This place is a gem on U Street. Everything on the menu looks good. Everything IS good. The ambiance is cozy, dim lit, and perfect. No live music the Saturday night that we went. Didnt need a reservation either. Our server was great, and had great recommendations. Had the bruschetta which was good, then the NZ Lamb Chops & the Crab Stuffed Salmon. My wife loved the chops, and idk if Ive had salmon this good anywhere else. And I LOVE salmon. Sides were also cooked to perfection. Drinks made great, and not too strong. And man, as far as the desserts, we had the bread pudding, and Id put it up against any dessert from any restaurant. Id Uber Eats just to have that delivered to wherever I am. A great, cozy, Black-owned business with tremendous food. Prices are a little on the high side, but its very much in line for D.C.
Fantastic restaurant that takes you back in time by delivering an experience with a jazz ensemble in the small cozy dining room. Delicious all American fare with absolutely delicious steaks. Creamy buttery and delicious with the perfect sides. Pricing is reasonable and service is quick and friendly. We were however hounded when we made a reservation but waiting for the other half of our party to show up.
I Visited This Place For The 1st Time Along With 3 Of My Children We Had a Gr8 Time Although There Was No Entertainment That Particular Night. The Food Was Good a Bit Pricey For The Quantity But Still Good Our Waitress Was Fast & Friendly. I Will Definitely Visit Again.
Went with friends to hear jazz. We ended up inside but it worked out great. We could hear the music and were warm too.
Nice site for quality american food. Staff is always nice even when they have a full house. Similar to a place in Denver I liked.
Man, stopped in last night with some friends. Was able to get a great seat. From a friendly staff, everyone was masked up, with multiple hand sanitizer stations. Got drinks, and great food. Whatever the special is, GET THAT. Last night was braised short ribs. A1 A1 A1... Bartenders and servers are always on point and provide a friendly & fun experience. I can’t wait to go back.
The atmospera is pleasant, and good food.I will come back!
Jojo is always a favorite of mine. If you want to enjoy the music, sit downstairs. There is an additional $10 cover charge for that area. Also it is extremely loud so if you want to converse it will be difficult to do so. We sat upstairs. The ambience was very nice and cozy seating. The food and drinks were amazing as well.
GREAT RESTAURANT!! The atmosphere is PHENOMENAL!! Please be sure to check out their Cajun Chicken sandwich!! It is to DIE FOR!! Happy hour starts at 5pm!! GET THERE ON TIME AS THEIR SEATS FILL UP VERY FAST!! Next I wish to try their shrimp pasta!! I enjoyed the restaurant and the wonderful experience I had!!!!!
Excellent jazz ensemble. Food average and affordable. Drinks are good. Wait staff not very friendly - but I tipped them anyway. Area is small an intimate. Best to make reservations due to accommodations being limited.
My FAVORITE Jazz lounge with EXCELLENT FOOD, DESERTS, DRINKS, STAFF, BARTENDERS & MUSIC. The Owner is like Family. The mood id like entertaining in your home. Comfortable setting and FUN! The bands are some of the Best! Great SUNday Brunch.
The atmosphere and the music are great. My boyfriend and I are regulars there. Would have given them 5 starts if not for:- Last time I was there the new bartender (bar back?) DJ SPILLED a beer all over me did not apologize and I had the clean the mess myself. The owner was standing not that far away and did not knowledge the situation. The only reason I did not make a scene is because my boyfriend wanted to return to this place.- My favorite bartender left because he was not getting the tips from all of the drinks he was making for the people who are dining (even though that took a lot of his time that he could have been spending on his tip paying customers)- The dining service is beyond incompetent - they are very slow and barely paid any attention to us. It look us over 30 minutes to get our check and a mandatory 20% tip was included in the dining area. The service was definitely not worth that tip.The only reason we keep coming back is for the good music.
