The bridge is a big help going to and from Boston and other areas. Unfortunately since Governor Baker has been in office the bridges have tolls both ways!! The bridge is falling apart, well it needs to be kept up and wheres the taxpayers money going? THERES CAMERAS ON ALL STREETS, I WAS HIT FROM BEHIND, THEY TOOK OFF AND I COULDNT GET ANYONE POLICE, TOWN HALL TO LOOK AT A CAMERA SO WHY ARE WE PAYING FOR THEM?? The bridge is a big help, they should fix it!
Thank you for the quick assist!
Terrible. We understand repairs and upkeep are definite throughout its span but there must be a better way to do it or not so much at once for long periods of times (2 years!?) to add more to the increasingly growing traffic. Were at one lane going towards Chelsea. Awesome. Getting worse each year. Used to be when you were on the road at 5am you might see a few cars now thats climbed back to 2 or 3 am. 6am is comparable to what rush hour 830/9 am traffic used to be. Too much digging all at once everywhere in ma from RI boarder to the NH line. Dig a hole, disrupt traffic. Later fill it in with rocks(disrupt traffic) and leave it till the fall the dig it out(disrupt traffic) and pave it with camel humps. NH built a whole overpass and ramp during a summer season.
Though the traffic sucks this is actually one of my favorite bridges in the Boston area because of the beautiful harbor views. Especially in the early morning or evening. But not during rush hour traffic!
Very good design and well cared for. Very good shortcut to Boston or Revere. Would have given 5 stars if not for the traffic.
It was fantastic as usual. Mostly open.
So busy there, in the morning is even worse! But the view is beautiful...
I jumped of this bridge on 2009 from upper deck it changed my life for the good
The bridge is beautiful. All you Neanderthals sayingsigns saying ezpass only no cash most cities have toll bridges. They have these passes to let traffic keep flowing. Believe me you dont want to get stuck at a toll booth. So you dont have a pass??big deal? Theyll send you a invoice/ ticket for the toll. Just pay it. Whats the difference if you pay now or later? Beautiful city beautiful bridge. I live in Oregon and was there last week. Great time. I bought the pass when I rented a car. So easy. Go Sox
Looks like you cant jump off anymore
Ok, I didnt do my homework. We drove across the bridge and then I read that we have to pay by invoice? How old school plus I wont be home in time to receive it. Of course we crossed at 2:00, thats when customer service shuts down for the day.. Wish us luck, sounds like a great (for MA) revenue enhancement product, for visitors, it sucks, to put it eloquently.
Amazing bridge to see at a distance.
I dont understand what people are saying about having to have an EZ-Pass. As far as MassDOT says, you have to either have EZ-Pass, or you will receive a payment invoice in the mail. They switched to a no cash option due to traffic and congestion on the bridge. There is also no need to go to any building to pay it off. Anyways, its a good bridge that gives you an excellent view of the Mystic River and Boston. I love this bridge just as much as I love visiting Boston. And yes, I am from Massachusetts.
Used google maps for directions to the Tobin bridge it was easy and directions were good
Great view of Chelsea
A Floridian tourist going south from Maine to see Boston. On this US1 S, the sign read Toll Bridge ahead, only Epass no Cash accepted. Quickly exit on last exit only to get lost, time and frustration! Great Bostonian minds; send some local DOT personnel to nearby universities for some refresher courses in traffic managements and civic rudimentary. Found another bridge to cross over but still pissed. Do not need a MIT degree to solve this FUBAR arrangement.
All I can say, its a little Shakey.
Technically, this is the (Maurice) Tobin Bridge, named after the former Boston mayor (1937-1944) and Mass. governor (1944-46), who also served as Harry Trumans Secretary of Labor (1948-1953). The bridge was built in 1948-49 and opened in 1950. It is 2 1/4 miles long, with three lanes north-bound on the lower level and three lanes south-bound on the upper level. It spans the Mystic and Little Mystic Rivers.
Liked the see view on the upper level of the Tobin Bridge. I also take the 426 bus from Haymarket on weekdays to go through this bridge and the 111 bus to Haymarket at all times.
Ive been across the Tobin Bridge going into Boston many times. Its and old and great and beautiful bridge
This three lane bridge is a beauty. However, my experiance driving over it just was not good. Its too high above the water and the weather was bad. I had food poisoning and that did not help. The service was awful and the messed up my order. In the end of the day it got me over the water though, so i guess its a decent bridge.
10/10 would recommend. This bridge is amazing and fulfills all my needs.
Always is traffic,sometime lane s closed,Nice view,
Every morning on it. Best time before 6am
Exquisite architecture all across. BEAUTIFUL!
Ive always hated driving over this bridge. I havent been on it since the 1970s, but back then the road surface was of the metal grate variety and the car always felt a little unstable. I do remember as a pre-preteen that a bunch of us cousins were heading back to Quincy in 4 or 5 cars and I was in Uncle Joes Oldsmobile; we all egged him on to hit 100. Im not sure if he did or not, LOL, but it sure seemed fast!
Tolls and tragic on rush hour. Pretty though
