THIS PLACE IS NOT A JOGGING VENUE.THIS PLACE IS NOT FOR DOG WALKING.That being said, Potter Marsh Wildlife Viewing Boardwalk is exactly that. It is a place to leisurely walk (NOT JOG), take in the air and check out the various species of birds, water fowl, American bald eagles, muskrats, salmon, and the occasional moose with calves, or black bear. This is a very healing place. A peaceful place. Signs are posted that say NO PETS ALLOWED, NO FOOD, NO SMOKING, NO DRONES ALLOWED etc. And definitely NO JOGGING. To the man who jogged the boardwalk on Saturday, September 5th, 2020: HELLO. FIND THE APPROPRIATE TRAIL. ALL OF US WILL THANK YOU.
Nice board walk that sits above the marsh. Totally wheelchair accessible, though a little bumpy. Depending on your timing, birds, salmon, and perhaps other wildlife can be seen. There are little info boards spanning the board walk as well as some little telescopes.
A moose! It was right there, below us as we strolled along the boardwalk! An amazing experience to be so close and watch such a majestic animal, go about its daily life below us. It was the perfect place to catch the sunset and a couple of the friendly locals were more than happy to point out birds or landmarks as we enjoyed our walk around the marsh
Great wildlife viewing area with a nice boardwalk foe easy walking.
Such a beautiful place. My mom of 81 will walk to the many benches and just enjoy the short walk to the car.
Very close to Anchorage. Abundant birds and wild life. Excellent volunteer staff! One came and offered binoculars to use during my visit.
Easy walk. There is a bathroom here. Its free. Saw a female moose with 2 calves. Geese with goslings. Some sort of secondary nesting bird. Heard a woodpecker. Aside from noisy humans, this is a wonderful spot to enjoy nature.
I love going here because it is never crowded. Something new to see every time. Throughout the year, the scenery changes. So going to get steps in or take a look at the wildlife, you will not be disappointed.
This is a great place to get out for a walk and see some wild life.
Theres a short boardwalk accessible from the parking lot. Got to see a moose walk right underneath our feet from the safety of the path.
Nice walk around the marsh with signs telling you about the different wildlife
If you love being in a relaxing setting of wildlife, this is a great place. Its never too crowded and plenty of boardwalk to stroll around.
What a great place to spend a sunny, spring Alaskan day! Its kept up on and quite clean. Im a lover of informational brochures and I got to snag a couple for my keepsakes. So far, my favorite outdoor place to visit. There are plenty of benches along the way, viewing binoculars to use along the path, and its all very wheelchair/stroller accessible.
Good place to walk and see birds. You may see other animals too but dont count on it.
Its a beautiful walk on a board walk in a marsh.
Nice little walk. A great place to see salmon and wildlife.
Always a fun time! Quiet spot to observe nature and maybe catch a glimpse of some wildlife!!
Amazing place to walk, relax with a book, and see tons of wildlife! Pro tip: go early in the morning or at dusk for more birds and fewer people ;)
Very beautiful area. Nice platform to walk on to check the areas out.
Peaceful and scenic place to enjoy a short walk.
Pretty place but there are a lot better places to spot wildlife in AK
Nice area to see wildlife! Boardwalk was a lot longer than I thought. We enjoyed it so much on our trip we stopped by 3 times to see what we could see.
Great place for a walk and if youre lucky you will see some wildlife
Great spot to see a lot of different birds and Moose
Awesome! Almost wore out my camera taking pictures of the Trumpeter Swans!
Great place to see all different kinds of water fowl.
Nice place to sit and reflect. Wildlife is a bit hit & miss.
Went to see the release of a rehabilitated Eagle! Wonderful to see so many baby geese, a moose, several bald eagles circling, beautiful sparrows. And those views!
Nice boardwalk, clean, and all of the binoculars work :D
Lovely views every way you look
Very peaceful place to walk and view birds and moose.
Amazing, lovely, but we missed moose
Wonderful protected marsh!! Lots of salmon and ducks!
A great place to enjoy a nice walk, watch the sunset and catch some views of wildlife. Easy to get to right outside of Anchorage.
Potters Marsh is a beautiful place to explore Alaska wildlife. Its also the perfect place to take small children. The boardwalk makes wildlife accessable and keeps your little explorers contained.
