Planning our first RV camping trip this Thanksgiving weekend. Went out to visit the site and looks like a relaxing place. Lots of hiking trails and outdoor scenery to enjoy.
Its a great place to walk with family and friends, nice place to walk dogs with water stops around the park. The trees give a nice smell that relaxes everyone as you walk by. The park has many hills and plain Rocky paths. I recommend bringing water and a camera with you, I love walking and taking pictures as I walk by. Overall a great park!
Beautiful, very well maintained trails. This park is large and there are many trails from which to choose but you cant go wrong. During fire season you can see dozens of goats eating up the dry brush. Please follow the rules and leash your dogs where its required (some trails allow off leashing). Bring a mask!
Great camping spot, was lucky to not have a run in with raccoons. Awesome trails with some not being for the faint of heart! Research your trails before you take them! They have bathroom & shower facilities on the campgrounds which is a great help. Dumpsters & recycling bins are nearby too so it makes cleaning up a breeze. AC is also the best campground in Oakland cost wise. Worth spending some time here.
For a 1st time visit with no expectations, this a great place to hike on various trails and take in views surrounding the east bay. Plenty of restrooms, benches, trailposts and maps. I connected from a Lake Chabot trail incidentally and ended up on a peak with good views. Definitely will go back back again to explore more.
A great camp site to get one with nature. Whether youre the Weekend Warrior, Looking for Bonding Time, RV Roadmaster, or the Survivalist type. These camp grounds definitely got you covered. Plus a lake or hiking trails here are a good option to explore. The grounds facilities also have restrooms and even dishes wash sink. Not to mention are very clean and is regularly upkeep.
Beautiful location amongst the Eucalyptus trees! Nice size sites with plenty of space between sites. Variety of wildlife including wild turkeys that walk through campground daily. Rangers friendly and helpful. Bathrooms clean and shower with hot water!! Would definitely recommend!!
Great place, took my grandsons camping here, they had a ball.
Went camping for a night and didnt want to leave. It was beautiful, way better than I expected. The ranger who assigned us to our spot was polite and very informative. Definitely a place Id come back to if camping in the area again.
I liked this hike. I hiked with a group of 10 including an 8 year old boy. Hike is smooth and stable. It is surrounded by mature trees including the redwood trees. There is a fair number of parking spots at this entrance. We started at 6:30 am and came back around 9:20 am. We made a loop around the trail. To make a complete loop, we had to walk on the side of the road and in residential neighborhood without any issue.I recommend this hike with friends and family.
Ample parking in the official lot. but parking was easy off lake chabot rd (however it was a bit rainy on the day i went, maybe had something to do with it). i parked on the road and still paid the $5 parking fee and $2 dog fee because its the right thing to do. lots of garbage bins and toilets around (especially on the paved parts of the route). there is a 12-mile and a 9-mile lake loop, we opted for the shorter route and it had great views all around (a lot of the 9-mile loop is not paved once it splits from the 12-mile loop, so wear the right shoes). make sure to pack water and snacks for you and your dog. contrary to what any reviewers say, we confirmed with the ranger that the park is NOT off-leash for dogs. not a bad thing though, it gets rugged real quick off the trail, and the lake is not dog-friendly because of toxic blue-green algae so its probably not a place youd want them going too far from you anyway. also check for ticks when youre done, as I found one on my dogs muzzle when we stopped for water. there also seems to be water sports (like kayaking and paddle boats), a boat tour option, a little cafe, fishing, camping, and even a small playground, etc. so something for everyone depending on who you show up with.
One of my all time favorite hidden placed in the bay. Scenic, good weather, reasonable overnight rates and not so far away that I cant leave if an emergency hits. My wife and I come here at least twice a year and usually more.
Chabot park is an absolute beauty! If you prefer long hikes/bike rides then this place is perfect for you! But if you also just prefer a 10 minute hike to the peak, then this is also a place for you. The trails are well marked, restrooms are abundant, and benches are anywhere you feel the need to sit down! A beautiful view finishes it off to make it an amazing park experience that will be hard to forget!
One of the best camp group in bay area. Very close to east and south bay. Most of the sites are covered and have decent place to fix 3-4 family tents. Bathroom was clean. Also one of the camp groups where LTE coverage is available ( we use T-Mobile) but just in case u don’t.. there is a pay phone available near washroom.Washroom has showers and dish washing area.Would recommend it for family and kids.
