Shelter gardens is an essential stop for residents and tourists alike! Its winding exposed aggregate pathways bost easy comfortable walking, mated with wonderful displays of exquisite landscape and flowing water features culminate to produce a peaceful, settling, outdoor experience like no other, and not to be left out are the park squirrels, who aid in adding smiles and positive attitudes by their cute and playful behaviors.

Peaceful, well-maintained Park with paved pathways winding around the 5 acre property. Enjoy multiple water features & waterfall with coy pond. I liked that all of the vegetation & tree variations were labeled. All 5 senses go to work & I can imagine how this place must look fully bloomed on a sunny day (cloudy morning today). Theres also an old schoolhouse you can walk into, sit down or leave your mark on the chalkboards. Love this place!

One of my favorite places in Columbia. All the lovely flowers, the lush plants, the towering trees. Its a magical place. A wonderful, serene escape in the middle of the city. Everyone should go here at least once.

Ra
Review №34

A rare and beautiful example of a formal garden with plant varieties in abundance. It is evident that the Shelter Insurance Company has invested time, money, and thoughtful planning in this oasis of a park on the edge of Columbia. With the corporate buildings nearby, and a large apartment complex bordering one side of the gardens, it is still quiet, peaceful, and serene. A place where one can go to walk, be alone, be quiet in an otherwise noisy world. Time set aside in Shelter Gardens to think, pray, meditate, wander aimlessly, or spread a blanket and lay underneath a canopy of clouds is time well spent. A true treasure of Columbia, Missouri and not to be missed at any season of the year.

Beautiful and tranquil, the perfect place to just walk or sit, and put your mind at ease.... or have a picnic! This gorgeous outdoor area also offers an educational benefit to botany students, or any green thumb enthusiast, as all the trees and shrubs are labeled. Another plus to this already free-to-public outdoor area is that it makes a great photo op for any occasion, complete with stone pathways, fountains, flowers, evergreens, a gazebo and even and old school house! Doggy mess bag/drop off stations are available at the entry to help maintain the gardens cleanliness.

A perfect little oasis in the middle of the city. I didnt even know it was there for years, because it is kind of hidden in the parking lot of Shelter Insurance. It is so peaceful and beautiful and I love being able to learn the names of native plants and trees. Be sure to be on your best behavior though, there is always a security guard walking around on duty. Dogs are allowed, but must be on a leash (I did get stopped for that).

St

Absolutely beautiful garden area. I wish it was open a bit later in the day, but I understand why they need to close up shop when the sun starts to set. Still, I highly recommend bringing your kids here for a learning experience!

Beautiful privately owned park free for public. The park has hundreds of different plants and trees. The park also has several different species of small animals and birds which you can enjoy spotting. The park needs to be maintained well in the month of march. However there are enough attractions to spend your hour or two. The Park has huge parking right besides Shelter Insurance Building.

This is a beautiful, privately owned park that Shelter Insurance allows the public to use. It is generally very peaceful and even more so when users restrain their pets and children from chasing the birds and animals and keep them out of the flower beds. Greenspace is at a premium and I am very grateful to SI for maintaining a place to which I can escape from my small apartment. Thank you Shelter. (No I dont work for you )

Shelter gardens has always been a beautiful place to enjoy. Its a very calm environment, with lots of different areas and things to admire. There are also lots of poke stops to hit which is great!

Oddly placed but beautiful and kind of serene for being in the middle of the city. Google was tripping with the directions. The entrance is NOT on W. Ash. Parking and the entrance is off Broadway in the Shelter Insurance company parking lot. Great place for walking, taking pictures, and sitting. Lots of guys walk there. Lol! I think a cop walking there was either checking me out or keeping an eye on me.
