I have only visited on First Thursday when admission is free, but have always had a terrific experience. Always a diverse collection of art & enjoy meeting with artists onsite to learn more about their processes. A great time for friends, guests from out of town, or date night. Highly recommend!
AMAZING!! Love Tapps!
Hate that Tapps is moving but the venue is extremely artistic and cultural. The staff is filled with smiling faces and they have a consistent attitude towards every one who comes. The events are always on a spectrum and there is never a dull moment. They have very great access to local and national artist and the space gives you side of Columbia you think is missing. Especially the Space Hall there is a certain energy that uplifts you and gives you the much needed fellowship of other free thinkers. Definitely love the ever changing installations and many different concerts and events. 10 stars!
A very interesting place to visit to explore different artist exhibits for purchasing and/or for observing. Its a multicultural environment so leave all the racism and/or criticism out the door and be completely open to a new experience.
Very culturally and artistically diverse. Went to see a live show in the basement. They also have dance classes and an art gallery. Hope to see it grow into something of distinction.
Great flex space for events and art installations. Loved it!
Its a gallery, sure. But its more like an artistic community meeting space. Theres a new show every month that highlights local artists. And theres also a community of creatives that work in the building. My favorite place now is the Space Hall downstairs. Not only is there a room for small indie concerts, but adjacent to it is a film lab. They develop black and white as well as color negative film.
This is my favorite gallery in the city. You will always find something new & exciting happening there between their window displays, walk-through gallery, and regularly filled event spaces! The best part about this organization is how tirelessly they pursue the arts community of Columbia.
Fun event. Enjoyed the recycled dress fashion show.
The art! The atmosphere! The people was great and the bar wasnt bad either.
This is one of the most interesting art venues in town. For the past two years Palmetto LUNA Arts had been collaborating with Tapp´s and they have been great to us.
Walking downstairs was great VIP feeling into event. Great for having a event or showcase of art and music.
This is a hidden gem. The Art work is fantastic
Ive enjoyed Tapps Art Center for years, now. Whether it was a First Thursdays stroll, an art exhibition, poetry open mics, or discussion panels with local authors. Open space coupled with focused areas for individual artists or concerns make it a comfortable, accessible location. They do offer a small selection of water, soft drinks, beer or wine, all reasonably priced. Im happy to meet people at Tapps!
This place is an amazing and empowering community house of art.
This place. This place is the best part of Columbia really, this is the place where you feel like a part of something amazing
Great arts centre with exhibitions and bands that play. Interesting events at times too. Worth keeping up with. You never know what will be happening here. Fun place to hang out.
Wonderful place for many exhibits and local activities. Many local artists are in residence here as well and can be found there. A great place for building the artist community in Columbia.
Just love this new park the artmuseum recently opened
Fun spot but closing Oct 31
Great place for aspiring artists to grow. Excellent spaces for studio artists. Their shows are always interesting with powerful immersion and performance-related art.
This arts center is Columbia South Carolinas hidden gem. For the most part there are gallery is free its an excellent place to visit with friends and family to take in local artist talents and also to participate in some of the events that tapps arts Hosts.
I show my students art there every year. Awesome space!
Great venue for all of your artsy needs. And whenever theres art that features nudity its always the socially acceptable, tasteful, classy nude
Always find great art and performances here!
They play really awesome shows here. It’s always a lot of fun when I go.
Its a good use of a really old space. Its clever use of antiquated office cubicles as separate art mediums is charming in its own way. It could definitely improve with renovations, especially with the strange, large common areas. They do have fair quality hors doeuvres and wines at most of their events and do have a wide variety of exhibitions and events.
There was a large Confederate flag which I dont find very inviting. I was looking for the Caribbean party, thought I was in the wrong place
Cool old department store revamped to host art studios and feature galleries if interest thought provoking art. This place expands your mind whether youre ready for it or not. I recommend a walk through. Theyre nearly always free.
Great place to gather and meet folks.
I attended the EcoFab fashion show and it was a great atmosphere at Tapps Arts Center where Artist are welcome to express themselves in a creative space. I love being able to see art displayed on canvas print and clothing.
Very cool place.Awesome artists.
That Godzilla Guy got his start here. Because of their support of local artists, I was able to make a solid foundation for my creative projects. Main Street is a thriving arts community because of places like Tapps.
Nice place to enjoy art inside and out
Feels off the beaten track yet is on main Street. Worth a walk thru
This is such a cool spot! Ive performed here a few times & always enjoy checking out the creativity the artists bring.
Went here for a concert. A very nice and intimate location
It has nice art
Very interesting conglomerate of artists who have residency in an old professional building! From visual to audio art is covered!
Nice venue for artists and art lovers.
Weird but your not supposed to understand all art~ Interesting!
I love this place when they put on their comedy shows and great artwork to check out. The staff is always friendly and helpful
Enjoyed looking at all the local exhibits. Going down stairs and swing the old soda stand was a sight to see.
Tapps is a weird old department store that used to anchor the Main Street shopping district. I have vague memories of going there when it was still in operation as a little boy in the 70s. It has been repurposed as a gallery-type space with separate studios for artists. The upper levels are apartments now. They have plenty of interesting shows and occasionally movies so check it out.
Handicap people cant get in with a power chair
Studio and gallery space encouraging and supporting local artists. Compelling.
Amazing display of art and a creative haven for artist from varioua disciplines. I had the pleasure of attending the EcoFab Trash Couture Fashion show and it showed repurposed and upcycled fashion from prominent artist. I love the Tapps Arts Center.
Very Nice and Interesting different things happen there.
Tapps always has great art and events! I go a couple times a month and I love catching shows at the infinite room.
Such a great space for creatives
Artwork is always inspirational
Had a very nice time. Came too late for the free appetizers. White people everywhere
TAPPS GIVES ME MY ENERGY!! I ENJOY WORKING IN THE TAPPS ARTS ENVIRONMENT EVERY DAY!!
Funky Main St Institution. Find your artist here before theyve made it.
Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. The artist are amazing.
The quality and quantity of at has really dropped off. They dont have that many people in there, and the crowd has changed. Sorry to see it happen
Historic building, nice place for gallery display/show, but unorganized, unkempt overall. Needs leadership who give attention to detail (I understand they are underfunded.)
Wonderful art space.... has become a cornerstone of the art movement on Main Street.
Its always great to see and old building put to good use!
Love to see a city support their local artists!
Enjoy mostrar of the art and the show was good...
SJW infested cesspool more than an actual art gallery. Hypocritical to have this in the well secured downtown area rather than the rundown crime ridden areas that spring off to the north of here.
Unique place for seeing local artists
Intriguing paintings and photos.
Nice event space and local artist abode.
A beautiful gem in Charleston!
Nice gallery and location.
Beatuiful place, lovely events
Really the center stage for the carolina culture please spread the word AMERICA
Loved it
Artistic
Great display of art
Not what I imagined, there was only one gallery open for business on a Saturday after noon, however there were several that you could view from the windows.
Open to the public and provides opportunities to meet the artists themselves.
Loved loved loved it
Not open when I went by.

Excellent venue for the arts.
