They never fail me on my high expectations throughout the day. A loyal visitor here forever! Thumbs up!
What a great place. Friendly staff, beautiful painting, sculptures, masks, furniture from the 1700-1800s. They even have an Asian and an African section. Parking is decent, not outstanding but they have a few spots close by. 3 levels and it’s all FREE! Worth a visit for some at some point in your life. Take a date fellas, surprisingly good date for your lady friend. She will be impressed. I’ve posted 460+ photos to my review as well for anyone curious of what they have to offer.
The museum is beautiful!! I love that its free and the artwork is beautiful. There are many great works from Monet to michalangelo and the likes. Its fun to walk around and really soak in the art. Its a great place to take the family. There are tons of events happening as well each week.
Loved the size of this museum. Tons to see without it being so large you cannot see it all. Activities in place for children. Nice gift shop. Easy to find and park.
The collection is world class, with an amazing core bequeathed from Baltimores golden age. The restaurant, Gertrudes, is excellent. One can easily spend a day here, with great pleasure.
Lots of strange artwork. Not bad per se, just strange.
Fantastic museum with great permanent exhibits and rotating special exhibits. On my visit the John Waters special exhibit was presented. Great museum space laid out with large rooms and plenty of space to roam. A nice venue located near John Hopkins University. Museum personnel are very friendly and make sure to visit the bookstore.
The Museum is really great. Its free to enter and has great art, well displayed. The staff is friendly and helpful. There are a number of temporary exhibitions going on, most of then are free as well. Along with artworks the place also has a lot of uniquely designed furniture, so you can get interior decor ideas too! There is an area for kids where they can do art, all materials provided. You can watch short movies and documentaries too. The Museum shop has some vintage products, rare brands of skincare and food and much more! The sculptor garden just outside is nice too, you can sit there, bring your pet for a walk or just click pictures. The nearby restaurant-Gertrude’s is where you can fine dine. It is a beautifully decorated restaurant.
The Asian Art and African Art exhibits were closed, and they were working on the American Art collection when we visited. But the Cone Sisters collection and the European Art collection are worth a visit, since admission is FREE. We went to Gertrudes afterwards for a nice meal on the Sculpture Garden, a pretty setting as the sun went down. We will return to see the other collections as soon as we hear theyre open.
During the turn of COVID-19, so the Cone Collection is still closed, well be back though. The sculpture garden is beautiful and I especially liked the African Art collection.
Parking is confusing and troublesome. Street parking at meters is available, and they do have museum parking lots but the signs will direct you to past those and into their overflow in the Johns Hopkins university garage. Galleries were only partially open post-covid. I needed my jacket in some galleries but was lightheaded from the heat in others. Most art on display is 17th century and newer, so if that’s what you enjoy, you’ll love the exhibits. I did not. Security and associates were very kind and helpful. Overall it was not a bad experience, but I wish I hadn’t planned it into my trip considering the other things that could have take it’s place.
Great opening night. Culture, Diversity. Really well done. If you are in the DMV or live in vicinity, please support and go see.
They continue to sell great art and I expect soon the museum will be selling the Cone collection and a few Matisse.
Been going here for more than a decade- great collection and the sculpture garden is also lovely.
Great museum! Spent most of the day here. I really enjoyed looking at the large Matisse collection. The building itself has such an eclectic design. I highly recommend this museum if you’re in the area.
This is a beautiful museum. I was very surprised to find there was no admission fee when I arrived. There is a diverse collection of art including tapestry, sculpture, African art, Asian pieces, contemporary, European and American art. It was well laid out. There is a great restaurant and seating is available in the outdoor sculpture garden for dining. Pleasant way to spend the day.
Sculpture garden so overlooked. Interesting pieces in a beautiful setting
Great museum with lots of interesting exhibits! I especially enjoyed their collection of contemporary art. This is a well-maintained and considerably large museum, and admission is free. More interactiveness would have been a nice touch, but other than that, this is a good place to spend an hour or two. I would definitely recommend visiting if you’re looking for something to do in the area.
Bluebird Old Fashioned with Artisan Ice! Outside seating and limited menu.
Fine collection, I love rich people, free entry.
We attended a family art class. The kids loved it. Were going back next Sunday. We also visited the African and Asian exhibits. The staff was extremely friendly.
