Well maintained trail with some really beautiful areas and lots of greenery. The waterfall at the far end is a cool site, but it was dried up when I went in early September.Parking at this site might be tight, but there is another much larger lot closer to the waterfall to the southeast.Only complaint is that both times Ive been we saw someone walking their dog unleashed.
Beautiful and easy trail. Kids and family friendly with just about few hundred feet elevation gain. The sign says the trail is closed during working hours weekdays for some improvements late August 2020. Our Friday evening hike was very relaxed and enjoyable.
Historical and secnic. A back woods nature park in the heart of the city. Loved the hike through the woods and the sound of the babbling creek all along the hike.
Excellent nature walk, following a small creek, with a pathway kept clear and maintained even enough that Ive seen people with strollers on it for the first 1/4 mile or so. After that it begins to turn into gradually steeper inclines, providing a good variety of intensity the further you go. I usually am here for 30-60 minutes. In the evening you can sometimes see owls.
Lovely walk, easy to get to, and lots of small trails around the area.
This park consists of three moderate-levels trails, encompassing approximately 3.7 miles. Consisting of dirt and woodchip surfaces, these trails venture through a preserved suburban creek valley featuring dense forests and waterfalls. The park is a glimpse of the region’s past with evidence of the early coal mining industry along the trail and kiosks with information on the remaining artifacts. Additionally, the east end of the trail enters into Cougar Mountain Regional Park, where more trails await.
Its BEAUTIFUL, the trees all have green moss, ferns and flowing stream feet away from nice easy path. Can see salmon swimming at right times. At the end theres 3 flights ( maybe more was too tired to go all the way)
This is a beautiful park with extrordinary, groomed hiking trails. There is only one porta-poti at one parking area, so be ware. They could use improved signs on where you are going and how to get back out. Heaven forbid you need to leave in a hurry as one can go around in circles. The scenery is truly beautiful, but its mix with the regions coal mining history is fantastic.
Coal Creek Natural Area is very scenic. The trail is dirt and easy to walk/run. Parking is free but very limited. There is no toilet, trash cans, places to sit or phones. Theres no places to get a bite to eat. The walking is very good and a stream is running nearby. A good place to hike but bring your own supplies.
Very easy trail. Beautiful scenery. Everyone you run into is friendly. Well definitely be going back
This is a very easy and beautiful getaway so you can be among the tall trees and hear the creek. It is very green and mossy in some areas of the forest. There are a lot healthy and green ferns as well. It is hard to believe that it is so close to the Bellevue Newcastle area, but once youre there you forget about the city! Even though it can be crowded on weekends it is still beautiful, a peaceful place of refuge!
Natural beauty. Nice trails. Cool creek
Really beautiful way to escape the city. Miles and miles of trails. Plenty of parking at the Red Town Lot. Be careful crossing Lakemont if wanting to take the trail to see North Fork Falls. There really should be a crosswalk here. Organizers have done a nice job maintaining the trails and documenting the history of Coal Creek on information boards along the trail.
Great family hike area with lots of options for length, difficulty and resting. Many trails are along the creak and covered from direct Sun. This is a really fun place for the whole family.
Very calm and serene atmosphere. Did an easy trail of 2.7mi round trip. Lots of spots to stop in between, enjoy the nature, click some pictures and have fun.
Very great trail with parts that make it a difficult jog! Its amazing your so close to the main street but it feels so tranquil...
My favorite place to reconnect with myself and mother earth, peaceful and serene, and the flow of the creek is amazing for meditation
Wonderful area in Bellevue for a good length natural walk. The creeks and bridges with lots of forks make it interesting every time. The parking is very limited but one can park at forest drive entry (.3 miles more).
Green Green paths along with shallow creeks
Great trail to get away from the city life. There use to be a water fall but a recent mudslide changed that.Still a great path to take as far as you want into cougar mountain.
Beautiful area hiked here for years. The new bridges smell like creosote/tar, its in the wood the use to build walk ways, stairs and bridges. It prevents deterioration but its also harmful for the fish in the water and plants near the treated wood. The off gasing is has high levels of vocs which are bad to breath especially for children. You can still smell the tar smell on your clothes after your done hiking and in your car. Cougar mountain is a better place to hike and very close around 4 miles from coal creek.
Love this place relaxing hike
Nice little trail next to a creek.
Beautiful little area to talk a quite stretch of the legs and a few photos. Enchanting little place! The trails are well maintained as well as the stair area and gravel. Lovely little oasis in the city.
Great trail to walk/run around.
Bravely trek the untamed wilderness that is The East Side.Load up the Audi, zip up the Patagonia, don your favorite brewery trucker hat and Ray-Bans, lace up the Asolos. Coal Creek offers forested trails where you dont have to leave the sounds of traffic behind.Theres also an abandoned coal mine that youre totally not supposed to venture into. Waterfall is not much to look at during the summer.
Great for the hiking type of family who love the out doors with the family type deal. Not really a playground for the kids and the trails are kinda advanced ( its a climb ) make sure all is ready for a hike. Beautiful though.fun as well .
I love this area and heavily explore it from spring to fall. Parking isnt safe to leave your car for more than a few hours. I do advise to park it in a visible area. Make sure its empty.
Nice wooded trail across highway and on another mile or so.
Great trails on forested area, hilly in places.
Great flat hiking trail for all ages.
Great trail system with some challenging elevation changes and plenty of shade.
Worth checking out. You learn the coal creek name while there with old coal caves and artifacts. If you have disabilities you may find it rough to get to the creek as the trail is steep for approximately 100 yards but the rest of the trails along creek are easy walking, clean and enjoyable.
