the captions from the show.
Beautiful place. Went to see The Phantom of the Opera had a great time
Nice and Big was in town for an event loved all the help with finding our way to our seats fastest Ive ever been seated when late to an event Thdnks to the Ushers
Had a ball at the concert! The seating is just very tight & close together! Enjoyed my night out!
Went to see the phantom of the opera (touring) what an amazing performance! And our balcony seats were amazing!
Beautiful theatre. A gem in Detroit.
Love this building! If you love architecture this is one of many places to visit in Detroit!
Historical building. Never a bad seat in the house. Drinks and snacks are a bit pricey (5.00 for a 16 Oz Pepsi), acoustics are great. Overall, a good experience.
Not a bad seat in the house! Jesus christ super star was fantastic
It was very nice I had a wonderful evening. The staff was very happy and nice as well. Surely will come again.
My hubby and I took my best friends for their birthdays. It was my first broadway show at the Detroit Opera house. We seen Wicked, which by the way was Amazing! The house staff were awesome and very informative about the history of the Opera house!
We saw An American in Paris and it was my first show at the Detroit Opera House. What a beautiful building, absolutely stunning. They had decorated for the holidays and the whole placed just glistened. I like the fact that they have a historical time line of the building and how it came to be. All of the staff were kind and friendly and even offered to take pictures for us when they saw us poorly attempting to take a selfie. I cant wait to go back!
Awesome architecture. Lower level is decent. Box is the best
Went here for nutcracker was AMAZING! Great seats and wonderful staff, could not have been a better experience
Phenomenal facility to watch a musical. Just saw Jesus Christ Superstar. AMAZING!!
Cool, beautiful, theater. Bar and seating areas available. Seating on the main floor was relatively flat, which required some wiggling to see the performance.
I really enjoy the bit smaller Detroit Opera House. It is perfect for live theater!
The Joffrey Ballet was amazing! The Detroit Opera House is so beautiful. The staff are nice and they sell yummy treats and drinks. The only downside is that you have to climb stairs to get to the bathrooms.
Great venue for opera n musical. Very nice decor
Beautiful building with great acoustics. Great addition to or main event for any night on the town.
Saw The Lion King for the 1st time, my 5yr old Son & I, the show lasted about 2 1/2 hrs, it was very lifelike. Glad we had an opportunity to enjoy this experience! #detroitchic
Gorgeous interior. Seats are pretty comfortable cushion-wise but a little narrow for adults. The Shen Yun dance performance was very beautiful.
Beautiful architecture. Friendly staff. Just be prepared to not hear any of the performers sing, as very few of the mics were turned up enough.
Great venue for any kind of show.
Easy access from the freeway, convenient parking, helpful and courteous staff, beautiful historical architecture with modern amenities. Not a bad seat in the house.
This theatre is beautiful. They dont make them like this any longer. Detroit has the most beautiful theaters in the world.
Concert was a awesome experience Kelly Price and John B were the bomb
I have been here before, but this most recent visit was a private event. I cant say enough good things about the Opera House, the staff and the event I was at. First class from start to finish!
First time there, and I was very impressed! Old time Opera House, loved it.
As always! Great experience. BTW great desserts in their caffe.
Beautiful! Great sound, fantastic show.
