The Modern Wing Entrance of the Art Institute of Chicago is absolutely magnificent. The beautiful architecture and skylight make the atmosphere incredible. Very big thank you to Ken Griffin’s generous donation allowing for this beautiful space to exist. Amazing entrance to one of the most critically acclaimed museums in the world!
Some amazing modern art in a really good setting. I especially liked the pop art and surrealism. I used the Go Chicago Card to get in but I felt the $25 entrance fee a bit steep. Back in Edinburgh I can go to the modern art galleries for free, you only have to pay gie the special exhibitions. My visit was also less enjoyable because of all the loud and rude visitors, which is a shame because I really liked the place.
Its a neat museum. Be prepared to wait a long time outside waiting to get tickets and then, if you want to see Andy Worhol, itll take up to another hour inside.
What more could you want? A space dedicated to art, and they have space for you to stay for a coffee, do work, or read.
Enter through here, its much faster than their main entrance.
Nice facility bathroom doors are heavy and not automatic. No ADA Push pads to gain entry or exit .
Beautiful space, free family crafting and art studios are not to be missed!
The modern wing of the Art Institute is full of innovate pieces of art.
The art is beautiful but the Bluhm Family Terrace is beautiful for a nice picnic
Best utilization of a couple of hours of your time.
This is a local treasure. Worth the visit and worth the price.
The first time I walked into the new Modern Wing of the Art Institute, my initial thought was Ah - an event space! The enormous three-story lobby does scream of fundraisers, weddings, and so forth, and no doubt its a great place for that sort of thing (though Im sure its a bit echo-y). That said, I do like the entrance and the dramatic effect it has, and in particular the striking contrast with the main entrance on Michigan Avenue. Theres a great permanent collection of modern and contemporary art on the three floors, and the special exhibits on the main floor are sometimes quite avant-garde. The guards can be a little terse, but Im sure that years of dealing with gen-pop have given them pretty thick skin. Anyway, the Modern Wing is well worth a visit!
Great views up here.
This review is for the Modern Wing only. I think the Art Institute proper is a 5 star awesome place. The Modern Wing however, is over-hyped. Most of the stuff stored in this section doesnt qualify as art. The guards are pretty rude regarding where you can and cant take cameras or beverages. Signs regarding these two rules would be more helpful and friendly. Theres a snack bar in the middle, which is as wildly overpriced as you would expect and it has only a small odd assortment, like soup and scones. The best things about the Modern Wing are things ancillary to the art, like its function as an event space, the views of the city, and its exterior architecture and integration to Millennium Park.If modern art is your thing, go to the Museum of Contemporary Art. If its not your thing, just avoid this Wing all together. Its not like you can run out of things to see in the rest of the Art Institute.
The collection was amazing and absolutely one of the best of museum in the country. However the day I was visiting the rain was heavy all day, the museum flooded with people. Way to crowed and loud.
Good collection of modern paintings. There is a gift shop also. Worth a visit if you are visiting the Art Center.
The gift shop at the Art Institute Modern Wing is always filled with unique items.
Great collection. Nadar and Alexias were super helpful, informative, and friendly! Great afternoon.
Valet parking available here for $28, easily accessible even in winter
Enter from Millennium park, this exhibit is fairly new addition to the already historic building that The Art Institute calls home