My visit here, weeks before the current pandemic shut the world down, has become more resonant for me. Like the gestures this museum has taken to try to balance the narrative voices from whom we hear, its a reminder that were all in this together. Its time for extending grace, empathy, and opportunity to each other: it makes humanity shine.
Despite the necessary Covid restrictions, I greatly enjoyd my time here. All if the staff were very kind, helpful and detrmined to make sure everyone had a smooth visit.
Love this museum. We hadnt been in a few months, and it looks like a different place in parts. Really cool new exhibits complimenting a strong base collection. I have always loved the Asian and African collections and the Cone collection galleries. Outdoor displays and gardens make for a lovely walk on a warm day. Photos are some of the newer exhibits since my last visit. Highly recommended. Free admission.
I had a birthday lunch at Gertrudes yesterday. We loved our waiter, Jeffrey, who was attentive and courteous. The food was delicious. The restaurant was busy but finally quieted. Loved the lights.
Really enjoyed the different kinds of art displayed here and the descriptions/background histories. Very educational place, highly recommend.
First, I love that there is free admission. Accessibility matters. Second, the pieces are beautiful. I got a couple of postcards from the gift shop that featured some of the artwork seen in the museum. The only critique I have, and its possible that I might have missed it, but I would have loved to see more artwork by Black artists. I would definitely visit again. Im inspired to check out all of the museums we have in Houston.
What an amazing and diverse gallery- a complete diamond in the rough. My family and I were totally surprised at seeing this overflowing and varied display of art from renowned international historical and contempory artists, and its free (apart from a few of the special exhibits)! Definitely check out BMA if you want to stop by a great museum outside the hustle of DC.
I always enjoy going here. Very welcoming and knowledgeable staff. The exhibits have changed since I last visit so nice to see new things
I love the BMA! The best part? Its free! Second-best part? There is always great art to see. I have been multiple times – had the opportunity to see multiple Andy Warhol pieces in person. There is an amazing amount of variety in the exhibits. If youre in Baltimore, definitely check it out!
Beautiful museum! So much to see and learn. New exhibits ever so often ️
Absolutely gorgeous and the staff is so nice. I do not reccomend bringing very little kids, but over a toddler should be fine!
I had visited the succession of nature exhibit in December but didn’t get good pictures and decided to go again. So happy I returned. They had new African American artist and it really was as if I visited a new museum. The museum was quiet both times I went. The staff is nice at the reception desk. You can tell they enjoy art. I was provided some recommendations of museums to visit when I travel to New York. Museums are free for the most part and I’m always advising me to go explore art!!!
Amazing Museum!!! I had an excellent experience at this place. The collections of exhibition was exquisite and relevant. Great staff and great location. I would highly recommend to everyone.
The food was.amazing and the service was equal. Please visit when u have time. You will not be sorry. The staff was amazing . Those of u that have not visited the Baltimore Museum you are truly missing something. I. Highly recommend it. Enjoy. Take your family. They win love you for it.
Beautiful museum with a lot to see. The locally donated work is great and the contemporary art is interesting. I enjoyed walking through and seeing the different exhibits.
It was closed the day I came, but the garden was nice
Incredible destination-worthy museum. Its free, except for special exhibitions, but the permanent gallery is worth revisits alone. Convenient parking for only $7, so we barely got wet in the rain, which are the best days for gorgeous museums. Whether you are into old masters, rennaissance, impressionists, modern, contemporary, ancient African & Asian, todays social justice artists, local legends, etc... Something for everyone!
Beautifully maintain. They have security in almost every area. If you are a lover of art or not you will enjoy the display. With it being so close to uni they are plenty of eating spots, walking paths around. We parked for free 3blocks away.
This museum is amazing. Please do yourself a favor and get a membership!
Great selection of Matisses paintings and with a very lovely sculpture garden.
Even though it is free year-round, I would highly recommend even IF there was an admission fee. The museum has incredible pieces and exhibitions. Theres PLENTY to see and a huge variety!
Gertrudes brunch is fantastic. Service was top notch. Food was delicious. I had the ahhmazing French toast, husband had Tillman island eggs Benedict... perfectly and delicately fried oysters with poached eggs. A stroll through the museum tops off a fabulous brunch
Fantastic collection and free to boot. Parking is hard to come by but its in a good area and safe to walk in. Theres a restaurant inside thats slightly expensive. Has art from every movement and time period
Loved all the special exhibits, especially the John Waters photography. Nice African Art and Asian Art Collections. Very lovely restaurant, as well, with very good food.
