The Good Zoo is a fun place to come to, bring the kiddos and just have a real enjoyable time! Boo at the Zoo could have honestly gone a lot better! Not many animals out in their exhibits and the weather was a bit chilly too (we went on 10/24/20, but all in all, it was worthy every penny just to see my boys having a grand ole time and enjoying the day with smiles on their faces! What more could a Momma ask for!
Excellent experience at Ogelbay Park in Wheeling, WV! The people are the friendliest people on the planet ! We did a mini girls trip and loved every minute. So much to do and see with such gorgeous idyllic surroundings. Perfect walking paths where even the deer are friendly. The swan paddle boats were a hoot . Great restaurants with scrumptious dishes too. The most relaxing trip in a long time .
Very dis satisfied with our stay. Beautiful on the outside. They did refund me for most of the trip due to so many issues. But the lakefront is a road above some hills that overlook a little lake. Maybe 1 room with view might get to see it we didnt until we walked to it.. The buildings are very confusing where to go when you get in.. Far walks.. Do not recommend to elderly without a mobile means. My mom had a hard time getting to anything.. Far and no where to sit. Porches are shared with neighbors. Staff is great to accommodate you .. They give a map.. But inside is just not for older peeps or disabilities. I think they need to really put together better accommodations for the money they request.
Been going to Oglebay for family weekends once a year for 25 years. My boys are grown now but still look forward to this weekend every year! We love the cabins in Spidel, the lights, the gift shops, the lodge. We have some many great memories there!
We went for a weekend for a wedding, which was absolutely beautiful! If youre looking for an outdoor wedding, you have to check it out! We went during the fall and there was so much fall fun activities for families with kids of all ages! We cant wait to come back with kids again! We are excited to see the Christmas light display, which many of our family members have already said how outstanding it is! We will definitely be returning!
Its a pretty cool place, neat genuine log cabins with fireplaces. Pretty rustic though. I mean very basic furnishings, flooring, and lighting. Could be amazing with nicer furnishing/lighting.The Goldenrod cabin we were in was quite dirty. Cobwebs everywhere. The bathroom and the beds were the only thing clean in the whole place. Everything else hadnt been deep cleaned in a very long time. The breakfast up at the resort building was pricey but delicious!
Loved it, the lights were just beautiful..it was a little chilly but enjoyed the evening...I fell over by the mansion but thankfully wasnt hurt, just a little sore today..People came running to help and were so kind..So many offered to help get me up @ care for me..There was a nurse that attended me that works in an ER, and so many wanted to help, even children...All,were so kind and I appreciated it!!!! Looming forward to next year!!!!
Not worth it!! Literally took over three hours to get through and the displays werent that great at all!! I find it hard to believe that this is one of the best in the country. I dont usually give such negative reviews....this was not worth the time and effort.
Traffic is understandable for a Saturday night but you need a traffic cop or 2. Its like mad max at every intersection. Also bring a Gatorade bottle, a coffee pot. And sunglasses for the opposing cars with their ultra 80000watt high beams. 2 hr wait to get in.. Christmas lights are lit though. Chea boi..
Awesome Christmas display of lights! We go every year! Appreciate the creativity! Make a memorable night!
A good place for family, they have trails, a small lake, put put, paddle boat, sky trail, a decent winter lights display, pool, dining, golf. Very scenic and relaxing its a good place to visit often. They also have a small zoo. Its not the best but its not the worst. It is a small zoo but nice to see.
The Oglebay Hotel is a nice hotel and the room was clean and the mattress was very comfortable. We stayed only one night and I was a little disappointed that the room did not have a microwave and we tried to adjust the air conditioning in the room and werent able to make the room cooler (87 degrees outside). The staff in the Byrd Addition dining room was a little cold and unprofessional also. Waitress was fantastic at our table for breakfast though. You also need better signage outside the hotel when it is late at night to find your building.
Nice Christmas lights and fun shopping! We come every year!
I grew up in WV but never stayed at Oglebay. We went for a wedding a few weeks ago, and I was extremely disappointed. There were two $200 dinners charged to our room inadvertently, and I had to call them at least 7 times in order to get it fixed. Moreover, the wedding planning staff was basically nonexistent. As a bridesmaid, it was clear the staff was in no way willing to help with any portion of the wedding.
