Great place, keep it going, please donate to help, and keep this place running. It is part of the city and its makes downtown better.
This is a pretty and fun place to go for events. The only thing I dont love about it is that the balcony stairs are really steep. Staff has been extremely nice and helpful every time I have wentl. I have seen several performances here and they have been excellent.
We went to watch the Nutcracker, and it was magnificent. The crew was very nice when showing us our seats, and the dancers were amazing. I wish I could watch it all over again. I highly recommend it.
Beautiful historic venue. Sat in the balcony for the first time. Good view of the stage but less leg room than the orchestra seats. If you are over 6 feet the balcony is not for you
This place was awesome. The staff was great and the acoustics were perfect, we could hear a pin drop.
Stevens Center is a nice location, and an interesting historical place to see a show. The seats are small with close rows, so not most comfortable, but the location is great for eating, and convenient parking
The Nutcracker Ballet was most exquisite. I thoroughly enjoyed the production performed by the North Carolina School of the Arts. However the seats at the Stevens Center are most uncomfortable.
Update 2/15/20: I revisited this venue last night for the 2GNC Comedy Allstars Show (same show from the last visit a year ago). This year the wine and domestic beers were $5 and imports were $6 and that came with a UNCSA cup. You did have to buy a ticket and then get in another line to actually get your alcohol, but the wait wasnt that bad. The show was great! Seats are a little compact, but not terrible. I am sure I will be back again.Old Post from 2019: It is a really nice place. The only issue I had was they make you buy a $2 School of the Arts cup to drink a bottled soda in the balcony! I thought that was a little weird and unnecessary.
We’ve enjoyed several performances at the Stevens Center (UNCSOA Nutcracker, Garrison Keillor) but it always seems to get super warm by the end of the show!
Jellys Last Jam was performed here during The Black Theatre Festival 2019. The parking was convenient and the theatre, though small, was well kept. The legroom was a little lacking though. It is close to the Benton Convention Center and lots of dining.
Pretty theatre but poorly designed and falling apart. We saw the symphony this weekend a d wanted to be first row of balcony, after a 5 story climb to the upper lobby and a death defying walk down the steep stairs to our seats we arrived. It was incredibly hot and we noticed plaster was coming off everywhere. Sad and disappointing.
We went to the Glenn Miller Orchestra concert on July 14. Superb show, fantastic musicians, just a fun time! The sound was great, always enjoy coming to this venue!
This was an amazing performance of the Nutcracker. The employees were helpful and friendly. We prepaid for parking and was given instructions of how to get out of the parking garage. There was someone to show us to our seats. Will definitely go again. They also send emails for a reminder. Great experience.
Steps are very steep and no handrail s in the balçony...a lawsuit waiting to happen. Very attractive and great acustics.
Ive been to several events here over the years. Such a great venue with a lot of Winston-Salem history.
Lovely venue. Great staff. Acoustics were spot on.
We were there for a dance competition. It is a beautiful place. Easy access from hotels. Parking was not an issue on the weekend.
We had seats on the front row of the balcony were afforded me and my daughters a wonderful view of the stage. The production of Nutcracker was superb. I will say the rod are very narrow.
Great slice of history in Winston Salem. Gorgeous theatre and great entertainment!! Perfect place to start of end your evening with so many great restaurants and bars near by.
I attended UNCSA Dance Concert here as a first time visitor. The theater is perfectly proportioned for good views, especially from the lofty balcony, from where I enjoyed a wonderful performance. I look forward to future performances here.
Great place to watch my daughters violin recitals.
Loved it! Husband and I saw Boys II Men with The Piedmont symphony, and had a great time.
Plays and concerts they offer. Beautiful venue
Saw Flor de Toloache! Amazing performance!
Pretty cool staff, good theater, good actors good location
It was very nice on the inside although little parking
Very beautiful venue, seating was very tight.
Beautiful venue!! Love attending functions there. Close parking and dining within short walks!
Good sound system, comfortable seats. Staff were helpful for directing people to seats. The temperature for the performance was comfortable. The parking is really the only thing. Not enough.
