This was a great field trip for our students and for us teachers. The ladies were so nice and took great care of us. The students enjoyed learning about community helpers as they made puppets and performed a readers theater on the stage. We definitely want to come back next year.
We took our second grade classes to Heritage Theatre for our fall field trip. The children loved learning about community helpers from Granny Blue and Mama Blue. They got to make their own community helper puppet to take home. We teachers felt spoiled as we got to enjoy some treats, rock in rocking chairs, and relax for a bit. We will definitely be back next year.
Interesting trip to say the least. Whatever you do, DONT BE LATE! Ladies were very stressed when we came in late but we were traveling from over an hour away and took a wrong turn. We would have gladly cut some of our activities short to prevent their stressing and rushing. Granny was pretty impatient with the children and quite rude at times. As the teacher, I have to admit, I was afraid of her myself and didnt want to make the wrong move. I absolutely love the concept of Heritage Theatre, it has great potential but it was difficult for students to stay seated and attentive for so long. They had to do exactly as they were told or they were fussed at. When one hispanic student didnt quickly respond when spoken to, he was asked by Granny Do you speak English? and when another student didnt seem to be paying attention Granny said Is she drunk?. I think more positive and patient people could take the idea of Heritage Theatre and be very successful. Im sorry to say that I doubt we will be back.
Honestly this was one of the worst field trips we have ever taken. I know a lot of people and teachers at my school have said this too. Granny Blue was absolutely impatient and rude. When we were there this one girl wasn’t listening and Granny Blue called her drunk and that was really rude. Also right when we walked in we were forced to wear costumes that were really tight. Then every 30 seconds when we were doing are “plays” she yelled CUT and made us start over like we were doing a movie. I felt bad for the teachers Granny Blue kept yelling at them too. Like my teachers said don’t get there LATE Granny Blue would be grumpy and rude. Also the place is plain out creepy there are dolls covering the place and the place was in the middle of nowhere. When we went on this trip in third grade we finally made it to the place and everyone thought that we were turning around because it is in the middle of nowhere. When I went in third grade Granny Blue almost made students cry because she was so strict. I went in third grade and hated this place and I went 2 days ago and I hate it even more. To be positive it did kinda teach us stuff so I will give this place 1 star.
This was by FAR the worst field trip or place I have ever been to my entire life. We were forced to dress up and do a stupid play. We had no choice if we wanted to do it or not. They were very nasty and rude when we were an hour late. We could not use the bathroom until an hour in. This so call granny blue ridge acted like she was a Hollywood film directer. They acted like they knew everything about us and what we were good at. They told us we cant be football players because we cant stop talking. They called one of drunk and asked another student if they even speaked English. DO NOT GO ON A FIELD TRIP THERE.
My kids had a school trip there today 12/4/19 and came home and told me they had the worst experience. And upon some of the things they told me Im very disappointed with this theatre.
My niece just told me about her field trip today here and she said the ladies were extremely rude! Made racist comments and accused them of breaking things which wasn’t true!
My kid went today. He said the people are all very rude. if they misbehaved slightly they were threatened to be put out in the rain.
Absolutely horrible. they were very very rude. i do not recommend whatsoever!!! very impatient and not kid friendly.
Horrible, Granny had the grumps and wasnt paitent at all. She asked one kid if they were drunk and another if they knew how to speak english. Very rude people. Granny was the worst of them all. She was yelling at kids when we first got their because they werent sitting in the right direction. Then she goes on to forget alot of things but that is proably just because ofher age which i can understand. Poor Moma Blue did all she could do to try and keep the show exciting but i don t think that anyone found to entertaining. Even one of the teachers said that they were scared of granny. They were also very unpaitent with us because we were running an hour behind.
Worst field trip EVER. First off I went once in third grade and hated it. Granny Blue was yelling at us all the time because one of the kids in my class asked where the bathroom was. She said that we would all get our turn it a half hour. Well I’m sorry we can’t control when we need to use the bathroom. And then we went today in 6th grade(we went to the mall afterwards and that was the best part of the entire thing) and one girl didn’t know if she knew the answer to a question or not and her hand was kinda going up and down in the air. And Granny blue once again was yelling “ is this girl drunk?” I looked back at the teachers and you could tell they already weren’t pleased. Then later on after being asked a question a hispanic boy just sat there confused and Granny blue said “do you even speak English? Because you don’t act like it.” Everyone was stunned by how rude she was to just a bunch of kids. Also the have us do boring things that younger kids would do in 2nd grade, not 6th. They had us making masks to wear and by that point we were all bored out of our minds. ( not to be rude.) If you are a teacher reading this I highly don’t recommend this place as an option for a field trip.(unless you want to deal with rude instructors.) And Granny blue was not just rude to the kids but even the teachers.
