My first concert was here. It was pretty great mostly because it was a band that I particularly enjoyed. But it was sweet because tickets were only like 10$ for the band I was seeing. Pretty alright all things considered for a group I enjoy. Didnt really get any drinks so I cant say much to the bar but it seemed pretty meh. This is an alright venue. Definitely a cheap venue for seeing music groups.
Not my favorite venue in Columbus. Amazing view if you are in the pit or right on the edge of it. If youre towards the back it can be incredibly difficult to see but the sound is always great. There is built in seating on the side which is absolutely lovely, so if youre just there for the sound definitely grab a seat and relax.
Saw the Accidentals in a very low attended concert, but the venue was nice for a small music venue. With a few table seats toward the back (near the pizza window) there is plenty of standing room and a patio. The angle of the stage and speaker placement is questionable... The bar had limited draft (think it was four choices) and the floor was sticky in more places it should be. The appearance of security was there, and they ID everyone.
We went to see one of my favorite singer/songwriters here and had a great time! This is an intimate venue and I would recommend it! Be careful, though, and make sure you go to the website for what you can bring in and what you cant.
They get a lot of great independent bands on the rise. Staff is nice. But this fairly good sized bar has a layout designed by Stevie Wonder. 300 people can get in, but about 50 can see the stage crammed into one sunken corner. Odd.
Great venue to get up close to your favorite bandsVery comfortable place to take in good music.
Blue collar diverse crowd in the center of city chaos
Staff was nice. The venue stayed surprisingly cool throughout the night. A little small, but great for newer artists and more a more intimate experience.
Great venue to see a band or artist play. It is quite small, so if you are uncomfortable with getting close and personal I would not recommend lol. I always have a great time when I go and the employees are usually super friendly!
First time being there but had a great time. Got a little hot and the drinks were a little high, but still a great time. Just a little advise...dont take any purses in...chances are you wont be allowed to take it in.
Great venue! Awesome place to be up close with performers!
Staff was super nice and its a small and very personal venue. Would love to go back :)
Great venue for Promo West brings some great bands to Columbus
Saw Brent Cobb & Them and Savannah Conley. Great show. Venue isnt massive (300 capacity) or beautiful (its called The Basement. Is YOUR basement very flattering to look at?) but if youve taken the time to buy a ticket to a show there, youre going to have fun. Eat before you go. No food options inside.
Looking at all the bands that have and are going to play at Columbus Ohios The Basement, like Flora Cash, it reminds me of a couple venues in central NY, The Lost Horizon etc. Kinda jealous that we here in Akron dont have a music venue like this . Akron did have it all back in the days of Punk and New Wave though. Hopefully that vibe returns to Akron. The city is trying to get an art movement going, and it is showing some momentum. The people have to back it though. Ohio is known for the incredible music it has put out. Its always in my hopes that more places like The Basement thrive and prosper .
Horrible venue. Dont sell 400 tickets if only 50 people have an actual view of the performer. Dont waste your time or money going here.
I saw a show here on 4/18/18. Its a nice, small, intimate venue for a concert. It has a interesting feel to it. As someone who likes small venues for concerts where you can get close to the artists. If you are looking for a place to see up and coming artists in a unique, underground setting, the basement is a place to checkout. My only criticism is its not easy to find the entrance. You have to go through the bar upstairs, through the patio out back and down a flight of stairs around a corner to find the entrance. This does give it more of an underground feel and appeal though. Its a really cool place. I would go back for sure.
Just left the Bones Owens show. Amazing! My husband and I came across him on youtube through someone else we like and we were so surprised to see him in Columbus. It was my first time at this venue and its your typical hole in the wall. Dark, dirty and needs some new seating but because of the type of place it is they prob dont care.
A reliably good venue with bar and food options. My only real gripe with The Basement is the strange layout - a bunch of supporting columns near the listening area make it dangerous to dance around or mosh too much without running into them.Sound system is fine, though the last group I saw had to ask the staff to futz with things throughout their set.Location is central, and walkable, though no public bike parking nearby is a major hassle.
This place is about 1,000 degrees. I don’t know if they don’t have AC or just are choosing not to turn it on but it’s incredibly unpleasant. Won’t come here again in spring, summer, or fall.
Reminds me of the villa. You can have a good view from anywhere in the place.
Awesome place and they always have great acts. Genevieve is awesome sauce.
Great intimate location. Under the A and R bar. I would love to watch another show here. Very punk rock feel with nice large bar. Only wish they had more local ALES on draft.
