Nice large park in the Columbia metro area. It has a medium size lake for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing and has several nice trails, (some concrete, some natural.)We stayed in site 19. The site was perfect for our teardrop setup. It is close to the bathhouse and the site was almost perfectly level. The bathhouse was clean, but is showing it’s age. Only one shower and 2 stalls. However due to COVID-19, it was limited to one person at a time. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only negative was the lack of campground etiquette of some of the other campers. Some would cut through occupied sites instead of walking down the road to the restrooms. The campsites in Loop 1 seem to be a lot more level and spread out than Loop 2.We had 2-3 bars on Verizon.
We had a great stay in the campgrounds. Loved visiting the park. The Staff & Rangers were super nice and helpful. Looking forward to visiting again.
Very friendly staff. The only dogpark in the state park system is at Sesqui. Ample hiking trails for people and dogs, who must be kept on leash unless inside the dogpark. Camping area nice with showers, toilets etc close by. Most campsites are at least somewhat concealed from other campsites. I encourage all first time visitors to visit the main office to find out what is available. Camping is limited during winter months.
Lovely, shaded campground. Spacious sites. Clean restrooms and showers. Camp host was very nice. Easy check in. Would definitely stay again. We donated extra to the park.
Great are views, lots to do. To many trails to count. Picnic areas. Dont forget kayaks, pedal board, and pedal boards. Family fun galore.
We loved this place! We stayed on a Saturday and Sunday night and I was pleasantly surprised about how quiet it was! The little lake was another added bonus! I hope to come back !
Very nice trails around the lake. Much of the trail is paved while other parts are not, but very well maintained. The park features picnic areas and tables for relaxing. Would definitely visit again!
Really enjoy taking walks here. If you plan on going often, best to get a season pass.
A beautiful setting among the tall pines. My only concern would be that Id have to carefully pick my site as a lot of them were sloped, eroded and rutted. and in some cases had trees that would interfere with entering or exiting the site. I enjoyed my stay.
We wanted to enjoy some outdoor nature time and take a walk. We went to the park, walked around the lake. We saw some wonderful nature, pine cones, mushrooms and a slight refreshing breeze!! I would highly recommend the park!
Rented a paddle boat and enjoyed a nice calm paddle in their lake alongside some ducks and swans, the staff is super friendly and helpful the weather was fantastic and the restrooms were very clean. Would recommend for a nice relaxing time!!!
It feels odd being in a forest in the middle of the capital city, but its a beautiful and peaceful area. Perfect for day hiking!
We did the loop around the lake. A lovely walk! A bit longer by almost half a mile than the stated 2 mile length of the trail, but not bad.
Camping, bike trails, nature walks, canoeing and geocaching! Our family had an amazing 4 day vacation!
Great park within the City! Lots of hikes, and lots of sand! No water/restrooms on the trail, so plan accordingly! Lake is small, but would be fun with some paddle boards.
Beautiful park with a small lake for fishing and canoe/kayak/pedal boats but no swimming. Park has a splash pad for kids but it was closed along with boat rentals due to pandemic. We spent the weekend camping, hiking and fishing. Fishing is catch and release, but didnt catch any anyway. Campground is old school rustic dirt roads and campsites. Nice store and friendly staff.
State parks are an underutilized asset. This park is a treat within a short drive from 5 points in Columbia. If you cant spell it, just say the name into Google, siri or whoever and itll get you there quickly and easily. Natural setting and plenty of activities going on even with Covid. Get outside, live and enjoy South Carolina nature.
Two easy trails to choose from. The loop takes a bit longer than one would anticipate (and Im an avid hiker!) Its not strenuous at all. Very relaxing hike.
The scenery is gorgeous, especially this time of year. Great walking and bike trails.
Great local park! Clean and peaceful with lots of wildlife inside the park. The playground and splash pad is a plus. Lots of tall trees to provide shade during the summer. The pond is nice, especially with the available rentals. However, shallow making it difficult to catch fish.Staff were friendly and very helpful, offered me critical information for my visit.Very family and kids friendly. People usually walk or jog in the park.Highly recommend for anyone looking for a quick getaway or relaxation. You will quick forget that you’re actually right in the middle of Columbia. SC needs to develop this into a “Central Park”. You heard it here first!