Over priced, crowded, rude waitress. After waiting half an hour by the door for a table, my friend ordered a $30 entree and I had a beer because I had eaten earlier. I was told I would have to drink it at the bar or be charged a $10 cover. When his food came they just set it down on top of his menu no questions about if we needed anything, no checking if he needed silverware. When I complained about the cover charge ( I spent the entire first set of the band standing either behind a plate glass divider or outside in the cold to avoid the constant need to move to let people in and out) I was told there was nothing they could do. When I mentioned there was no sign or anything on the menu about their policy I was rudely told it is on the website. After all this I simply left. Why would any restaurant treat their customers like second class citizens especially when they are paying high prices and trying to support local music? It leaves a bad taste. I doubt I will go back or recommend this place to anyone.
I truly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. My only complaint is when I made the reservation I was never told we had a 2hr limit to sit and eat. I felt rushed with my party of 5. There was a large party of about 14 which arrived the same time and was still seated when we left. It was my birthday and had planned to hangout a few hours longer. Management needs to be clear not rush folks out. Making exceptions should be doable.
Some of the best, if not the best jazz venue in town. Staff is great, friendly and helpful. Bartenders are excellent. Highly recommend
This is a friendly and great location for live music and excellent food. The customer service is very good and waitness was wonderful! The space is limited for dinning, not a problem when you are in good company. The only reason that I am not giving a 5 star is the way the hostess at the door brought to our attention about the $10 fee to seat in dinning area per person. It felt like she was being biases. We stayed a few hours, met some good people and spent over $300, not including the $100 tip. Another example of not judging a book by the cover..
Great live music and amazing food. OWNER IS A CROOK. Not honest with the advertising and pricing. Not organized with the reservations. Tried to force us to pay a 20% gratuityFirst Im going to start by saying I had an amazing evening (for the most part) with my wife for valentines day at this place with great live music and amazing food. Now, heres what I didnt like. I bought my tickets for the valentines day event like 3 weeks in advance, with the assumption that I had reservations for a certain time and all costs were fully paid for. I arrive on time and when i get to the door and tell them i had reservations, they told me i had to wait 20+ minutes for a table to open up. No biggie. So we finally get a table and the waiter takes our order for appetizers. We wait... and wait... and wait. The table next to us sat down after we dis but got their appetizers and entree before we did. Turns out our waiter left and nobody replaced our table. Whatever. So we finally get our food and enjoy our evening.Heres what really got me. We are getting ready to leave and the waitress brings us a bill. I inform her that I already paid in advance. She takes it back and brings back another bill saying that I owe a 20% gratuity plus 10% tax. First of all, sales tax in DC is only 6% and second, gratuity is an option and the amount is decided by the guest. So I talked to the manager and asked him why was I being charged a 20% gratuity and 10% tax if it wasnt mentioned in the ad when I made my advance purchase. He claimed it was mentioned. So we both looked at the ad and it only said gratuity and tax not included. It didnt specify a certain amount. But like I said, gratuity is OPTIONAL and the amount is decided by the guest. You cant force someone to make an exceptional tip for average service. And sales tax should have been included in the initial purchase anyways. So we keep going back and forth and he insists that I owe the money that he claims.I ended up leaving a tip (not the 20%) because our waitress did deserve one. But the manager/owner is a crook. Not sure if he handles business like that on a regular basis but well never return. Thanks for reading.
I had a great time here. Small place but the ribs were delicious and the atmosphere was great. Band was playing and kept the mood fun. Management was involved and consistently around. Deff appreciates him. Staff works well together. Plan to go back soon
A chill and relax atmosphere. It was small on the lower floor near the stage but it didnt matter because the entertainment was worth it. They performed jazz music but I did notice they were missing a saxophone player. I would have loved to hear the sax. They still did an amazing job. I felt like I was in a movie. The food was delicious! If you go, try the bourbon salmon.
Amazing live blues/jazz jam bar. Great music, atmosphere, food and drinks. I recommend going there on a Sunday evening
OMG! Why have I not found this in my many visits to DC before? I very intimate setting with great food, drinks and entertainment. I think I found my new home when visiting. The best part were the grits.
