Such a wonderful, hidden gem! My son went to camp for the first time and has had a fabulous time. The counselors and staff are positive, upbeat, and my son comes home each night happy and proud of the new things he has learned.

It was started by Baltimore Orioles Hall of Famer Eddie Murray in honor of his mother Carrie Murray. It has birds, snakes, and insect exhibits. It also has a lounge/ library area to read about nature and science. The books are somewhat dated. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable.

While the entrance road seems easy to miss, the nature center is worth finding. The rustic building is filled with friendly staff, ready and able to share information about their animals. On a cold day you might be able to sit beside a fire in the fireplace!

The building is pretty small but they have some pretty cool animals (mostly reptiles and amphibians, plus few birds). I especially liked the large lizards and the chameleon because of its colors. They keep it pretty warm so your more likely to see the snakes and other reptiles active (and its a great respite from the cold of winter). Plus, all the animals are rescue animals and the staff are friendly and happy to help you find the sneakier animals.

Best part of west Baltimore! Hawks, turtles, vultures, and owls oh my! This is a must see if you love nature and like to walk the trails but live in the city! This area will be the spot to be when Baltimore turns the city around!

Go to learn about nature and support a nature center that really tries. The building is outdated and crumbling, and the animal enclosures are outdated, and sometimes inadequate. But, it is clear the staff really care and do their best. With a new facility and better funding this place could shine.
