First time being here, and I was impressed! I would have given this place a five star rating if it werent for the food, which was a solid 2 out of 5 alone. But the atmosphere, the talent, the love and even the vendors were genuine. I will definitely be back to support! Maybe just eat before I come next time. :)

The building is beautiful and old. However, the elevators were down and we had to climb a lot of stairs to get to the balcony. There are absolutely no signs helping you to find the balcony and only 1 person who worked here was able to tell us where the balcony stairs are (hint: they are well hidden and no where near the more obvious stairs you can see) ( hint #2 if you find stairs that make you think you are exiting back out to the street then your on the right track)

This architectural time capsule from days bygone is as comfortable as it is romantic. It takes you back as soon as you step foot into the lobby. When you enter the auditorium, you are taken by the sheer height and depth of the building, and you cant help but stare in admiration. I attended four performances at the Michigan Thespian Festival there, and never wanted to leave. These pictures taken from the 2nd balcony, the highest up.(Edit: Said 3rd balcony, not 2nd; there are only two balconies)

The concert was lit lit... but the workers there were not. How do u have half a row of seats NOT nailed to the floor and the only mKe good u can offer me is a further back seat than what I paid for? Then u tell me I should have escalated the situation when I thought I did. Its not my fault the workers there lied! Next time I will know better

If you ever see Swan Lake advertised for the Music Hall dont waste your time or your money . The stage in this place its too small for Grand performances such a Swan Lake. I recently seen Swan Lake here and was very disappointed. I guess the Russian national ballet does not mean you get a great performance anymore. The decor sucked, the dancers lacked Grace and space to really dance. The decor was very poor and the costumes were mediocre. The music wasnt even loud enough. It really wasnt a waste of money and time. Im used to seeing a ballet on a much bigger stage with Orchestra right underneath the stage. This really really sucked and did not deserve half the money we paid.

Great place in downtown Detroit to see a show. Leave early as parking and inner-city traffic can be challenging. Old-school and intimate with a good deal of history. I saw the young piano prodigy, Ethan Bortnick, there recently and it really was a fun show. Nice little bar inside and you can take your drink to your seat. Im giving 4 stars and not 5 because the bathrooms were leaking. Cmon, guys, get it together. Otherwise, a wonderful slice of Detroit musical history you must experience.

I really feel like this music hall needs new carpet throughout the building, the carpet is hidious, it needs a brighter color to match the immaculate ceiling. and it needs some minor renovations to revive the hall

Absolutely beautiful. If you buy tickets for here, spend the extra money for floor seats because the balcony seats while good for viewing are terrifyingly steep (and Im not afraid of heights), especially if you are older. 2 ushers had to help an older gentleman with a cane because the stairs were so steep and the aisles are so thin.

We had a very nice time at Brit Floyd concert. Nice venue. Other then their restrooms being small, and far down in the bowels of the place. Easy off and on the freeway. If I could give you -1 star I would. Please tell me how on the night of a sold out show would you hire an incompetent staff to seat your guest??? I mean who does that??? Your ushers didnt know where the seats were at, then when they seated us we had to move. Then halfway through the show we had to move to the back which i feel where the wrong seats. The Aretha Franklin Cafe is a small and quaint cafe. The performances were great. I gave two stars because the waitress only waited on certain people. The acoustics are great at Music Hall, but the ushers were totally useless. They had NO CLUE as to who was supposed to sit where. There was a seating conflict in our area, and we missed a half- hours worth of the music we went to see while they tried unsuccessfully to get people in their right seats. If youre going to use volunteers as ushers, at least do some minimal training. There was NO WAY the usher in our area had ANY training at all.

Ch
Review №59

Charming building, but very poorly run. Doors werent opened until 15 minutes before curtain. A very long line had formed( in the rain) by that time. Needless to say it took quite a while to get everyone seated. Ushers need better training in seat layout, as it took 3 tries before we were taken to the right seats. Even after delaying the start of the show by 15 minutes, people were still being seated for an additional 15 minutes after the start. The noise made it impossible to hear the performers. Please train your staff better and allow a reasonable amount if time for people to get settled in and make use of the concessions.

The venue was very good!! We enjoyed good comedians. The only problem was people not coming on time and the seats are quite small. But, this place is historic!! so back in the day of course people were a lot smaller. However, if people came on time to The Venue it wouldnt make it so difficult and you wouldnt have to keep getting up out of your seat to let someone else into sit down in such a tight space. Which in turn is just a respect thing

This beautiful venue offers excellent acoustics in a classic concert hall. It really deserves 5 stars for the facility and 2 stars for the management. During the Gregory Porter concert (on January 29, 2017), members of the audience who entered late (as late as 56 minutes after the start of the concert) were not held back. They were allowed by the ushers to congregate and banter loudly in the aisles. There was much commotion, making it difficult to enjoy the music. Why cant the Music Hall deny seating until intermission for late arriving members of the audience? The lack of decent guest management is truly detrimental, and will prevent me from attending concerts here in the future.
