Alexandrias treasure. Great place for a quick walk.
This is historic site and also a park, the headquarters building is a small museum. There are artifacts and interesting stories about the forts located around the DC area. This is the best preserved civil war era fort in the DC area. They have rebuilt one of the bastians to the original specifications and armed it with period replica cannons. Admission and parking are free.
What a find!I was in Alexandria for a conference and wanted an easy run in a safe place. Well, I also got some history with this as well. It is a great loop for walking and running with the history of the fort during civil war times. There are bathrooms and parking, an ampitheatre, playground and benches so there is something for everyone. Very pretty in the Spring.
A beautiful place to spend with the family or friends. Plenty of open spaces.
Nice little Fort, one of the many built around the Capital to protect it during the American Civil War, and great place to visit in good weather. Visited it with my Mom and the staff was friendly and the museum, while small, had a lot of artifacts. The park is open to the public. I had a friend who liked to walk it during the weekends because he lived so close to it.
Enjoyed a nice walk around this park!!
Fantastic park for walking dogs, jogging, or just enjoying good weather. Public restrooms, a cool-looking museum, picnic tables, water for dogs, and charcoal grills. Neighborhood gem!
It has a quaint museum with Civil We era artifacts. The historical part of the park is fairly small but it still has plenty of interesting stops to check out.
Really beautiful and peaceful park. Went around noon on a Thursday and there were few people there. It started to get busier around 1:30pm. Nice paved trail (also a 1-lane road) that goes through the park, good for walking dogs. Theres a nice big playground with lots of shade, spigots and bowls for dogs to drink out of along the trail, shaded picnic tables, a small museum, an outdoor amphitheatre with power outlets, a bathroom, and the fort itself. I saw that near the playground was reserved for a birthday party over the weekend, so it could be nice for childrens birthday parties. Very peaceful and clean.
It was a good visit and the museum was nice but it was much smaller than we expected from what we saw online. Saw everything in under an hour and it was free. Great spot for walking. We really enjoyed our stop here, There is plenty of history to be seen and it was a nice place to explore. The only down side was that the museum was closed the day we went. Otherwise, it was a lot of fun!
This is a small museum, as are all the Alexandria museums. This one is free. I really enjoyed it. They have many items on display, given their small size. Some of my favorites--the scale model of the original fort and the map of the defenses of Washington during the Civil war. My son found the doctors kit to be particularly interesting. The gift shop is small but has many fun items.
Found this nice museum by accident while doing a Google search for museums close to Alexandria, VA. The young gentleman staffing the desk was nice and patiently answered my questions about the Civil War. There were only a few other visitors while I was there and the grounds were peaceful. There is a model of the fort in the museum, and I was glad I stopped by before heading out to the reconstructed area where the cannons are. It really helped in understanding just what we were looking at outside.
Small but charming historical site and park. One-room museum that has a decent collection of Civil War artifacts. The fort is surrounded by a large park with lots of picnic areas and room to roam.
The playground has a climbing section for little ones and older kids, as well as two sets of swings. Theres a lot of space for a picnic and amble parking. The historic cannon area is cool for the kids to look at. That area isnt large but its never crowded. There are tons of trees to keep cool under the hot summer sun.
Interesting place for a great walk.
This historic site is lovely, but it would be even more lovely if the people who use the picnic sites didnt leave garbage literally all over the place. Small playground. Remnants of the fort. Cemetery. Good place to walk, and there are lots of dogs and kids here on nice days.
Our dogs favorite place there, has the best sniffs and he loves to pee there
Small museum of revolutionary memorabilia, but interesting. The staff was well knowledged to answer any questions. The land had a dozen picnic areas for use and reserve, and the road was a nice circle for jogging and walking.
A historic fort and a park together in the middle of city is a relatively quiet relaxing place. The park has plenty of picnic areas, bathrooms, parking places, an amphitheatre, a museum, and of course the historic reconstructed fort.
This little museum and park is worth a visit! It had some interesting displays that made the soldiers in the civil war very real. The docents are friendly ascended willing to share. The mounds and cannons are interesting. A beautiful park, and it also has cookout sites and a nice playground.
The museum is very nicely done if kind of small. The exhibits are well explained by the signage. The walking trails are fine over the paved portions but where they are not paved, they are mud holes. For some reason the signs seem to direct you to the worst of the mud. The maps at the various stops do a good job of explaining what you are looking at.
Pretty neat little museum and pleasant enough walk
Nice place for a dog walk or little excursion
Beatiful for walking, picnics, and dog walkings.
Outstanding historical location that is well preserved. It portrays the life and work of soldiers protecting Washington during the Civil War. I will go back.