This was a great pit stop. Boardwalks are easy to access and walk on, well kept. Great for bird watching. Say some salmon. Heard it is also a great place to see moose but I didnt see any. Might be better in early morning to see them.
This is a great place to get a nice walk and learn about the wildlife in the area. Our friends said that in the spring and summer, you can see eagle nests in the trees and the marsh is full of birds and other animals. I was visiting in December when there was a lot of snow and not much wildlife around, but it was still nice to walk around and throw a few snowballs during our stroll I cant wait to go back in July!
I love this place, is just on the edge of town but you can see so many interesting things, mostly birds and fish, but people have also seen ermine, and bear tracks. The boardwalk is great because I can let toddler run ahead of me, he feels like he has freedom and I know he is safe. There are plenty of benches to rest on, some telescopes for distance viewing, and a restroom by the parking lot. No pets on the boardwalk so please leave them home if its warm out, they wont like staying in the car. Its just beautiful and I try to visit several times throughout the year. It can be icy in the winter, mostly in Febuary
This place was 9 minutes from where we were staying so we visited to see some birds but also to see if any other animals would come out to visit. This park was a great place to see moose and just to enjoy nature. Not necessarily a “Must Do”, but pretty close. Get out and enjoy the wildlife... even from the the city.
I’ve visited Potter Marsh twice and had a great time on both occasions. We saw all kinds of birds, including a bald eagle and some cute goslings. We also saw salmon, and although we didn’t see any moose, we saw the imprint in the grass from where one had been lying. Well worth a visit.
So cool. Mama moose with twins munching happily - close but safe distance to view from above on the boardwalk. Mother duck proud to impress with long train of well behaved offspring paddling across the water in perfect formation. Stick around longer, Im sure youd see lots more birds and wildlife. Love this place!
Great educational experience to learn how the Marsh was formed and which Wildlife it supports.
Great sunset spot!
Nice viewing platform and boardwalks. Today I saw bald eagles, Mallard ducks, Canada geese with their large goslings, and lots of spawning humpys and a few huge red Salmon. Theres a public restroom and boardwalks are accessible with ramps.
Outstanding day! Moose had his close up moments and two Bald Eagles showed up; one bathed in the stream for at least 25 minutes and left, as the second eagle flew and swooped around hunting for small game for quite a while. Very close to the City and completely wheelchair accessible, save for a few muddy trails. Boardwalk is disabled accessible most of the year, at times of no snow all year round. Bring a picnic and blanket and make your friends and family jealous as all hell!
Boring, nothing to see but 2 salmon in the stream
In spring and summer you can see the salmon from upclose. There is lots of other wildlife, some more easy to spot than others. For the past 3 years an eagle pair has been raising their brood from a nest visible from the viewing platform. It can be very windy, so take some warm clothes. There is always something to see so highly recommend.
Very nice place to visit. A nice wooden walkway so you can go out onto the marsh without disturbing the wildlife, you can sell all types of birds there all year long...Yes...even in the winter.
Best wildlife viewing location in Anchorage
Very peaceful. Lotsa interesting signboards. Usually a variety of wildlife (but not yesterday). Amazing that people went to such effort to preserve the wetlands in a way we can enjoy them non-destructively.
A fun time with my wife.
Moose and a matted pair of eagles. You never know what you will see at potters marsh.
My 3 & 4 yrs loved it! Very clean and safe! Something fun to do with the whole family
Cant bring your dog anymore. And like everywhere else in the summer: crowds. Very pretty. Great for viewing abundant birds.
Always a beautful place to go, great for pictures of wildlife and scenery.
A great little area with a fun boardwalk, benches and wildlife viewing decks. Handicap accessible, plenty of parking. We had some great winter views while we were there, but Im sure the surrounding area is gorgeous and well varied in every season.
Amazing boardwalk and facilities. The amount of birds we were able to see and photographs in less than hour was outstanding.
A very nice place to visit on a clear sunny day
Very nice place to visit.
While easy to miss, really nice place to stop and visit. Bathroom on site. Excellent walking paths for all levels of fitness.
A beautiful place to view and a wonderful place for your wedding.
There is always something new to see when you stroll down the boardwalk. It is a safe and beautiful place to go when you want to take a walk away from the city.
