Small free University Museum. Some pretty cool items in the collection, well curated, and the right price. Worth checking out if you find yourself in the COMO area.

This is not a stand-alone museum, but rather a series of galleries in a university building. Nonetheless, there is a good range of art and artifacts to check out. While there are few iconic works, the antiquities collection is extensive and nicely curated. Objects are well-labeled, but the European and American galleries lack introductory level labels. I also hope that there are numbers to help match objects to labels in the antiquities galleries, as it isnt always easy to figure out the pictorial guides.I dont know why this place is separate from the downtown and campus areas of Columbia, but I think it is worth a little extra effort to come here when you are in town. Admission is free, and the staff are very helpful. Last but not least, be sure to pay a visit to the Museum of Anthropology next door. Who would have thought that it is home to one of the largest and most comprehensive [archery collections] in the world? Not to mention that local archaeology and history are presented there as well.

A hidden gem of Columbia. If you like art this museum is on par with the big ones. This is a good place to spend a quiet introspective afternoon. My favorite is the cast of the goddess Nike, but that changes occasionally depending on what is currently displayed. Give it a shot. You won’t be disappointed.

We stopped here on the way home from an anniversary trip. It was well worth the stop! The museum guards were so friendly and knowledgeable. And the museum itself was full of interesting artifacts and art! It was one of my most memorable museums.

Parking and entrance is free. Exhibits are split between the first and second floor. This was moved from the main campus when their building was being renovated. It is in an old cancer research building and renamed Mizzou campus north. The first exhibit and the largest is to the right as you enter the main doors under the covered drop off entrance. The gift shop is in front of you to the left and the elevator is just past the gift shop. The stairs are also just to the left as you come in. When you come out of the elevator turn left to go to the exhibits. Coming out of the stairs it is a slight left then right. I mention all of this since it isnt obvious unless someone is there to assist you as you come in. The exhibits are wonderful. Most seem to be permanent installations with a few that cycle in and out. The north campus location is nice since you dont have to fight campus traffic or pay for parking. It is close to I-70 and could be a quick stop while driving through town.

Best museum in Columbia. The Nyphes marble is my favorite, beautifully lit and that makes all the difference. The Rembrandts are traditional, and lots of other diverse works of art though the centuries. Nice on a hot summer, good air conditioning.

This was a Fabulous Event. The floral arrangements on display were designed to represent a piece of Art, typically a painting. Art is Such a personal choice. ( The Art I want in my home will be different from someone elses choice for their home. ) Thats one of the things that makes life interesting. Some of the pictures the floral designers chose to interpret were lovely and others, not so lovely. However, the actual FLORAL arrangements were OUTSTANDING. The Floral designers did an AMAZING job of interpreting the painting they chose. This was my second year attending this event. This is a MUST for next year if you missed it this year.

This is a great museum that exists against all odds. It can be kind of tricky to find the building and then the museum in it but on the other hand Id rather walk into an old hospital than get radiation poisoning.

This place is awesome and FREE! It threw me off a little because it is attached to a university hospital and once we found it all was good. This is a great starter museum for kids with great mock ups of famous marble statues through history, then a wonderful collection of history from across the state. Lastly many historical art pieces, some original some copies. Come and check it out you really have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Jeff

This place was awesome. I took my brother to see it because he loves native American culture. They had hundreds of artifacts from a lot of places. The coolest one was the shroud that was on an actual mummy. It was free to get in, but if you have a bag you have to leave it by the door. I was also walking around breastfeeding my baby and the man running it said if I needed anything from my bag I could get It. It was a very pleasant experience! If you like museums its a must go to.

Note that is museum is not on the main campus, but at Mizzou North. The museum isnt large, but it is free and has a surprisingly diverse array of art. Cool medieval/renaissance art, and a lot of artifacts and sculptures from different eras on the archaeology end (check out the mummy shroud). A good way to kill an hour or two, and it looks like they will be adding on to it .