Most of the staff is friendly. The food and drinks are tasty. You cant beat ther live music.
Wings were great. Salmon, not so much. Spinach was over cooked. Drinks were good. Live music offered. I would go back for drinks only and the music/atmosphere. I would skip the dinner.
Great jazz place to bring out-of-town guests. Bartenders, menu and entertainment are excellent; however, table service waitstaff could be a lot better. Not friendly, not amenable.
Nice place for music and hanging with friends or on a date. The place is tiny though, get there early to choose your prime spot to enjoy live jazz band and singers. The drinks were hit and miss but the smoked salmon was great!
Always a go to birthday spot. Love the menu selection and ambiance is easy and comfortable. We usually sit upstairs where we can chat, but the live bands that play downstairs are fantastic
Great live music, ambiance & wine list. Definitely meets the expectation generated by its positive reviews.Hope to try their food at the next opportunity.
A few weeks ago I made a reservation for my birthday, because I wanted to hear the live jazz band that played that night. I ordered a medium well steak and the one I received was well done. We notified the situation to the runner (she was next to us at the moment) and she apologized and picked up the plate. After several minutes the server arrived to ask me what happened and I explained. To my surprise, she dared to tell me that she was going to bring back the plate so that I could see that the steak in fact was medium well and not well done. I found this very rude: first, you are implying that Im lying, and second you are implying that I do not know how a medium well steak looks or tastes like. She proceeded to bring the plate, and indeed that steak was medium well, but that was NOT my steak, because I cut it to double check the meat and my other four friends saw that it was well done. Why this server create such a scene? How did she have the nerve to bring it back from the kitchen? I do not know from whom that steak was but it was definitely not mine! I was so disappointed for the situation. I’ll never go back to that restaurant, the owner needs to provide her a customer service/hospitality workshop or something. It’s so sad because the first time I went there the food was really good and the live jazz was phenomenal.
WThe atmosphere is great, music is great, but for the seafood, its alright. I had the crab cakes and stuffed salmon. Both were okay, I wouldnt rave about them. Id have to eat something thats not seafood to get a total picture of their menu, but so far the food was not impressive.
Great food & atmosphere. They should tell you they charge $10 on your bill for the music per person. Along with gratuity of a table of four.
1.When reserving the tables online it never mentioned the cover charge. We were told this as soon as we walked in. The money was not the issue, I just wish it was made clear from the beginning.2. I didnt agree with the 2 hour limit when reserving a table especially when we were will to order drinks and food while there. We couldnt really relax, eat and enjoy the music knowing we had to leave. We just ordered appetizers and when our time was up we went somewhere else to eat.3. The music was excellent while we were there.4. The bar really should be separated from the performers somehow. It was loud and really unfair to them and those trying to enjoy their music.
Cozy, friendly and great entertainment! The food smelled scrumptious however, I didnt eat... Just enjoyed a glass of wine. Good customer service! Im looking forward to going back.
Good food. A little pricey. Small jazz club feel that was cozy to a little cramped. Over all a nice place.
I went last night for my birthday. JoJo is a jewel on U Street. The staff was friendly and professional and the food was delicious and was presented beautifully. Loved the two jazz bands. The second act, Aaron Myers had me in stitches.
Great spot to catch live Jazz. Reservations suggested on Friday and Saturday evenings. Good food as well.
Amazing atmosphere !! I found this place completely by chance as I was walking on U street. Since then, I come back very frequently. I highly recommend Wednesday’s nights. Jazz show starts at 8, so be sure to be there at 7:30, order their ribs and drink on of their cocktails .
If you want to listen to great, live jazz, this is the place to be. I had dinner salad here as well and found it to be OK. Reservations are highly recommended to get a good table to watch the artists.
Good beer with excellent dessert. I came for the jazz and left with more.
Went last night and had the best food and drink. Thank you for your great hospitality and accommodations. Music was soothing and not too loud so we could hear each other talk. We will be back soon!