You have to pay 6 bucks a head to get in, then pay 4 bucks to use the dog park. And the kicker is you have to have medical records on hand for your dog, it has to be spayed/neutered, and a bunch of other stuff to use the dog park.Very disappointed. There are very few free admission dog parks in Columbia (If any I sure havent found one). You would think the cost of admission would cover your furry friends adventure to the dog park.
4 stars do to the Virus only. The camping and the park its self is great. Most of the staff are awesome with the exception of 1 clerk who seems not to be a very happy person? Maybe do to his choices in life? Great place to visit.
It was wonderful but my 72 year-old sister tripped over the extremely high curve at the entrance to the picnic area and was severely injured. I measured it and it is 9 inches high. You should at the very least paint it yellow or try to flatten it out for us senior citizens.
Great little park right outside the city. Nice little trails around the lake. And plenty of areas to gather and enjoy.
Quiet, mostly level sites, good walking trials...small overall park however.
Back in the day you could just go there and enjoy the park. I think it us ridiculous that I have to pay almost $10.00 yo enjoy walking there with my grand kids. What am I paying that money for you do not offer anything that is worth paying anything. So sad that we have to pay to enjoy a public park..
Its a nice park plenty of hiking and paddle boat fun. I plan on going back.
Wonderful place! Its a great way to just get out in nature and enjoy the beauty of it.
Nice park very clean wouldnt definitely go back again
I love you. Was there as a young girl brought back great memories
Great place to get out and play with the kids or exercise.
Great place for a walk in the park.. For now the splash pad and canoe hire are closed due to Covid-19.
One of the best state parks in SC. Its a hidden gem!
Sesquicentennial is a beautiful park. I took my three kids for an afternoon (ages 8, 5, and 4). We printed off the scavenger hunt sheet available on their website and did the nature trail that starts just after a quick walk along the lake. It was perfect for their age, included both boardwalk/marsh and forest. There are many pavilions and on this particular Saturday in August they were ALL full. Lots of parties, family reunions, etc. Even most of the uncovered picnic tables were being used. Still, the park did not feel crowded and there was plenty of parking. There were multiple playgrounds, all in good condition, and the splash pad was fun. My only complaint is that the splash pad really could use some more shade. There is a small triangle cover that offered no shade for the time of day that we were there, and one umbrella. Besides that, we had a great day!
Beautiful State Park on the outskirts of Columbia, SC. Miles of trails to hike, a lake with kayak and paddle board rentals and fishing. If you have dogs, theres a nice fenced in 2 acre dog park. If you decide you want to use it though, have your dog and up to date shot records with you that also indicate your dog has been spayed or neutered. Also a fantastic campground! We enjoyed our stay there.
I wouldnt recommend as a fishing spot (unless you know something I dont lol) BUT it was beautiful nonetheless. We got to see the beauty of nature in the midst of a city setting. Gorgeous views, nice walking trail, and not a hard place to find.
Great, clean park! Lots of activities and nice little trails to go for walks with the family and pets. Even with a $6 fee per person. Still worth to check it out and spend a good family day there.
So beautiful. The rangers were really personable and nice
This could have been a really great camping location but theyre were several problems. Primarily, they didnt update their website. We chose this park because we wanted to rent some kayaks and take the kids to the splash pad, etc. We drove over 100 miles to stay here. After arriving we found out that everything we traveled all that way for was closed, cancelled, or currently unavailable... Instead of a fun stay with activities for the kids, we ended up sitting in the humid 90 degree weather sweating and bored... We left a day early and probably wont be going back. Why 3 stars instead of 1? Well, I guess its because I see the potential but just didnt get to experience it...
Really enjoyed being outside it was a very beautiful day. And very awesome Staff
Very nice. Only stayed over night.
Park was clean all facilities kept up well. My family and friends were able to social distance and yet enjoy.
Very beautiful park with walking trails that allow you to see the entire lake, hiking trails that take you through the wooded areas, canoeing, paddle boats, picnic areas, playgrounds. This is truly a great park for family fun. Thank you SC for having such Beautiful places.
Terrible campground. Rangers arent friendly. Good location for town.
Lots to do for families or outdoor enthusiast. Biking, hiking, paddle boats, camping, playgrounds, dog park to name a few. I love this place.
