Nice routes dont mind the grades some are sandbagged while others feel exaggerated I guess depending on your preference of climbing style. Use your gut on these to choose a route. A little run out and polished but not as bad as seismic aka maggies wall.
Gorgeous hike and creek entry point. There’s plenty of swimming spots deep and not deep on this trail. Keep in mind that the trail is partially blocked by trees. After the blockage, it gets really hairy. The trail is thin and climbing through lots of rocks and tree roots. It is not an easy walking hike for many! Bring hiking shoes. After a short 15 minute walk through the cliff side, we discovered beautiful views and place for us to hang out. Loved it!
As a first time climber i would highly recommend you get yourself a climbers guide from rei or any other climbing stores here in Austin, they are super helpful in navigating the many routes on the trail and on the walls, i would recommend this as a good starting point for climbers as well as a good place to climb for the more adept
Trail to get here is flat and nice. Was bone dry in Nov which is eexpected?
Very beautiful hiking trail. The hikers I passed during the hike were all so polite - everyone was so welcoming and the animals were all well behaved that were on the trail. This was my first time here - The water was so soothing. Especially with her at my side. I will definitely be visiting this hiking trail again.
Wonderful little gem with decent parking. Might bring your bug spray. The mosquitoes are pretty thick in the surrounding woods & hiking trails. Unless there is rain this week, there may not be any swimming next weekend. Its flow is dependent on the rain 100%. Weekend before last had a great flow, but lots of debris. Last weekend, the flow was gone and what was left was essentially a swimming hole.
Very nice place to hike and bike. I saw a lot of bikers there while I was there for a research project for a class called Planet Earth in my school, and I had a very enjoyable experience. I would definitely recommend visiting Gus Fruh if you need some fresh air or green for a refresher.Have a nice day!
Great for climbers. Not that good for a swim after the water dries up but very cool White River rocks that snake their way through the trees when its dry.
Nice local spot for climbers
This place is perfect for all ages. Its a nice shaded trail with access to the river. We walked a short trail and got to a really nice place for wading in the water with our 6 year old son. There were several families there having a great time. The water is not deep on the first part of the trail. If you keep going further down the windy and rocky trail, you get closer to more running water/falls and then to some big rocks where people enjoy sun bathing and the water is more still. For younger kids the first part of the trail is great. There are tons of small rocks to play with but that also means your feet hurt a ton if you dont bring good water shoes. To really enjoy the area, I definitely recommend bringing those as well as tubes for floating around. There are a few swings for adults and adventurous kids to throw themselves into the water. This place is in a residential area and there are no bathrooms close by so we didnt stay here for a long time.
For too many off-leash dogs running around on this trail where the dogs should be on leash. If youre allergic, recovering from injury or surgery, have a dog that is dog aggressive that you always have on leash, dont like stepping in dog poop, have cancer that is in your bones and therefore making them more fragile, etc, then unfortunately you will be often challenged on Barton Greenbelt trails and might not have the healing, healthy, nature experience you were looking for. Just please be forewarned if youre new to town.
Its an amazing walk that leads to a rocky area that are rare in Texas
Water was low but the trail was beautiful. Great for all ages and pets. Please put your dogs on a leash though!
Closed by the city due to spike in covid cases until further notice
Take this trail three times a week. Its perfect for someone who wants to go start trail running because there are plenty of rocks but the elevation changes arent too drastic. Also, takes you straight to Barton Springs.
I always forget how nice this place is with water. The trails around it are nice (in my opinion some of the nicest at the greenbelt) and have great tree coverage. We saw some baby raccoons while here just the other day!
One of the most beautiful tracking course I have ever seen since I came here Austin. It was amazing that I could feel the spirit of nature amongst busy city. I strongly recommend to visit here with family and friends. Itd better put on hiking boots instead of sneakers in order not to slip when you step on slippery rocks.
This was a great find and I had SO MUCH fun in there!!Ill be coming back for sure with my kids and dog.I recommend!!But please folks, pick up after you ;)
Exceptional climbing spot. The creek is dry here most of the year now unfortunately
So there was this girl I super had a crush on and we went see Ween at STUBBS one night and after she wanted to go for a swim and we hiked down there in the dark then when we got there we got naked and jumped in the water, thats what I told her I had a huge crush on her and I was thinking about giving her smooch but I didnt know if that was good idea. She swam around me a couple of times under water then she came up and we had us a love connection. It lasted almost a year. I will never forget how amazing she looked in the light and the water.