An outstanding performance of La bohème!! Every performer was well suited and with superior voices, excelled in their roles! Beautifully conducted, with great sets and truly superior voices and acoustics. It was a fantastic and moving experience.
Beautiful theater. My daughter and I attended The Nutcracker and it was a lovely performance in a lovely venue! We will definitely be back!
Beautiful stage and hall. Not too big, but a good size, and great acoustics. I saw a singer/songwriter play there, and it felt intimate, even for a fairly large space. The way they manage snacks and drinks is a little odd and inconvenient, but that is not a big deal. Just be aware that if you want a glass of wine, youll need to buy the adult - sippy cup as well
Great cozy venue for an evening out.
I love the Stevens Center and the show we saw was excellent, however, they didnt seem to be expecting the crowd. We got there 30 min. early as advised and it was filling up..stood in line for a glass of wine..had to buy a 2.00 cup for a 8.00 glass of wine..that was fine, after my husband pd she said were out of red. Told us to go upstairs to get it...well that was impossible..it was so packed you could not move. Plus how would the people upstairs believe we pd for our wine with no receipt. Basically we pd 20. for 2 cheap empty cups..this was not handled well. Shame on the girl that sent us away without giving back our money...wont make that mistake again.
Went on the 19 of July to see my Granddaughter Dance. Very nice.
The musical play Jellys Last Jam was great.
Saw BOYZ II MEN & IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL SHOW!
So loved this place!!Great b-b-q and the collard greens were tops!
Wonderful, old, historical theater! Great stage, sound, lights and staff. The only reason for 4 stars versus 5 is because the seats are very tight. Someone of larger size or built will find it very difficult to be comfortable or possibly fit into the seat. Having said that, they are very accommodating and offer chairs as well as areas for handicap seating.
Nice intimate venue, not a bad set to be had. Comfortable to sit in too
Good sound. All actors are wonderful.
Needs to remodel the seating for comfortability and space. Cleanliness was not up to par that day
Beautiful! Amazing production of the Nutcracker- perfect for my daughters first ballet. Very courteous and helpful staff as well.
Nice seats. Easy to get in and out of on the aisle. Clean bathrooms. Nice, helpful attendants. No parking lot. You must pay for parking in one of the local Parking decks and wall. Its not a far wall at all though.
Beautiful venue with plastered architecture/designs that are typical in theaters in Chicago/NYC but you dont see much in NC. Attended for UNCSA performance. Mezzanine view is more than adequate to see and sitting close to the stage does not strain neck.
Been going here for 25 years to All-State concerts. Still a beautiful place to see and here a concert.
Saw Anna and Elizabeth tonight. Saw art in the making. Very enjoyable evening. I have had very good experiences here in all types of art.
The Stevens Center has great acoustics, but needs renovation to better accommodate the handicapped, which it is currently undergoing. The Center hosts wonderful productions - especially the symphony and the opera. Go to as many performances as you can!
The Stevens Center has the charm and character of bygone years. The intricate and refined detailing is all around. The superb acoustics make it perfect for live performances. There is not a bad seat in the house.
The waiting area was packed before being let upstairs. Great atmosphere to see play/musical.
Beautiful site! I remember going there as a child when it was a movie theatre and blacks had to walk up 85 steps to sit in the balcony. Really nice to sit downstairs now.
This was my first time here, and my husband and I saw The Nutcracker! It was a wonderful ballet, but the balcony seating was very uncomfortable. There is not enough room to put anything (coat, purse, etc.). For those sitting in the middle of the row, everyone had to get up and move out of the row to let them in. Its a tight squeeze! The snacks sold in the lobby were extremely expensive, and they only allow water in the theater. Otherwise, it was a great experience and we would go back!
Great venue for arts. If you love art, this is the place in the heart of Winston Salem NC.
Beautiful. Great theater for a concert.
Wonderful ambience to attend cultural events. Parking within easy walking distance.
Wonderful performance of the Nutcracker.