My happy place If you dont like dogs or are made uncomfortable by dogs off leash this is not the place for you
Nice long, pretty cross country mountain bike rides to be had. The occasional secret fast side trail. Bort meadow area tick infested due to cattle grazing
Not lots of birds, but brazen wild turkeys
Love to walk around the lake. Takes about 3 hours to walk the 8.5 miles around the lake. Perfect balance of sun and shade. One of my favorite spots.
Peaceful and serene. Trees everywhere and a beautiful view of lake chabot. Can get a little windy. Staff has firewood for $8 a bundle and they sell charcoal, not sure how much it costs. No other amenities sold here and closest store is about 20 minutes away, so come prepared. turkeys like to visit in the morning, but they keep to themselves. Skunks like to visit at night, so put your food away!!! Stayed from Sunday until Saturday morning...not too many people, as school is in session. Wonderful hiking and biking trails.
We spent Easter weekend here. The camp grounds were very clean and the facilities were excellent.
Lake Chabot has great hiking trails: from an easy out and back on a paved trail on either side of the lake, to some steep trails up the east side of the lake. Add to that: picnic and BBQ spots, boat rental, fishing. Paid parking at main entrance sometimes gets full on summer weekends. Street parking available too.
We had a good time here -- nice place to camp with young kids, easy access to water and restrooms, nice little amphitheater where one of the rangers gave a presentation about bats, easy hiking trail around the campground.
Great campground close to home, but feels like you are far away. Hot showers and flush toilets. Lots of hiking and biking trails.
Did the 8 mile loop. I was hurting for days!
A real gem! A beautiful lake surrounded by wilderness, but surrounded by suburbia. I know that sounds contradictory, but its true. You can park on the street and walk-in saving the admission fee. If you have mobility issues, the admission fee is certainly worth it. They have a variety of electric boats for rent at the marina. On Wednesday its 1/2 off for the boats. A great place to soak in the beauty of nature.
The raccoon and my husband kept me entertained! We called ourselves securing the food and my car but the raccoon smelled it and they were paw prints all over the car and the door handle. Can raccoons really open car doors? Dont put your sleeping tent by the ridge, you will be first exposure to wild life . No cell phone reception which was a plus for my family. The ranger visited while we were there. The park is well-maintained. The restrooms were spotless. I did not want to leave. I want to move out of the city now. If youre looking for a group camping site this is totally the place to be.
This was a great place to camp for the weekend. They have all the stuff you need for a glamping/car camping if you are in to that kind of camping (showers, running potable water, tables, firepit with grill). Great place for kids to experience some camping. We could hear some trains, but didnt hear any traffic. It feels pretty secluded. We also had cell phone service and 4g with Tmobile.
Awesome place for mild walk run hike.. has a good picnic area and boating too
Nice place to relax and enjoy fishing but some people are pigs throwing garbage along the way
A bit crowded on weekends, but a great place to hike. Around the lake is a hilly 12 miles. Trails are well maintained, but lots of poison oak everywhere else, so keep small children and dogs on the path. With an East Bay MUD trail permit you can walk from here to Danville in open country.
I love this place. Dogs can go off leash. Mine are well trained. People are usually the problem. No one should go up there that doesnt like dogs because the area is off leash. Dogs say hi to one another and play. I let people feed my dogs treats too. I do not like my dogs around negative energy. Make sure ur dogs are trained.
Again an unexpected most beautiful day at the lake
Stayed here for 2 days and 2 nights and honestly theres much better places. Virtually nothing to since the lake is not really close enough to walk to and the road getti nf there has been closed for some time. They really are unfriendly to RV campers. Only 2 cars allowed of which your RV counts as a vehicle. 8$ For every additional vehicle, and yes you will get a ticket for it as well. See pictures lol the fee is 8$ but whatever. The bathrooms/shower are about the only nice part of this campground, from nettle being everywhere to tons of reserved spots never being checked out. We tried for a whole weekend to get utilities spots that never became available because if you just show up to this camp ground they refuse to let you reserve any spots for at least 2 days and you can only reserve spots online?.. For whatever reason, they dont let you run a generator and wont let you reserve a utility spot then your basically forced to drive your RV down the road and let your rig recharge the batteries and whatnot everyday.... dont think its the staffs fault for really stupid park policies but when theres several utility spots that are reserved and the people dont come for 2 days and theres other people willing to pay for the fee, they should allow you to use it... other parks Ive gone to are that way which is great... maybe its just me but when you try for two days to get a utility spot and theres several that are just sitting empty it just makes you want to leave and go find a more accommodating place...Between the spots being super close together to the point where people can be whispered around the fire and still be heard lol. So if your expecting any form of privacy or distance between other campers this is definitely not the place to go.So basically if you come here without a reservation in an RV expecting to have just a little bit of privacy and maybe just maybe check out the lake then this is not the place for you... other places out there with much better things to do than a few views around sunset and hiking trails... Oh and lots of bugs in the warmer seasons..Had a very bad impression over the 2 days besides the showers and bathrooms (why it has 2 stars). Hope others are better.
