While on vacation, we were looking for an escape room to do. There was only 3 of us and a lot of places required 4-10. We came across lock and key escape room in Buffalo, NY and they allowed 3 people to do a room, so we gave it a shot. It was one of the highlights of our trip! It was fun, challenging, and really made us all work together! The host was great, and he fully explained things to us beginners! And to top it all off, we escaped with 18 seconds to go!! I would definitely go back if i lived closer, but highly recommend if anyone is in the area. Go check it out!!

My girlfriend and I have gone with two different groups of friends to Lock & Key. We completed the Escape From Pirate’s Cove last year, and last night we completed The Vampires Tomb. (I highly recommend The Vampires Tomb before they change the room, if you get a chance.)For the latter, we were assisted by a very accommodating gentleman (Jared). We were the last group of the day, and due to traffic and bad weather - were late by 10+ minutes; completely our fault, but Jared was so nice to not let it affect our time. He said we were the last group, and no one would be in after us - but still he didnt have to do that, considering that would make him leave for home 10+ minutes later.I really enjoy Lock & Key for their consideration of the puzzles. The set design of the rooms is appropriately adequate. If I had to guess - they put more emphasis on the puzzles than on the atmosphere (i.e. that is not to say they lack in it). I respect them greatly for their challenges, because I feel the puzzles and challenges are challenging enough, but not ridiculous, illogical, or out of the theme of the room. I have been to other escape rooms where the challenges were out of place, or sometimes unfair to the players to search every square inch of the space. Its the difference between mind teasers and I Spy books; and I feel Lock & Key does a great job of putting focus on the former, and giving credit to the players for actually figuring out mental puzzles.Silly thing: if I had one complaint about The Vampires Tomb room, itd only be in the first room, youre in the study of a suspected vampire - and on one of the shelves, there is a bottle of Holy Water. The geek inside of me said, What kind of vampire keeps something so foul to their being, so near to them?. :)I hope youre able to overcome such a trivial thing like that, like we were, to see the overall excellent quality of a place of entertainment and mind teasers. I highly recommend anyone to give Lock & Key a try.

Such a fun experience! The Grim Forest was difficult and unfortunately we made it out 1 minute over the hour, but we had so much fun! Would definitely visit again!

This place was an amazing experience. Jared was extremely friendly and helpful with a late booking. We did the Grimm escape room which had a great overall theme with challenging puzzles. Very nice business that was clean and inviting. We even received a call later when a member of our party left their coat as a heads up that it was there. I would highly recommend this escape room for birthdays or any other events, or even just a fun night out.

We did the Vampires Lair on 7/28 at 530pm and had the best time! We do a TON of escape rooms all over the country and this was definitely top notch! Our game master was super helpful which makes all the difference. The room was the perfect balance of generation in games and difficulty for a group with one newbie and 4 vets. We will be back for the newer room for sure!

Overall, a very well thought out escape room. We did the Vampire’s Lair.I appreciated the variety of puzzles (not just lock and key combos) and the relative difficulty of solving the puzzles.We would definitely explore more of their rooms in the future.Also, it’s very much appreciated that the room reservations are private.

Not bad at all! Ive been to a few escape rooms before and they were all pretty good. This one was also! We made it out with 53 seconds to spare. A few of the puzzles were a little annoying as things didnt seem to work perfectly. But we still had a great time.

Took my students to Lock & Key as an activity for understanding game and environment design. Staff was very friendly and helpful to students who hadnt done an escape room before. And they worked with us to get group rates, bookings, and payments handled!

I took my work team to Lock & Key for the Vampire Escape room. It was a very well appointed experience, and the staff was fun, friendly and helpful. It was challenging, but very fun. We cant wait to try another room!

This was our first experience at an Escape Room. I had read numerous reviews of many choices in the WNY area and this site had the best reviews! Now I know why. The experience was incredible. We did the Pirates Cove. It was challenging, wonderfully engaging, fun, and would do it again. They have two rooms at this place. The young lady who was our host was wonderful as well.

Ive been to a few escape rooms but the puzzles in this one were the best. You really had to think outside the box to use the clues. We had a great bunch of intelligent people working on the clues and were able to escape with 3 minutes to spare. But we worked hard and as quick as possible. There was more to it than just finding the items you needed to solve the puzzle. You had to wrack your brain and pull it in odd directions to figure out how to actually use the found items. I think this made it a bit different than some other escape rooms.There are two rooms to choose from, Pirates Cove and Vampires Lair. I chose to do the Vampires Lair. It involved coffins, skulls, bones, pentagrams and other dark items. Numbers, colors, words were all used in the different puzzles. It was interesting and a lot of fun. The rooms were spacious and clean. The facility was a little hard to find....down an alley on the side of a building then down to the basement. The owners were helpful and very welcoming. They gave us good instructions and a few helpful hints during the hunt. I would recommend this escape room.