They rude and they ask a hespaniic student if they spoke english it was not worth 25 dollar and we didnt came from all the wilkes just to get yelled at
Good concept. Not good people. They basicly you had no choice to preform,YOU HAD TO.Even if you volintiered to speak,EVERYONE did it with force!they even lied i think about bathrooms. They said after this play we would use the restroom. She waited untill everyone was working on the mask.Even though it was a cool place,Do NOT WASTE your money on it!
The absolute worst field trip that I have ever attended. I have children in grade school and have gone to the majority of their field trips. Never have I ever encountered such rude, disrespectful and nasty people like I did on this trip. I am not one to usually blast or give negative feedbacks, but this trip was definitely an exception and others need to know about what theyre getting themselves into. This was the first time my childs school has ever been to Heritage Theatre and let me assure you, it is their last as it was unanimously agreed by all the teachers. I understand that 6th graders can be loud and rowdy at times, but these kids definitely did not deserve to be treated so badly for the time that they were there. They were so scared to make the wrong move, not be able to speak loud enough, not be able to fold the costumes the way Granny wanted them, or just some other lame reason, that they just could not enjoy their time there at all. I believe that there were a lot of good contents/facts of history that the kids couldve really learned, but when you are constantly being rudely interrupted and then yelled at, its kind of hard to retain anything youve read or heard. Its so hard for me to believe that this place has been in business for as long as it has. I truly believe that these two ladies, running the show, needs to just retire. Truly and honestly, they just dont have the discipline and patience to work with young kids and they should realize that. I applaud the teachers and parents, who went on this trip, for their patience and professionalism to have held it together so well. No one deserves to be treated the way Granny treated those kids. Its just awful and wrong! Understand that your time is done and RETIRE.
I don’t recommend this place at all they were very rude and impatient. One Hispanic kid didn’t understand what granny blue said so she rudely asked “do you even speak English?” And one kid didn’t know an answer and she asked “is she drunk?” What ever you DONT BE LATE they were very impatient when we were one hour late. This place better for 2nd graders but not 6th.After every paragraph in the play they FORCE you to do she would yell “ CUT!” So do not go here unless you like being yelled at.
Not sure why all the negative reviews about an old lady yelling a lot. My stepson went recently for a second grade field trip and he loved it. He couldnt stop talking about how cool the place was. In fact, I only Googled the place because he brought it up again this morning. When I saw the reviews and asked him if there was a mean old lady yelling at him, he seemed genuinely confused and said, No, there was just the nice lady that ran the place.
They were rude and very immpatient, One rule: DONT be late
Dont go on a field trip here.My little brother is in third grade and he went on a field trip here. Hes reliable and smart for someone his age, so I can trust what he told me.He said that the woman there yelled at the kids for almost the whole time they were there, (about 2 hours) said they werent good citizens if they didnt know how many kids their lunch lady had and if they didnt make their own food at home (these are 8 and 9 year olds). She discouraged them from following their dreams which is honestly a TERRIBLE thing to say to a kid. You should not tell a child that their dreams are impossible and they should be a lawyer instead. She also said they shouldnt yawn in public. Among other things. She also yelled at the kids multiple times because they raised their hands to ask questions. Field trips are meant to be learning environments. Kids are SUPPOSED to be curious and they are MEANT to ask questions. And telling a kid off for something that is positive and normal and that they should be doing is really just a horrible thing to do. People that treat kids this way should be ashamed of themselves.I went on a couple of field trips here when I was younger and even though I love history, I never enjoyed it. I dont remember much from my own experience, just that I didnt enjoy it.
One of the ladies told one of our 6th grade students that she was drunk because she didn’t keep her hand raised when asked a question. I was not impressed in the least.
Really just the worst field trip possible. you just sit there and get lectured and yelled at for an hour, recommend keeping your kids home for this one. Waste of money. Im in 8th grade now btw.
Excelent place, the ladies was to patience with the children
This is the worst Field trip you could possibly go on. And if your coming to see a play think again, instead she gives you a stupid script and tells you to read it, and if you read it wrong she gets mad at you. Let me tell you we are a group of 6th graders, and she is standing up telling us we need to think about where we’re going when we die. (Ikr some great inspiration for 11 year olds by none other than granny blue) She even said “ some of u will go to heaven some of you will go to hell”. And let me tell you that’s not the worst of it. She sat up there talking for a hour and in the middle she somehow went from where you go when you die to marriage and this is what she said, and I quote, “marriage must be a boy and a girl so you can play with both parts” yes to a group of 6th graders. If you can get past that teachers, it’s a great field trip! Lastly it looks like some broken down barn. Teachers plz don’t let ur kids suffer, so they don’t have to go what I and many other kids have had too.
My sons second grade class went on a field trip here last week. I was upset at what my son expressed to me when he got home. His school was told by one of the ladies working there, out of the 18yrs shes been working there, this was the worst school ever!! The kids were told not to flush when using the bathroom, not to run the water to wash their hands but to use sanitizer! This kind of behavior should not accepted. These are 7 and 8 year old kids who were excited about a trip. To be told that really upset my child and if the school decided to go there again for a field trip my kids will not participate. Just horrible!!
