Beautiful historic church... completed durimg the Revolutionary War... George Washington owned a bench area along the north wall and frequently attended services. The docent provides a very informative discussion of the founding, building and history of the church. It is a simple but classical Georgian design and is authentically maintained as an active church today. For the docent presentation you are able to sit in the George Washington benches... also where other sitting Presidents have sat (most recent was George and Laura Bush). Of interest, just after the outbreak of World War 2, President Roosevelt and his wife, Eleanor, hosted PM Winston Churchill in the very same seats! Too cool!
Beautiful opportunity to walk among history. The Church and grounds are lovely. Whether strolling through the courtyards and admiring the gates on the outside, or the lovely interior, a beautiful day was had as we enjoyed this perfect setting. I mean, George Washington worshipped here. Does it get more American? Go. Its in a great neighborhood. Everything surrounding is beautiful: historic or modern.
Went on the colonial haunted tour and really enjoyed it. This tour ended up in the graveyard not inside any building. The grounds are well kept and beautiful. We plan to visit again but in the daytime
A great place to visit! They seem like a very active church doing good work in the community. A beautiful building too.
Stopped in while on a trip for Easter Sunday service. The people were very welcoming and they offered a family friendly service for parents with children. During the service there was even an opportunity for the children to come to the front and have their own mini service. It was a unique experience to worship with others while so far from home. If I was ever in the area again I would definitely visit.
Got to sit in the same pew as George Washington, Winston Churchill, FDR, and Robert E Lee. Awesome.... The docent was also really good!
I really enjoyed my tour here! Free tours after 2 pm on Sundays. So much history and so well preserved.
Great warm feeling comes from the pastor and all the people. Great place to belong. Wish i I lived here
Always knowledgable and interesting docents. Interesting history and pretty church.
We stopped by here to see it since it was historical. It was night we did not go inside. Its a beautiful old building but we had issues finding it.
Deeply moving. Beautiful inspirational service. Pretty spectacular to pray in the same Church as Geirge Washington!
A great visit for sightseeing. We stopped here as part of a larger tour group to Mt Vernon. Our guide in the church was very knowledgeable and it was an interesting place to stop.
Unbelievable place. Original 1749 structure...This was George Washingtons church. His family box is still intact. Let the docent give you the tour and dont forget to leave some cash in the box...goes to the maintenance of this historic church.
The cemetery looks like a quaint place to chat. The gift shop is cozy. The building is beautiful. And the hostorical markers and good ole George Washington membership reference.
Very Nice Beauty Prayers Songs Chris American Church
Historic, simple and inspiring
Beautiful part of our history.
Beautiful Church I Have Visited Multiple Times. Lovely People and Very Caring.
They have a great historical tour.
Thoughts of George Washington and Robert E. Lee worshipping in the same church brings history to life. There was a tour guide who was quite cordial as well as knowledgeable. He updated us to the fact that this church has a vibrant ministry today. We spent some valuable time in the church yard looking at history gravemarkers. This remains a crown jewel of historic downtown Alexandria.
Absolutely Beautiful Church right in Old Town. Lots of history plus amazing grounds (with a cemetary on the property). A must see for anyone visiting! Also a wonderful place for Fellowship (refer to the Where and When for meeting types and times). All are welcome!!
I like this place!!!! I really feel very peace here. Positive vibes, Historical building, neat and clean place
My spirit was at peace, there.
Historic church where George Washington went to church
Nice historical church to visit.
We wanted to experience historic old town Alexandrias history and were not dissapointed. Walking to Christ church from our hotel Indigo itself was amazing. Entering through the East side we walked through the cemetery first . The flowers were in full bloom so we took lots of pics. Entering the church were George Washington and family attended was special. To make it more so a beautiful eldely lady greeted us and beckons us to a large pew and proceeded to give us a beautiful history lesson. Suprisingly, her invite to couple just entering to sit with us was dismissed and they left. So my wife and I and two teenage granddaughters sat with her .....no one else in the church and were transported back in time.
Very interesting cemetery with 200+yr old graves
Steeped in history. Be sure to go at a time the docents are there!
It is a beautifully maintained historic church and cemetery.
Wonderful tour by Dell. Too bad political correctness has found its way into history. You cant change history, you have to study it and learn from it.
I was only there once to attend a service; the architecture is typical Protestant Anglican of the period; sparse, whitewashed, with individual family pews. Nothing special except that George Washington worshiped here...although the church now seems to want to remove that historical reference now.Unless you plan to go there to attend Sunday services you can probably skip it. Although the garden is nice place to stop and get some shade in the late spring/early summer.
An amazing experience, both with history and God Almighty.
Famous old church. Interesting cemetery
My wife and I visited for the historical significance of Christ Church. The church was attended by George Washington and Robert E. Lee. It is a beautiful structure and well worth your visit of historical landmarks in Alexandria, VA.
Great stop. George Washingtons church.
Was cool to see where President Washington attended church!
Awesomeness.History preserved.
Church over 246 years old. Church George Washongton attended- such hiatory.
Really great tour and visit.
Nice place for a quick quiet visit.
As a former parishioner, choir member and some one who got married in this magnificent church, I am very distressed that the Vestry has yielded to some liberal crazies and agreed to dishonor our first President. George Washington has been an honored past member for nearly 250 years and now a few righteous liberals think he is offensive. What idiocy! I feel similarly about Robert E. Lee.I have been proud to say that I was a member of Christ Church for over 25 years and I would be again if the Vestry restores the honor paid to George Washington -- right now I am embarrassed.
Great evening service
Wonderful historical Church - make sure to take your hat off - and was attended by the Washington and Lee families. Went there with my Mom.Worth a visit and the architecture is beautiful.
Interesting church with historical significance.
This hidden, historic gem is one of my favorite places to take visitors. The American history that fills these walls is incredible and interesting for a variety of enthusiasts and low-key travelers. Make sure you take a docent-led tour and sit in Washingtons pew!
Wonderfully welcoming place.
Great tour guides, free but I recommend you tip

Great bits of American history
Very nice church, even nicer staff! My first time ever at this church, very warm.
Enjoyed visiting this historic and super awesome church . The management and staff are very friendly and informative
Beautiful and so historic
I have contacted the rector. She will not get back to me. This is what is wrong with the Episcopal church. This is also why the pews are getting emptier. I left this so called, religion, a few years ago, when the church strayed from biblical teachings. Pathetic.
I think it is absolutely wonderful that this church is making such a brave and unprecedented move of openly disrespecting George Washington. What good Goys you are! Keep on turning your backs on your people and heritage. Cheer us on as we flood you stupid Goyim with violent 3rd world savages...I mean...let us continue to culturally enrich all the (soon to be formerly...muehehehe) white countries with people less fortunate. Let us do that until you are a minority in your own countries. It will work out just fine, I promise. Just look at Sweden! And remember, my fellow white people, you arent allowed to exclude anyone from your countries. That would be hateful, bigoted, and mean. When Israel does it thats totally fine, though.
Dishonoring someone who founded your church and helped bring this country together... You should be ashamed of yourselves... You cant change or erase history... no matter how SNOWFLAKE you are... Last time I ever step foot in your church... I dont feel welcome there..
They help the less fortunate
Serenely between two times/worlds.
This is a beautiful and historic church that does the people and city of Alexandria proud.

Strong community. Welcoming church. Incredible staff. Welcomes all!
