Beautiful place with great flowers and fall colors, the river was beautiful.Lots of goose poop prevents 5 stars.
Cool monument, larger than I expected. Nicely done!
Beautiful, spititual sculpture in the gardens. 1000 people led to freedom in the Battle Creek through the aid of the underground railroad in Battle Creek.
Almost robbed. A criminal of color accosted me. Lived all over Michigan. Worked in all cities. Twice I was preyed upon in Battle Creek.
This is a beautiful piece of art in a wonderful Park. Plenty of walking space so look around and enjoy
Such a nice area. Beautiful landscape, right on the river, flowers everywhere, and proper sculpture descriptions and names for the history people. Has lots of pokestops if you play Pokemon Go.
You got to see the sculpture up close it is so awesome you will love it
The Underground Railroad Sculpture in Battle Creek is located at 1 East Michigan Avenue in Battle Creek near the W. K. Kellogg Residence. The Underground Railroad was a secret network that funneled fugitives from slavery in the South to freedom in the North and to Canada, where slavery was outlawed. The sculpture features Harriet Tubman, the best known conductor on the Underground Railroad and Erastus Hussey who specialized in making sure that the fugitives from slavery got from Battle Creek to the next stop east on the route to Canada: Marshall, Michigan.Ed Dwight, the sculptor, served as a pilot in the Air Force, and the first African American to train in the astronaut program. He became a sculptor after completing his service. Detroit area residents are familiar with the impressive his works: The Gateway to Freedom Statue in Hart Plaza and the Tower of Freedom Statue in Windsor near Detroit River.
A beautiful reminder of the fight our ancestors had.
Very nice sculpture depicting very brave, courageous people performing extremely worthwhile actions for freedom for over a 1000 people
The statue itself is amazing. The setting provides some local history (in addition to that of the statue),being right next door to The Kellogg House. Provided with the statue is a history of the Underground Railroad. Even though it is quite close to the street, the setting feels private and thats nice since the subject of slavery and what the railroad did for so many families. Excellent photo opportunities.
Nice place to walk and talk with the people you love.
Beautiful sculpture. A great visual reminder in downtown Battle Creek of the history there.
Well kept. I feel safe walking in this area.
Does this give tribute to everyone involved in the URR or just the ones displayed on the monument?