I have had beautiful and natural experience at this park.Have been going there for 21 years and it is everything you want it to be.Your dream come true includes: nature and all its beauty wild and free as you please, historic sites to behold, plates dating back to the war dates, informing you about the past,Friendly dogs to pet, and owners likewise to interact with,A playground where your kids can play, and you relax, while Listing to the cute birds rich singing, and the squrrile chipping about. So many wonderful and amazing things to find and explorer in FortWard Park & Museum, youll never wanna leave!Sincerely Miranda.

Awesome little park that kids can walk around see a few canons then go play on a playground.
Great place to go powerwalking or running. The main feature is a historic museum. Various times thru the year they have war reenactment s here. Theres a playground towards the back of here also. Grills for cooking out. You can also make outdoor event/party reservations at this park.
Awrsome park with a well preserved earthen fort work. There is also a section that has been restored to period. It is a great way to get out and see some tangible history.
I like how this park has interactive programs, mostly free to the public. This program involved the live artillery firing of cannons, used in defense of Washington, DC, during the Civil War period. Period reenactors set up camp and gave demonstrations on weapons and ammunition of the period.
Good place to excercise
Well preserved earthworks with a few reconstructed bastions. The house features a small exhibit displaying the material culture of soldiers
A lot of folks like to walk or run in the morning (1 lap is 2/3 mi). Theres a way to reserve different picnic pavilions, recommend checking the website. I havent seen the museum, but the cannons & bunkers are neat. There are civil war reenactments on certain Saturdays.
Quick free museum with a great walk around the park. Will be going back for a walk quite frequently
Perfect for walking and a playground for children.
Very interesting.
A daily treat for walkers, runners, and a few cyclists. Very family oriented with cookout stations and childrens play areas. The museum and historic areas are well done and certainly worth a visit or two should you have an interest in Civil War artifacts and issues.
Nice museum with very informative & historic display.
Really nice museum with very interesting artifacts.
Nice place to walk, well maintained. Its not too big and not to small.
Clean and a pleasure to walk in. Today noticed two trees had fallen due to rain. There are many tree stumps in park, but appears to be few replacement trees. Would be nice to see new young trees.
Love to go hear to
Great little museum. They have kids programs too. Great little history gem in Alexandra.
Wonderful history, interesting museum, great place for a picnic or a walk
Great park for a BBQ and a great walk with the family
We had a ton of fun here. And if you like pokemon go, its even better
Best Santa around. Fort is great for history buffs
Nice museum, nice park and the rebuilt earthworks and replica artillery were nice
This is really a neat little gem - you can drive around the loop, but most people use the loop for walking/running. There is a playground in the park, and there are several historical markers. The museum is definitely worth a visit! There are several other amenities scattered throughout.
Small museum with some interesting artifacts. Only a small portion of the original fort remains but it has been restored nicely. If your in the area, stop by. The park surrounding the fort is nice, large, and well maintained.
Great place to run and relax
This is a really nice park with trails and historic artifacts to see. If you are in the area, its worth a visit if the weather is nice.
Love walking around fortward park clean

Great location for a walk and playing some Pokémon Go. Four Gyms and a dozen or so pokestops. Often the location for community day BBQs
Nice park with historic sites.
Very nice little museum. The grounds are also in great shape. Will definitely consider returning to walk the paths and/or cookout.
Sweet little museum. Good displays n knowledgeable staff. Love the reenactments in summer n the concerts on Thursdays. Very clean.
Went here for the cannon shooting for the kids. They were a bit scared but really not so bad. Nice inside museum. Lots of room to sprawl out and run the younguns.
Surprisingly nice little museum with good artifacts from the civil war. The kids loved seeing the cannons in the rebuilt bastion.
It is a wonderful neighborhood park with historic significance
Great place to get an idea of the fortifications that surrounded Washington DC during the Civil War
Nicely preserved civil war fort, worth a visit if in the area
The place is worth visiting. It intrigues the mind in a way that cannot be described. I thought over my visit long after the visit itself. How the things I saw correspond to different issues I have read, to the numerous series I have watched, to my ideas and believes. Quite refreshing.
Phenomenal municipal park for families or visitors.
Nice park, lots of open space!
Great experience. Love this park
Great history lesson
Nice park for picnics, walking, and being outdoors. A lot of historic information throughout the park.
Great park!
Good park
Awesome place to jog with plenty of room to run and see historic war artifacts, not to mention the many Pokéstops!
Off the beaten path but this place is a must see if you love history.
Wonderful afternoon out
Wonderful park to take the kids. There is a play ground, plus the historical stuff.
Great place for picnicking and jogging.
Small park with some picnic spaces. Older people walk the road for exercise.
Really nice pleasant park to walk around in
Great Pokémon Poké stop and Gyms.
Great place to walk, picnic and get a bit of history.
As much as this had been talked about, it really wasnt that impressive. Could have had more restored
Beautyful