Great get away for the family. Check their website for prices, but $16 dollars for my family of 4 to go in. The lake looked great. There are row boats, canoes and paddle boats. Bbq stands and picnic table surround the area. We hiked the 2 miles path around the lake, but there is another path much longer for biking. There are people walking the path every so often. Very glad we found it and hoping it will not be packed with people the next time we go. The serene environment is maintained by the small entry fee. Will be going back with the family.
Nice 2 mile trail to exercise and run on around the lake. The splash pad is great for letting your little ones cool down.
If you are planning to fish, forget about it.Took family from NC there to do a little fishing. The lake is trashy. Lots of lake grass. Very shallow all the way around . We left after about 30 minutes of trying to fish. The park looked nice. But 6 dollars to get in.. Not again,.
Need to add decoration for the hidays. Make the entry inviting make it look like you want to come in and see the sights
Quiet weekday walk in nature! people reading on benches around pond, some fishing, some walking!
This was a lovely park to stay at. We went during the middle of March, still a little chilly but we were able to enjoy ourselves. We went camping with our 40 ft. 5th wheel. Here are some key takeaways:- The Passport Stamp is located right outside the main store.- The dirt road around the camping area is very narrow lined with trees. We were able to get through with no problem but it was very tight.- There are plenty of spaces for tents, cars, RV, trailers or any other way you like to camp.- We stayed at campsite #47, it was good but had a few tricks to make it work. The main problem we had was when we were leaving. There was a stump in the way when trying to hook our camper back up. As long as you miss the stump you should be good. This site was on the right side of the road so we had lots of space to move around which made it very nice with the company we had. The site was moderately level so we didnt have to do too much leveling.- Theres two separate playgrounds, one for older kids and one for younger kids. There is also a water play area that opens during the warm months.- Several shelters available to host a party, I believe they can be reserved online through their website.- There are several walking trails including a bicking trail that is 6 miles long.- You can go fishing here, they have a large lake that you can take a small boat out on. You will need to have you fishing license. The park itself does not sale bait, you will have to go up to the closest Walmart or other stores to get it.- There is a small man made waterfall, if you will, by the lake.- They have a nice store to visit to get souvenirs, essential items and more. They do sell firewood within the store, about $11 a bundle, they do have ice for sale, the machine is right outside the store. They have shirts for adults and kids, mugs, utensils to cook over a fire, candy, ice cream and more is available for purchase.- There are several drink machines around the park, a soda and Gatorade drink machine.- Walmart is close by to grab any essential items need for the trip that the park store doesnt offer.- There is a dumping station and dumpsters you can visit before leaving the park if needed.- They do have multiple bathrooms around the park. Withing the camping area they have your typical bathroom/individual showering area.- Dogs are more than welcome to enjoy the park as well, they will just have to be on a leash while visiting. I didnt see any doggie bags around the park so be sure to bring them.- There is a large field to play around in as well.Overall this was a wonderful park to stay at over night or just come hangout during the day.
Nice hike with paved path. Markings were accurate. Nice lake at the end.
Only $5 to visit and the scenery when I went in December was beautiful. The trail was very doable for those who might not hike often.
Great camping area that feels remote but literally minutes from everything.
Great prices on canoe, kayak, paddle board, and pedal boat rental. Personally, I wouldnt rent for more than an hour. The lake is fun to row around but gets dull after visiting each corner. My kids also enjoyed the splash park. Unfortunately, seating and a shaded area was hard to come by. All together it was a fun morning and we would return.
A very clean park! At first we werent sure it would be big because of what it looked like on the map, but we were pleasantly surprised! Theres ample pavillion space some clean bathrooms! Theres are a lot of trails (paved and unpaved) to explore and 2 different playgrounds for kids to enjoy. Theres also a big field good for football or soccer. And during the summer the splash pad is a hit! Theres also some canoes and paddle boats to use on the lake (I dont recommend swimming in the lake). The staff were nice and makes sure trash is properly disposed of. Overall an AWESOME family place to go to!!
Love visiting with our kayaks. The splash pad was great for the kids!
BEAUTIFUL recreational park, a lot of things to do and sometimes they have music band too!!
I LOVE IT! Its great place to take a break and relax if you like quietness, all those pine trees and the lake will make you feel in a movie. Is it the first time you visit the USA? You definitely have to come here... get a water bottle and take a walk around alone or your partner. The cost is just 5$ Adults and 3$ children. There are a lot of things to do, you can check the web site.
