This absolutely beautiful place is very close to my heart. The walks around, the cool breeze, the calm and the scenes make up for an amazing and fun day outing. Perfect for couples and families to spend quality time here. There is a playground for kids, and picnic tables too. I even found people fishing at this place. A must visit!!
Beautiful place this! Castle island is flocked by the locals during summer. My trip was nothing different. Sullivan’s was fully packed with people waiting on their to-go orders. The area has ample signage indicating the need for people to stay socially distanced and wear masks. The park was also well maintained. It’s a beautiful place to walk your dog too.
I have only seen Castle Island from a plane.Today, a beautiful fall day, a friend took me here today for my first visit.Everything was top notch the walkways, beaches, fort and the area Sullivans is in- all immaculate.Public restroom avail and pet friendly.
This is one of the go to place in Boston area. Located in Boston harbor, allows atlantic water access. Very popular for day usage. There is historic fort which adds value to the trip. Close to two miles of road before get to the island is next to the water body gets the extra excitement. Biking, running, walking along that part is very popular. If you are nature lover than catching sunrise would the best thing to do.
Some areas were really crowded. People were on top of each other while walking... not great for covid.. however, I really liked the walking path that circles the body of water. I have seen people paddle boarding, swimming, sunbathing, walking with their dogs. I am not sure about swimming because the water didnt look too nice. Ample free parking. I recommend checking this place. Ps. There is ice cream shop near the beach.
Great recreational place. There are a lot of tables and benches. You are allowed to bring and use your grill. There is a big public free parking, restroom, a big playground. There is an old fort on the island, you can visit it during the summer time with a guide. The island is surrounded by ocean, it is a quiet and silent bay. The sightseeing is beautiful.
Among the many beautiful destinations New England has to offer, a walk around castle island has to be on your list. Check out tide times and decide when to take a walk. Sunrises are beautiful.A trip to castle island is a must if you are visiting.
It was a nice park even on a rainy day. Must be more fun when its not a pandemic
First time at castle island and the aesthetic of the land is beautiful. History spread throughout the property. Free access for anyone. Family friendly or nice date
Seems like a good mix of locals and visitors. Very low key ... usually not too busy. Sullivans is good for a quick bite - lobster rolls are awesome!!
Very cool. Nice park to walk along the water and Fort Independence is quite impressive. I only wish we could explore more. Im not sure if it is closed normally or because of circumstances.
Awesome place !80% had masks on 20 didnt great place to walk and unwind
A huge public area for a great afternoon walk in the fall. It’s right on the water and has great views.
This is a very busy spot. It is Aug 2020 and even with Covid stuff its busy. Some wear masks, some dont. Easy, flat loop about a mile long. Areas to picnic. Popular sandy beaches- multiple to pick from.
The park was pretty and well used by Bostonians. I didnt give it five stars because it could have been cleaner and it would have been nice to have interpretive signs related to the fort. Also, it would have been nice to explore the fort, but it was locked up as tight as a drum. Park is a great place for families and they were using it profusely. Water, sand, and grass was plentiful. Watch out for broken glass on the beach, though.
Beautiful place, parking can be a bit hard on busy days but eventually you find something. Great place to spend the day and Sullivans food is awesome :)
Offers a nice walk around the fort with water views and well kept park area. Is pet friendly and a great spot for families to stop that is free.
The “beach” itself was small and had tons on rocks both in the sand and water. Bring water shoes. We were turned off. There were also tons of parties. They seemed to be having fun. It was a diverse crowd which was nice. Nearby food that looked good but the lines were long. Revere Beach is 20 mins away and was way way better.
This place is beautiful, especially on an early morning stroll. Bathrooms are available and social distancing enforced. And- I mean- the views are stunning.
Very nice place to hang out and social distance. Plenty of space to spread out. Nice views on the harbor/airport. The only downside is that there are no bike racks to park your bikes. There are signs everywhere for no bikes, but nowhere to park your bike.
Amazing place...lovely views of flights landing and taking off...plenty of parking...lots of place to sit, picnic tables as well...can get your bbq to grill as well. Can get pretty windy at some places ...beach as well
It has a playground, beach, picnic area, walkboard, great for families. Fort is currently clised due to COVID
Great views!Great ‘getaway’ from normal daily stress.Great for ‘people watching’, checking planes coming and going from airport across the bay.You must get something at Sullivan’s; great prices and selection of food.Beach if you want.
