This is a really cool waterfront museum that showcases Baltimores unique maritime history. I recently attended a beautiful fall wedding ceremony and reception here, so Id highly recommend as a wedding venue. Spending an evening here was a really fun way to experience Baltimore!Pro Tips:- Come around sunset to enjoy a waterfront view of the old Domino Sugar factory and the famou sUnder Armour headquarters
This museum is a small waterfront treasure and definitely worth seeing if you have an hour. The entrance fee of $5 is very inexpensive, making it accessible to most, and street parking is abundant. They ask you to watch a 10 minute video in the lobby prior to viewing the exhibit, and the voices of Charles Dutton and Tim Reid, as Frederick Douglass and Isaac Myers respectively, do a fine job placing the museum in its historical context.
Had our wedding here, catered by Ampersea. Every last detail was perfect from both venue and caterer.
Attended a wedding reception here, really enjoyed the set up and neighborhood.
What an amazing location in the Inner Harbor, history combined with good food, and a beautiful event space. Go see the museum and have dinner at Ampersea! You will not be disappointed. Parking is a flat rate, currently $10, right next door.
Such a sceneic place, but it would be good by the evening or morning tym,as afternoon s are little hot
Beautiful piece of Native African History!
Great place to host a wedding or any party. Right by the ocean. Great food also. In fact, the best food i have tasted at a wedding...well, except MY wedding. Lol
They did a walking tour of the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad it was attended by almost 200 to 300 people the volunteer did an awesome job dealing with the crowd and facilitating the walk
Meeting spaces in galleries with great harbor views. Great location.
Beautiful place for event or brunch at the restaurant on the first floor over looking the water.
Nice space and museum. Right on the water. A must see.
Learned many things about his life working in Baltimore on the docks as a slave.
Took pictures here of my daughters graduation. Beautiful
Great location to host any event. I have been here for a silent auction, birthday brunch, and just to view the art. Its by the water which adds to this beautiful location. Parking can be difficult, but there are a few lots walking distance.
Awesome place with an incredible story to tell. A must see!
Nice place for an event. The food was great.
Great venue for weddings and receptions!
Gaining knowledge about Frederick Douglass is in itself worthy of 5 stars. They have provided me with a lot of info that I didnt know
Great time and food always
Its great I actually clean that area
This museum tells the story of Frederick Douglass life from birth to working on the Docks as a ships caulker to escaping and marrying Anna Murray. Frederick Douglass worked for the First African American owned Dock Company in the U. S. Of Byers was one of the founders. This museum is kid friendly with interactive exhibits. Call to make sure that this place is open to the public. This space is rented out for private events. The outside of the building sign states Living Classroom. I called from my car to confirm the location before entering.
We had a wonderful time at the BLocal event .....
Super nice waterfront place with great view of the city.
What an amazing place! My kids and I had a great time learning about Frederick Douglass and all the amazing African Americans that make up Baltimore History.
Lovely afternoon filled with compelling biographies
Great historical museum located on the beautiful Baltimore waterfront.
Great experience. Everyone needs to learn the story of Frederick Douglass.
Nice area. They are still working on it so its a little confusing finding things.
Went here for a free tour that was listed in the City Paper and it was closed. Called about it on Monday and they said they didnt have anyone to cover on Sunday and they were switching management. She said I could come during the week. Working during the week. No invite to come back for free tour on weekend. Really disappointed.
Wonderful small museum with lots of maritime history.
Small museum but elegant and well presented. It would be good for kids whose attention does not lend itself to larger museums plus the restaurant is wonderful
Great place to have an event
Excellent museum. Very clean and spacious. Staff was very helpful.
Great building that holds the history of two amazing men
I was here but they had an event today so I couldnt go in will return tomorrow.
Family-friendly and great views of the harbor!
Beautiful view if the harbor. Great venue for a wedding or business event.
Great place .. really hidden from the public.Check it out on the second floor.
Have our holiday party here every year. Nice place with a good view!
A gorgeous view in a historically important location. Go!
Lengthy, informative panels describing Maryland laws on slavery segues into specific descriptions of Frederick Douglass and the Baltimore cohort that funded the shipyard. Fascinating early history on African American demographics and society in Baltimore.
Excellent place. Everything is great here
Great food. Great view from upper level of the Baltimore harbor.
