A very pretty not so frill, but all be it fairly large and another fantastic free nature filled escape located just about an hour away from the city, set in the western burbs. It’s a great spot to step out for a stretch and step away from the screen. No beaches to wade away but great hiking or catch a planed park district event or go geocaching. Loads to take in and lots of places to play. It’s a great spot to spend an hour or afternoon. Read all the signs 1st. Good spot for kiddos ( that is with proper supervision of course as there is a large body of open water accessible) please note there’s really no places to go for help immediately near by after 4pm or people working there. Just always practice caution as you would with any body of water or open water source. It’s also shorter to access from the office easy side on Lincoln. It’s behind the house off the drive way side.No major stairs or hills that I saw. Lots of dust/dirt kicked up though and wood chips galore. I’d also say to Bug spray all day if your gonna play, IL has ticks for days. Unfortunately we went to grab a nature kit but had to cut it short due to a weirdo at the park. So we will have to wait to add a few more pics here on a later date, as this visit was sadly cut short after a man acting all sketchy suddenly showed up hiding and parking like in a tree and stayed there watching us unload the car (light hair late 30-40’s crusty looking white guy not properly dressed for a run or a hike ( looked like he walked off a job site, not out for a jog) nor did he fit on the the mini teal “Vespa” like moto scooter he rolled up by a good 50 or so lbs. but hey who am I to talk to personal tastes, I’m just saying. We reloaded a booked it out quick cause this mama don’t play.Again, just always be vigilant of your surroundings and stay safe especially in the woods. Now this is not to detour as we will definitely be back very soon in daytime hours when it’s staffed and hopefully my awesome 6’3” wall of hubby can come too. So grab friend go and get outside into nature. This is one spot you should tally go!Read more see our links @ thechicagomom.com
Quiet nature area with woodchip trails connecting the Illinois Prairie Path with the Dupage County Complex and the downtown Wheaton area. Lots of birds, deer and other wildlife. You can walk the circuit of trails in about 20 or 30 min.
If you are looking for a place to run long distances, enjoy nature, or simply to just find a hang out spot with your friends, this is where YOU need to go! There is a various amount of trails that interfere with the best spot of the whole area. The marsh! It is connected by amazing bridges and complemented by beautiful scenery. Please visit this place!
A lot of fun, a little exercise and Wildlife galore. Bring a camera, and good hiking shoes, but watch the little ones around the water as the piers have no railings and uneven surfaces.
The Lincoln Marsh is a hidden gem in Wheaton, Illinois. If you like to read those little signs which explain a little bit about what you are seeing or the history of the area, they have some of these. There are a few picnic tables set out and an outhouse nearby. Great place to enjoy nature.
Perfect for a short walk and a chance to escape the suburbs for a few hours.
Beautiful trails and a wooded play area for the kids to play on.
This place is super awesome. A hidden gem. If you have a stroller be warned its all wood chip paths. I didnt have a issue but some strollers definitely would. You can see lots of wild life and its a really nice hike
Great trails and lots of wildlife to see in this tucked away area. Walk, run or bike. Good for all ages.
This is a wonderful location for taking in nature. I normally do my running at the marsh and enjoy listening to the birds. I often see people doing bird photography.
Nice walking path with lots of shade and bountiful wildlife. Spotted deer, rabbits, squirrels, raccoons and turtles. Also at dusk there are plenty bats to be seen.
Pleasant to walk here. Bike, stroller and dog friendly. Limited parking but it has never been an issue. We take our family all year long to get it and explore. Great afternoon adventure!
Flat trail, mostly shaded/wooded, good place to see pond wild life.
We had so much fun here, exploring the marsh, hiking, and looking for turtles and frogs (we found several of both!). This is a very fun place to spend several hours, were already planning our next trip here. FYI: there are only portable toilets at both parking lot entrances, so you may want to plan ahead if you have little ones!
Nice peaceful walk.
I went here to take wedding photos. There are animal bones and various interesting artifacts. In warmer weather, this would be a fine place to spend some time walking amongst some curated nature. The marsh itself is full of living animals.
Beautiful and peaceful place with nice walking trails.
A gem. please go, you will love it.
Nice spot for a relatively quick hike. We encountered ducks, a turtle, and even a green heron.
Love this place. Been coming here since 1991, parts have change but the serenity stays the same. There are walking paths throughout the marsh totaling about 1 1/2 miles. Its wood chips paths so easy on the joints. Lincoln marsh butts up to the Illinois prairie path too
Relaxing spot for a walk. Enjoy the oak knoll for some shade.
This is one of the greatest hidden gems in the west suburbs. The marsh is a beautiful place to enjoy walking or biking and is less than 5 minutes from downtown Wheaton. All seasons are extremely pretty and have refreshing scenery. Its an excellent place to relax.
This is a go to spot for an easy hike that offers a great deal of diversity.
Love this place, very peaceful and clean. I come here often to be out in nature.