Perfect for a day trip with my toddler daughters! Decent sized fenced in splash pad area with very clean bathrooms. Cute gift shop! Beautiful lake with paddle boats & kayaks. We actually saw a deer family playing across the lake (: Playgrounds. Not to mention all the tall beautiful trees. Would LOVE to try the nature trails next time! Beautiful day in nature forsure!
Very beautiful scenic, great place to walk and take in natures beauty
Beautiful park. Great for camping and riding bikes.
Beautiful natural area. You wouldnt know you were surrounded by strip malls and neighborhoods. Great place to enjoy nature without having to drive far.
Held a Graduation Pinic for Son his friends! Had a table near the lake under nice shade trees! They all seem to have a Good time on the water boating! Blythewood HS 2019
Nice park located in a good spot! Check out the primitive trails of the main trails! Prices is high but thats because they put in a water squirt play area for the kids. I go with the yearly park pass for all state parks!
Great camping, well maintained, wouldve given 5 stars but all of the playgrounds and the splash pad was closed due to the Wuhan flu
The park itself was beautiful. Two of the trails are super kid friendly. The waterfall was amazing for the kids. Plenty of places for picnics. We got to feed the geese which made their day. Definitely will go again.
I believe its $10 to get per person for adults and kids of a certain age can go in for free. Nice quiet and peaceful park. If you take a trail their are some educational informative stands in certain locations of the trail where you can see what it looks like or where it is. You can bike or hike there, I dont recall for camping. But its a nice quiet peaceful park.
Its a nice park with friendly park staff and park rangers. We stayed here for the weekend in our travel trailer. I recommend the Lake Trail for either walking or biking. The park is located in Columbia and therefore is near plenty of places to shop and eat.
One of my fave state parks in SC! A fun day trip or overnight camping. Perfect with kids.
This park is a great place for family fun and relaxation. It offers a beautiful lake with boat rentals, trails for hiking, playgrounds and picnic shelters. Theres also campgrounds, biking trails and dog walking areas. Theres beautiful scenery for outdoor excitement. I love to come here to unwind and spend quality time with my kids.
It has a nice walking trail and parking was not crowded. It costs $6/adult though.
Love this park! Nice trails, dog park and beautiful!
Nothing is open. Paid $12 to walk around. Splash pad is closed.. playground is closed. I get were having a pandemic. But possibly add that to the website?
It was a beautiful park but if youre going fishing thats not the place to fish . Also at the gate they dont give out change so have the exact amount of money.
Any place that I may walk and enjoy nature without all the loud noises of traffic and such, rates very high in my book. God graced us with such beauty and we all should take time to enjoy it leaving your worries for him to sort out.
Very clean and well put together the hiking trails were very good
Well kept and clean trails with a beautiful view of the lake from multiple angles.
Great place to camp, it feels like camping in the Forrest as we had a rv with us, there was fantastic views of the lake and some cool other things that I saw while I was here such as the amount of deer that was at the campground, overall a good place to camp
The elites don’t want you to know this but the ducks at the park are free you can take them home I have 458 ducks
We were at the park for a geocaching event and really enjoyed ourselves. We plan to go back again.
Because of Covid, everything at the park is closed- splashpad, boat rental, playgrounds, etc. but they still charge you the full amount to enter. As well, the employees are extremely rude to children who arent wearing masks around the park, despite no government mandate to do so being in effect at the time of this posting. Other state parks have opened playgrounds and things, but not this one. Id skip it and save your time and money.
Easy parking, great trails, and some fun for the whole family- dog park and kid splash pad centrally located!
Great park for families! We love walking the trail and then playing on the playgrounds at the end of our walk. It is a beautiful park! It is also jogging stroller friendly.
Met my wife here. We went on our first date walking around the lake. Then I took her back six months later to tell her I love her. An absolutely beautiful place with many fond memories.
Love this park! We love taking the walking trail as well as taking the kiddos to the splash pad
Alot of great outdoor activities for the family here!
Amazing.. Friendly check in.
It was very relaxing, which is what I really needed today. The entry price was a little more than I expected at $6 per adult, but reasonable as you have all day access.
Nice little area. Had a great time camping with family. Nice, convenient place to stay while down for my sons basic training graduation.