Four of us went to The Vampire’s Lair on Saturday evening, hopeful of solving it, but not really optimistic. We were greeted promptly and were briefed, and then led into the Lair. It was pleasantly clean, the room furnishings were attractive and everything seemed to be a clue. We did need to get a few small hints, but we were successful. Clues were clever and well planned out, and we had a lot of fun

Love the challenge of the Vampires Tomb! It wasnt too simple or too difficult, just enough to really enjoy. I would highly recommend this escape room and look forward to attempting to escape Pirates Cove.

We had a lot of fun. Great team building activity. I would recommend this as a fun night out with friends or family. Easy parking access in the back. I wish we had a little more time in the rooms. An hour and a half would have been better for our group as newbies to the escape room concept. We will do this again.

Went to Lock and Key with my D&D group plus one, and had a blast! We’re running the Curse of Strahd campaign, so the Vampire Lair Room was perfect for us to mess around in and out of character and do a puzzle in-person. Hoping to do another room when we visit Buffalo again!!

This was a lot of fun. My wife and I went with our 2 sons and one of their girlfriends. All had a great timeEven though we didnt escape. It was more challenging then we thought and unfolded more and more. It wasClean and well set up and the staff was awesome. We loved it and cant wait to go back for another room.

My group did the House of Secrets room. We had 5 people and everyone really enjoyed the room. Lock & Key could not have been more pleasant or professional. The room itself well well thought out, including the puzzles having a story and logical progression that I appreciated. I highly recommend Lock & Key and I plan to go back to try one of their other rooms.

Great experience! First time for our whole group and it was a blast! Very organized and the staff explained everything that we needed to do to get started. Challenging but not impossible. Definitely worth it!

Was my first time doing an escape room but you made me a huge fan, the vampire room was the perfect level of intrigue and challenging, even with just three people we made it out in an hour. This was a great experience for myself and my family! Place was new and clean. The puzzles were doable but challenging. We needed a few hints and almost had the mystery solved in time! We had a 9 year old and a 5 year old. They couldnt help us too much solving the puzzles but they were great at finding clues and helping us remember what pieces might go together. The owner was friendly and explained the directions well. I recommend this place as one of the best things I did in Buffalo!

OMG! This was the best experience. We had a large party reserve for lock and key room. It just happened to be the weekend of our big storm. The owner was very accommodating to us. He let us all start at the same times, which was nice because we were the first reservations of the day. None of us has ever done a lock and jey/ escape room before but we are all looking forward to doing it again! This was a game for all ages. Our party a group consisted from 7 yrs to 60yrs. It was a blast!

We had a lot of fun despite having to spend the night locked in the Pirate’s Cove. Seriously, the rooms were a bit beyond our ability as novice players, so we didn’t escape. But we enjoyed the chsllenge and we will try the other rooms offered at this location. We highly recommend it as a challenging, thought provoking evening of fun. The hostess was superb. She provided clear cut directions, was attentive when asked for hints and walked us through the rest of the game after our time was up. Overall this was a delightful experience.

We had a great time! The entire experience from the sign up to the reminder e-mail and the instructions at the start were concise and easy to follow. Note that they now have two locations, but they are across the street from each other. Five stars, highly recommended. Weve done two of their rooms; one success and one almost.

Great fun for a small group of friends. Was our first time. Puzzles were not too hard or easy. As a first-time participant, we would have benefitted from a better description of the tasks which we needed to perform to escape.

Challenging and fun Pirate puzzle room, small in size, we felt 6 players is max due to space. Lighting is murky, could use more than one flashlight to see the tiny combination locks. Have been to other escape rooms in town, this facility was very good. Entrance is down the alley between buildings.

A friend of mine and myself took another friend there for her birthday. We had a blast! Didnt make it out in 60 but we were very close. Im sure if we had a fourth person with us we definitely would have made it. Definitely will go again. Lots of fun.

We had a blast in the House of Secrets room. It was our first time (4 of us), so we didnt know exactly what we were doing. Staff fed us some clues under the door to help out which made it more fun. Next time well know a little bit more. Definitely recommend!

Our host was Jared. He was very professional, helpful and polite. The overall experience was amazing. So much fun, even though we didnt make it out of the room. I would definitely recommend this place. And I look forward to my next attempt!

We did this as a work holiday outing there were 17 of us total in two rooms. We had a great time!

It was the first time for a few people on our team. Jared was a great host and everyone enjoyed themselves. The puzzles were thought provoking and not too hard to complete.

We took 4 bright 14 year old boys to the room for a birthday party. We had such a BLAST! Three of the boys were new to rooms. We other three were not...we did escape. The boys cant quit talking about it, and had the time of their life. Best birthday ever!! House of Secrets=Fun!

