This review is for the Preserve on Mayfield Rd. First impressions were promising as I drove past a beautiful pond to the parking area. As I headed to the trail I noticed the arm was closed & locked with no signs or postings stating why the trail is closed. I did notice a trail to the right of the arm where I could see where a lot of foot traffic or hikers have gone around the arm to continue on the trail. I wasnt sure if I should, so I will try to find out more information. Not sure who to contact...
No facilities. Just a path. Nice wide path. Deer hunting is allowed with bow only.
I grew up in this area and knew this land before it became the preserve. As a kid we really enjoyed playing in those woods. I sometimes revisit and walk the trails. Its been several years since ive hiked the entire area. During that time, it was kept up by driving a tractor with disc narrows on the back, which made walking extremely difficult. Also, at the entrance was found different types of cans (think beer, soft drink, etc.) That were used by drug users to smoke whatever. Meanimg the cans werw bent, had a hole in them and burnt where the hole was located. So, groups of drug users would go down and do their thing. I stop hiking due to obvious worries. It might be better now, I havent ventured on the trails in some time. It is a beautiful area with potential. Just needed a little more TLC. Would LOVE to get a job taking care places like this and dealing with problems I listed!!!
This is a nature preserve, it has a long walking trail through the woods. The trail isnt level, wear hiking shoes, bring water, bug repellant, and tissue paper. Not recommended for small kids or the elderly. You will be up close to nature and its habitats. The trail is winding, up and down hills, over fallen natural debris, and watch for snakes.
This is a well kept secret. Very peaseful location fpr walks.

Snakes. Snakes.
