Things were going great during the two man senior scramble until we came to hole #1. We had four holes to complete the scramble. When all of a sudden open play groups started showing up at the first tee. One of our players ran them off as to not have them in the middle of our groups slowing down play.Management probably needs to make an adjustment on the days they have scrambles as to not interfere with play and, or, cause person to person altercations.
Friendly staff and a fun, challenging public course. Dont expect Pebble Beach, but its not a goat track like youll find at most public courses.Greens are typically in good shape. There are also a lot of elevated tee boxes, which makes for a fun course to hit the driver.
For some reason Id avoided playing this course over the years. Im not sure quite why, really, though I dont typically go for courses in housing developments. But the usual courses have been feeling stale lately, so I figured Id finally give Bear Creek a try today for the first time. What I discovered was one of the most diverse and playable public courses in the St. Louis area. Gary Kerns designs are always fun, yes, but the routing here is one of his best. There are some great risk/reward holes, a variety of terrain, and not a single weak hole on the golf course. Despite my fears, the houses werent at all obtrusive to the hole corridors. I was shocked and felt a little bit guilty that Id had such an unwarranted negative impression of this layout. Its simply fantastic from start to finish.Conditions were adequate but not great from tee to green, although they get the benefit of the doubt after this wet spring. The greens rolled well at slightly above average speed.Ill definitely be back to play here again.
The course was in ok shape. But the fact that it took 3 hours and 15 min to play 9 without the Marshall or any staff actually intervening (and that’s with several groups calling it quits) is nuts. The chaos and high alcohol prices were enough to turn us away and never come back.
In very good shape, greens were the best Ive seen them in a while!
I do not recommend playing here. I play a lot of golf and have given bear creek a lot of business over the past few years. I have never experienced a course with such a slow pace of play. Prepare for a 5 hour round of golf regardless of the amount of players in your group. They allow far too many tee times to be booked very close together. You can guarantee to wait 5-10 minutes before each shot, and the only chance that play opens up is if enough people get discouraged and quit after 9 holes (I’ve done this multiple times here). It once took me and a friend an hour and 30 minutes to play the first 4 holes. I have experienced extremely slow play probably the last 10 times I’ve played here. I don’t know why I keep making the mistake of hoping it will be better the next time. It never is. I do not plan on playing here again and it upsets me because I do actually like the course. It is just poorly managed to say the least.
The last three times I’ve been out there it has taking me over three hours to play nine holes because they are so backed up. They book their tee times way too close together and don’t do a good job of managing pace of play. There is a lot of disorganization. And the guy that was the starter was very rude.
Very nice coarse other than the golfers not taking care of the greens
Well maintained. Nice course and decent value.
Great course...well maintained, clean and covid safe...
Wonderful courseEnjoy having it in Wentzville
LOVE THE DESIGN BUT 5 HOURS TO PLAY? NO THANKS MANAGEMENT - CHANGE TEE TIMES TO 9 MINUTES MAYBE THAT AND A STARTER WILL HELP
Everyone was so friendly and great to work with. They made sure every everything was perfect. I cant say enough great things. I will definitely recommend them to everyone. Chef Ben was so nice and the food was amazing. Leslie did a great job setting up the decorations and coordinating the night.
I golfed here with my father and grandfather and had a wonderful time. I walked into the clubhouse and I was immediately greeted by a super friendly staff who helped me find the merchandise that I needed. The course was in incredible condition, and the pace of play was great. We stayed after to have a bite to eat and, the food was amazing.
I just finished a round here at beak creek. Course is in excellent condition, greens were is amazing shape and fairways were in prestige condition. Best course I played this year and I play a lot of golf.
Play Bear Creek every week and the course is in great shape. Gnats are gone but the well supplied Pro Shophas spray if needed. Pro Shop Staff (Bob)is excellent and provides a great service in running our Senior and Couples Leagues. Dining Room and Kitchen provides a great selection at reasonable prices and they’re always friendly. I enjoy the weekly News Letter and the Website. General Manager is easily accessible and responsive to any issues I’ve had.I’ll continue to be a Grizzly supporter..Pete
Played there twice...Both times :Slow play starts on hole 2, waited about 10 minutes to tee off each hole. Got better around hole 13. Told Marshall patrolling course, both times he seemed frustrated.Course overall is in great shapeStaff is friendlyA couple of the greens were aerated and loaded with sand, ball needed off road tires. Will I play again, only really early
Everyone is very friendly and the food was excellent! Their Chef makes the best soup I’ve ever had!