The new installation is epic. I loved the reminder of my childhood in the 70s and 80s
Fun activities for the kids and a great experience for the family!
Amazing exhibit in the lobby area that epitomizes why I love the BMA
I love this museum and its free except for special exhibits. The Generations: A history of black art exhibit is a must see. Will definitely come back for visits when Im back in Baltimore.
Exquisite displays of impressionist and modern art. Nice for a short visit, great for an all day art adventure. Special exhibits that are free for Baltimore City residents. A Charm City must see. Free general admission.
A charming small museum with a great collection. It was a pleasure to enjoy every piece. The Restaurant is very good.
Thus family and out of town guest. is a great place.
Truly one of the best parts of Charles Village and the best museum in Baltimore. Not only is this a FREE museum, but it’s a free museum with a huge, amazing collection. The BMA is a beautiful building aside from the art, and the sculpture garden next door is also beautiful. The BMA features one of the largest Matisse collections in the world, alongside a comprehensive collection featuring everything from ancient art to contemporary exhibits. In addition to the permanent collection, there are always really interesting (and often relevant political/social) special exhibits. Definitely need to stop by here if you’re in Baltimore!!
This is a really great museum. Not so large one feels lost, and the exhibitions are interesting and change pretty frequently Brunch is pretty good there too. Well worth the membership.
Awesome time at the BMA, the John Waters exhibits are outrageous.
I love the Baltimore Museum of Art because it has a diverse collection of beautiful contemporary art. Also, this museum has wonderful public programs and visiting art exhibitions.
I miss the BMA I love it here!
Good place to be for a day. Exhibits change often so each visit you see something new. Admission is free but parking isnt but its not expensive at all. Lovely exhibits and a nice quiet atmosphere.
Had brunch at Gertrudes with family on a Sunday. Great food and service. After brunch went over to check out Adorned exhibit and Africa art. Had a lovely time.
Great community museum. Main collection is free to visit. Special exhibits often require a fee. Restaurant is very good. Nice collection of artwork from past two millennia from across the globe
Asian Art African Art a lot of interesting pictures of different periods.
This place is beautiful. Dont take pictures God for it you get caught lol I had a woman follow me around the whole time telling me.i.cpuldnt photograph anything then I talked to the main Desk and was told it was fine just no flash which I hadnt used at all. There is a very kind gentleman there who I assume was a security officer and is very knowledgeable about the art. He even told me about the art challenge they do every year where you basically enter a piece in and theres two prizes to win. I felt in my element there and bought a few beautiful pieces for my home! Probably overpriced for what it was but hey it gave me put happiness to be there.
Home to many Matisse paintings and sculptures. I couldnt believe it was free thanks to a generous grant. Incredible building, well maintained and staffed. Lovely outdoor sculpture garden. Didnt have time to dine at Gertrudes, but hoping to next visit.
My only complaint is that much of the building is currently under renovation. It seems like they have multiple wings which are waiting for exhibits.I really enjoyed the variety. Its not often you get to see a Matisse down the hall from a modern piece of Nigerian art.Id say the best exhibit is the George A Lucas collection.
I really enjoyed my visit
FREE! Great collection kid friendly
The free family event was a real treat. Well organized, educational and enjoyed by all of our family that included a four year old, her parents and grandparents. Quite an accomplishment. The little one didnt want to leave!
Absolutely beautiful. So many amazing works of art. Efficient layout and very informative.
The Baltimore Museum of Art is a wonderful, historic asset in the Charles Village neighborhood of Baltimore City. It houses an internationally renowned collection of 19th century, modern, and contemporary art. It also runs different featured shows. They advertise this to the public. General admission is free, but admission to featured displays can have a separate admission fee.The last feature, which I believe ended a few days ago, was on African American abstract art. Interesting and thought provoking. The museum houses Gertrudes, an upscale restaurant. Theres a sculpture garden, where jazz concerts are held during the summer months amid the 33 sculptures adorning the grounds. Tickets are a little pricey, but its a very unique experience. They offer many outreach programs to Baltimore neighborhoods. My daughter often takes my granddaughter there to do art related activities with other children. If youve never been to the BMA, its worth a trip. If you have been, its probably already on your list of things to do.
