I took a tour before the museum opened. The guide was very knowledgeable and the small group experience was nice. There is a free trolley that runs up and down that main road. There are really nice restaurants close by too. I had a lovely time in the area.

An absolute must see! Visiting the apothecary was like taking a step back in time. Everything is preserved and original to the early 1900s. The bell jars even contain their original contents which include many exotic chemicals and tinctures. The bookshelves are stocked with original pharmaceutical journals and many of the storage drawers contain their original contents. I highly recommend the tour.

So many fascinating things to see. Artifacts! History on display. The untouched and preserved history really illustrates the way our society has always placed high value on improving health. The druggist shop is a cool place to visit in Old Town.

Interesting pharmacy museum. I gave it three stars instead of four or five because1) I don’t care for being forced into guided tours.2) The tour was too short (30 minutes)3) We were supervised like little school children. I understand that everything in the building is historical and needs to be preserved, but while we were in courage to ask questions, they were also quick to usher us out to receive the last tour of the day. I spent more time getting to the museum than I did actually getting to enjoy it. If I had never visited a pharmacy museum before or an apothecary museum before, I would have been even more disappointed.

I did a quick tour at this mini pharmacy museum a few hours before my flight and Im glad I did that. The tour is quick and affordable and I didnt have to wait long since they start a tour every after 30 minutes. Our guide is very knowledgeable and we are welcome to ask any questions we like. I enjoyed my trip here and amazed how they were able to maintain such a unique museum.

I loved my tour at Stabler-Leadbeater! The guide, Brittany, made the tour fun and engaging. She explained the history of the apothecary and medical practices of the time. The tour only cost $5 and was about 30 minutes in length. There are also special tours to choose from, like an Outlander-related tour, at certain times of year. I definitely recommend checking out this museum!

Its a long running pharmacy left as it stood when it closed in the early 20th century. They have a small gift shop and do tours on 15 and 45 past the hour during their open hours for $5. The tour takes you into the shop portion of the pharmacy/apothecary and into the warehouse area where they mixed (compounded) and stored items for wholesale. The building and all of the original jars, boxes, and storage containers are neat to see. This particular apothecary is steeped in history- they supplied medicines to Congress. I think the tour is well worth the time and money. I dock it a star since a more knowledgeable tour guide could really make this a unique and interesting experience by expanding on the history or ingredients used as medicine. If I understand correctly, all if the employees/tour-guides are volunteers, so its probably hit or miss what a particular guide knows and can offer.

Very cool place! Disappointed in the guide - she wasn’t friendly or welcoming. At one point I wanted a picture of something without other people in it and so I patiently waited for people to leave the room. As I went to take the photo (which takes seconds) she impolitely informed me that the tour was over and there would be no more pictures. It was worth the $5, hopefully you get a nicer guide!

The Carlyle House is a must visit! A gem that is a must see. This house had such a varied and historic history. George Washington was here! He was related to Carlyle through marriage. Five governors met in this house pre-Revolution. Start in the basement to start the tour You can see the bones that make up this house- and the modern efforts it took to make it stable enough for humans to visit. There is original furniture that was donated back to the museum by family. Adelightful must see.

O M G.This place is so cool. Like. It is a place frozen in time. You walk in, and you are looking at the exact same things that someone at the end of the 19th century was looking at. Even cooler is that during the tour, they take you up to the workrooms where they stored their medicines and ingredients. It was like being in a history book. The gift shop also has a bunch of cool items that are either made right there or are hard to find elsewhere. You must visit!

This tour would have been better maybe if i were not the only person on the tour. The historical store fixtures are vary interesting. When I tour places like this, I think about what will be left in 200 years of todays special places. Who thought to keep all the records? The notes for an order from Martha Washington? The cabinets still stocked with herbs and the tools of the trade? It really is quite interesting.

This museum is amazing! Of course I had a private tour by Gretchen Bulova. Which might not mean a lot to you...I have been to the museum when its open to the public and its extraordinary! One can capture the way a purveyor may have felt a hundred fifty years ago...But to be admitted when the apothecary is closed, invokes a little bit of the spirit of the supernatural. You catch a glimpse of the ghostly patrons of the past, discussing their illnesses and potential remedies with a long deceased pharmacologist.Alas, Gretchen and I were there on business, she showing me some plasterer work that needed to be done as a result of some leaking.
