Not a bad museum but not a great one either. Another reviewer mentioned allotting 2 hours to go through, which is way too much - you can easily go through it in 30mins to an hour. Docent could care less that we were there.
$5 admission. Plan on 2 hours.Lots of great artifacts - more great artifacts, better quality displays, and more interesting than most local museums. Antique farm equipment in a display/setting how it would be used, several antique buggies / carriages. A large and very high quality cave with artifacts to explain archeology). A section representing a shoe shine / barber shop: complete with all furnishings and equipment! Followed by a bank, dentist office, pharmacy and bakery: each filled with period implements. Quite a few display cabinets, each with a specific point (local baseball 1890+, early transportation, schools, etc.). Upstairs displays are oriented by decade, with some on a specific item: oxen, civil war, stern wheelers (one case holds an awesome scale model). I was shocked at the quality and sheer volume of interesting items, the high-budget exhibits, and condition of the artifacts and building.
This place had always amazed me when I was a kid every once in a while I still go back please me and aweeeeeee.
Its very nice to see small communities take the initiative to not only preserve their history but present them in a fashion that is not only well organized but also interesting to go through. The admission is quite cheap ($5) considering that this historical society is operating in what appears to be a newly renovated building. The bulk of the museum is contained in a beautiful historic brick building with a main floor exhibit space and second floor gallery. This is a nice place to visit if you have 1-2 hours to spend and want to get a better understanding of Winonas history!
Handmade Neighborhood Sale.. I purchased some unique finds for Christmas gifts AND got an awesome FREE Winona County Historical Society Calendar!
When I go there it is fun to see what they have there and the people are nice. It is fun to see how Winona has grown.
Winona Countys history is presented in lovely displays in a great old historic building downtown. Also has current displays of local interest (or work of local artisans) which changes periodically.
Beautiful building with interesting displays about the history of the area.
Awesome gift shop & great events for the whole family!
Interesting changing displays in the main area and rest of the museum is great history of Winona County.

Very nice exhibits and the lady working today was so sweet and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed the walk through history as well as the special furniture exhibit.
Stunning collection! We spent hours here. Beautiful new building.
Surprisingly top-notch history center here. From the reuse of the armory building to the wide array of artifacts and exhibitions, this center has a bit of everything.