This place is great for kids. If you venture to the right you come across smaller spots to settle. Its mossier and rocks are more slippery in this area. Proceed with caution and wear water shoes. If you dont like being around families kids or loud music stay home!Dog owners please clean up after your pets. I dislike feces in my face!!
The place to be and be seen. Perfect watering hole. Tranquil in the morning and hopping on the weekends.
Sweet Escape - The Getaway I needed.Always looking for great spots to make art on behalf of my company, LenzMazter Studios. Came here for a photoshoot and the location was perfect. It was like a secret getaway, a photographer’s dream. Rock climbing, canoeing, bring your pets, do a trail run or bike. You name it, it’s here!It was so peaceful and many times it felt like I was all alone with Mother Nature to myself. Easy access to the trail and parking is adequate.Come on down, the water is nice!
Nice rock beach. Deep swimming hole. Rope swing
Pretty nice trail with good climbing walls and boulders would recommended
Nice small rock Climbing place by Barton Creek green belt
Gus is great for intermediate style climbers and offers great routes around its cave area. Easy access to the wall from the parking lot makes it a popular destination for climbers. The rock is less polished here than at Seismic
It was a fun adventure but posta and marks need to improve
Full of water today, May 19,2019, awesome Sunday weather tons of kids and dogs and families done happen all too often that youve got perfect clean flowing water in enough rain to make this place a humongous swimming area awesome, 1.2 mile hike from SPYGLASS entrance. Good times.
Too hot. Too many dogs off leash. What water was left was brackish and dirty. stay away.

Bring bug spray. More of a place to swim, rather than hike even though the trail down is a lengthy one. One way in and one way out unless you reach Barton Springs and uber back to your car. Alot of people on the trails with tubes and coolers, so gotta wait abit to pass. Also lots of families with small children, and friendly doggies off leashes.Overall, its a good time however. Good music, and a good workout if you dont mind the amount of people.
The water has all dried up. not scenic as of our visit 11/5/19. Skip this one and go to Barton springs and Zilker.
Wanted to do a quick morning hike and took out friends dog. It was quiet and beautiful, with accessible rock climbing spots if thats what youre looking for. Would 100% go again
Nice moderate level hike, cool swimming holes!
So much fun to visit and hike!
Rope swing, lots of dogs running around and perfect shade spots!! Love it
Nice place for a good hike. The water is beautiful and clear, too bad it was too cold when I went to go for a swim
Nice trail for trail running or biking!
Stick left at the first fork to go swimming. You can check water levels on the USGS site. they have a meter over by the rope swing.
So nice to hike. I ran into some rappelers, and got to zoom down the cliffs...
Swimming. Climbing. Sun. Fun.
Awesome place to hike, boulder, and climb. Super fun!
So peaceful
Great, refreshing swimming hole with a rope swing!
My all time favorite spot
Amazing place to swim and have fun! Rope swing from tree into creek. Creek is clear clean water to swim in. Only downside is rocky beach. There are also some cool nature trails around too
Beautiful place to enjoy a sunny day
It was an amazing hike but the creek that runs next to the trail dried up. We are from Houston and it was a little disappointing to discover this once we got there but it was still great.
This is normally a great spot for swimming. But there is no water now :(
Even when its packed, Ive never felt crowded. Fun rope swing and people watching. The trail down is about 1/4 mile and my 7 and 3 yr old are OK going down the steep decline. Wear water shoes or be ready to walk on rocks in the water. And please pick up your trash.
Water was high but refreshing!
It is always a favorite spot of mine. But I really wish people would respect the leash ordinance. My dogs keep getting bombarded by off-lead dogs. Come on APD...
Shadier part of the Greenbelt with deep pools that usually have water when the rest of the belt is dry.
Easy access, free parking.
Great section of the Barton Creek green belt for hiking, biking, climbing and sometimes swimming.
An amazing stop in the GreenBelt loop.
Close park for trail running, biking, but more so for me for rock climbing. Top rope/sport rock climbing is what youll do here. Its closer to Austin than Reimers, but its been climbed so much, that a lot of the routes are slick and often, no longer good holds. But, its classic climbing if you can get past the greasy starts.
So many options at this entrance to the greenbelt. Its deep inside the neighborhood so please be respectful of those who live here.
Stays cool all summer long due to the spring nearby.
Such a fun pool to swim in. Rope swing was awesome
Good climbing and hiking. Love it, totally recommend it.
️
The only thing more prevalent than dog poo is disappointment. Just go huff a truck stop bathroom and youll have experienced the creek. Stay away!
Fantastic dog spot
Great place to swim when there is water.
Great entrance to Greenbelt
A Austin Texas tradition