The theme was good but this is the second escape room Ive been to and the clues were not organized or didnt follow any order there was extra clues in there that you didnt even use... definitely very hard due to those conditions. Wouldnt recommend it unless you have done several rooms and really want a challenge.

We had the pleasure of playing The Vampires Lair. The puzzle was wonderfully themed, fun, and challenging. Were fairly new to escape rooms, and well definitely be visiting again.

Great venue. Did the Quest for the Throne themed room. Loved it. I do think the final puzzle was a bit too hard to determine without a clue, but thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Would go again to do another room. Very friendly game master :-)

My son, his 6 friends and my husband experienced the virus outbreak escape room. None of my sons friends had done an escape room before. When it was over, everyone of them expressed how much fun they had and it was one of the best times ever, even though they didnt get out within the 1 hour time limit. I highly recommend this place!!

We had a great time. The place was very clean and the room was beautifully done. A lot of thought and time went into it. We especially loved the girl that ran the room for us that night. Very friendly, funny, and helpful.

Loved it! My wife and I went with our 4 kids (1 boy and 3 girls ages 10 - 15) to the zombie escape experience and we all had a blast! It was great teamwork and a very unique experience. Although we were eaten by the zombies we would do it again in a heartbeat. The hour flew by and it was great memories for all.

We escaped the House of Secrets!!! It was so fun and definitely required teamwork. We had a group of nine and everyone had some part in escaping. I would strongly recommend and hope to be back again soon.

Wonderful time. One of our party had car trouble and unfortunately arrived late to a 9 pm room, but our hostess was lenient and let us wait for him since we were the last for the day. Clean & tidy, with puzzles for waiting fingers. Very forward about the rules and not a lot of room to stray from the rules while still accomplishing the goal. The King Arthur room contained a variety of different types of puzzles instead of just one brand across the board. Definitely will be going to them again for another escape room experience!

I brought my team here for team building and we had a great time. Many of my team members thanked me for picking such a fun activity to do and really enjoyed the two rooms at Lock & Key. Its challenging so be prepared to collaborate and open your mind!

This was my first time in an escape room, and the 4 of us that were together had a great time. The puzzles were clever, and we enjoyed working through them.The reason I didnt give 5 stars was because when we got there 15 minutes before our scheduled time, there was nobody at the location. They have a second spot with more rooms across the street, but we were at the right spot. We had to walk across the street, find someone, and wait for them to get someone else to walk back across the street.

My family and I went to the Escape Room last night and it was an AMAZING experience. Staff was awesome. It was quite a challenge but with teamwork we finished with 11 minutes to spare. We will definitely be doing another theme!

This was the 3rd and final room that I have done with Lock and Key Escape Room. Every experience I have had here has been wonderful. It’s fun and challenging. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Would highly recommend them for any of their rooms.

This was my first time at an escape room with my group of four people and we had a ball. The room we tried was called, Escape the Throne or something like that...The story line was a bit confusing but the fun was all in the game itself and figuring out the puzzles with all the twist and turns and whatnot. The room difficulty level was hard and the host said only about 140 people out of 600 or so have escaped the room. Needless to say, we needed multiple hints from the host. We did not solve the puzzle however it was a great, interactive team building activity for friends, co-workers, family etc...The only (two) things I wish was that we received a hint upon entering the room instead of being told just to look around, it may have helped us save 15-20 mins just trying to figure out what to do first. And at the end, I wish there was an option, to maybe pay more $$ for extra time in the room or have the option in the beginning if there is room in the schedule.

Went with a group of 6 and had a great time. Game was challenging without being frustrating, staff was well trained and friendly. Would recommend to others.

Received a Groupon for Lock and Key as a gift. My adult children along with my husband and I had a great time and would definitely do it again. We were able to escape the house of secrets with 6 minutes to spare!

So much fun with 3 moms and 5 girls ages 11-13. Being that this was our first experience, there was no way we we would have solved the last clue, even with another 30 minutes. We would definitely go again.

This was a great experience, one of the harder ones Ive done, though we still made it out just under the wire, with less than a minute to go. Staff was fabulous and the room quality was very good.We look forward to checking out their other rooms soon!

The room was really well put together and was really fun to solve! We brought some people with us that had never done an escape room and they were able to easily catch on and understand the puzzles while still feeling like they were being challenged.

Absolutely fantastic place! Lots of fun and isnt too bad per person through groupon! The escape rooms are always really good, not too hard to be impossible but not too easy!

The hostess was really nice. The place was a little tricky to find as the entrance is on the side of the building. We took a group of 12 year olds for the Zombie room. The kids had fun but came nowhere near escaping. Its tricky! Fun theme, tough room!