Beautiful place
A hidden gem to be sure. Well-marked trails through a beautiful woodland gorge. Good parking lots at several points along the way.
Bring appropriate boots!
Very peaceful place
This is a great trail system. Water almost the entire way. My dog loves it. Only complaint I have is that its not a loop.
Beautiful place for walk with all the family
Nice hike, beautiful lush surrounding with the trickle of the creek in the background. Some parts of trail got a bit soggy and good grippy footwear a plus.
Great access to the stream. It was fun to teach my child about safe and unsafe plants.
Easy trail, nothing very special, but very nice trail.
A little slice of nature hidden between suburban sprawls. Lovely, well maintained, lots of signs so you dont get lost.
Really beautiful!
This little gem is secretwd away between the Bellevue (Newcastle) area and Issaquah. The environment is verdant, serene, and the ideal location to accompany your fur-baby on a contemplative stroll or to just-plain clear your head. Nice.
Wonderful trails in Bellevue were a bit muddy
Nice trail. A little bit muddy on Memorial Day weekend.
2 of Bellevues Finest came to my rescue the other day!!! #BlueLivesMatter2
My first hike,it was tough, but enjoyable.
Nice neighborhood hiking trails for jogging and walking your dogs.
Great place to hike, but do not leave valuables in your car.
Beautiful area, loved it. Dont go to the falls when it hasnt rained in a week.
Nice trail to go with your dog. Can get a little muddy if it has rain. The water sound along the trail makes it very relaxing that you forget you are next to the city.
I wish I had more time to do the whole trail
Wonderful trail and reasonable parking lot
A cool walk beneath the trees along a creek. A beautiful city trail.
Well maintained.
Peaceful walkways but too many snails to avoid
This is the best trails around for a simple nature walk and for your furbabies to get their exercise.
I love this place becuase I can modify my route every time. The routes range from easy to moderate with some trails having stairs.
Great hiking trails!
Great place for a short easy walk. Its gets very muddy on rainy days
Neat off the beaten path trails, but it can gat a bit muddy.
Good gentle hiking. Can actually smell coal in spots.
Great place to rewind yourself in the middle of the city!
This a fun little hike hidden in the middle of Factoria. Lots of fun bridges to walk over and a waterfall
A solid way to get out into nature while you dont even have to get out of civilization to see it. Perfect for a day hike out with children or just a way to get outside.
Such a beautiful park. Its always nice to come here for a good hike with friends, & its not too far from home.
Convenient escape although cant really escape car noises. Trails are very well maintained and running streams are serene.
From the street it looks small but it really deep.
Well-maintained trail ideal for hiking and running. Also features a few information displays about the history of the area. Definitely a place to keep in mind for a great hike thats local, easy to get to, and doesnt take too much time.
I love that this well-maintained trail system is tucked away in Bellevue!! Very dog friendly, gorgeous nature, and friendly passers-through. I will be back again and again. :)
The trails in and of themselves are fine and their well connected to other trails in the area as far as the Coal Creek Falls it is not visible year-round and dries up. Very level walking trails with essentially no elevation changes. Its easy to take kids and dogs here and pleasant for an evening walk.
Pleasant, easy afternoon mini-hike.
This is a great hike, many trails, a lovely babbling creek, not much parking so get there early
A real gem of a space. I started at the north-west (downhill) side and followed the trail all the way to Cougar Mountain park. Its a clear, well-maintained trail, and I love the history thats captured there as well.
The trails are gorgeous and the. 3 mile trail I took was cane accessible.
Great hiking trail, kid( 6+)and dog friendly .
This place is pretty beautiful...it has a man made waterfall. I love it here because its a scenic hike that leads all the way to cougar mountain. Make lots of noise & bring people with you because there are bears & cougars here. Dont startle the bears please! Youre in their territory.
Little slice of serenity, in the City.I give 4 stars only because gentrification is encroaching, and it shows.
Great place for a small walk
Nice easy hike to do with children or infants. The parking area is small, and you should plan on getting there early if you want a spot. Also remember that the parking area has had problems with break-ins, so keep your valuables in the trunk. The hike itself is beautiful, and has several different path to walk down. You can take a one way trip and enter the cougar mountain area for a different hiking experience as well. The terrain is relatively flat and can get a little muddy if there have been heavy rains. Theres a lot of greenery, not too much in the way of flowers. A fair number of birds are in the area, but I have never seen any other animals.
Great place and relaxing
Perfect for young kids as well. A easy beautiful walk
Nice place to stop by, great earthy forest smells, nice sound of water flowing, decent short trail, very few peoples, and dog bags if ya need a place to walk your dog briefly.
An in town quiet hike in a wooded ravine. The stream masks any traffic noise, remnants of the coal operation provide historic interest, and the waterfalls are a pleasant surprise. If you cant get out of the city this is a great option. 5 miles if you take primrose loop option. Drawbacks are no restrooms and off leash dogs.
Breathtaking beyond imagination. This is one for your bucket list!
Great easy walk with a couple really cool waterfalls. Its a great place to bring dogs. Its parallel to the creek
Very beautiful! Careful not to step on a banana slug!
Lots of walks of various lengths and all very doable for those not ready for the mountains. Good place to road test new gear without having to go out to the cascades or some long hike.
Great place to get back to nature. Good trails, some nice inclines, and beautiful scenery. The creek is awesome, even found a few fish... Frogs, salamanders, all kinds of cool little things that interest the big kid in me. Otherwise just the views throughout the hike were awesome. The whole area is a temperate rainforest, which creates a very unique ecosystem. Lots of stinging nettle around though, so use caution.
Nice to have a nice hiking trails within 15mins drive
Great walking trail with alot of history.
