Amazing view from the top. The hike is steep in some parts but worth the walk. Our kids did it no problem. They loved trying to climb all the rocks. Highly recommend to visit.

If you are a rock climber you can safely get on top of the loaf for a spectacular view of Winona. The locals were very friendly and also informed us that the spot light opens up the North face of the rock for night climbing! Beautiful location with easy and well marked access.

I hiked this in the rain, for future reference... Nobody should hike this in the rain, it isnt properly set up to prevent erosion, so this trail is subjected to greater erosion during wet/muddy periods....Having said that the trail was absolutely beautiful and if you get a chance to hike it, dont miss it. The structure on top is beautiful as well as the sandstone beneath it.

The hike up there is a bit of a scramble, but it only takes about 20 minutes. Dont bring toddlers and dont try it if you are elderly, morbidly obese or afraid of heights. Garvin Heights will be a much safer bet for you if any of those conditions apply. This place is not patrolled, and there is pretty much zero effort to maintain safety. DO NOT TRY TO CLIMB THE VERTICAL WALLS OF THE loaf UNLESS YOU ARE AN EXPERT MOUNTAINEER!!! Proceed at your own risk, and do not say you werent warned. Oh and watch for snakes.Having said all that, the views at the top of the bluff are quite spectacular. Its well worth the effort.

Wow incredible views. The path starts when you find the cement steps in front of a small red house. It worth it when you are on the summit.

Good small hiking trail. At spots its a little narrow if you dont like hights. Its actually a longer trail than we thought. The main trail does have 2 other trails that come of of it. Good view of Winona at the top.

Nice walk, views r awesome ... Interesting history from an old Man river town ... actually Winona itself has a ton of history with lots of immigrants and stories about how the town evolved .

Great, short hike. We took a family reunion group up the mountain. It took about 20 minutes to hike up to the base of the rock formation. It was an easy hike.

The new path up is nice but still has a single track section. The entrance is easier to access as well.

The routes are very beginner friendly, but the rock is pretty chaussy(sp?)I hope its around for a long time.We tried to figure out how to get to the top but couldnt find any bolts leading up to the top chains. Perhaps a clip stick would do the trick

Awesome hiking spot to climb up. Great trails and overlook at the top. Also, rock climbing at the top of the bluff that is leading climbing or top rope climbing. Free climbing is doable but dangerous.

Sugar loaf is one of the main attractions of Winona. One must at least one time go up there before sunrise and sit with friends till it gets warm and bright, overlooking all of Winonas beauty, overseeing all the lakes and greenery. Such a blissful experience.

This is the perfect stop for your first out door climb. The routs are pretty easy and there is plenty to keep you busy for a day. There are a couple bolts on the north face to practice tying anchors on too.

Although there isnt an official trail up to Sugar Loaf the one that people have created up there is more than sufficient to get you to the top. The view of Winona is fantastic and you can almost get all the way to the top of the rock itself. Overall an awesome way to spend a beautiful Saturday in the summer.

Very cool view, hard to find the path that takes you to the top. Rock climbing can be done at the top with set bolts. The path is behind the water building on burns valley road. It is set back from the road and can be easily missed

Sugar Loaf is the Li’l Sebastian of Winona, Minnesota, however, less endearing to an outsider. At night it is lighted up as if it’s the Washington Monument. Seen from a far, Sugar Loaf looks like a hard nipple. I hope one day I come to love it as much as the locals do.

I went to Sugar Loaf back in 2009 while visiting the girlfriend who was attending Winona State at the time. The loaf itself was awesome as the hike to it was real easy with parking near by as well. The loaf isnt very difficult to climb either and you need to seriously considering climbing it if you are out there as the view from the top is breath taking.