Everything was great until !! We did the mansion tour front desk worker name was gene as we came into the buliding and was putting are masks on he yelled at us .. being me and my husband and two little girls about wearing mask that we already had on then he proceeded to yell and hollar at my husband while he was walkimg up to the front desk to pay to pay for the tour told him to get back as he pointed his finger at him while he was trying to pay for the tour because he did not tell him to move up closer to the deskAll while are two little girls were standing there very!!!!! Unprofessional and rude to treat a paying customer that way husband spoke with jerry the mason manger hopefully that employee will be repalced
I had forgotten how nice this resort is for groups and gatherings. We played the 3 courses and had a great time. The resort was really busy with weddings. We did enjoy the outside patio and fire pits one of the evenings.
Beautiful place to getaway for the weekend.
Loved the lights!!! Cinderellas castle was my favorite. The sound effects are great. Puts me in the Christmas spirit
Wonderful staff, very family oriented. I love the historical feel. The deer are one of our favorites, they are so friendly! I wish I had one of the beautiful, giant hanging baskets at my home!! Our only dislike is that the pools close at 7pm and the restaurant on site doesnt have a big selection, especially for kids. Oh, and we had the air conditioner set at 60 the whole time, it kept the room just cool enough. But, we will definitely return!!
Very beautifully decorated, some of the light displays were very outdated and hard to make out what it was. The buffet was very good flavor but the food was a little cold. Overall we enjoyed ourselves
Had a nice memorial day weekend there. Did a lot of hiking on the trails. Pools not open yet so that was disappointing on a hot weekend, and they dont seem to have a full staff for the activities. Im from PA, so it was nice to sit down in a restaurant and be served. Employees were friendly. We stayed overnight but unless youre a golfer, u can see and do most stuff in a day.
So disappointed in this place. Have heard the advertising for years. The grounds were amazing and well groomed. The rest was less than I expected, way less. Its run down and dated inside. The room was disgusting. It looked like it was the 80s in the room and around the hotel. Our room had dirty stained carpets, a commercial flushing toilet, a broken rusty shower head with a curtain that didnt fit. You had to close the toilet lid to get to the flusher. I used my foot to flush. They were busy. You cant blame an old, dated facility on a pandemic because you have updated since 1980 or 1990. Oglebay Resort should be ashamed. I would only recommend them for a day trip to the pool or something. Even the food wasnt good in the bar and grill.
Great family fun! Budget friendly and activities for everyone. From swimming to visiting a museum.....cant wait to go back
We absolutely loved our stay in the west wing. .We spent a night here after a week in NYC on our honeymoon. We needed a relaxing night and we got that plus some here . The spa was absolutely amazing. Our room was perfect, clean, cozy and we had a balcony that overlooked the golf course. We also enjoyed the pool and hot tub. Everything was clean and beautiful. We loved it. Breakfast buffet was also amazing. Although they probably need a second chef on the omelette bar. Didn’t get one cause the line was so long. We had dinner in the west wing as well. It was really good and adorable. We already made plans to come back for our one year anniversary.
Loved the zoo and train ride and my granddaughters did also.
Great say with grandchildren! Boo @ the ZooWas perfect, very nicely done. Cotton candy was a big hit !!
Rustic charm with all the current technology. 3 fun 18 hole golf courses and a par 3 course. Deer and wildlife everywhere throughout the property. Nice paved walking paths with hills and scenery.
The lights are always such a nice time. My kids loved that there were some new features and going to the Good Zoo was an absolute must.
Been here many times. Experience is always fun. Rooms are a little dated and check in was way behind our last visit. I would be more problematic, but with the pandemic it is completely understandable. Nice collection of hiking trails and sightseeing nearby.
The birdie package was phenomenal. Couldnt have picked two better days in November. Two rounds, nights stay, indoor pool, and breakfast buffet.
I asked for early check in and wasnt given it because it was being cleaned and it was taking so long for extra cleaning measures for covid.. All that of is fine but what cleaning?!?! There was long strands of dried hair on the shower walls and 2 of them shampoo/body gel provided by them was half empty. Someone did a really awful job of cleaning and honestly how do you not changed out the soap you provide. Im not one to be scared about covid but this was just awful.
Beautiful place!!! Deer are beautiful to see
Staff was very uncompromising with a late checkout of one hour. The room was pretty disgusting...I actually cleaned stains off the wall while here for a week. The scenery is nice.
Smaller but very well maintained zoo.Nice exhibits and very kid friendly.Even nicer without the COVID restrictions.
Beautiful place winter, spring, summer or fall
My son and I visit Oglebay a few times a year... Halloween and Christmas. Always have a wonderful time.
