Wonderful place to visit. Very knowledgeable and friendly people. The best thing about this museum Its free to explore. Good little museum.
You just have to love a fire station museum. You can feel the bravery of the men and women who worked here saving lifes and putting out fires. Not open every day but a must see in Boston. And I bought the t-shirt. Thanks to the ex fire fighter volunteers who look after this place and are happy to talk about the exhibits.
I never knew this place existed until I went to my sons classmate birthday party. Its a pretty small and cozy place. The staffs seemed pretty nice. I definitely recommend it.
The men who work here are very nice. They are very knowledgeable of the history of the firehouse and fire engines and were happy to show us around. They have a sweet dalmation that the kids love! The only downfall to the place is that it is a bit cramped, but its just because there are apparatuses parked in there. One is an antique firetruck that the kids can sit on and pretend to drive.
Great little Museum we stopped into after visiting the Boston Childrens Museum. Lots of history in this beautiful building that has served the City well. Can become quite busy at times. They host Birthday Parties upstairs in the old Crew Quarters. The folks that were manning the Station were Very nice and will give a little history lesson if you ask them. They have a spot where you can donate to help keep the Museum free to the Public. They also sell Shirts, Hats, Patches and more. They also are selling Preston Strong Shirts to help support Lt. Glenn Preston who is battling Cancer he got while on the Job.If you are looking for something to do while visiting the City and Childrens Museum, please stop in as its just a short walk down Congress Street.Thank you for showing my Wife & Daughters a great time and for giving this Ex-Vermont Firefighter a great history lesson. May God Bless you all.
Really nice museum with 2 fire engines, one of which you can sit on, lots of old firemens helmets, the possibly unique to Boston, fire alarms, which can be viewed internally, and other artifacts pertaining to the Service. Staffed by retired firemen who are very happy to to answer questions.
The fire museum is an awesome place to visit. There are tons of displays inside and the guys that work there are very knowledgable and willing to help.
Great place to stop with kids! We enjoyed looking at the fire engines and meeting the dalmatian.
The firefighters who staff the museum are friendly and good natured, and it is free...
Free entry, they do take donations. Super small museum, took us only half an hour to look through.
A really fun museum. Its only open on Fridays and Saturdays. Admission is free but theres no air conditioning. It is small but has a lot of cool artifacts.
Came here for a childrens party and the tour of the museum was great!
Definitely to be marked on touristic maps. A jewel museum to visit and learn citys history of tragedies and heroes. Little ones receive a complimentary Firefighters hat and Museum staff is very helpful, providing information in a nutshell.
The Boston Fire Museum can see fire appliances of different ages, and can also reproduce the fire scene and simulate fire fighting......
Great place..small but lots of fire history
Small but lots of historic items and fun for little ones. Sparky the dog and getting to sit in old fire truck were highlights. Plus its free!
It is a nice little museum that can be very exciting for kids and parents alike. It is also a nice place for a birthday party. Parking can be tricky as for most places downtown. It is a nice place to visit that wont take you all day.
Small but historic fire museum, located in the old industrial town. Good to take your older kids to learn about Boston history. They have few old carriages in display.
Free museum with a small but pretty cool exhibition. The man who works here is awesome! I highly recommend stopping by and getting a t-shirt. The sell those for a noble cause: to support a fireman who battles cancer at the time.
Open on Saturdays for FREE! Great spot to take the little ones (especially if its raining!) They can climb up in an antique fire engine and ring the bell, and theres also a firehouse dalmatian to greet the kiddos and for the kiddos to pet :)
If you have young kids who love firefigthers, take them there !
Loved all the old trucks and equipment... Kids had a good time ...
Fantastic place to have kids party
Very knowledgable and friendly people who want to share information about the Boston Fire Museum, totally centered around kids. Held a birthday party here and everything was easy (from setting it up, through the party, and wrapping up the party). The upstairs room is very spacious and they are flexible the possibilities for your party.
It was very fun to go and look at all of the history
This place was awesome. Very knowledgeable docents & former firefighters were very friendly and welcoming
Very friendly staff, my 2 year old son loved it!
Great museum and its free
Fun and free way to spend an hour if you’re in the area. Volunteers are there to answer questions and share stories.
Most kids seemed to have a lot of fun. Others didnt seem as interested. It has a good space for a birthday party but there isnt much to do.
Great spot to learn some history
Small museum, but the volunteers are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Great place to check out if you’re in the area.
Wonderful place to visit. Packed full of history and interesting old gadgets. You dont need to be a firefighter to enjoy this place.
Ok
Awesome people up there they take their time and explain things to you
Super interesting, unique, special, only in Boston ! All the gentlemen in red shirts are volunteers who keep the museum, all are very helpful, knowledgeable, and willing to talk to you and answer all your questions about the history of Boston Fire Department, fire history, and the antique fire equipment in the museum as well as all the new fire trucks in use today. They are also patient with the many ill behaved children who have not been taught manners by their parents.
This is a lovely fire museum, rich with history and friendly faces.
Dont go out of your way to go here but if youre in the area its worth stopping by. Its small and unique to be in an active fire station.
Didnt even know that this existed! Went for a childs birthday party ( they rent out the upstairs ). Really cool historical pieces! Worth a check if you are walking through the area!
Small but fun place for the kids to see old fire engines.
Walked by on way out of the Childrens Museum and checked it out. Theres not a lot but my 5 year old loved it and its free and convenient so hard to beat.
Great for kids birthday parties! So much history in a tiny place and its free to get in!
A great group of gentleman dedicated to the history of the fire service in Boston. Definatley reccomend anyone who has interest in the fire service to stop in.
Very nice and friendly people
Its a small museum (about 40 ft by 20 ft, maybe), but they squeeze a lot into it. When we first walked in I wasnt expecting much, because it was so small and the biggest things in there are some old firetrucks and yes: things advanced from horses to motor vehicles, we all get it. But if you ask for one of the people running it to give you a tour and/or read all of the signs, theres a Lot to learn from their displays. I didnt know fire fighting grenades existed, or the origin of why hydrants are called plugs. Some of the stories about some of the different ways fire was fought, from prior to 1792 to the present and various problems with the older systems were really cool to learn about. Definitely go if you have time on a Saturday (which is the only day theyre open, at least according to the current website).
Free and surprisingly cool. any little kid will love this pace and they even let you get on the old trucks.
Pretty cool fire trucks that came with a personal tour. Good job guys!
The place is pretty tiny. nice for a visit if youre going to the childrens museum already
Great educational place
Its free to explore. There are nice volunteers on hand who enjoy explaining the exhibits. There was even a pumper built by Paul Revere!
A small museum but the volunteer firemen are the friendliest, well informed men. A real pleasure to talk to
Awesome thanks
