I really enjoy it, nice hike! Next time will start much earlier than 8:30, as it got hot fast. I will definitely go back, its beautiful!
Good for biking, hiking and trail running. Bring lots of water. Fun for the whole family!
Mostly flat. Very shady. Follows a stream. Easy to hike THE stream if thats your thing. lush
Friendly trail. Great for moderate hiking and biking
Signage isnt great for this trail so we got lost on the way there (Google maps got extra confused by the addresses available) and while on the trail (we ended up on a different, higher, more exposed trail instead) We didnt mind a whole lot cuz both of us were down for doing it just for the exercise but it wouldve been nice to have been able to find this one (which is the one we wanted) on the way to it rather than on the way back to the car. Lots of mountain bikes on a narrow trail with my little dog was tedious but they were all very friendly and polite! Will come back to Actually Do the El Prieto trail.Pictured are the only signs we really saw.
Great hiking and biking trails. Many shades.
Great place to hike with the family.
My go to Mtb trail. A punishing steep climb w awesome downhill. A good combo of fast flow trail up top and more technical rocky parts down low. The stream crossings make your ride pretty dirty so be ready to wash the ride when u get home.
Nice place but hard for mountain bike but not impossible
Not a lot of shade on the trail. But lots of water spots with shade.
I enjoy walk in this place.
Very nice walking trail, kids loved it!
Greaaat place but i twist my ankle and scratch my knee:(
Bike ride from Oak Grove Park up The Arroyo Seco.
LOVE this hike... splits into two totally different parts... one is kind of desert-y and the other is forest-y. Depends what mood youre in. If youre trying to get some sun take the left side desert hike, if you want shade and lots of green take the right side forest hike.
Love the MTB trail
The hiking trail into the canyon is secluded and full of life, especially in the early mornings and evenings. Also connects to other trails.
It was pretty good :)
Hikers please beware that El Prieto trail is heavily used by mountain bikes. Most use bells so keep an ear out, theyre friendly
Beautiful place
Parking near JPL and hiked up the Gabrielino Trail. It has a lot of shades and a river alongside. We went up Fern Canyon about half way. Loved it. Has a good view of JPL.
This canyon is quite verdant and scenic with all the rain thats fallen lately. I definitely recommend hiking it!
Great place for a quick mountain biking
Great Trail we Mnt bikers that start from top of Mnt Wilson take Sunset trail to campground and up fire road in belive thats still Brown Mnt fire road
Great mountain biking trail
Really fun nice Mountain Biking. Almost every thing you could ask for in a mountain biking trail. But yield to the hikers and be Courteous to everyone.
El prieto loop mountain biking was great
Beautiful shaded trail
Lovely
Cool place to hike
Great location for a hike.. Typically very clean trail and safe a few homeless campers about a mile in a happen otherwise great true
Another natural haven, a place to breathe easy, just watch out for the poison oak.
Excellent place
This is a Southern California Classic for mountain bikers!! Fast and flowy trail, and the scenery is just beautiful!!
Shady nice hike trail.
Beautiful 4 miles from Altadena road to the picnic tables on El Prieto. I recommend taking this trail on a week day, as the mountain bikers are intrusive on weekends.
Great Hikes!
Nice trail. with a creek
My first experience here was about 15 yrs ago.i never get tired of it .every rain season it changes to a better trail. I try doing it once or twice during the work week to stay in descent shape for bigger rides. keeps u on our toes. love it
Nice long trails. Keep alert for the mountain bikers on the narrow parts of the trail.
Nice trail course.
Beautiful botanical hike.
As always we had a great time be sure to bring water
Nice view
One of the best trails in Pasadena California pretty cool for mountain biking or hiking but you have to be careful youre hiking but there are snakes and bikes coming down hill
Incredible last section to the world famous mt Lowe mountain biking trail. It is a beautiful trail full of river crossings but beware of the poison ivy.
Nice hiking, but lots of coyotes.
This is the Disneyland of Los Angeles mountain biking
As a hiking trail it can be a bit intimidating due to the high volume of mountain bike traffic so Id probably keep off on weekend mornings. For the mountain bike crowed this trail is special and serves as the main weekend meet up hub for many riders and MTB clubs, its best categorized as intermediate due to its steep exposure, sharp switchbacks and baby head chunder. The trail snakes through a beautiful green canopy of trees, plants and plenty of stream crossings but beware of the Poison Oak.El-P has survived wildfires, storm flooding and mud slides, thanks to CORBA, MWBA, volunteers and the Forest Service El-P remains as one of the best MTB trails to ride in LA.
Trailhead is located at the bottom of the trail and can be accessed at the Windsor/Ventura lot. Head up Brown Mountain Road (google calls it N. Arroyo Boulevard for some reason) and the trail will begin after you cross the creek.
Very nice place
Lots of water in the streams right now. Weekend gets busy with downhill bikers. Shady half of the time. Mosquitos during summer months.
Epic mountain bike riding.
Nice for o good hike