The weather was great. There was a lot of people but you could still social distance and find a spot. Great for walking.
Beautiful park with views of Boston skyline and airplanes coming in to land at Boston-Logan Airport. Incredible sunsets and planes flying low overhead
If you havent been here yet..hurry up and go. The best hotdogs and whole clams anywhere. they close at the end of november go go go! Oh yes its also the most beautiful place in South Boston!
A very authentic Southie experience Appropriate length for a quick tour or slow stroll. Food, bathrooms, bins, and benches are abundant.
Today I went to Castle Island in morning. Its big and clean beach. I reached there by 10 AM and was there for 2 hours. It was not very crowded. Plenty of parking available road side. Water is not cold. People are maintaining possible social distance. I did not look for toilet but heard it is open in independence plaza.
Positively awesome!!!! Perfect day! The grounds were impeccably pristine. We ended at Sullivans with hot days.
Me and my dad walk around Castle Island all the time turn on 51 hes 76 weve been doing it since I was a little kid. Nice family atmosphere you can barbecue there have a good time throwing a frisbee around you can go swimming there they have a little park for the kids with showers outside and you can buy food their hotdogs fish sandwiches french fries ice cream little bit everything nice place to bring the family. Plus the kids enjoy watching the planes come in because its right across the way from Logan Airport Castle Island is in Revolutionary War castle that protected the Harbor back in the 17 hundreds
A beautiful place to take a nice walk. Needs attention when it comes to the restrooms. People should be more concerned about taking care of the public places that we can still enjoy.
Awesome place to visit with Family and Friends in summer. You can spend the whole day, best spot for Picnic. It has food court, Children play area, walking area, you can do swimming, sunbath, fishing etc etc. There is ample of parking space but always fills up fast due to people coming in. Its a lovely place and city view from this place is beautiful. I loved it and you will love it toooooooooo.Must visit once to see this ISLAND.
A must place to visit during sunny day.You can spot the flights taking off and landing on Logan airport. The boats sailing in blue sea are so beautiful that you can spend your evening staring at them. Its also a good place for cycling and jogging. If you have an evening to spend, you wont be disappointed coming here.
It was very relaxing day and there was a nice breeze considering it was a very hot day. We enjoyed watching all the different activities going on along with swimming and fishing. It was a very fulfilling day. Great place to have a family outing.
I loved Sullivans but way to much for a couple dogs. They are priced out of there selves. So much for tradition. Good bye Sullivans
Beautiful views of Boston on one side and Boston Harbor Islands on the other. Big playground area for kids. Picnic tables and benches are spread out. The airplanes coming to Logan can be loud when directly overhead. Home to Fort Independence which is a must see if you are a Fall Out 4 fan. Also a great location for anyone playing Pokemon Go.
One of my favorite places in Boston so much history here great place to walk also has beaches and food u can bring family or a pet or go on a date and walk great place
Great place for a morning walk (but gets quite busy around 7am in the summer).
Over the past 3 decades, the water has become cleaner. Most people are nice and respectful, theres still too much trash on the board walk and walking pavement even though there are plenty of trash cans. Bring a picnic or get burgers and clams at Sullivans, right there!
My family loves it here! Sullivans offers a decent lunch for a fair price, the playground was a hit with my youngest. The fort is really cool, offering free tours (schedule pending), and the view of the harbor and boats is beautiful. The plans taking off and landing at the airport makes it an even cooler spot! Plenty of space to walk, run, ride a bike etc. Decent beach spot, shade and sunny spots. Grilling and picnic tables....great place to spend the day. Only complaint is parking, but worth the wait to find a spot.
Wonderful place. My grandparents and parents used to bring us here when we were kids. Was nice to visit and go back agsin!
It was bustling with people. Some following arrows others were not. Nobody seemed to care and that was cool. Express lane was moving so that is where it is at.
My first visit to Castle Island was on a cloudy wet afternoon. While the weather was typically poor, as you might expect on a January day, I could still see this was a gem of a location. I plan to come back in the spring. There are beautiful walking path, some nice beach areas, and a lovely view of Boston Harbor. theres also a good prospect of Logan airport, you can watch the planes take off and land. There is a small childrens playground, bathrooms that are open in the summer season, and a snack bar as well. An ideal place to spend a beautiful day. Even in the midst of drizzle and mist I greatly enjoyed walking along the paths and appreciating the sea breeze. The Boston Korean War Memorial is also located here. Its a wonderful little Monument right on the shores of Boston Harbor. To get there you take a short walk from the parking area around the outskirts of Fort Independence, to the east side right along the waters edge.