I never leave reviews but I feel like I need to after my experience. My cousin recently had a wedding here and although the outdoors was beautiful that was about the only thing that was. My family members and I arrived just prior to 1 pm on a Saturday as we live 5 1/2 hours away, knowing we were early but hoping they might have our rooms ready prior to what we thought was a 3 pm check in. We were informed that our rooms were not ready yet (which was ok) but also that they were not guaranteed to be ready until at least 4-4:30 pm. The wedding ceremony started at 4:30 across the complex. Our rooms weren’t ready in time for those who arrived Saturday afternoon to get ready in time for the ceremony and therefore alot of close family members missed the ceremony. When we did get to our room the AC wasn’t working well enough to keep things cool and the unit in the room was just as bad. The shower was also not up to par and water temp was either freezing or scolding. Those who did get to attend the ceremony said it took place right next to the outdoor pool and the laughing/shouts and music of the guests at the pool were all that could be heard during the wedding ceremony taking place right next to the pool. Very disappointing for a family hoping to have an uninterrupted intimate wedding for family and friends. The next morning 7 of us decided to eat at the breakfast buffet which charged $16.95 a person and unfortunately the food was less than great. Upon check out I noticed I had been charged and additional $115.18 in addition to the $170 I had already paid through a third party reservation months ago. When I called to see why I was charged that extra charge they tried to say it was because I had booked and paid through a third party company (aka Expedia) yet never in all the years I’ve used Expedia have I ever been charged additional by the hotel. They said they would “look into it” but did not offer to follow up with me to let me know if it would be credited. So I plan to call back in a few days if it’s not credited. Overall it was a big disappointment from a place we all thought would be fantastic. It’s clear that the only way it would work for a Saturday wedding for out of town guests is to book from Friday to Sunday. We could not make that work unfortunately because Of not being able to take a day off work. Would not recommend to others unfortunately.
The festival of lights were beautiful. Seen several live deer roaming around the resort
Lots of interesting things and the zoo was small but great
Really wish we had places like this near Indianapolis, IN.This was my second time spending the weekend with some friends and it was just as great as it was last time. There was four rooms with 2 queen/full size beds in each, and 2 bathrooms. They were all clean and well stocked with toiletries. It’s definitely a place I’d recommend to throw a party with friends. You could blast your music without fearing of disturbing the neighbors: isn’t that just great ?Anyway, there’s also a full kitchen with a fridge & microwave.I wish I took pictures of the place but completely forgot to do it. I’ll try to remember that next day, because I’m definitely going back !
This is a great place to visit. Nice associates. I had a perfect day their and the encounters with the big raptors specially AMELIA the bald eagle.
Best place we have went to in a long time. Definitely will be going again very soon
Cleanliness, friendliness of the staff, beautiful views. Everything was well done and perfect
Great place for a wedding. I never went to anything else, but I hear it looks nice
Came for my Brothers wedding. Worst stay of my LIFE. And many others of the wedding party. Had to switch rooms, terrible customer service (if you can even find them). Food was so disappointing. I will litterally never recommend anyone staying here and definitely will not return.
Such a wonderful place with so much to do! Absolutely love it!
Stopped to check out the hiking trails. NOT dog friendly! Dogs only allowed from October to March. Would have been nice to know beforehand i.e. post on website. Beautiful grounds, but geared for retirees / elderly, my opinion only. At least the lodge area. Very disappointed.
We are in the k building nice room but Small very clean a bit of a hike to the room from where you have to park walk up Small Hill To The Room Only one chair on the patio pool area sauna and hot tub is Closed game room is open!
Enjoyed the Festival of Lights and Good Zoo. Wilson Lodge is beautifully decorated for Christmas.
I love it . it gets better and better every year
This is one of the most beautiful parks in Wheeling and I can’t wait to visit again. The staff are very helpful
Great place light trolly is the best. Lodge is amazing
Nice place great for little kids not to big very enjoyable
Wonderful Zoo Wonderful employees and amazing animals! They did an outstanding job for zoo boo!
Nice place to visit with the family. Clean and friendly. Lots of activities for the family. The pool was fantastic and the cabins were clean and modern. Only gave 4 stars since some of the paddle boats were broken, the food was just ok, and the crafts for the kids were just coloring sheets.
12 guys (golf trip) stayed in huge 8 bedroom cabin... great time!!
I always like coming up to see the lights at Oglebay. This year did not disappoint.!
Very nice, clean, beautiful pools, lots of activities for families, really nice golf coarse, scenery is amazing! Restaurants are reasonable! Great place to stay a weekend or longer
Great time and place for families highly recommend spending your day here! Prices are very reasonable
I fish there. They have huge catfish, bass, etc. If you are not into fishing you can play miniature golf, boating, swimming pool or nature walks. Tons of stuff for hole family and beautiful scenery.