Course was in excellent condition, but they should have a cart girl coming around with water and Gatorade. It was very hot and it would be very easy to get heat exhaustion
Do not golf here on the weekend. 5+ hours for a round and we had a tee time of 7:12. They stuff as many people as they can even if it means a bad experience. I mentioned how slow it was and a worker said “that’s bear creek on a weekend”.
The staff here was very hateful and very mean. Especially the female that was out running with the golf course. Very very unprofessional. Im a 60 some-odd year old man with cancer I paid $44 to play 18 holes of golf and was harassed and aggravated from the whole 12 to hold 13 by your staff. I was told that they needed my cart because they have a tournament. They overbooked RT times. Not my problem. I paid good money to play at a good golf course. Did not get to finish the game or did not get to enjoy the game because of the staff. I dont play as fast as I used to but we was only in the game 2 hours and on hole 12. I dont think we were doing too bad. Im sorry if I wasnt fast enough but I do have cancer and my days not always the greatest. Before once I had a halfway decent day thought I could play golf. Not true the staff here is very hateful and very mean. I think and feel that I was taken advantage of with the $44 fees and was not allowed to finish the game. Very poorly managed
Nice clubhouse and catering menu
We played there this past weekend and the course condition for what you pay to play there was very poor. I would expect it from lesser courses but not Bear Creek. Sand traps that had little sand in them, basically hitting off dirt in the ones i landed in. There were quite a few of the greens that had lots of sand on them. So much sand that when the ball hit the green from a chip shot sand plashed up on every bounce. Those greens played twice as slow as the other greens. Lots of weeds around many of the greens and tee boxes that were not well kept. I sent a message to Bear Creek themselves to inform them of how disappointed that not only we were but the twosome we were paired with were as well. I got a response that while courteous told me in so many words how wrong I was and to give them another chance. Basically, come out and spend your money here again with no guarantee the issues we had with the conditions of the course will be fixed. I have played heavier used public courses this year like St. Peters that are in much better shape than Bear Creek that cost less to play at. I have played Bear Creek in the past and it was always in great shape so I was highly disappointed in how poor of shape the course is currently in. The staff themselves are very friendly and I have zero complaints about any of them. I hate writing poor reviews but I would spend your money elsewhere.
Not a friendly course for juniors. Many courses around the area welcome juniors to their course and are excited to see them play. Bear Creek does not, and almost seems like they discourage them to be around. My 14 year old son was told he could not put on the practice green without a paid receipt, this among other similar issues. He used to always go to the driving range and the practice green but does not want to now. It was convenient since we live in the subdivision, but it’s worth it to drive to the other golf course in Wentzville so he keeps playing.
Great Facility - Great Food - Great Views and Excellent employees. Highly suggest you check it our for your next event.
Many of the greens were like putting on the fringe, bunkers in terrible shape and several of the tee boxes are in really bad shape. The worst course Ive played in several years.
Clubhouse staff were friendly and efficient.Grounds keepers were oblivious. They never stopped working, even when taking a shot withing 10 feet of their mowing and bunker work. For early season, the course was in decent shape. Fairways have come in nicely. Greens were smooth but slow for how tightly they were mowed. Silver tee boxes still need some time to come in, most were on the bare side or heavily spotted, gold tees were in beautiful shape. Every bunker our group was in was unplayable, either hard packed or a dusting of sand on top.For a weekday tee time before 10am, the pace of play on the front 9 was ridiculous, 3.25+ hours. Three groups in front of us gave up at the turn and we never caught another group on the back 9.Ill give Bear Creek a try later in the season, but as the rates go up, the value of the round will need to be a lot higher.
Great discounted rates if you like to play in the afternoon. I have played at Bear Creek a few times now and the staff is very helpful and friendly. I think the course is fair for any golfer. I think the greens, fairways and tee boxes are in good shape. The most challenging part of this course is the greens, because the course is pretty open. I believe you will have a good time at Bear Creek!Ken
Didnt have the opportunity to play Bear Creek last year, but did have the opportunity recently. Found the course to be in really good condition for this time of year. The biggest upgrade since last time I was there was the care of the sand traps - which were in very good condition. The greens are in great condition but running a little slow because of the amount of rain we have had which isnt unexpected. Fairways have greened up nicely and are well manicured. My overall impression - I liked the course a couple years ago when I played it several times, and found it to be improved since when I last visited. Bear Creek is a good value, nice course and amenities and a friendly, knowledgeable and professional staff. I will be back as soon as I have the time to do so.