Good food for good price. Great walking area. Playground for kids. Beach area. Historical statues and plaques. Ocean views. Fishing area. Can watch boats and airplanes come and go as to Boston harbor and Logan airport is right across the way. Nice ocean breeze and shaded areas to picnic at tables with family and friends.
A beautiful place to take friends and family for a picnic, a walk, biking along or swimming. They have play area for the kids, full function rest room.
Beautiful place to walk around the water/ Pleasure Bay and see the cool boats cruise by, and planes soar through the sky!
Nice scenery. Playground for kids. BBQ spots. Small beach. Nice place to visit.
Nice place to walk aeoind. With the sea breeze even an hot day will be pleasant.
Historic landmark. Popular for locals and visitors alike. EAP served there while in the army before leaving for Maryland.
This is the waterfront and beach youre searching for around Boston. Just far enough out to be more beautiful than industrial. Bring your kite, your dog, and your family.
Theres nothing to knock about this place, other than it gets extremely crowded because it is so amazing. Free parking in the lot, lots of street parking leading up to it, fresh food and ice cream at Sullivans, bathroom facilities, beaches, playground, scenic views, a fishing pier, low flying airplanes to delight the kids, and a huge walking/riding trail circling Pleasure Bay, and a fort to tour on the weekends. Oh, and lots of hermit crabs for the kids to hunt down at the beaches to keep them occupied!
Great for an afternoon bike ride . Connects to m beach .Also a good date spot . Highly recommend.
Castle Island is a Boston gem.The Island is a great place to walk with many venues to choose. There are many places to fish from. The parks department has done a remarkable job updating and adding to the Island.Sullivans stand has great food and ice cream.Youcan also watch the planes landing going into Logan Airport.
Good place. The view is amazing. You can see the boats coming and going..
One of my favorite summer quick and easy to get places along the beach in South Boston. Great place for family and friends while enjoying great food or just an ice cream @sullivans you can go for a walk along castle island..nice breeze great people is always so pleasant !
Great place to walk, the scenery is worth the trip and Sullivans is icing on the cake!
Great public space to spend an afternoon walking around. Only downside is that the fort doesnt seem to be readily accessible at all times. Hours seem odd as it is privately run; not run by NPS. Still a great place to see.Highly recommend stopping in at Sullivans for some food. One of the best lobster rolls Ive had. The clam strips are good too.
Great food! Fast and friendly service! Highly reccomended!
Lovely place to watch the planes land. Great place to jogging and walking or just to sit and appreciate the landscape and the ocean.
Lovely place yo hang out and throw some good on the grill with family and friends. Beautiful views of the beach and the water.
Nice place by ocean side view good views. Good for family time and activities.
Nice place to chill and hangout. Sullivan’s is really good. Cold and nice breeze.
Get to Sullivans, tell Chris hello and youll get an energetic exchange that will supercharge your day. Its super crowded so plan your social spacing accordingly. Beware of the gangster seagulls... LOL! Those birds are coming for your food.
Excellent place for spend a warm day with family. Picnic area everywhere, lots of trees for hang a hammock or a shadow rest, beach, playground, biking and walking paths, beautiful views.
Great place to go for a walk and just hangout. It does get a little chaotic on nice weekends, but once you find a parking spot you can always find a nice place to just sit and enjoy, or go for a walk.
I always forget how much I love this place. Good for walking around. Also good for bringing family or friends for a picnic or watching planes fly by.
So peaceful and beautiful. Great place for the family, yourself, or a nice date.
I have never been here before, I loved the atmosphere, it was a beautiful day nice to hang in the grass and eat ice cream.
I love walking around the Castle & the Sugar Bowl then grabbing a burger & a hot dog at Sullys!
Beautiful views out among the harbor islands. Easy to get to. Nice walks, cookout spots.
Lots of history, beautiful scenery and hot dogs. What more could you ask. Lovely place to visit. Great picnic area and beach
Beautiful. Great place to walk or run. Dont buy fish at the restaurant. Stick with chicken, hot dogs and ice cream / frozen yogurt.
