Beautiful area to get outdoors. My husband and I took our bikes to ride. The online map appears to show the trail going all the way around the area but the trail stops at the river by the turnpike on the north end. No way through. It would be nice if the maps showed incomplete parts of the trail.
Great place to get a little bit of nature amongst the city. Awesome for walking venturing and just a peaceful place to relax.
Such a great place to kayak. So many places to enjoy nature and just relax right in the city
Such a great close to home escape. Wish folks would help pick up trash but its still worth going. Just bring a trash bag and fill it up on your hike!
A nice, easy hiking area for the most part. If you go off-roading a bit, the brush can get thick in places, but its not terrible & there are ways around to avoid the large overgrowth.
Nice for a January 90-minute stroll (no leaves, and everythings dormant, but no bugs or heat either ️). Saw an armadillo, and lots of birds. Peaceful. Birds chirping and sun sparkling on the water. Wear shoes you dont mind getting muddy and bring a bag to put them in after, and a change of shoes. Then you can explore all the nice little trails through the woods and you dont need to go on the road at all. Good to get away from buildings and roads for a while, get some fresh air, and clamber over (and on) fallen trees.
Fun place to kayak.
Awesome its beautiful
Really enjoyed this from the perspective of a kayak on the river. Beautiful
Great nature diversity.......mostly waterlands but plenty of trails through the woods along the waterlands....great for dogs......MOSQUITOES can be bad bug spray recommended
Great place to get out and get active! Im in love with the multiple spots where you can jump off the trail and get to the river.
Nice place, lot of things to do.
Our favorite local nature escape. Lots of area to explore if youre willing to venture off the road. Heartbreaking to see trees damaged by hatchet-happy hikers. Extremely helpful to have topography GPS when exploring off the main road. A few good places to relax and enjoy a fire by the river.
I spent a morning kayaking at the Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge. It was a relaxing time with nature built into city life. Easy loading and unloading access. Parking fills up fast!
Very nice and cool spot but the trails can be very confusing and dead end without notice.
A place where I like to come to relax with my family and take some photos of Nature; away from the noise of the City, crossing Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge is the best, you can take from 2:45 to 3:00 hours to cross if you stop to eat a sandwich and enjoy nature, I love it, I recommend it 100%
Peaceful walk/bike trails. Lots of different ways to get lost on the trails. Kids were jumping off a cliff into the river that flows through. If you walk far enough theres a TP someone built. All around nice clean place will go again. Sticky
Many trails very private. Just dont go after dark.
Absolutely love this place!! Great for dogs, I let my lab just run around and she knows every trail and water hole. Very peaceful and quiet. Dont go after rain though or your gonna need some muddin shoes. Ive seen deer, amradillos, opossum, plenty of different kinds of birds, rabbits, butterflies everywhere, squirrels, big cat tracks.
Beautiful place for outdoor hiking.
This is a beautiful property with lots of trees and wildflowers and an awesome path.
Great place, we used to love to go here to get away for a while, but the last time we were there, there were some meth heads in the area and made my wife feel very uncomfortable. We have never seen rangers or law enforcement in the area. I think they have a meth lab in here.
Very nice relaxing place to take a nature walk right in the city.
Most of my experience is down River road. Makes a decent hike back in the woods. Boring for mountain bikes but if you have a gravel bike that would be a good exercise trail just watch out for mud. Dont even bother if its rained recently. Also, there are wells far up the road owned by the city of Bethany. So if you walk your dogs along the road please keep them on a leash because sometimes the city workers drive down through there.
Great place to escape to nature. Hiking and fishing.
Great place to bike or hike!
Beautiful area to get outdoors. My husband and I took our bikes to ride. The online map appears to show the trail going all the way around the area but the trail stops at the river by the turnpike on the north end. No way through. It would be nice if the maps showed incomplete parts of the trail.
Love to kayak here. I haven’t really got out of the boat yet, so I can’t speak for the actual park, just the water.
Perfect place to get away from the city (without leaving the city)!
We usually take our dogs walking here and love it but on this occasion there was a homeless camp right on the banks of the water so didnt feel to safe.
Great area to kayak.
Its overgrown and wild, which makes it great getaway for being near okc. Theres an old dirt road that is nice and flat, or you can venture into the brush were there are some hiking trails. Really great place for bird watching, saw a bard owl and some woodpeckers. Picked a bunch of oyster shrooms
This is such a tranquil get away for being in OKC. I love kayaking through the narrow waterways with Cat Tails that create a natural wall. I would be careful kayaking during duck season as i saw a handful of duck blinds.
Fun spot for a variety of activities including but not limited to treks with dogs.
Peaceful floating area for kayaking and paddle boards!!!
My husband and I go out here to cook and chill. Its a great place if youre willing to walk some. Love it.
If you like nature or just a nice place to take a peaceful walk, this place is good!!
Best place to hangout on weekends
The secret tunnel is amazing!
Great for Skywalker or Rey training
Used to like going down river to cast net. Bait for the lake. Now according to the game ranger they changed that. Its now pole fishing only all the way to the power plant. Still a fun place. Sometimes theres a few weird people that find their way down there. So stay aware.
