Drove up on a warm mid March afternoon but the park was still closed for the season. Great views of Boone and surrounding areas from the top, but parking can be scarce during busy times in nicer weather. Worth the short drive up when in the area for the views alone

Best overlook of the entire city of Boone, NC. Definitely worth the visit while you are in town. The park has a small green area where you can have a picnic and then has the gorgeous overlook.

Howards knob is beautiful even when the view is covered with immsnse fog somehow its beauty is still mesmerizing. I definitely recommend everyone find their way there for the view .

This place is stunning. A short drive up a steep part of the mountain, leads you to a small, but kind of private, viewing area. Howards Knob was amazing because not only can you look down on the entire city of Boone, but into the distance of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I hear its also a great place to view all the fireworks on the 4th of July

When in Boone, its a serene location to spend some down time. Not quite like a manicured state park, but keeping expectations in perspective, it offers a great view and is easy to access. Just know that the short trail to the outlook is not well marked and is just beyond the parking lot and picnic area.

Lots of shady picnic tables. Very short trail to great views of the ASU area. A little run down and pit-style toilets but still a nice spot to stop when in the area.

After climbing that dangerous slope, we arrived and the park was closed and without any warning all the way or on the website. We went to turn and we parked in the only space that there was and the one who claims to be the owner arrives in a very bad way that was closed and that we would leave there ... we will never visit that place again ... from florida come and treat us so badly !!! terrible experience !! I dont even give a star ...

Beautiful, great view when its not foggy but even then it was interesting

Beautiful overlook of the town of Boone and Appalachian State University. You can drive right in and there is hardly a walk at all to the primary look out. Great place to see the morning wake up Boone hear the university Bell tower and watch clouds pass beneath you. If you are looking to picnic or to see a view without a hike this is the place for you.

Nice outlook over Boone but it closes before sunset which takes off the fifth star. A good bit of parking. No trails. Great for a picnic!

The view is stunning. Its a great place to take a few pictures if you are in the area. They have a pavilion in case someone wanted to have a small party.

Fantastic views and a great place to get to see Boone. Surrounding roads are also very scenic and motorcycle-friendly as they have switch back turns that arent too sharp.

Great local park. I only wish it were open more and that people trimmed a little more around the look out areas but all in all it is well maintained and just a short drive from downtown Boone!

Beautiful view and many picnic tables (grills also available). No real trails to speak of that i could find. Very difficult to find - best advice is to take cherry road from king street, just past earth ware grocery, and keep climbing the roads while not turning into no outlets.

Beautiful view of Boone. Cant miss spot for visitors and locals alike. But be sure to check that the park is open before you go, as it is closed during Winter.

People visiting Boone often overlook this mountain which offers the BEST view of the area. Bring your camera and get a photosphere shot- the view is THAT good. The park is free, and also very difficult to locate with almost no signage; it is truly a hidden gem. The next time I visit this awesome sight I will be sure to write down the directions and update this review- but basically from King Street turn on to Cherry street and keep heading up hill. You will come across roads that change names but try to keep going up. There are only 1 or 2 places to make a wrong turn so backtracking is fairly easy and the roads are scenic anyways. The reward is priceless! Last time I was at the top of this mountain I saw rabbits and some harmless grass snakes, so be on the lookout for wildlife. Don’t worry about the wildlife though- at the very top you can park and take a 1 minute hike to get the outstanding view overlooking Boone. It is not something you want to miss and a mandatory stop on your trip to Boone.

Bring binoculars and you can observe nearly every part of Appstate campus.

This place was awesome! No hiking, but you cant beat the view.

Best views of Boone here. Great overlooks with very minimal hiking that makes for great photos or a picnic on the little meadow near the overlooks.

Drove to this place while I was visiting Boone. Went up the steep winding narrow roads only to get there to find the gate shut!!! Major disappointment.

Very nice views of Boone NC. If the gate is closed because of season, walk around and continue to the top.

Steep drive up to this small park, but it offers a full view of the town and school below. Closed at certain times during the winter.