Great place to boats, airplanes, and sunsets! There is free parking, plenty of picnic tables, a playground a lagoon, bathrooms and portable bathrooms, and an historic Fort Independence. Went with my girlfriend for the first time. I would definitely go back if looking for a peaceful place to walk around and get a good view of the harbor.
Really beautiful place to walk around and picnic, get some sun, relax. Public restrooms available! Be careful on the beaches, we ran into a lot of broken glass :(
Very nice and peaceful it has been a few years. Was nice breeze. Only thing I didnt like rodents but its expected because garbage that people dropped on ground which is deplorable the way people leave food to feed rodents.
Always a nice spot for sunbathing, jogging, riding bikes. Its great for families too, as theres a kids area with playground. They have snacks along the beach and closer to the castle.
Very beautiful. Wish we could have toured the fort.
A great place for a walk with an historic castle. Come early in the morning as it is quite peaceful.
What a wonderful place this could be for a Tourist destination if only some $ and planning were put into opening the Fort to visitors and its a great venue for concerts
Always a great place to come out to. Beautiful, peaceful perfect and to add Sullivans food delicious
Great view of Boston. There are plenty of picnic tables. We had a barbecue but brought our own grill. There is a coal disposalNegative: very dirty bathroom, smelly and unclean . No soap
Love castle island lot of heritage there and plenty to do cultural diversified open toilets but no vendors. Apparently Sullivans has monopoly shouldnt be changed necessary. Another point near playground maintenance house and plenty of greenery to allow public gardens
I am the ruler of Castle Island, I declare war on the Pensaloiana Island, for there threatened my might wealth. My castle stands strong and high, bow!
Live here.. love the castle island clean park great picture taking Sullys for clams and hotdogs.. its an all open free day long family place for inner city people get away to beach breezes and loud planes
Love going to castle island just to get away so much to see and most important to me is that no one Recognizes me very peaceful place recommend to everyone.
Family and pet oriented, and definitely a place for leisure, to have fun or just relax by the water!
Amazing place to spend an evening with the family..my son loves this place..we enjoy the views and walk around
Beautiful setting. Great playground. Delicious food from Sullivans safely and quickly served. Amazing harbor view. Saddly, the fort is only open on the weekend and our vusit was on a Thursday.
The beach area and picnic table area itself was phenomenal. There are a lot of picnic tables and a really nice play area for kids. The fort is cool, and the sea wall walk affords some glorious views of the city and sunsets. The bathrooms were dirty and not maintained, and also had no soap to wash hands.
This is one of BOSTON,S favorite places, WALKING, SWIMMING at Pleasure Bay, HOT DOGS and FRIES, and a Milkshake is the only way to go AT DANNY SULLIVANS The. best of all world,s
Took my sister to use her new telescope .. one of the best places in Boston to see the night sky
Great place for a short escape from the city.
I grew up in Southie and have always loved going to Castle Island.
I went back for my 5th visit! All the way from new Jersey...Every time I go on vacation to Rhode Island, I make a point of spending a day in Boston - partially because I love castle island... the view is spectacular, the parking and beach area is free, and I love how there are often planes either taking off or landing overhead. Theres so much to explore here, and its a great place for a barbecue. I love how the picnic tables have handicap accessible seating! Ive never used it, but im amazed to see it.
It was cool seeing it in the fallout 4 game but seeing it on google maps from Illinois is just as cool. if not less What Im a big Buthesda fan.
It was super fun! I walked across the bridge of the ocean saw about 10 planes take off ! I definitely recommend coming here with kids!
Went on a cloudy Tuesday morning. Getting here from the Mass Pike was easy. Plenty of free parking.great playground for the kids, lots of grassy areas for picnics and great views of the harbor and Boston. The beaches along the access road were beautiful and life guard protected.Had lunch at Sullivans. Food was great and prices were very reasonable. Dont worry if theres a line, it moves really quickly!Great day! Cant wait to go back!
We got engaged there and have always loved going here! Beautiful skies..water...fun activities...plenty of beaches and playgrounds. Dont forget food at Sullys!
Awesome place to take the family to learn some history about Boston. The tour was free and informative. The views atop of the fort were spectacular. Lots of areas to have picnics or for walking.
Got to love Castle Island. Sullivans is still very good and still less expensive than other places like it. Walk the Sugar bowl, sailing lessons, not this year though, swings for the kids. We love it.