At JO JOs restaurant here in Washington DC the jazz music is awesome you have to come out with family and enjoy the music and food ... OUTSTANDING !!!!!! John Steel band wow great music !!!!!
Nice restaurant and jazz joint. It is small but intimate. Really good service. My wife and I went for our 20th Wedding Anniversary. Music was good. We went on a Wednesday night. We got in there around 6 pm. The jazz band didnt start until 8 pm. But you need to get in there by 7 pm. All the seats/tables filled in by 7 pm.
Perfect service, perfect food, perfect wine, perfect live performance, perfect staff, perfect crowd. Loved it! Eat BBQ BBRibs!
Loved the atmosphere! Cozy and intimate. Food is good with a nice variety of options. Prices are good. We ate upstairs and could hear the jazz band downstairs, which is fine so we could visit. The band was excellent. I believe there is a 10.00 per person for down stairs with live viewing of the band. Reservations are a must.
One of my favorite restaurants in DC. Food and live music is always A+. Keep it up!!!!
Nice vibe, great food, great service, and good music.
My dear Doppio, is this a JoJos reference?
The freshness of the food is always something I love about eating out. The drinks are always consistently delicious and never watered down. The service always up to par and the live music is the cream of the pie. We never had a bad night here.
Great jazz, good food, decent wine list, and full bar make this cozy jazz club a required stop for the serious jazz affecionado. Close to the U Street stop on the Yellow or Green lines.
Food was Great Service was Great. BUT the $10.00 MUSIC FEE SUCKS if you seat DOWNSTAIRS you get charged MUSIC FEE. But you set upstairs and watched the LIVE BAND on TV YOU DONT GET CHARGED. We set downstairs because of handicap and the Manager Still CHARGED MUSIC FEE .
Food was good. Wasnt ready to be charged $10 for the music and have the gratuity included in the bill. Tight space and hard to talk if youre on the 1st floor near the band.
Atmosphere, food, and music excellent. Really enjoyed myself.
Great food, ambiance, & jazz music. The folks who work there are also friendly.
Great cocktails, staff and music
We stayed upstairs and it was amazing. Food and music were wonderful. I had the Red and Blue and my wife had the chicken and shrimp. Everything was amazing.
Go if you want exceptional live music, a fun atmosphere as well as fantastic service (even when uberbusy) & great food. Reasonably priced given what you get is live music, good food/service & atmosphere!
Best jazz restaurant in DC! Loved the food, drinks, and the band playing on Fridays... Its AMAZING!!!
Thia home for me, I have been coming this place for the last 7 years with my husband and the food and service is great
Excellent service, seating was comfortable, excellent food, great prices. Best experience ever. Parking was easy.
This place is a nice little hole in the wall. They definitely could benefit from more space. I really enjoyed my experience and the food was great.
Mushroom pasta with blackened shrimp
Food was great! Staff very accommodating went to celebrate a friends birthday.
Visiting Jojo Restaurant & Bar for my first time after many recommendations from family and friends. Needed to ask a question so I called ahead to speak to someone there. Several attempts were made to make contact, however; unsuccessful. Someone would answer but we were disconnected. I thought it was a mistake. So I made several more calls and I realized it was deliberate.Every patron and every phone call is important for business, and should be handle as such. I hope Management will enforce this great customer service courtesy with his staff!!!
Small, intimate, great atmosphere, great music by the trio. The food is Good, but could stand to be slightly larger portions. Their menu cocktails are ok. Overall loved the place. Good for date. Best seating is downstairs with the band.
Atmosphere excellentGreatly enjoyed the bandWonderful serviceNeeds a little more lighting in order to clearly see the menu
Friendly, great music, no cover charge. We walked in and sat at the bar. The place is small but cozy, not pretentious, packed with nice people out for a good time.
Nice, modern place with good food and music. The burger I had was amazing. The only thing that I could complain about is the taste of water they serve and use for ice, they could use some better filtering g system.
Nice atmosphere good music, and most of all great food!