Granny Blue and staff have been making memorable school field trips for many years.
Terrible!!!!!!!!!!!! I went when I was in fourth grade and it was horrible! Their main focus is the teachers and yelling at the children about how we should keep a journal and if we didnt we were stupid. And Im sorry but when Granny Blue has to say to the teachers in the middle of a 40 minute lecture should I be harder on them we have a problem. Honestly I dont blame the teachers for wanting a day without having to worry about kids and putting them in the care of the workers there but come on now. The kids are being yelled, and while the kids preform a stupid play that not even all the kids get to be in. Also as a fourth grader they have short attention spans and its like she just kept talking and kept talking and if you moved she would point you out and yell at you. So thats as much as Ill say but my little sister was supposed to go and I demanded that she would not go. I wouldnt even pay them a penny to go.
I can personally attest to how hard Granny Blue and Mama Blue work to make this field trip and enjoy and educational experience for the children and teachers who come here. Having been a teacher for years, Granny knows how difficult, stressful, and underpaying teaching can be. This generation (the Entitled Generation I call them) is especially challenging to work with.Granny Blue has traditional values that many do not appreciate these days. She is not afraid to confront issues that many shy away from in fear.I would like to see anyone else in their 80s handle 150 children by themselves. That, in and of itself, takes talent, not to mention bravery.
I need to warn everyone about reading reviews online, even mine. We are all influenced by our day, the weather, how people treat us, etc. Sometimes we go about encouraging others, other times it is in our nature to try and destroy others. This is sad. I am sure there is a basis for the two comments made on this site in the past year. When our children are involved, people can become tigers. However, I want to assure anyone reading this that The Heritage Theater is nothing short of a stellar operation. The need the owners display for teaching children values and passing along knowledge at the same time cannot be paralleled. It is unfortunate that some words may have been taken wrongly, and I am sure if you bring up the problem to the owners, they would appreciate your input so that something like that does not happen again. None of us wants to make each other unhappy. A little confrontation and discussion never hurt any situation. Try it. You might find you like the old lady running the theater. Trust me. She has been named Teacher of the Year several times on local and national levels. Few of us can say the same. Kindness goes a long way. Thank you.
Terrible. We went there for a field trip, and not to mention it was HOT in there.. But anyway we sit down to see a old woman (Mama Blue??) Ask a kid if they were a girl or boy. That embarrassed him, and then started saying we were not good enough to be a football player, game creator, coder or anything.. Then she forced us to do a play about pirates or something and got mad if we forgot our lines, because we learned them for 5 minutes. She also had a time out corner with badly knitten quilts, and made us make bag puppets with no color. She also said we wouldnt pass Drivers Ed (?????) And called us babies. This woman looked about 80. We didnt learn anything, and nobody liked it. I usually like field trips but I felt like just losing it when she talked. I am not influenced by the weather, how I get treated at home, etc. Now I know I wont pass drivers Ed, though! Thanks, Mama Blue for your help and compassion, and I usually like field trips. So many fake reviews, and this costs us 11$. Didnt feed us for six hours.thank you for reading, and avoid this place at all costs. You will wish you had listened to me if you do! Mama Blue, STOP YELLING. All of the kids hate you!! EDIT: She also said we should be lawyers. Im sorry if you have to go. I was STARVING for 6 hours!! She also didnt let us ask questions or use the bathroom. I felt like I was a prisoner!! Ugh.. o~o
I give it one star because granny was very rude and we were late and they almost had a heart attack and granny yelled at a kid who can only speak Spanish and it was really boring i recommend not taking this trip
WASTE OF MONEY I WANT A REFUNd
The worst place I’ve ever been
This place was absolutely awful would rate 0 if could. still depressed 3 years later
Worst trip ever, should have stayed school
This was a waste of both time and $, I want a refund
WORST TRIP I HAVE EVER BEEN ON AND DIDNT EVEN LEARN ANYTHING ALSO BOTH OLD LADIES WERE VERY RUDE TO EVERYONE ILL NEVER GO BACK!!!!!
This place is just Bad.Us kids listened to a woman FORCE us to do a play. Then she told us we were BABYS and said we would never drive, get a job we wanted and we should be a lawer.AND THEN SHE TOLD US NOT TO TELL OUR PARENTS!Our teachers denied it was bad and us kids still go EVERY YEAR.Please do not come here!!!
I DIDNT LIKE IT AT ALL
My first grade son went on a field trip to the Heritage Theatre and said it was boring. As a parent, I would say its a waste of time and money. For $11, my son and his classmates were forced to listen to a woman blabber on for an hour, then they got to color in paper bag puppets. A total rip-off! Schools should be ashamed of sending students here.
SO BAD AND THE people are SO DISRESPECTFUL
BAD BAD BAD
BADBADBADBADBAD
TERRIBLE
Rude people, Terrible experience.
Good people
Going there tomorrow, not looking forward to it.
Absolutely not.