Restrooms were disgusting. The whole place nasty. Drinks were to strong, not made right. No food. Not like I would eat there anyway. Very disappointed. Drove hundreds of miles to get there to see a band. Never again.
Adelitas way was amazing great performance and shows
Probably my favorite small music venue in Columbus. The staff are professional and properly trained. The bar is stocked and slightly expensive but its a music venue. The atmosphere has an underground New York club vibe, yet its one of the cleanest venues Ive ever been to. Great place to see up and coming artists.
I’m amazed this place has more than one star by anybody ever. Worst place to see live music in Columbus. Period. Needs to be boycotted and closed.
Not a bad place to check out a show. The acoustics could be better, but it has that small local club feel that is being lost on bigger venues. Be forewarned that this place does get pretty hot inside. Its a basement, so the humidity can be high.
This is a very interesting place. It is big enough to hold quite a few people, but small enough to be an intimate setting for a singer to hold a show. This venue looks pretty much like a basement with seats along the wall and a bar and for what is used as the stage looks almost like a dock but is very intimate so people can stand along the side and down inside the dock and everybody has a terrific view, or sit in the seats along the wall and listen to the live music. It is really a great place.
Great experience. Staff was nice and make good drinks. Music was awesome.
We saw Bas along with a few other Dreamville artists...Great show!!excellent bar staff!
Great music with Saving Escape, and great staff!
Interesting place but if youre short probably wont be able to see anything.
Really difficult to see here. Avoid it if you can.
Band The Ark was awesome. But the venue The Basement was a rip off. Tickets on Ticketmaster said 9:30pm to 1pm $12 tickets. We were asked to leave at 11:30pm after band stopped playing. Never again
Great small venue!
Great place. Very clean
Great room for small shows.
I went there and it was a good spot anywhere in there but it was crowded of course, its a little small but thats the good part too
Nice small venue for a show. Great sound.
Went there to see Bas. amazing show! decent venue! dreamville came thru!
Decent venue, not great, viewing can be difficult due to concrete pillars
The best bartenders, small and quaint -very personal space for a live show
#livemusic! Girl Fox is the band i want to see. Good music! Check them out!
My favorite place to catch national acts. Intimate venue. Buy tickets early. Show up early for good view.
The Basement is, by far, the worst commercial concert venue in Columbus. The Basement was originally a dance club. When that failed, they should have filled the entire area with concrete and been done with it, but instead, they turned it into a concert venue. The first thing you will notice upon entering the basement is that the layout is more suitable for a 50 yard dash than a concert. The bar is “L” shaped and when I say “L” shaped I really mean “l” shaped. Large, 24” x 24” pillars hold up the ceiling and create a visual maze for anyone trying to watch the show from anywhere but right in front of the stage. In front of the stage, there is room for about 75 people. Those 75 people have a great view of the stage and probably have a great experience. The problem is that the Basement will sell 400 tickets and the other 325 are screwed. There is some viewing of the stage off to the side, but that is a no standing area because of fire codes. If The Basement has one thing going for it, it’s that it’s mostly concrete and mostly (hopefully) flame resistant. The placement of the sound board at the end of the bar blocks a good portion of the stage viewing. It’s not the sound guy’s fault so don’t blame him.The Basement realizes that it is a horrible concert venue so they installed a single camera at the stage that plays on the televisions behind the bar. Please note, the camera they had installed was top of the line back in 2006. I think they bought the televisions behind the bar about 10 years earlier than that. When you want them to put a television on that shows the stage, they have to flip a switch on a little box connected to the back of the television that says TV on one side and GAME on the other. Please join me in a little prayer… “Dear Lord and Heavenly Father, Great God above. Please see it in Your heart that someday when The Basement venue is empty without a living soul to be harmed, that You will, In your Grace, cause those obnoxious pillars to collapse and fill the entire Basement with rubble so that it can never again be used as a concert venue. In Your Name we pray.”The bartenders are nice. The bathrooms are filled with previous concert venue stickers and fun graffiti. These are the only two redeeming qualities of The Basement.Avoid.
Reminds me of college bar mean mr. mustards at OSU also in a basement (in a good way).
I went to the We Are Harlot concert here last night and it was great! Even after arriving 35 minutes late due to traffic I was still close and we even had a meet and greet with the band after. I love it here :)
This place is great for seeing small bands! And the bar tenders are nice
Nice atmosphere. However, their ceiling around the stage is very low and it makes sounds compressed, which is not great.
Ive been here twice to watch bands play. Its a great little spot.