The restaurant had a wonderful and delicious cuisine. Each part of the meal was appropriately served in a timely fashion. I could not have been more pleased with the Live entertainment and atmosphere. I will be back there again.
They cover 10 dollars per person if you want to eat downstairs near the music. Its a steal. You can get quality cocktails for 12 to 14 dollars and theres an extremely accessible burger menu as well as the more pricey lamb, crab cakes, and steak menu. The music is high quality jazz and the servers are very friendly and make you feel more at home than service. I strolled in at 6:30 pm on a Saturday with reservations made online.
The jazz music was awesome. Went on a Sunday for the jazz brunch. The atmosphere was great, pretty good talent as well. Really enjoyed that portion. The food was a different story my friend found a foreign object in her coffee. Pretty gross. Then she asked for a take home container and they brought her a dirty one! I am scared to see what the kitchen looks like there.
Best kept secret on U Street Corridor. Live jazz 7 nights a week last I checked although I’ve only been on weekends. No cover charge. Great food to include full entrées like lamb chops as well as bar food like wings and fries. It is rather small so frequently crowded because it is a favorite amongst those who know of its existence. There are two floors, the second floor also has a bar and tables for dinner, but you have to view the band on a monitor from that level. Great spot for a date or two and hang out with a group of friends, can dress up or down.
Nice, clean and well organized restaurant. With awesome music!
Awesome love the music an atmosphere and the Aviance
SERVICE: Ok. I wouldnt bother making a reservation on their busy night. Doesnt seem to matter. Still a long wait.FOOD: Very good! Surpassed my expectations. Had the blacked shrimp alfredo.OVERALL: Would definitely go back. A little on the pricey side. Probably will visit during the week when its more low-key. The venue is tiny! A speakeasy feel.
Wow! Great evening out on the town in DC! JoJo’s Restaurant didn’t disappoint. Delicious food, great spirits and live jazz! Doesn’t get any better!
Great food, great music and great atmosphere.
Cool jazz music and even better food...we had a pahty of 6 and they hooked us up...please do yourself a favor...yup Jojo
I cant say enough great things about this place. Wife and I have been many times...love the vibe.
Reservations mean nothing. We arrived on time and were told it would be another hour. No apologies offered.
Great food great music
This place is the best. Great jazz, great food, great people. Always a good option in a city with so much to choose from.
The food is really good here!! I love the Cajun-style cuisine that they offer. My wings and burger were very tasty. I also enjoyed the live music. Honestly, everything was fine except the space of the restaurant. Its very small, so Id recommend to book a reservation online because if you call ahead, they may be too busy to answer the phone.
I enjoyed the music, food, and feel of the place upstairs.... the service was stellar
Amazing food a good prices, come early for a good search in front of the jazz band
I love JoJos the jazz band put an extra kick to the menu you should try it on a Friday or Saturday night
Jojos is cozy and enjoyable. It reminds me of jazz spaces in St. Louis and Memphis. Great vibe in this space. You can sit upstairs and enjoy the music or you can sit downstairs close to the band. If you want to sit downstairs reservations are definitely recommended. Keep in mind that you are given 2 hours to enjoy the food and music. There is a constant flow of people. Downstairs is definitely lively and dont plan on having a quiet intimate conversation. The music is awesome. The food is also good. I did not order the fettuccini alfredo, but someone in my party did. It was some of the best alfredo that they had to share. I ordered the lamb chops which were cooked well aling with spinach. I did not eat the potatoes but had they paired it with the fettuccini I would have eaten that as a side dish. Overall we enjoed the evening at Jojos. It is worth a visit if you like jazz and good food. Did not try any drinks.
Excellent food, friendly staff, and fine jazzy atmosphere with a great instrumentalists! No cover charge but call ahead to reserve a table if you dont want to sit at the bar (which is a bit small). Your only other recourse would be to sit upstairs then but youd miss the live band.
A little bit too small but great atmosphere and mojitos
Very rude waitress. When she wasnt be rude she was ignoring our table. Very demeaning and this is the reciept she left us
