South side gem! This historic art museum sells, and hosts events. Art can be purchased from here and they have an annual sale in case you are more economically conscious. This is a great place to visit in an historically African American neighborhood and building. Masequa, the museum president is such a wonderful person. I believe classes are also offered here. Stop by, and check out this amazing art space on the Southside of Chicago.
Gorgeous old gallery with wonderful art! Really gorgeous exhibits and they are having a great art sale right now (December 2019). And the staff is fantastic. All around wonderful piece of history and arts culture.
Felt like Home! The people were very warm and excited to show you around and Proud of its HISTORY! THEY believe in Young people getting involved with their Rich History
This is a hidden gem in the Chicago Bronzeville neighborhood. The art work on display is amazing. I highly recommend checking it out.
I went during Open House Chicago. This is a nice art gallery located in a former mansion in Chicagos Bronzeville neighborhood. The gallery is great for seeing African American artwork, which should be expected given the history of the neighborhood. When I went, they had a work that paid tribute to the Blues. Bronzeville has been called home by several famous blues musicians, including Nat King Cole and Muddy Waters.
I found about this gem of a culture center through a Google search. My parents and I stopped by on a rainy Thursday and were treated to a tour and endless background information by Natalie. Natalie was so fantastic I couldnt even try to describe her. She told you the stories of each piece and made you understand the history and talent that resides within the Center. She mentioned all of the additional activities that the Center hosts and made such an incredible impression. The Center is free, but youll leave wanting to make bountiful donations. An absolute must see for anyone interested in African-American art and Chicago history.
This is a great place to learn about art and history! They have wonderful educational presentations and thought-provoking art. The staff is enthusiastic and knowledgeable. This is a special place in the city of Chicago worth visiting!