I booked the room for my wife so she and my stepdaughter could have a nice bonding trip. The room was fine as were some of the amenities, especially the pool and zoo. Unfortunately, the people in the room next door partied loudly both nights. A call was made to the desk but no resolution was made. The front desk were unhelpful, especially when it came to giving directions. The fire alarm rang for several minutes really early in the morning. The Booking.com site said nothing about the pool closing early. No furniture was on the balcony and, when requested, never came. They had fun but were also deeply disappointed.
Could be better, lots of empty space to work with.
Amazing place
First time visitor and hope to be back soon. What a wonderful getaway for our family. Great amenities, fabulous views, plenty of activities to stay busy.
Really a beautiful day. Clean, socially distancing observed in shops and train ride. Masks used in all indoor spaces. Very nice experience.
So much to do in such a small area its perfect! Easily spent a couple days here with non stop activities for the whole family.
Soooo beautiful! Cabins are lovely and everyone has been fantastic!
First time visiting in the summer because we usually do Christmas as Oglebay. A lot to do outside and very clean
We stayed in the Kline Wing which I think is one of the older sections of the lodge. The room was clean and the staff was wonderful.
Its a great place to enjoy nature. Also, they have great activities and. Amos for the kids. Pretty nice pool too.
Nice small zoo and pool area with splash pad. Could use more animals
It turned out to be a rainy day for our family reunion, but the Driehorst Shelter at Oglebay kept us dry and we had a great time. The area was clean and well taken care of. Shortly after arriving, an Oglebay employee stopped by to see if everything was satisfactory.
Positive: The area and view. Negative: Our room smelled of mold and mildew. The shower drain had gross hair and it molded the wooden sink. There was stains on carpet and the bench seat too. The only good thing about the place was the outside views and the flat screen tv.
I love this place, fun for the whole family. It stormed our first day here and it didnt matter, my kids and I still had fun with all the activities at Wilson Lodge. Very accommodating, clean and all inclusive.
The museum was amazing
Very nice course. Hilly terrain is challenging. Ends up with last 2 holes being very easy but challenging.
I didnt even into see half of the lights because I couldnt find them. Its spread out in multiple locations, and the lines were crazy
We took a weekend vacation here last summer and had a great time. Rooms were very nice and very clean. Bathrooms in the lodge were impressive with large shower and multiple shower heads. Perfect for families as there are lots of activities such as concerts, paddle boats, playgrounds, family friendly restaurants... plus, in the summer they offer a family package deal that includes all of these!
Outside rooms need a better cleaning, but still very nice. The grounds are always amazing.
The best Christmas experience ever! The light show is amazing ; I recommend using the Trolley. The Spa for massages and facials is fantastic. I also recommend spending a little more on a suite. Best room and more space.
Just left. Great relaxing place to go, for a day trip or longer stay. You wont find scenery thats more beautiful! Cant wait till everything opens up again!!! Bring plenty of carrots & apples for the deer!!
An all-time waste of time. A lot of time.
The outdoor activities are great! Resort could have been cleaner.
Stayed in a cabin the weekend of 7/31. Were told we could have early check in only to find out, they let the previous guests have a late check out. Then, after spilling some ice, wiped the floor only to find our towel we used was BLACK! Then a day later, we found bed bugs. This is their level of cleanliness during COVID! SCARY! Explore your options before booking a trip here!
The grounds around the resort are well maintained, the rooms are little out-dated but the price reflects this. All in all a great family get away.
Beautiful lil piece of a place in this area
Oglebay Park has many things to do: swim, golf, mini golf, playground, picnic shelters, paddle boats, fishing, cabins, Wilson Lodge:wedding venues, restraunts, exercise, hot tub, Christmas light show every night (mid November to early January) with free entertainment & cookies and coffee during the weekends at this time. Free concerts weekly during the summer months. Fireworks around the 4th of July. Skiing if theres enough snow. Im sure theres more that Im forgetting.
Amazing! Dont hesitate to visit and stay the weekend!!!
There are so many things to do at Oglebay! I love to go to the zoo and their pool is really nice.
The governor has mandated everyone wear masks in public buildings And Walmart is letting people shop there with no mask.
Beautiful walking paths and hiking trails with plenty of hills to get the heart rate up
Pretty views, nice pool but service was lacking. Waited till 6pm for our room to be ready and food was just ok.
Great family fun!
It is Christmas your around here and a great adventure for running multiple paths around the resort with non-stop scenery. The spa and sauna were made for companionship best time to go was January
Its amazing place beautiful as ever. Been coming here since I been 4. Im 19 right now. We have never had any problems here. If something is wrong they come out and fix it. They care for us and others a lot
Boys had fun. Especially swimming. We plan to go again. Probably do a cottage next timeStayed at lodge the first time.