Baltimore Museum of Art I went there on an outing with power of Recovery Center I had a nice time looking at all the Arts all the pictures of the old picture pictures from centuries ago Im at how ancestors
Great selection of African, Asian, American, European, and modern art. Many pieces by famous artists such as Èlisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun, Vincent Van Gogh, among others.
A lovelt collection. It kinda reminds me of the british musuems on a smaller. i love to come here on a rainy day when the crowds are low. sometimes you have the galleries to yourself.
Fantastic place and entry free museum!!! The collections are attractive and relevant. Their current special exhibition on Monsters and Myths was excellent. The staff is friendly and helpful. Great service and cozy atmosphere. I would highly recommend them.
The art displays are out of this world. It is also a another alternative for a museum in the city. I went to a presentation today about the arabbers from Baltimore City and their legacy. It was very informative as well as fantastic.
One of my favorite places to visit when I’m Baltimore. Excellent art. The majority is closed for renovations, but we enjoyed our time.
Had a blast with my kids here on Sunday for FREE, arts and crafts. We will definitely be going back, my husband also wants to join in on our next vist.
Home to many Matisse paintings and sculptures. I couldnt believe it was free thanks to a generous grant. Incredible building, well maintained and staffed. Lovely outdoor sculpture garden. Didnt have time to dine at Gertrudes, but hoping to next visit.
I attended a wedding for my husbands great niece. It was a nice evening. The food, lighting, candles and atmosphere lend a unique quality to a memorable night.
Its a nice museum but not family friendly. My 3 year old was quite well behaved and we were still stalked by the attendants for the majority of our visit. The contemporary wing is really the only place we felt welcome.
Cool way to spend the day!
Always a great museum to visit. The Cone Collection is a worrh of visit in itself. This year they are solely dedicated to accessioning female artists. A great need. I feel their American Art collection from the Civil War to WWII lacks a curatorial focus. Too much of a sampler.
Fun exhibits to check out and better yet its free admission! Cafe is great for brunch!
The museum and the collection being shown inside are beautiful but the customer service was terrible. Most of the staff in the museum were talking amongst themselves and not interested in assisting visitors. When I had to ask one of them a question, my excuse me sir was met with a yo. Which is not an acceptable response. Other staff members were talking extremely loud in the galleries with no consideration for the visitors. The museum is cool, but I wish the staff was more professional.
It’s a great gallery with a broad range of art both modern and classic,it’s always relatively quiet which enhances the experience.Theres also a cool sculpture garden
The BMA was very nice. The exhibits were very interesting. Its a nice place to visit to learn about all aspects of art and art history.
The Baltimore Museum of Art is stunning, progressive, and a hidden gem in a city yearning for more access to the arts.
I love art and have visited this museum. I am a piece of performance art called The Human Garbage Man. I am inspired by abstract surrealism and neogore aesthetics. I want to perform in your museum asap.
Very interesting place. Clean, nicely laid out. Parking is horrible
FREE art museum. Great place.
Beautiful and lovely! The most amazing and one of a kind books, jewelry, magnets, and assorted items for babies to adults.
An inspiring experience!
Amazing place!!! Excellent experience!!! I love the beautiful museum — the exquisite collections and relevant. Great staff and great location.
A huge wealth of interesting art. Great place to learn or just look at some cool stuff for a while.
Great exhibit on abstract Black artists. Amazing show worth seeing and only there for another week.
It is so pretty and Beautiful art pieces many different cultures. It was really beautiful and I enjoyed it with my family parking was decent and free year around.#Very historic.
Wonderful museum...original Rodin The Thinker. Great restaurant but make reservations!
I am not an art person at all but i wanted to visit this highly rated museum. It was very nice. Very spacious and clean. A good selection of various type of art from paintings to furniture to silver to sculptures. It was enjoyable and spent about 1.5 hours walking around. There is a sculpture garden next the the museum building.
Enjoyed the Art in the zmuseum. Loved the exhibits they had on display as well. Would have liked to seen a Basquiat, Keith Haring or Warhol peice in the Museum.
Love these little dudes... my third time visiting them