What a beautiful place to camp in the spring! Now the trail maps could use some improvement but we had a great time hiking anyways. Love the gobble gobble of the turkeys that are all around.
Great walking with fresh air and ability to go on water. The trails are not too extreme and are more modest for big city folk.
Good place for walking
A very popular park with tons of lush grass, picnic tables and bbq set ups. People are friendly and make great use of the hikes and docs. Self serve fishing permits are located deeper into the lake and are well stocked when we arrived.
Beware of the steep hill 3.5 miles starting from Marine Cafe. 156 bpm...I almost left myself there.
Great camping very close to Oakland, so not difficult to access
Im rating camping here which is gorgeous! First time we camp that close from home and I cant recommend this camp enough! They even have showers! Beautiful views and kids friendly setting. Awesome to camp with kids (we stayed with our 19m old son - that was his first camping)
Good trails, ok fishing and already missing the sounds of the gun range that closed this year.
Lake was great and so were camp sites.
What a gem. having a place like this so close and beautiful is unbelievable and we do truly live in paradise. Except for the removal of the gun range. Sad times.
The park is so well-maintained. We often do picnics and family parties out here. Kids have a lot of place to play. The hiking trails are good too. . Beautiful views. They do charge you admission fees to park in their parking lot but you can even park out on the road if you dont want to pay. Sometimes we just go there for a simple walk, not even a hike. Dogs are allowed. Amazing campsite! Plenty of people, but still felt very private and peaceful. We come here very often. and oh yes, you can even rent boats :)
It was a nice place in the middle of the city. The rangers were great!
Beautiful and quiet...
First time camping here, and we had a great experience! There are always campsites available it seems like, and its only about $30 a night. Theres a nice fire pit and grill and wooden picnic table at each site. There was a water fountain/station nearby and really nice bathrooms. It seemed very family friendly, and the people around us were respectful and clean. There were plenty of garbage containers and receptacles for recycling, too!
Beautiful place to hiking
Love this place. Very quiet, provides a great scenery. Good jogging site as well, lots of room to run without running into ppl. Also a great smokers hike .
Overall a great park.
This is a beautiful lake that offers a tour boat among other boats for a fee. We always have a great time there. ️
Loved the place. The staff was awesome and also the fact that the showers had hot waterwas terrific The only thing that I didnt like was that our camp sites were far away from our cars, so we had to carry all our stuff, but other sites are car friendly.
Good for walks ..hiking..biking..picnic with your own blanket due to limited table
Took a nice hike at Bort Meadow. It was a great view of the San Leandro watershed and the meadow. There happened to be drum camp the day I went so I had the pleasure of listening to island music the entire time.Bring lots of water and keep an eye out for mountain bikes along the upper ridge trail
The park is huge and well-maintained. Great place to picnic and host outdoor parties. There is a lot of open space for kids to play and many hiking and jogging trails. The lake is truly beautiful and the views from the trails are spectacular. Different types of boats can be rented for short trips on the lake. There are also campsites available in the park for short camping trips in the wilderness.
Beautiful views, a variety of trails, and not a lot of people.
Great local park. The park does charge admission to park in the lot or you can park outside and walk in.Nice place for a picnic or group gathering. Just remember the weekends and holidays the place gets packed. This is a great place for fishing from the shore or you can rent a boat. Paddle or canoe. The lake is mainly planted with trout but there are catfish, bluegills, and bass in the lake. The park does charge a small fee for fishing. It also a great place to go for a walk. There is a trail, about half of it paved, that goes around the lake.
Very nice place in the difficult to camp SF area. Road in is a bit hairy for larger rigs. My one complaint is there is no good turn around at the entrance. they tell you to drive and then go through all the various campsites find a vacancy and then come back to the main gate to sign up for it, problem is theres no easy place to turn around at the main gate. They could fix that in 10 minutes with a bulldozer
Cant beat 70 miles of beautiful well maintained trails for running.