Played today. Very crowded, slow at first, then marshal came and the pace picked up. We played in about 4 hours with cart path only. Course is challenging, but greens and fairways were in good condition.
Bear Creek is one of the better golf course in St Charles County area. It is well kept and the staff is very courteous and helpful. Play there every Monday and have always thoroughly enjoyed it. Would highly recommend it.
The golf course itself is very nice. The pace of play and employee lack of competence is painful. Consistently allow groups of 5 and 6 and then put twosomes behind them. Rounds with two people can easily take more than 5 hours. Employees and usually rather rude to me as well for being a repeat paying customer since its close to me.
Pretty tough course, at least for me. Narrow off the tee box and more water than I care to see but what lowers the rating is the sand traps. Nearly all of them were either muddy or had 3” of water in them. Never seen sand traps that bad, and I’ve played a few bad courses.
On Friday 7/11/2014, I paid for 18 holes at Bear Creek and played by myself. it took me three hours to play 9 holes.I stopped after the 9 and I asked in pro shop for a rain check to come some other day, since it was sooo slow playing and he said sure. I went back last Friday, 7/18/2014, and wanted to play the other 9 holes I paid for. The man in pro shop said I would have to pay an additional $8.58. I inquired as to why and he said that I had a credit even though the receipt I had showed RAIN CHECK. I all of my years of playing golf, I have never had a rain check that was a credit. And that I would have to pay the difference in 9 hole rate. I was flabbergasted. Since I had driven 35 minutes to get there, I paid the $8.58 and played the 9 holes. I sent a letter to the General Manager, KIRK PORTER and even left him a voice mail. As of today, one week later he has not responded. I would not recommend this course for the people in the pro shop were not very friendly and they will rip you off if you get a rain check. Most importantly, the General Manager, KIRK PORTER, did not return my phone call nor respond to my letter. I would recommend that if you pay for 18, play all 18 and dont ask for a rain check for you will only get a credit towards your next round.
Another fun day at Bear Creek. Course is coming back due to the tireless efforts of Kirk and staff. Enjoyed the experience very much!
Literally the worst course ever... I am on the Warrenton Golf Team and when I played there I was traumatized by the horrific fairways and greens. Fatty RIP gentlemen. Get it together...
Had two tournaments going at the same time no water in the ball washers a beautiful day to play had a great time
Greens and tees in good shape. Faiway edges dry fue to drought. Doing nice job with course in difficult drought.
Delicious Food! GR8 Atmosphere! Beautiful View! Gracious Staff!
Went to bear Creek a couple of weeks ago. A buddy and me had a tee time. When we paid at the pro shop nothing was mentioned that we were going to be put with three other guys for a 5 some. Took 5 hours and 45 minutes. Paid over 40 dollars, there were no yardage marker out was not a good experience. Was the first and last time I will go there. WIll encourage all my friends not to go there. Your course keeps sending me emails . Like I have stated previously I will not go back to your course . I hade very poor experience and you wouldnt even respond to my last post. I will continue to tell my friends to avoid your course.
Tee off was backed up 20 minutes. Was told that there was a five some in front of us but they are playing a scramble so just call the club house if they slow us down. Teed off a 8;04, didnt tee off on the second hole until 8;35 waiting for the five some. Called the club house to let them know that not only were they slow but none of them could hit the fairway. Long story short had to call again because they were slowing game play down. Finally passed the five some at 10 since they stopped in the clubhouse only to run into ANOTHER five some. A total of 6 hours for us, a threesome, to play 18 holes. Turned in the cart and informed them how horrible game play was. Kirk pulled me to the side and decided to get snide with me. I informed him that we were instructed to call the clubhouse if the five some became an issue and we did and nothing was done about it. Weve played this course a minimum 18 times the past year and a half but if Kirk is the way Bear Creak treats its customer, we will not be back. Im HIGHLY disappointed based on past play at this course. Even the employees were urging us to complain at the clubhouse after we turned our carts in. Kirk was VERY unprofessional and even had to comment your got your 18 in didnt you? as we were walking out of the clubhouse, STAY AWAY. Other plans were canceled with my family since game play took so long.
Great course, good looking staff. Kept me hydrated. Course is short but challenges you. I will be back.
Im here because my cousin Joseph whitener got married at today. Congrats luv birds.....GAME OVER!!!
Beautiful .. long .. hilly course
Customer service in the clubhouse needs improvement.
Great place to play golf
Pace of play is ridiculously slow, took almost 6 hours to finish a round