We went to the nature play area. It was great! Kids stayed busy for an hour and a half straight and we could have stayed longer. Highly recommend.
A wonderful hidden gem! Great sights, sounds and well-kept trails... perfect for dog walks.
There is no charge to enter, but no real parking spaces or signage either. Just park nearby and try to find an entrance. Just an undeveloped area with a marsh for traveling birds. Does have some jogging, walking paths made of mostly wood chips, so not wheelchair friendly. Just a small natural area to walk and jog in basically, or watch migratory water birds at some times of the year. Not much in they way of amenities or benches. There is a small childrens playground nearby with benches.
Lots of oxygen. Require maintenance.
Great place to take a walk and enjoy nature at its best
Love being able to go walk in nature. . a gem for nature lovers.
Nice nature trails. Great place for a walk. Not very busy or loud. Infograph signs placed along paths for a quick read if interested.
Amazing place.
Nice paths through a local wetland. Very peaceful, well maintained.

Accessed from the Bicycle Prairie Path by Da Seg. ramps worked great. Return visit planned to see whole park!
Good place for a walk and have a piece of mind.
Great place to walk, ride a bike, take photos, or even just hangout
Nicely secluded
One of the best times I had in a while just being out in the open seeing nature so romantic
A gem in the backyard
Very enjoyable walk and beautiful seanery
I enjoy this wetlands park. The Rotary Club put up a covered picnic area. There is a ropes course Ive never been on. There is a set of paths that take you to the open water and along the side of the marsh. Theres a variety of ecosystems including mature stands of bur oak. Many wildflowers.
Beautiful place
Great place to take a walk, listen to the birds and feel some peace.
Nature at its most beautiful. A worthwhile escape from the orderly suburbs in all 4 seasons.
Beautiful area to walk and just take in nature.
Beautiful views of prairie/lake
Great little green oasis in the midst of suburbia. take your dag for a walk, see some wildlife, explore the marsh. It is a woodchip trail, with lots of plank walkways and bridges over the march, and some small hills. Might be a tough go if you have wheels. Has east and west entrances, and abuts the prairie path with some stairs.
No bugs, surprisingly, for being in middle of swamp.Path is lined with wood chips, very soft. But wheels smaller than a bicycle wont roll too well.Paths through swamp are literally plastic boards on piers, very sturdy. There is a bird observation deck in middle of area.
Big and majestic and all kinds of rope swings and more
Great place
Who knew that this was right outside the edge of Downtown Wheaton. I am new in the area and just happened to literally stumble upon it. Good thing I did cause it was one of the most peaceful times I have had in a long time. Was there around sunrise and all the wildlife was bustling around starting their day. Lots of very interesting wildlife and sounds abound. If you want to clear your mind and get into a meditative state of mindfulness this is the place to be. Especially around sunrise. Never imagined this kind of nature existed in boring old Illinois.
Very peaceful and a great place to enjoy nature
Nice little walking path. Wasnt crowded when I went. Almost all mulch, so if you dont like walking a lot on that, look the other way.
The best kept secret in Chicagos Western suburbs!! Bring bug spray and sunscreen. The kids will love it!
Bring your book to this wonderful retreat
Very peaceful and calm place
Its just beautiful..
Great place to go for a walk, or to see birds. Be sure to go when its cooler though as the mosquitoes, moisture and smell get strong when its hot
A marvelous location accessible by car and also by bike from the IL Prairie Path. Wonderful wood chip paths with a great loop trail through the marsh. Also has floating walkways to go out into the marsh lake.
Great place to walk year round. I especially love walking here at sunset when all the birds are singing. Sometimes I see other wildlife. But sometimes the bugs are too much on hot days.
Wonderful place to watch birds.
A lovely place to get lost and forget about the civilization around you for a while.
Its a Marsh!
Really quite ordinary although the path itself for the wonderful path to walk on
Its a great swamp, as swamps go. Lots of nature!
Beautiful place to walk and enjoy the ever changing nature.
Nice trails, beautiful wildflowers, and lots of wildlife.
Nice place to take a walk or bike ride
Slam dunk winner for taking the kids for outdoor fun and learning.
Not many people out here on a cold, windy, snowy day, but it really is beautiful.
Awesome natural resources
Place to unwind & release tension...
It was nice until I fell in off the side of a dock they have with benches
Brought people together and the instructor was very enthusiastic
Beautiful area to have a nice walk! Comforting!!
Love the nature.
Very quiet place to hike. Can walk out into the marsh area on floating docks. There is even a public firepit.
Beautiful Natural areas and great programs run by Wheaton Parks, too.
Tadpoles, snakes and redwing blackbirds
Needs some rain for the plants
Great outdoor experience. Lots of wildflowers and walkpaths.
What a jewel in Wheatons crown, plus it helps prevent flooding, cleans our water and provides so many habitats!
Nice place to run.