Nice but the peaceful setting is shattered by the sound of a gun range popping rounds next
Always fun
Cool boardwalk! Lots of wildlife. Huge beaver building its dam
Fun walking trail. Saw geese, other birds, and four Moose - 3 adults and one young one. Very breezy, but the raised boardwalk is nice to hike around. Decent restrooms and easy parking. Good place to get out and stretch the legs if we were doing long drives.
This is great for all ages and even wheelchairs. No dogs are allowed though! My kids love to go see wildlife and we love taking visitors to this location. There is always something to see from eagles, moose, bears, geese, chickadees, salmon, minnows, cranes, and more. Very family friendly with bathrooms available.
Really fun place to take the kids. They can run along the board walk and use the scopes to see any animals near by, and there definitely will be animals near by! My children usually only enjoy this activity for about 45 minutes and it’s such a close drive.
Nice for walk amidst marshy land for sighting various birds
Great place to visit with kids which is also handicap friendly. There are many viewing decks with free to use binoculars, and if you come at different points during the summer you can see a variety of wildlife. When my friends and I were last there we saw a moose maybe 15 ft away from the elevated walkway.
Great Salmon viewing area! Ive seen bears in the summer time - if you are wanting to take photos of the animals at night recommend not using a flash...someone did that while I was there and in turn scared and upset a bear...not a good idea. Should be common sense but just putting it out there.
We saw a moose with two babies! Restrooms were clean and the Australian couple that cares for the stop is great and informative.
Awesome!!!!!. Saw a grizzly. He was huge!!
Youll be able to see a lot of fish if you go to the right
I drove by this place several times before stopping. I thought its right by the highway and it couldnt be that great. Its definitely worth a quick stop. I spent about an hour walking on the boardwalk taking pictures of wildlife. In early August the small creek was full of pink salmon. Saw up close a moose.
Lots of cool scenery, but the brush is getting so tall along the boardwalk that you cant see past it.
Great spot to see birds and walkway was awesome and had binoculars to view if u dont have some
Nice long boardwalks extend into the marsh. Great for viewing wildlife, especially with binoculars. Saw several bald eagles nesting at a distance.
Natural site, raised boardwalk minimizes impact while providing tremendous views, informative signs.
Great place to view marsh birds, eagles and an occasional moose. Even some salmon come in through the west side. It is right near the city limits so just minutes from downtown Anchorage. It is all a boardwalk so very accessible for wheelchairs, strollers and elderly people who cant hike rough trails. Stay for ten minutes or ten hours.
Great place to go, just to relax, enjoy some time away from city noises. Recommend. I can imagine this is a great place to visit in May/June/July and August.
Fabulous protected land for watching wildlife in the wild. Birds land here during migration, and several species stick around .
Beautiful, lots of active wildlife, easy to access
Really enjoyed the scenery and definitely recommend to visit this
Great place to walk around before heading down the peninsula
Fun to see!
Informative full of baby geese and other birds and thier offspring lol
Nice place. Great for bird viewing.
Amazing, extensive and interesting walkway that leads you through this marsh area.
If your in the area I highly recommend checking out this place. Watching the Salmon spawn was amazing!
Didnt see anything that knocked my socks off.
Nice boardwalk. Great walk for bird watching
Have patience you will definitely spot the wildlife, better to be there in the early hours of the day. There are a lot of variety of birds, ducks in and around the marsh. Its good if you have a binoculars as this will double your chances of viewing the species. Try to be calm or maintain a low voice as the birds fly away if they feel our presence.
Barely any wildlife except a few ducks. Why? Maybe because its literally across the highway from a GUN RANGE. Gun shots can clearly be heard in this Marsh by humans, let alone animals. Why is it a good idea to put a gun range across a wild animal marsh?Thats just lacking common sense and obviously dumb. Why would moose or reindeer go TOWARDS gun shots?
Perhaps better early or late the main animals to be seen were humans
Great place but bring your own binoculars!
Been to Potter Mash a couple of times. A really pleasant and easy going walk. Nothing strenuous and it is not very long. Great for all ages. While I never have seen too many birds, the area itself is beautiful and relaxing. Great for an evening stroll.
Nice views, nice long walk on the boardwalk on the marsh land. I saw lots of salmon run in the creek. Close to train track, beautiful scenary when train passes by.