While there, the front was under some major construction, but I would not let that taint my experience because a facelift to the exterior only shows progress and not a permanent issue. The inside was very well kept and the staff was amazing getting everyone to their seats. Inside the audio and performers were always heard without a problem, even for those of use sitting in the last rows. The angles the chairs are at, I did not have to worry about seeing through a person and could see the stage very well.
We saw La Cenerentola tonight, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The singers were wonderful, the orchestra sounded great, and staging added a lot to the overall experience. We have always enjoyed the operas we have attended at the Stevens Center.
Seating in balcony is excellent for visibility and sound. (Prepare for a lot of up and down stairs walking). This necessitates a very steep angle for stairs. Not for the fainthearted, or those with balance issues. NCSA usher was most helpful in negotiating those stairs.Center balcony seats are a bit cramped. Beautiful place, undergoing repairs while being used
My daughter has her lesson here during the week. I never knew that the building was full of practice areas and offices. It is an arm of the school of the arts. Fascinating!!
Great place to see high quality shows at a great price
Amazing Beautiful... music
Beautiful historic center that is part of the North Carolina School of the Arts. I have attended many events here including: Opera Classical music concerts, dance recitals and much more. If you are in Winston-Salem stop by and enjoy the beautiful sounds and sights.
We all had an elegant family outing. Stevens Center is a world unto its own.
Top shelf venue serving quality!
Balcony very cramped for legs. Seen Mass. Very good talent wasted on a bad Bernstein production.
Beautiful venue, excellent seating where everyone can see and hear the action on the stage. Easy to get to, parking decks available, no problem walking to it.
Such a beautiful venue!
Always a great time
Amazing display of the arts.
Friendly and helpful staff. Great show!
They have some great shows here.Parking can be a little tricky since its downtown, but theres a parking deck nearby if you dont mind paying.Staff is very friendly.Seating is not terribly comfortable and is a little cramped. The theatre is beautiful.
The seating needs updating, so badly
A rare treat. Renovated beautiful theatre, amazing atmosphere. Some of the best performances in a local setting. If you have never been here you need to schedule a weekend trip. Either with the opera or the UNCSA performances. Yes, the seats were designed for an audience of 1929. many years ago.
A favorite venue for anything performed! Classic old theater that has superior acoustics from any seat. Intimate yet spacious.
Nice place for concerts. A lot of stairs to climb though.
I have seen several shows at the Stevens Center performed by UNCSA performers like the Nutcracker. I love the feel of the place no matter if you are seated in the balcony or right near the stage. It is a cultured experience where you can get dressed up and attend events like several decades ago. Clean restrooms and easy ticket ordering process at the box office or online.
We had leg room here
Great looking historic landmark with great acoustics. The ushers are very helpful and polite. I did have trouble when I called the main number. The staff member was rude and inconsiderate. But I persevered and ordered my ticket online. For a fairly cool evening the theater was uncomfortably warm. Best not to wear a blazer unless you like being hot. Seating is cramped for taller people. There is no free parking in this part of town and you will have a bit of a walk but its ok. I will probably return.
Union was so good! And so humbling.
Wonderful show but leg room between rows are cramped.
Chairs are small for a tall guy like me. Im 6 2.
Comfortable seating, intimate environment great acoustics.
Rich acoustics. Beautiful old-world architectural charm. Obscenely long, steep trek to the balcony. If you’re not a seasoned marathoner, stick to the auditorium seats ... your heart, lungs and legs will thank you for it!
Cool small theatre. Overpriced drinks.
A beautiful old theater in Downtown Winston-Salem.
Live music! Great forum! Difficult access for the disabled.
Beautifully organized, large spacious theatre, helpful staff and clean restrooms
I have attended numerous events here and performed here as well. A little bit tight, but overall an excellent venue.
Beautiful facility. Would recommend arriving earlier for the ticketing line, can be quite long (out-the-door) fifteen minutes prior to performance.
Its a cool place with interesting architecture. Seats are very small and close together, so it can be a little uncomfortable
Amazing acoustics, especially in the balcony section