I didnt like this venue very much. The sound was pretty good, but the show I went to was very crowded and if you dont get there early and get a spot up front, or youre not 65 there is hardly any way to see the performer. The layout is pretty terrible. There are several large pillars holding up the ceiling (because you are in a basement) that obstruct your view. And there are only 3 pockets to view the stage which fill fast. To view the front of the stage there is very limited seating in a pit, then behind that there is space to stand, but bar backs right up to it. You can maybe fit 6 rows of people before you hit the bar. And the stage is NOT raised up any.I arrived an hour before the opener went on and couldnt see anything. So just a warning, if you want to see a show here, arrive early or youre left to wander around the back of the club trying to catch a glimpse of the stage.I wont go back to The Basement for a show.
Nice laid back chill environment. Thoroughly enjoyed my time there!
Very cool location to see a concert. Its dimly lit just like a basement. Bartenders were great.
The venue is really small its literally a basement but it was perfect for the Kalin and Myles concert I mean was it was burning up and I had stand super close to people for hours. It was perfect because I felt like they got to interact with us more since it was a smaller venue. I also loved how they gave out free water that was ice cold after because I was dehydrated and about to lose my voice.
My first trip to this venue. Thoroughly enjoyed bands & impressed by # of toilet stalls.
Great atmosphere, good people working it, and goid beer selection for adults.
Awesome place! Layed back and chill environment. Wonderful staff!!!
Awesome show from awesome people.
Fun to see where twenty pilots started!
This is a cool place! The bands were amazing
The staff was wonderful n enjoyed steve moakler very much...always worth traveling to see him
Great place to see a live show, as well as perform live. Great acoustics, recorded a show with a video camera and sound qualities were amazing. Awesome staff, a must to check out for anybody
SonReal was here so this place is amazing. ️️
Intimate venue. Terrible acoustics. The name does it justice
Very small venue, which allows you to get up close and personal with your favorite band. Loved this place.
Definitely one of my favorite dive live concert venues! Drink prices could be better though... overpriced so I definitely recommend pre-gaming.
Intimate venue for up and coming artists
A.B.K concert had a blast
Its a great venue but fills up fast get there way before the concert starts or else u may not be able to see anything. But personally I love it
Faux, pre-fab dive bar. Made to look and feel scummy on purpose, yet security at the front door is straight yuppie. Prepare to be frisked and turned away if you are carrying a purse. Took an Uber and cant take your bag back to your car? Tough luck. Rather than just take a look through it like most places, they will actually turn ticket holders with purses away. You cant even toss it in a bin at your own risk. Let us also ponder the fact that the people most likely to carry purses (femmes) are also the least likely to commit random acts of violence. If you actually get inside, it wont make much difference because its impossible to see the stage, from any vantage point. Dont bother with this place. Go to Ace of Cups, Bourbon Street, Spacebar etc... The Basement is garbage.
I saw yungblud here and I loved it
Bar knows how to pour a strong drink and the atmosphere is perfect for the bands they book
Rockin venue..great people
Great venue, intimate space, cozy. Also a firetrap.
Actually not a bad venue, but there is no climate control, so you will die a sweaty death in the summer.
Saw Temples here, amazing show, neat little venue. I cant wait to go back!
Its a small venue, but thats why I love it. They bring in some awesome bands and the service is friendly.
Good concerts! Decent prices heavy pours!
Ok the venue is really cool. We saw Bumpin Uglies, balyhoo and should have seen passifire. However, my husband got kicked out of the show for wanting to show love and support to the bands! The supposed dancefloor was packed shoulder to shoulder with people who didnt show any love to the bands. No dancing or movement. It was weird and honestly made me feel bad for the performers who I assume would much rather see people moving around! I think this venue would be better if the dancefloor was reserved for people who, oh I dont know, wanna dance maybe? Id love to see another show here but not with the uptight Columbus crowd at that show! Dont pay to see bands you dont like enough to move your spirit and definitely dont show hate to people who are having fun at a reggae show! Irie vibes to the performers and The Basement should consider reserving the dancefloor for actual people whod like to dance!!!!!
Its a little cramped, but youre practically on stage with the band.
Take squeeze and hot in the summer. But small, intimate venue for great shows like Run River North.
It is what it says a basement stars lost for obstructed views imagine that in a basement . Staff always helpful and professional and friendly
Seen Lacey Strum. Had a blast!
A great and intimate venue!
Great intimate venue.
Hot, sweaty and way too loud.