Lots of fun trails to mountain bike on.
Love the outdoors.. Its great to have a place like this so close..
Love this place. Not far and deep in Jungle. If you are in East Bay, you can reach within one hour or so. Cleaner washrooms and good staff.
Varied park with large lake, marina for fishing, bike, hiking and walking trails. On the far side of the lake you can also get good views of the bay. Always popular with many people on the paved trail around half the lake. Also camp sites but I have not used them.
Kids love it.
Park is ok. People that dont follow the rules are the problem. Dogs not on leash. Filling jet skies with gasoline in the lake. While people are swimming around the area. No respect for others. These are the people who make parks bad.
He park is huge and well-maintained. Great place to picnic and host outdoor parties. There is a lot of open space for kids to play and many hiking and jogging trails. The lake is truly beautiful and the views from the trails are spectacular.Different types of boats can be rented for short trips on the lake. There are also campsites available in the park for short camping trips in the wilderness.
Wonderful park. Quiet. Tv and data work well. Beautiful setting. Clean. Wildlife prowling near
Love my chaboy
Nice campgrounds, had free showers, clean restrooms, good activities in Marina and prices for boat rentals are also cheap.friendly staff and clean and tidy place and Close to city
Awesome place to be, friendly rangers. The bathrooms on site were clean as were the showers. The campsite was tidy and clean.
I camped there in my trailer at a site with full hookups for a week. Widely spaced sites in a lovely eucalyptus tree grove. Numerous hiking and biking trails including a nine mile loop trail around Lake Chabot.
Amazing campsite! Plenty of people, but still felt very private and peaceful. Close enough to the city the you can go there if you need to. I had to walk there after a critter got into my food; be sure to secure your food at night! Nice hiking trails, and fairly close to the marina, where you can rent boats!
Great valley
The park itself is beautiful. It has a paved road for hiking around which takes three to four hours (based on time and speed). There is a small marina where you can rent out boats and a boat ramp as well. There is a picnic area, bathrooms, and volleyball courts.
The Brandon trail is very popular with small group of dog walkers and bike riders. From the golf course parking lot the trail goes up the ridge with a relatively steady incline for a little under 2 miles. At the top, the trail junction offers more choices.
Had such a blast at the Anthony Chabot family campgrounds. We had an amazing view of the lake and had cell phone reception to get some work in, if youre into that.
One of the better national parks, clean with lots of trails
Big park, plenty of hiking trails, quiet. Near SF Bay area cities. Camping sites if you like that.
Nice camp ground with a wide variety of recreational facilities available from tent camping, RV hookups, a lake. The lake is only for nonmotorized boats and there is no swimming. There are two loops for RVs with full hookups. These are just within the entrance to the camping area. Beyond that there are a lot of sites for tent camping. These spots fill up fast so long on as soon as the time frame opens to make your reservations.
Very nice park a must see the road to get up there is narrow and lots of hills!
Ive only visited for races brazen racing puts on at this location. What a beautiful park! Wide sweeping views of a lake, great nature walks here. Theres a popular bike loop that seems like a great routine for people. Plenty of parking, although i think theres a fee for that. The lake looks beautiful. Really very pretty there.
Great place for a little walk or a nice hike
It was good we went and I had a great time they also had an Ampatheater and put on a show. I just wished the parking lot was closer to the camp sites.
We love to trail ride our horses in this park, there are really good, wide trails with shade that is welcome in the summer. Horse trails are mostly separate from people or bike trails and thats such a welcome option! Kids like very meeting horsrs. You can meet bikers and loos e dogs on the trails at times. If you go past the shooting range you can hear the gun shots at times.
Nice one dont feel like in a city
Less than a half mile from my home, this is a great place to hike if you like hills and to ride horses.
Perfect for a little weekend getaway. Campground was booked out on Reserve America, but we called the campground directly and they had 15+ sites available. Clean facilities. Stayed at site #32 and it was more secluded than most. Will be coming back!
Great local Campgrounds, clean bathrooms and showers, and the Park Rangers are very nice and helpful!
John Wayne loves this place
Extensive trail system takes you through the many ecosystems of the East Bay hills.
Like entering a clothes closet in Oakland, and stepping out the other side into an enchanting garden.
Nice location friendly staff great spots highly recommend
Beautiful view. Needs trash picked up and a little highpriced but worth the visit.
Great camping spot in the bay area,. Wishing they had a turnaround at front gate kiosk.