I used to love this place, well I still do but .....these are not the worst of things, just a few photos. Stinchcomb is a great nature fix in the city. Unfortunately it is not going to be for much longer. It has restrictions such as no motorized vehicles, no hunting, fires, etc, that are ignored and no one does anything about it. My husband and I have many times come up on kids partying or we have finished putting out a smoldering log, or have told dirt bike riders to leave. We have called 911, but no action taken. There is a bar style locked gate at the entrance to keep vehicles out and it has a padlock on it. If a fire gets out of hand or someone is hurt or threatened, the worst result will be what takes place because when you do call someone they are usually unfamiliar with the area and send no assistance. (I say this from experience first hand), I realize it is most likely City of OKC responsibility, but I have and will continue to reach out in hopes someone will care enough to help find a solution to better the situation at Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge at the edges of Bethany, OKC. We pick up trash when we walk but its getting out of hand from the partying and so forth going on. If someone would just patrol a bit on weekends it would likely make an incredible difference. The guys in this photos were there recently on 01/14/18, the one on the red bike was argumentative, and told not to behave like a dumbass, his remark was Im, a dumbass with money, I guess he felt that gave him the right to ignore rules, laws and respectfulness. These guys were all old enough to be bearded, not children.
Beautiful walk. Lots of shade coverage. But I do recommend not walking this trail after a rain. Theres no pavement. I cant wait to walk it in the fall and winter.
Great place very peaceful
I go to shinchcomb often and every time it surprises Mee with dense forests where you might find yourselves in the midgest of birds with all the funny activies(off the trail) swarps and walking with the flow of river with best sunsets and sunrises, with wildlife and today I saw an otter in my life, stars.️
Beautiful place.
Great for hiking, paddleboarding, and kayaking. Loads of wildlife, pretty skies, and a great place for a picnic or a day hike.
Awesome, got two lifers here, Harris Sparrow and Franklin Gull
Love taking my son and dog here
Never knew this existed. Had a great time exploring
Very peaceful
Had a blast!!! Wear bug spray even after a freeze in November! Theres a lot of Riverside trails and interesting concrete art hidden.
Kayaking into stinchcomb from overholser
Such a nice place to take a long hike.
First time here, my husband and I are grocachers and came out for an adventure. We kayaked 3 miles and saw much wildlife and an utter lack of trash in the water. It made for a wonderful morning.
This is a place you can go to and enjoy the Beauty of the Outdoors and feel the Oklahoma breeze as you soak in the Sun. There are different activities for different levels of interest, kayaking, canoeing, hiking,or my favorite just sit and enjoy the Peaceful Outdoors void of WiFi
Beautiful trails! Lots of wildlife! Perfect fishing spots!
Absolutely pretty awesome place. Little known fact its also home to bigfoots Lodge. Along the river side theres a lot of duck blinds. For the avid bird watchers.
Beautiful day. Awesome day to hike. I almost stepped on a little green snake on the road. Too cute!
Quiet and beautiful!
If you want to get outside this is a great place to do so. Bonus point because its right in your backyard (if youre in the metro).
My favorite fishing spot.
Awesome place to come for a short hike!
They didnt put enough BBQ sauce on our burgers so we had to go get more. They would have got 5 stars if they could have put a decent amount on our burgers instead of a spot about the size of a silver dollar.
Lots of trees in the way
Accessible and dog friendly, but with some litter
Its a beautiful natural habitat. Great for kayaking or SUP boarding or if youre the kind that prefers the ground. Hit the dirt running and discover the many miles of trails that run along the river. You wont be disappointed theres plenty of wildlife to see! Yes, you can fish here.
Beautiful place love the walking trails.
This is my go to location to catch up on nature. Mosquitos are tough on the spring, deer are abundant in the fall, tails are lightly traveled year round.
Pretty little area looks like fun for wading or looking at little water creatures
People dug out a big hole in the road to make it hard for duck hunters to get to thier blinds.
Awesome place for a relaxing mtb ride. Basically it is just over 5 miles out and back of dirt road. About 16 feet wide in most places. It is mostly smooth with some washboard patches and a bit of sand. Not challenging but relaxing. Just what I was wanting.
Never knew it was there! Very clean!!
Hidden gem folks. Check it out if you have the time and want to find a spot to chill.
One of the best kayaking areas in central Oklahoma.
Nice & relaxing
Best place to hike anywhere around the metro area. Nothing like the Wichitas, where I am from. But it is definitely beautiful. I enjoy taking a hike and meditating in my own little spot that I found. I cant wait to go kayaking next year!
Very nice hope next time I can catch some fish
Good trails and good secluded fishing spots
Good place to hike and explore.
A good place to get away from the city with a short drive.
A fun place to get lost in for an hour
Love this slice of country in the middle of city life
Great place to get away from everything in the city. Must walk or kayak in but a great escape into nature.
Extremely pretty park but make sure if you go you put on bug spray the mosquitoes are in full swing
Peaceful, quiet, relaxing, plenty of walking room. Rummaging through the forest here was the first time Ive felt like I was doing something wholesome in a long time.
This place is great for taking the dogs for a long walk and letting them run and explore. However if police show up make sure your dog is leashed and you are holding the leash. It would be super awesome if there were more places like this around the city. As well as places like this where it was ok to keep the dogs off their leash and not get in trouble. But it is a wonderful place to get away in the city. Also have met some really nice people out there enjoying as well
Ugh.. been there not impressed.
It is wild and a great walk through a refuge our dogs love it so many smells and things to chase
Relaxing place, friendly people
I enjoyed my walk thru the woods and saw wildlife along the way.
Reviews sounded great; though I was visiting from out of town and could not find near what I expected. I expected a trail or two to run on. Seems like the main road to the heart of the Refuge was closed and could not find any other way in. Ended up having to run on roads. Found a paved trail leading away from the Refuge.
You may find cool souvenirs and I have your 80s Zippo. This is a fine location to displace neighborhood vermin or take a refreshing hike.
