Today was the second time I have visited the museum—first a month ago from the outside and today from the inside. It is a gem in the region and had a surprisingly great collection! I was even able to meet one of the artists whose private collection is on display.

Its nice to know about this place. Good place to learn about the area history. Need time to learn everything. I would prefer to visit the place thought several visits if you are interested in history. The first floor by the reception has special exhibitions from time to time. I like the idea. One section would be dedicated for an artist from a past era while the other for contemporary artist. Also, the second and third floor has special exhibitions. In the day of opening a new exhibitions and there is a reception the museum is open for public for free. There is enough parking.

The worst staff ever!!! Laughing at a child that has autism is the lowest of the low. They have trashy people running this place and they are insensitive to kids with disabilities. I don’t recommend, go elsewhere to find activities for your kids.

Connecticut is fortunate to have many quality museums and the Mattatuck is right there with them. Its a bit smaller than the New Britain Museum of American Art and has a similar collection of 19th and 20th century standouts like Frederic Edwin Church and Alexander Calder. There are rooms dedicated to changing exhibits and resident artists. One room had an exhibit of Mattatuck Museum members whose work was curated by a juror. The selection featured a range of local artist from paintings to collage, photography and sculpture. Its also a great place to learn about Waterbury history and why they call it the Brass City. This multimedia exhibit has a lot of hands-on activities for the kids to stay entertained. There are several levels of admission, including a discount for AARP members. Parking on the street uses a kiosk Monday through Saturday so best to use the free parking in the back. It’s easy to get to, especially if you use GPS. Our WAZE directions were accurate. Be aware that the museum is on the Waterbury green so there are two West Main streets. This is a wonderful museum with a community-centered approach to engaging viewers in discovering, learning and enjoying art. Take it slow and save some for another visit.

The old mesuem showed a lot more details as far as history goes. This new mesuem cant hold a candle to the old one. Basically it should be redone to show real history. After all isnt that the whole idea! !!!

Very small. Does not have automated audio guides for tourists. Pazel pieces were missing. All the audio exhibits do not work. Most of the buttons are in large cabinets with a LOT!! Of wide drawers, that you have to band to open them. Why not put them on display in a spinning transparent stands!?!?! Most of the buttons are without any information at all. You do not know the date or where were they used or manufactured. Disappointing! Does not say if the presidential letters are authentic or copys. The place is clean but not recommend at all to visit. No gift shop. The cafeteria was closed. Total rip-off!!
