I read The Last American Man twice after dropping my friend’s son off at camp last summer. On return he showed us the small basket he had made, the leather pouch he had sewn himself, and the most amazing thing was watching him reacclimate to the noise of life. It had been so quiet and peaceful, the pace so incredibly different at Turtle Island, he had trouble initially listening to the noise and clamor of everyday life. He was more mature when he came home, more willing to take time, be patient, use his words when he got frustrated.

I spent three of the best days of my life there while I was taking a blacksmith course. I stayed in the little cabin just like they live in the old days no electronics of any type. To live as people were supposed to live. The food I ate while I was there was all grown on the land and out of the world it was delicious. The course I took was very interesting and challenging, the teacher was very knowledgeable and helpful and took the time to show you step by step how to do it so you could attain your goal. We made many different items to use when we got home. The land and the sites are so beautiful it is will worth the trip to see this place and help keep the old ways alive and going so we do not forgot were we came from. By coming here you may find that you love the old way better and give up the modern life.

Had a wonderful time. Ran into some friends from the Firefly gathering in Asheville that goes on the beginning of each summer. Was really nice to see everyone having such a good time. The weather was perfect today. All the craftsmen showing off their crafts were amazing.I would recommend checking into the camps they provide each year.
